If it's a 1st generation iPad, no. If it's a later iPad, iOS 8 will be available under Settings > General > Software Update.

You'll need to log into your account at www.icloud.com and use the "Find My iPhone". If the iPad was truly activated, you would see it there. But, you still need to contact the proper authorities (the police) to retrieve it.

Is there any way I can update my iPad to ios5 without using iTunes?
My home PC crashed, and I haven't gotten a new one yet, and it's my understanding that if I can upgrade to ios5, I can use the Cloud instead. Also, what about all of my music in iTunes that is stores on my external hard drive?

It looks like what I'm going to have to do is get a new laptop/pc - I'm fine with that.
However, presuming I get a new PC, install iTunes, all of my current stuff on my iPad and iPhone is backed up, I install the new os, and everything is good .... then I plug in my external hard drive with all of my music. Some of the iTunes music and movies on my external drive were purchased years ago with a now defunct Apple account and Yahoo email address. How can I access these items? I remember getting an error last time I tried to sync, and these items wouldn't sync.

Is there a way to re-sync an iPad with a computer after the computer was rebuilt?
iTunes wants to wipe the device after I had to rebuild a laptop that was infected by a virus. Unfortunately, the virus may have affected iTunes as well so I had to reinstall it. I did log into my Apple ID Account and deauthorized all computers it was using and then reauthorized it but that didn't help.
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

I have a 5 year old MacBook running OS X v10.5.8 Of course Apple does not provide an OS update and then other software apps won't update because the OS is obsolete. Is there a way of upgrading the hardware so the software can be made current?

They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. Since upgrading to 10.8 I've had alot of issues burning DVD's. I've had the drive replaced and now I can burn from a new user account but not the old one. Is there any way of making the old one work?

Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule? It used to work with old Airport Extreme network, run from a intel iMac with updates thru Mavericks but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA and can't connect to Time Capsule. Airport Extreme Base was controllable from either computer up through Snow Leopard (I didn't do any of the Lion upgrades). Then when I upgraded to Mavericks I lost the ability to use Airport Utility with this hardware on the Sunflower but could still connect wirelessly to network without any problems. But now with the Time Capsule upgrade the Sunflower is blocked from network by a dialogue that requests ony WEP password, not WPA pwd used by Time Capsule. Neither can I use the old airport extreme base to extend the time capsule network since I can't input the correct password/encryption approach to join it. Is there a work around? Would a newer but old Airport Express be able to extend network to Sunflower? Or maybe a third party wireless (such as Netgear, Dlink, etc) that has browser type control rather than special utility?
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network. I can’t claim to completely grasp the issue(s) you’re describing, but the underlying problem is presumably your iMac’s obsolete AirPort card. Whatever the case, an obvious (if not particularly helpful) answer to your stated question would be to connect your iMac with an ethernet cable, using powerline adapters as an alternative if you don’t want to have wire running all over the place.
My still fully functional clamshell iBook, with an original AirPort card, connects wirelessly to my 4th Generation TC network by means of a cheap 802.11b/g/n USB Wi-Fi adapter. This might be an option for you too.

I'd upgrade, but maps the way it is now works very well for me and is one of the things I use most on my iPhone. Is there any way to keep the old version of maps when upgrading?
No - just don't upgrade until Google release there maps app. I wish I could go back to yesterday and give myself this advice.

.psd (photoshop) files should open in preview to view them and make some simple adjustments.

I am using an iphone 5. Recently it malfunctioned and I was told by apple that my old back up had a corruption with it an caused my phone to malfunction. Apple had to redownload the operating system. I was also told that I can not use my old back on my phone I need to delete it and manually download everything. I DID NOT USE ICLOUD. However I do have my old back up still on my mac in itunes. I just want to access my notes so I can type them back into my notes on my fixed phone.you can restore from your backup again just to get the notes. once you've restored from the backup, copy your notes into your icloud notes group or email them to yourself - basically, get them somewhere else so they're not just locally stored on the device. once you've moved your notes elsewhere, restore the device as new again like apple had you do. this will again put a fresh version of the operating system on your phone like it has right now

My ipod touch is currently running ios 4.2.1 I would like to run ios 5 or 6. When I try to update it on itunes, it tells me my software is up to date. Is there another way to upgrade the IOS? Do I have to go to Settings>General>reset>Erase all content and settings before I can get the newer ios? If this is the case, how can I ensure all my content is backed up prior to erasing it all. Is there anyway to check to ensure the backup is complete and comprehensive? THanks!
