Is there a way to turn sync on and off? For security reasons...

My car was broken into over the weekend and I was so happy my laptop wasn't in the trunk (as it usually is), but it made me start to wonder since I have sync setup on all 3 of my computers (2 towers 1 laptop), that if it had been taken they would have access to all my bookmarks and sign ins, even though I have a windows password on the acct I also know how easy it is to get past that with a few google searches.
I know I can change the sync password so tomorrow or the next day the updates won't continue to sync to that machine, but is there a way to sign in or sign out of firefox or my sync, so that maybe they couldn't just open firefox and access my email facebook yahoo youtube amazon and many other sites that the sign in info and whatnot is all linked.
I did try by changing my password on the main tower pc to see what it would do to the laptop essentially I can still access everything but it just doesn't update.
I am thinking of trying something like keepass would that work well with firefox and sync?

You can change your Sync Key / Recovery Key which clears all your Sync data from the Sync Server and prevents a lost device from accessing your Sync account in the future. It does nothing about clearing your data on the lost device, though. You should change your Sync password, too.
Your password data is very important, bookmarks relatively unimportant other than a thief knowing your interests from those bookmarks. Keepass is one option, but have you looked into Persona from Mozilla?

Is there a way to turn the wireless capabilities off on an AirPort Express?  I have an AirPort Extreme as my main router and use the express to just extend it. I only really want to you use the express for hard ethernet connections. For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb. These terrible download speed really only affects the iPhones as my MacBook Pro usually gets the good speed no matter where it is. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my phone because if I am in the part of the house that uses just the extreme the download speeds on the iphone goes up to 50-75mb. As a note I have an AirPort Extreme on the top floor of my house (second floor) that's where my modem is located. On the first floor that's where one airport express is located. I also have another airport express in the basement that is accessed by my landlord. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be helpful.

It appears that your networking goals with the AirPort Express is to use it as a wireless Ethernet bridge instead of using it to extend the wireless range of your AirPort Extreme. The latter requires that the Express Wi-Fi radios be enabled.
If you intended to use the Express as a wireless bridge, you just need to reconfigure it to "Join a wireless" network instead of "Extend a wireless network."

In an extended network, the placement of the extending base station is critical as it can only extend the wireless network at the bandwidth at which it receives it.
Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on optimal base station placement.

  • Is there a way to turn on Ask to Buy for those older than 18?

Is there a way to turn on Ask to Buy when sharing with an individual older than 18?

    Hey photogpreacha,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you want to turn on Ask to Buy for a member over 18 years old. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy - Apple Support
Ask to Buy is on by default for any children under 13, and you'll be asked if you want to enable Ask to Buy when inviting anyone under 18 to your family group.* If you turn off Ask to Buy for a family member after they turn 18,* you can't turn it on again.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a good one,

  • HT201401 The volume buttons on the side of my iPhone 4S do not work . Is there a way to turn them on or off or are they broken

Volume button don't work . Can they be turned on and off?

If the iPhone falsely senses it is docked due to short in the charging port it can disable Volume buttons. Shorting in charging port can be due to dust, debris, etc. If no Warranty, clean with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol. Never hurts to try a Restore with current iTunes on your computer, too.

  • Is there a way to selectively put on and off your data-connection(3G)?

    Hi there!
I'm currently working on an app that uses GPS to track a person's location, this location is than in turn send to an online database.
Obviously sending that location to the database requires an internet connection, I could use WIFI for that which is no issue but what if there's no WIFI available, if that's the case I want to use the phone's 3G data connection.
Since I only need that connection for a short period(just to send the location to the database) I think it's rather dumb to put it on when opening the app and keeping it on as long as the app is running.-->It would quickly drain the available data memory.
So my question is, is there a way to put the 3G connection ON and OFF in code? So the app would have the rights to do that.
To clarify: Suppose whenever I track a person's location(every 5 minutes for example --> that's sufficient for my app even though it doesn't seem so useful) I want to put on the 3G connection to send the location to the database.
The following 5 minutes however I've no need of that internet connection since no communication with the Database is required so I would want to put the 3G connection off then.
    -->Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance!
    My best regards

There is no way to turn on and off the phones 3g connection via code.

  • Is there a way to turn 'find my iphone' off other than using my phone? The screen is not working, and I'd like to reset it, but cannot because that feature is on!

The screen on my son's 5c is not working - all black.  I am trying to reset the phone but cannot because 'find my iphone' is turned on.  I cannot use the screen to turn it off.
I also cannot backup the phone because I cannot enter the passcode on the screen!  Any ideas on how to get around the passcode AND turn off the 'find my iphone' feature?

I would love to help you with this, CoachKat. Given the situation, you will need to connect your phone to iTunes via a PC. This will allow you to reset the device. Let me know if you need additional assistance.

  • Is there a way to turn your voice mail off

On the i phone 5 c is it possible to turn voice mail off ? I do not want voice mail.

        strawnw88,
Thanks for your question! I have some good news for you.  Voicemail on the iPhone 5c is optional.  You can choose not to set it up if you don't have a use for it.  If you've already set it up on your end, then we may need to disable from the network side.
Let us know if you need further assistance with this!

