Is there a way to use Automator or Applescript to launch the Mac App Store and download updates automatically?
As the subject indicates, I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to use AppleScript or Automator to launch the Mac App Store and download any available updates on a set schedule.
I would advise against this. Updates sometimes reduce functionality or break programs. I would never get an update with working software unless there is a specific problem you are trying to solve.
I have read many desperate posts from people trying to go back to earlier versions for various reasons. This is easy to do with disk-based software, but with downloaded software, going backward can be more difficult.

It's a simple question but I cannot find an answer. I just know you can't. It makes no sense to not allow us to even purchase an update at a lower cost as opposed to repurchasing the app from the app store at the full cost. Can anyone say why this is the case? It makes me not want to ever use the app store.
I get that, but that's not the point. What I am saying is that the customer experience is poor. It should work the same as it used to when you bought software from a brick and mortar store.
When you buy an app (software) from a sellers website, you should be able to purchase an upgrade from any vendor. This means even though I bought an app like OmniPlan direct from the OmniGroup... It would be nice to purchase the upgrade, or even download the update from Apple's Mac App Store.
It just makes for a better customer experience. -
Update for iWorks message says go to Apple store and use "update" tab. There is no updates tab.

Is there a way to use Automator or AppleScript to convert iWork documents to Office Documents?
I use iWork for my documents, but I sometimes need to convert a folder of iWork files to Microsoft Office files. It's one thing to convert one iWork document, but it's very tedious when I need to convert multiple documents. I'm hoping to be able to automate this process. By the way, I'm using the latest versions of the iWork applications, which I know have a lot less or no Automator support.
Interestingly, the only Pages specific command in the AppleScript dictionary for Pages 5.1 is Export, and Word is one of the available formats. I have no idea how well it works (and no interest in producing Word docs) but it might be possible to do this for Pages documents.
Numbers 3.1 has just added AppleScript support, but it does not have an Export command.
I don't have Keynote to check. -
The title pretty much covers it. I'd like to be able to tell which apps I've already reviewed, and which I haven't, so that I can review apps I haven't yet. I'd also like to be able to read reviews I've already posted so that I can post follow-ups if my opinions have changed with further use of the app. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi. I bough iWork 09 and installed it on my MacBook Pro. When I launch the Mac App Store, it recognizes that Pages, Keynote and Numbers are all installed. Unfortunately, I've now lost the discs and I now want to install it on my Mac Pro. Is there any way to do this through the Mac App Store?

I want to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion, but without that mac app store it seems to be impossible.
I did all software updates but never got that mac app store. So what can I do now?THis is because you have two OS X upgrade steps. First, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard ($29 us, disk only, no download).
Once you've upgraded to Snow Leopard, and run Software Update to get to 10.6.8 then you'll have the Mac App Store and can take the second OS X upgrade step to Lion 10.7.2. -

Is there a way to get receipts for previously purchased items in the Mac App store?
I just switched computers and did not save all of my receipts from my previously purchased items from the Mac app store. I was wondering if there was any way to retrieve receipts that showed how much I paid and when I bought the items.
Open iTunes on the new Mac, sign into your account and view your account information. There is a section for Purchase History where you can view the invoices for everything that you have ever bought from the iTunes stores and the Mac App Store.

No unfortunately the Mac App Store is a new purchase.
In compensation it is very cheap and you can install it on any of your Macs using the same Apple ID.
There is no need to switch yet, they are the same versions. Wait until their is a new version of Pages eg Pages '12 or '13 and then switch because that will be a new charge.

Another way is to open your Time Machine back up or clone (if you have one) and copy the App Store app from the /Applications to your Macintosh HD's /Application folder.
Right click on the Time Machine icon in the Menu Bar.
Select Enter Time Machine; then navigate to a date you know it was still there and copy if from the /Applications folder. -
Can use the Mac App Store behind a HTTP/1.1 proxy
We have an HTTP/1.1 proxy at work, and when doing a download from the Mac Apps Store, the downloaded data comes through as "Transfer-Encoding: chunked".
According to the HTTP 1.1 specification (the request is made as HTTP/1.1), the client MUST be able to decode the chunked transfer encoding (see the end of section 3.6.1 in rfc2616).
Am I missing something? Or is there a way to make the Mac App Store use HTTP/1.0, or support the standard?
