Is there a way to turn screen off manually?

Just wondering if there is a way or key to press to turn the display off. I have my imac screen set up to turn off after 10 minutes and would like to keep it that way but there are times when I would like to turn it off right away but keep the computer on of course. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Haunted,
Did you know you can use the Power Button to sleep your iMac. You need to activate this option in System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options > make sure to select 'Allow Power Button to Sleep Computer'... this is about as close as you can get to sleeping your machine on demand...
Depending on your Energy Settings, your display and computer will go into sleep mode but will remain 'on', and you can do the usual to wake your iMac...

Say I turn off my Computer or restart it & then I load up Firefox the pages I was previously at loads up. This is very very very annoying & I see no options in the settings to turn this off. Is there any way to turn this off ? Even if I just press the X button to close Firefox then later in the day I open Firefox the previous pages always open & it is annoying. I apologize for the language but that is just how ''irritated'' & annoyed I am about this

    Hello David.
Go into ''Tools > Options > General > Startup:When Firefox starts:'' and configure it as you want (probably to show your home page?). This is the very first option that appears in the options screen, but I understand that it may not be very easy to find. Firefox 4 will not include any redesign to the options screen (except possibly it appearing in a tab, rather than in a popup), but you may interested to know that there are plans to redesign the options screen for versions after Firefox 4, to make it easier to use. If you want to know more about the redesign, just ask.
Anyway, if that doesn't help (it probably does, but just in case), it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.

  • Undo/redo generate 'Save Changes to filename' pop up after 3 or 4 clicks.  Is there a way to turn this off?

Running into issue with undo/redo(ctrl-z,ctrl-y) generating 'Save Changes to filename' pop up after 3 or 4 clicks.  Is there a way to turn this off?

Sounds like some strange shortcut key conflict.
The first thing to try is Deleting Corrupted Cache in DW.  Be sure hidden files & folders are enabled in Windows Explorer.

  • Is there another way to turn phone off?

My mom has an iphone 4. The sleep/wake button is stuck so it will not let her turn the phone off. Is there another way to turn the phone off?
    Thanks!

As far as I know, the power button is the only way to turn your iPhone on and off. There's no other way, softward or hardware other wise. You might want to go to an Apple Store if it really bothers you, but turning your device on and off drains a lot of battery - it's better to just let it sleep automatically (as iDevices do after a certain amount of time).

  • IOS7 Animations - is there a way to turn them off?

I know that a lot of people like the screen animations when an app is started (tapping on the icon) and stopped (by using the button, for instance). I don't like them, and would like to turn them off. Yes, it's one of the first things I do when I set up a new Windows system also.
Is there any supported way to turn off the animations?
    Thanks

  • Pan/scrolling is slippery. Is there a way to turn it off?

I've been using Photoshop CS5 for a long time now. That last time I used it was maybe Monday at the most. Today, when I opened it up, I found that my "Open Recent" menu was grayed out, because it was empty. So I find the file I'm working on and open it, and it appears that my settings are competely different now. The tools were all set to unusual amounts(maybe default settings). I don't use plugins, but my brushes were all still there.
This is all fine, what's bothering me is that when I used the Hand tool and pan through the image, after I release, it keeps sliding for a bit. I can barely flick the image and it flies all the way off screen. I've tried searching the internet for a way to change this but for the life of me I have no idea what this feature would be called.
How do I turn this off? It's making it really difficult to get where I want to go.

    Glad it helped.
As for your other issue, set all your settings as you want, and once it is done, save your Preference file to another folder, outside of the Photoshop one, and you would be able to restore it, in case it disappears. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/828/cpsid_82893.html

  • HT5295 Why does the app stop updating if you have not played 5 episodes? Is there a way to turn this off?

Can I keep it from not updating after 5 unplayed episodes?

I would also like a way to turn off this "feature." Currently, if I miss 5 episodes of a podcast, the Podcasts app stops auto-downloading new episodes of that podcast. I, however, would prefer that my Podcasts app simply keep the most recent 3 episodes of the podcasts I subscribe to, whether I've listened to other recent episodes, or not. And "most recent 3" is just my preference. I'm sure there are people out there who want to keep every episode, listened or not, recent or not. There shouldn't be limitations on how we decide to use our memory or bandwidth.

  • Is there a way to turn backlight off, permanently,...

Which phone do you use. You can minimize the backlight by selecting brightness

  • Is there a way to turn AirDrop off

Is there a way to disable AirDrop and then turn it back on when I get home?

And keep in mind, nearby means a computer authorized on your home network. Airdrop only works between machines on the same network. And if you have multiple subnets, then on the same subnet.
Not that it matters, but I'm not sure about that because Airdrop creates its own ad hoc network; I'm quite sure that I read somewhere that your Macs do not have to be on the same network, you just need to have Wifi enabled/on.
This is from the Lion website:
Looking for a fast way to share files with people nearby? With AirDrop, you can send files to anyone around you wirelessly — no Wi-Fi network required. And no complicated setup or special settings. Just click the AirDrop icon in the Finder sidebar, and your Mac automatically discovers other AirDrop users within about 30 feet of you. To share a file, simply drag it to someone’s name. Once accepted, the fully encrypted file transfers directly to that person’s Downloads folder.

  • Why are my Tabs closing over night? Is there a way to turn this off?

Ever since I updated Mozilla, any of the webpages in various tabs I have open will close during the night. Mozilla resets it self around 3am. It even woke me up one night. How do I turn this off?? I am having to save tons of webpages every night before bed and have lost valuable information due to this problem. I have changed my update settings in Mozilla on my computer, but the tabs are still being reset/closed over night.

I am not sure what is happening. Firefox should stay open until you close it, and normally gives options to reopen with the previous tabs.
Have you got some sort of cleanup utility that runs automatically, or is it just Windows shutting down, or a laptop going into a power saving mode.

  • Is there a way to turn on/off 3G for iPhone 4S with a voice command and/or without Siri?

For example, I almost always have 3G turned off on my iPhone 4S so that I won't use any of my cellular data when not needed. However, when I'm driving, and I need to use Maps for directions, it would be nice to unlock the iPhone by voicing my PIN and using a voice command to turn on 3G and accessing Maps.
Is there already a way to do this? I know that accessing applications via Siri will be capable when iOS 6 is released.
Voice Control should also be set to the default voice-command option when Siri is either off or when the iPhone does not currently have access to the internet. Because Siri requires the internet, Voice Control could be used to unlock the iPhone and turn on 3G. Once 3G is turned on, Siri can take over (if Siri is turned on in Settings) to access an application, like Maps. When finished, there should be a voice command that will "turn off 3G."
So, here's how the whole process could work:
    1) hold Home button to access Voice Control and respond with PIN to unlock the iPhone - "one, two, three, four" or "twelve, thirty-four" for PIN 1234 (I'm not sure if people would want to say, "one thousand, two-hundred, thirty-four")
    2) once unlocked, it should intuitively stay on Voice Control so the user can say "turn on 3G"
    3) if Siri is enabled, it will take over Voice Control; if Siri is disabled, Voice Control will remain active, bu you should also have the voice-command option to "turn on Siri" (now that 3G is on)
    4) a voice command to "launch Maps" - I know that this will capable with iOS 6
    5) when done, hold Home button and voice a command to "turn off 3G" via Siri
Could this feature please be integrated into iOS 6?
In terms of driving and accessing Maps, this would be a lot safer and a lot easier.
    Thanks!

Is there any way to turn this off? Very annoying feature

You could try a reboot:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad should restart.  If that doesn't get rid of the volume control box on your screen, it's time to make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your Apple Store, and they can send your iPad off for service.