  • My plus and minus volume control doesn't work.. Is there any way of turning them on or off? Or is my phone faulty?

My plus and minus volume control doesn't seem to work.
Can I switch the volume on?

    Hi Timjazzhair,
Go to Settings ==> Sounds and in 'Ringer and Alert' set 'Change with Buttons' to YES.
Woops! Meg beat me to it!

  • Why does my Verizon Iphone 5 personal hotspot sometimes not work?  I have to keep turning it on and off for it to come up.  This is a problem that I am having when connecting to a computer PC and MAC and a Ipod Touch and my Ipad.

This issue is making me start to think that I have a defective peice of equipment.  It seems as though i have to restart the hotspot multiple times for it to work and when it does work it drops the device after being tether to it, and then I have to start the whole process over again.

I HAVE RESOLVED THIS!!  The problem was that I was signed in to iCloud on my iphone with an old Apple ID and using a different Apple ID on my pc. I signed out of iCloud on my phone, then re-signed in with the same id as the iCloud on my pc. Presto chango. All is well.

  • Way To Turn JUST The Screen Off?

    Hi,
Suppose you're leaving your iMac rendering for some video, or encoding a video, and it's going to take a couple of hours, is there any way to turn the LCD screen off to save energy, without turning off the iMac? My immediate instinct is to push the Sleep button on the back, but this will stop the encoding, which isn't what I want to do.

    Here it is:
    Sleep Display Widget
and it's also available as an application.

  • Is there a way to turn of error reporting on clients?

I have PHD setup and working. Everything works fine except for two (unimportant) files which are giving me Posix 102 errors. This wouldn't really be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that I have to acknowledge these errors via two dialog boxes before the machines log out. Since the whole sync takes about 5 minutes it's like watching paint dry before you can finally leave the office.
Is there a way to turn of the error reporting dialogs during sync so that it just finishes and the machine logs out?
    OS X Server 10.5.6 / OS X 10.5.6

    Yes.
Its in WorkGroup Manager > select user, group with mobilehomes or whatever you wish to add this adjustment to > Preferences > Details > Double click Home Sync > Turn down the "Always" tab > You should see all of the sync settings you currently have. > Make sure the "Always" line is highlited and press "new key" at the top > a new line now reads New Item > Click on New Item and you will see a variety of options not in the GUI.
You may want "Suppress logout preference sync errors" or "Suppress logout non-preference sync errors" which do what they say or "logout dialog timeout" which can be set to a number of seconds to display the errors before dismissing them automatically. Or you may wish to add all three. Whichever you choose make sure to edit the "value" field to the right. There are some instructions which appear at the bottom of the window to help clarify what the options are. In any case, if you suppress or do a dialog timeout you will be able to select shut down and walk away without concern.

  • My wife and I share an iTunes account. Is there any way to set up a seperate one for her to sync her phone contacts, iCloud and music to without having to purchase all her music again and then share going forward?

My wife and I share an iTunes account. Is there any way to set up a seperate one for her to sync her phone contacts, iCloud and music to without having to purchase all her music again and then share going forward?
It would be so much easier having seperate accounts but we have hundreds of her purchased songs on my account and she would need to be able to access these from her account. Possible?
Also, if we bought a song in future we would want to be able to both have access to it.
Alternatively, what is the easy way to sync two distinctly different contact lists to one iTunes account?
    Thank you in advance.

FYI: iTunes account (used to make purchases) is not the same as iTunes library (iTunes on your computer with music, movies, etc.).
    ecbclb wrote:
Will we have to create a seperate account for her, or can we all have the same one?
You can but you will not be able to limit what she syncs.
I would like to avoid 'checking' and 'unchecking' individual songs every time one of us tries to synch our ipods to the library.
I don't recommend using (only) the checkmarks to select what to sync.
Each of you can create your own playlists then sync only those playlists.
Then add/delete from your own playlists to change iPod content.
The only time I uncheck items is if I rarely/never want to sync them to anything, such as Christmas music or old audiobooks.
I suggest you each have your own computer login account. Then everyone has their own contacts, calendars, and everything else.
You and your husband can share an iTunes library and let your daughter have her own.

  • When sharing screen from work with my home computer, is there any way to turn off the display at home?

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question, but when I'm viewing my desktop on the home computer from work (as in I've connected by finding my computer in the finder and hit the "Share Screen" button - is there any way to turn off the display at home? It seems a bit of a waste of power to have the screen on when I'm not actually there - I just need to be able to see all my programs etc on the remote screen in order to use them. My home computer is a 2011 iMac running latest Mountain Lion, work is a 2010 MacBook Pro.
    Thanks in advance!
    Matt

I've set up another user on my home Mac and left that one logged in. Now when I connect from work it asks me if I want to share the screen or log on virtually as my user. I think choosing the second option doesn't power up the screen.
