Is there a way to turn off your phone if the touch screen is not responding?

My screen won't respond to any touch commands and they say to power off the phone, but it will not allow me to swipe it to shut it down...

Check this out.  It is exactly what you need.

If a reset doesnt fix it (which it wont - that is likely a hardware issue), then get warranty service.

  • I dropped my phone and the very bottom of the touch screen does not respond. would i need to get the screen replaced or is there another way?

I've dropped my phone quite often, and the back of the phone is cracked, but I haven't bothered to fix it. I dropped my phone again today, and a tiny bit chipped off near the top edge of my phone. Later when i got home, I couldn't unlock my phone except when I slid my finger across the very top of the arrow and it JUST opened. but I can't use the bottom now, so on the keyboard, I can't type with the space bar and anything else at the very bottom of the touch screen.

At Apple Store for $149 you can get a replacement iPhone 4 which will be just like New. Everything will work perfect and the there will be no chips or cracks. New battery and buttons too. Make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple.

  • Is there a way to play a video and disable the touch screen

I want to be able to play a video and disable the touch screen so that it will play uninterrupted (even if the screen is accidentally touched). Isn't there a "hold" button?

  • Is there any way to turn off airport without removing the electrical plug and should I unplug it when not using it??

I just got the 5G Airport Extreme base station. Set-up was a snap! Maybe 10-15 minutes compared to a friend who got another name brand for his pc and took a couple hours, even having to call customer support! Been working great so far, but am concerned about never turning it off, not only about the possibe harm that could be done to the unit, but also about having an active, open Internet connection 24/7. Before I got my Airport Extreme I was using Ethernet cable with a cable modem that could be placed on "standby" whenever I was not using my Mac for Internet, but since AE5G doesn't have a power switch on the unit, have left it turned on rather than unplugging it by the electrical cord. I did turn AirPort "off" in the menu bar when not using it wth my Mac, but AE is still apparently constantly active, showing a steady green light. Would there be any harm done by plugging it in only when I want to use Wi-Fi, then unplugging it?
    Thanks for the help!

That is a matter of debate, since there are two schools of thought regarding power status on a router.
One school maintains that you can turn the device on and off as needed. Makes sense for some folks. The advantage of this is that it might save a bit of electricity, although the Extreme draws very little power most of the time.
Another school believes that there is a reason why Apple did not even place an "Off" switch on the device. It's designed to run 24/7.
Leaving the Extreme on will place far less stress on the electrical components in the device since they stay in an "idle" state most of the time, drawing very little current. Powering any electrical device up sends a sudden rush of current through the device, which places far more stress on a device than if it is simply left on.
It depends on your priorities. If you want to save electricity, your decision is already made. If you intend to prolong the life of the router, then consider leaving it on, as Apple intended.
A compromise position might be to leave the Extreme on most of the time and power if off for long weekends or vacation periods when you will be away. Remember that the Extreme must establish all new network connections every time that it powers back up....perhaps another reason to simply leave it on.

  • CS6 Multicam Edit - Is there a way to turn off some camera angles when the system gets strained?

I'm doing a multicam edit in cs6 and the 5 camera angles I have are straining my system.  I have two main angles and three kind of back up go pro angles that I don't need most of the time.  But I don't want to get rid of them either.  Is there a way to turn off monitoring some of the angles at times so that video will playback smoother?  Then when I need the other angles, switch them back on when I want?  The video is so choppy with all 5 angles monitoring at once that multicam editing is basically impossible.  I'm editing on what's supposed to be a very fast system at work but it's not fast enough...Thanks!

I'm not aware of any way to do this. You might want to invest in a battery case if this is a problem for you; our users here all have them.
Please submit your feature request to Apple at this link: http://www.apple.com/feedback; I agree it's a good idea.

  • In iOS 7 is there a way to turn off that new camera burst mode?

I like the old camera ability to keep your finger on the shutter and release to take a photo. It helps avoid camera blur with certain close shots you are trying to frame, and was one of my favorite "hints on using your camera" for the iPhone.
But with iOS 7 this has turned into burst mode, which is driving me crazy.
Is there a way of turning off burst mode for the shutter button and having it work like it did before?
    Thanks,
    doug

Thanks, Doug.  I'm a little disappointed to discover so few of us who miss what I consider one of the iPhone camera's cleverest refinements.  Being able to hold one's finger on the shutter and release to take the photo is something I did by habit, and now sorely miss.
Most troubling to me is that the change represents a shift to favoring an entirely new way of taking photographs — a style I'd conservatively call, "by the seat of your pants".  That's never the way I've taken photographs.
Like Nadnerb19, I'm hoping Apple reconsiders its priorities, and gives us the option to make a choice between machine gun style photography and the steadier, more 'focused' approach afforded by previous versions of iOS.

  • I noticed that touch id can be bypassed by swiping and entering passcode.  Is there any way to turn off the passcode, so the phone can ONLY be unlocked using your fingerprint?

I noticed that touch id can be bypassed by swiping the screen and entering your passcode.  Is there any way to turn off the passcode, so the phone can ONLY be unlocked via fingerprint?  I liked the idea of having the extra security of a fingerprint sensor, but not if the phone can still be unlocked using only the passcode.  Then, what's the point of touch id?  Am I missing something here?

What happens if the touch ID sensor gets broken?  It is a backup method to get in to your device.
Consider editing your lock screen passcode, changing it from a simple 4 digit code, to a longer more complex password.

  • Is there any way to turn off the ical feature whereby someone emails you a meeting date/time and it automatically goes on your iCal?

Is there any way to turn off the iCal feature whereby when someone emails you a meeting date/time and it automatically appears on your calendar?  Once there they can't even be edited or deleted.

    Greetings,
What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
You should be able to delete events in iCal as long as they are not from a "Subscription" calendar.  Subscriptions show up on the left hand side of iCal under the "Subscription" category if you have any.
You can tell iCal to not check your mail program for invites by going and unchecking the box found in iCal > Preferences > Advanced > "Automatically retrieve..."
    Hope that helps!

  • Is there any way to turn off the "Determining Gapless Playback"

Every time I open Itunes the "Determining Gapless Playback routines starts. I always let this finish and after a while it appears to stop and I only have the Apple logo at the top of Itunes. However, if I close Itunes and restart it the "deteriminig Gapless Playback" routine starts all over again. Isn't there any way to turn off this annoying new feature....

You could try a reboot:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad should restart.  If that doesn't get rid of the volume control box on your screen, it's time to make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your Apple Store, and they can send your iPad off for service.

  • Is there a way to turn off the function in Lion that re-opens the last project you worked on in a given program?

Is there a way to turn off the function in Lion that re-opens the last project you worked on in a given program?

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.
