  • Is there a way to upgrade a MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display (Model ID:MacBookPro10,1) for thunderbolt 2 capability?

Im just wondering if there is a way to upgrade an older machine to allow thunderbolt 2.
This might be a silly question as I can't seem to find anything about it anywhere.
I may just have to buy a new machine but it would be great if I could just upgrade the one I have.
    Any information would be appreciated.

You would have to purchase a new machine in order to gain Thunderbolt 2 capabilities.

    This will do the trick.
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.

Any advice would be helpful regarding this subject.....

You can start by upgrading your RAM. An advise would be to buy it from internet, here is a good page for that: https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac Along with some useful manuals for doing the upgrading yourself

  • Is there a way to customize the MacBook Air Favorites Toolbar so that each favorite looks like the real logo for that website with actual colors?  Like eBay, Google, ESPN, etc....

Is there an app or download to do this?  It's hard looking all the way across the toolbar each time I want to click on ESPN, etc.. Would be much easier if the ESPN logo was up there and easy to find.  I am currently using Mavericks.

Many of your points are totally legitimate.
    This one, however, is not:
…To put it another way, the design of the site seems to be geared much more towards its regular users than those the site is supposedly trying to "help"…
The design and management of the forums for more than five years have driven literally dozens of the most valuable contributors and "regulars" away from the forums—permanently.
The only conclusion a prudent, reasonable person can draw from this state of affairs is that Adobe consciously and deliberately want to kill these forums by attrition—without a the PR hit they would otherwise take if they suddenly just shut them down.

I'm looking for a laptop that will last me a couple of years which is why I'm upgrading to SSD without losing performance. I usually game on my Mac so I want a laptop to handle that, handle programs in the background and writing or reading without losing speed, I also need a laptop that has fast boot time.
I will be using the laptop mainly for school and running programs such as iWork and mircrosoft office as well as websurfing and video streaming thanks for any advice.

I hope others pipe in with their comments, but the first suggestion is to visit your local Apple Store and try out the units. Trying them out can make a difference in your decision.
This is how I'd try to make sense of this:
    MBP 13 2012:
Solid all-purpose portable at a decent price, and even has a 240GB SSD. If you don't load it with tons to videos, this will more than fit your needs as a student and websurfer. A little heavier than the others here, but it's a solid package that's stable. Great if you need to use the CD/DVD.
    MBA 13 2012:
Also good, similar specs, notably lighter. Notes are easy to take, and easier to carry on long campus treks. If you're not near a power source, the battery life may be a concern. If you need a CD/DVD, you can connect it when you need it - but it's extra. Servicing a MBA is more difficult.
    MBR 15 2012:
Beautiful display, packed with performance. No DVD/CD drive, NVIDIA performance is unproven, kind of pricey, the first generation of a device; it's going to get better over time. Can't be serviced in any way by the user; the Apple Store is your only option. Now's not the best time to get the MBR.
    MBR 13 2012:
    Same comments.
I'd say the MBA is a good pick. Few moving parts, therefore more reliability. Low heat. You can always attach a CD/DVD drive via USB. Intel Graphics is solid; no problems there. Plenty of capacity for your needs. And the display is bright. MBA 13 or 11, IMO.

  • I just got my MacBook Pro a month ago. However I am realizing I need more hard drive space due to aps and programs.  I use am external but am concerned about the space. Is there a way to upgrade my hard drive from apple and keep my warranty valid?

That would depend on whether your model actually has a hard drive. If you have the new 2013 Retina model, then you have a fixed storage device built-in that cannot be modified after purchase.

  • I have a 2007 13" Macbook White. Is there any way to upgrade my OS from 10.6.8 to anything above 10.7?

I have a 2007 13" Macbook White. Is there any way to upgrade my OS from 10.6.8 to anything above 10.7? I keep getting an error message when I try to download 10.8.3 because Apple didn't make it compatible with my machine, but I really only need 10.7. So is there ANY possible way to do this with my current Macbook? Thanks for the help guys.

According to these system requirements, no, there is no way to go higher than Lion (10.7), as Mountain Lion (10.8) will not be compatible.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Also note that both Lion and Mountain Lion are memory hogs and the realistic minimum RAM should be 4 GB; you can run it with 2 GB, but depending on how you use your machine, you may not be happy with its performance.

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Is there a way to upgrade my older (First generation) macbook air from Lion to Mavericks?

The original MacBook Air can't be upgraded past 10.7.5, and unless someone's previously downloaded Mavericks or otherwise noted, the installer for it isn't available.

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.

  • Is there a way to upgrade the 512GB hdd to 1TB on a 2011 mbp under applecare so that the applecare is not voided?

Is there a way to upgrade the 512GB hdd to 1TB on a 2011 mbp under applecare so that the applecare is not voided?
    I am currently using Mavericks.

A hard drive replacement doesn't void warranty on a MacBook Pro, so you can replace the hard drive without worrying about its warranty. However, you have to be sure of what you are doing, because if you damage any part, you will void warranty.
First look for a hard drive. I recommend you to visit OWC for hard drives > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ 7200 rpm hard drives will give you extra performance.
Then, just reinstall OS X through OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 Hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting, format the hard drive with Disk Utility and reinstall OS X or restore a Time Machine backup

My ipod touch is currently running ios 4.2.1 I would like to run ios 5 or 6. When I try to update it on itunes, it tells me my software is up to date. Is there another way to upgrade the IOS?  Do I have to go to Settings>General>reset>Erase all content and settings before I can get the newer ios?  If this is the case, how can I ensure all my content is backed up prior to erasing it all. Is there anyway to check to ensure the backup is complete and comprehensive?  THanks!

A second generation iPod touch can't be updated past 4.2.1.

Unless the machine was originally offered with an upgradeable option, no, the parts would have to be replaced with the same spec parts. You do realize that a logic board replacement can be as much as $600 or more?
