Is there a workaround so for Leopard and iCloud yet?

I have an iMac PowerPC on Leopard at work and a MobileMe account which syncs my iPhone4 (iOS4), iPad1 (iOS4), my work iMac (Leopard) and my home Mac Pro (Snow Leopard). Syncing works perfectly. I love it.
I've been holding off on updating my MacPro to Lion and my devices to iOS5 and iCloud because I REALLY don't want to lose the ability to use Leopard Addressbook and iCal at work.
I just hate the thought of my iMac Addressbook and iCal databases not being sync'able anymore rending them useless, certainly more and more as I add to my calendars and contacts on my other 3 devices with my iMac out f the loop since you can't go farther than Leopard on a PowerPC.
If there is no way to keep my iMac in the synch "loop" after upgrading to iCloud, I guess I'll be forced to use my iPad or iPhone Contacts and Calendar at work and have them sync to iCloud so at least my iPhone, iPad and MacPro will be in sync.
What a shame. I know I'm not alone. I can't get work to buy me a new Mac (especially since everyone else is on PCs) just so I can use my computer's Addressbook and iCal applications. Otherwise it's still a viable computer.
I'm hoping there's some 3rd party programmer out there working on solving this issue. There are just too many Leopard computers out there with lots of life in them to become obsolete because of iCloud. What a strange way to kill a computer product and OS line.

The problem with the post above is that events created in ical don't sync to icloud, ical can only retrieve it from the cloud,so I tried something to solve that.
Just figured out how to get an icloud-account in ical for Leopard 10.5.8
you'll find the info in:
~/library/calendars/[the calendar that ends with] .caldav/info.plist
Open the info.plist with textedit
somewhere down the page you'll find <key>PrincipalURL</key>
underneath this:
<string>https://p02-caldav.icloud.com:/XXXXXXXXX/calendars/YYYYYYYY-YYYY-YYYY-YYYY-Y/</string>
X.....being your unique ID
Y.....being the calender ID
In ical:
-Click create account
-description = whatever name you like
-user name= apple id
-password=apple id
-server options= https://p02-caldav.icloud.com/[your unique ID]/principal/
This creates the icloud account.
Than:
-export a calendar to the desktop
-drag the calendar on the icloud account
there's your icloud calendar!
click 'get info' from that calendar and you will see the url that should connect to icloud but......it doesn't!
Can anyone help me with that please?
I tried a thousand different url's but I can't get ical to connect with icloud.

Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.

  • Different Apple IDs for iTunes and iCloud

As a legacy from MobileMe,  I have one Apple ID for iTunes (around 10 years old) that has all of my purchases, and another for iCloud (created later as a requirement of MobileMe) that has all the email, syncing, etc.  Apparently now I can't use Family Sharing because I am signed into iTunes and iCloud with different Apple IDs.
This has caused other issues as well for years, and I would like to once and for all have one Apple ID for both iTunes and iCloud.  What will happen if I start signing into iCloud with my original iTunes Apple ID?  I'm assuming I will lose the following:
-- Any email in the cloud
    -- All calendar info
    -- All notes
    Am I correct?
    Anything else I would lose?
Any way to avoid losing all this?
Is there a better way to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

  • Is there a final verdict on Leopard and eMacs?? (1.42 ghz versions)

I've read nearly every upgrade post here about Leopard and eMacs and for the life of me I don't get the impression that there is a correct answer on this upgrade. It seems that the eMac is too close to the minimum requirements to run Leopard with any degree of comfort. True? Not many success stories here.

I have a 1.25 GHz version. I was running 10.3 and started to get frustrated with some web sites not working on the older version of Safari. Also some of the recent upgrades to adobe etc weren't supported by 10.3. As a short fix I downloaded the Camino browser. This solved a lot of the surfing problems. I finally decided to bite the bullet and bought the Mac Box set of Leopard, iLife '09 and iWork '09.
At the risk of sounding negative I have had nothing but problems since. This may all be down to my own incompetence (I am not technically minded) or down to the fact that my eMac is reaching the end of it's days. Either way I am now facing up to the fact that I may have to go and buy another computer. I've had problems with Mail (I now know this to be a known problem, see forums for fix). A kernal panic, resulting in an erase and reinstall. I am now suffering from very slow performance across all applications with more spinning beach ball than I've ever witnessed. I've scoured the forums for help and have tried everything within my limited technical ability. Repaired disk and permissions, ran the hardware test, created a new user, checked activity monitor. My hard disk is less than 50% utilised and I have 1 GB of RAM. All very disappointing. I was hoping that Leopard would blow the rest of my family away and that I would be in a good position to pitch for a new Mac! Now I'm not so sure.
I apologise for such a disappointing post and I hope you have better luck!

  • Are there LabView VI's for accessing and writing data to a CDF?

I am currently trying to develop a data acquisition system using LabView to acquire the data and to write the data to a file in NSSDC's Common Data Format (CDF). The CDF distribution (Windows 2000) comes with a precompiled dll of the CDF library of functions. Unfortunately, LabView crashes when I try to use the Call Library Function node. I am confident that it is not a function prototype error, but it may be that the CDF library is not thread-safe.
Has anyone developed VIs for writing and accessing data in CDF format?
Does anyone know how I can determine why the Call Library Function node causes LabView to crash when it uses a particular dll? There are a host of reasons given in the "Using External Co
de" manual, but no apparant way of determining which one is the culprit.

Thank you for your response. Actually, I have solved the problem by recompiling the source code for the CDF distribution using the Cygwin development environment. Cygwin provides a unix C compiler and linker which can create Windows executables and dlls. After modifying the makefiles that came with the CDF distribution I was able to build the dll and then use the Call Library Module to access the CDF functions.
A note about this process: the linker that Cygwin exports both Windows-style and C-style functions when it creates the dll. Be carefull not to use functions that end in underscores from the CDF dll as C-style functions.
Also, I would like to point out that the current faliure method of the Call Library Module (i.e. crashing LabView) is not acceptable.
It would be much better if LabView would generate an error message or an error log entry in case of a dll failure. I would hope that this scenario would be a target goal for future development of LabView. The Call Library Module is an incredibly powerful tool in that opens up many avenues of development -- it deserves a better way diagnosing problems.

  • Using outlook 2011 for Mac and iCloud

    Hello all,
I am starting a new job and the office uses Outlook 2011 for Mac. I am looking for a calendar solution so that I can use the invitation features in Outlook, but have my calendar available on my iPhone and iPad.
I have searched on these forums and it seems that Outlook 2011 is not compatible with iCloud. So for a workaround, I wonder if there is a good (or, better yet, excellent) calendar app for iPhone and iPad that will sync with the Outlook calendar on my Mac?
btw all devices are running the latest OS.
    Thanks!

Copy all events on to just one calendar and use that. Remember to put it in the iCloud account and the On My Mac account.

  • Snow Leopard and iCloud

I intend to leave my MB at OS10.6.8 when I switch over the iCloud on my iMac later this week.  Is any/all of my mail/address book/calendar syncing going to cease on the laptop?

You can migrate from MobileMe to iCloud at http://me.com/move even with Snow Leopard: when asked to confirm that your Mac is running Lion just lie and say 'yes'. Of course you won't be able to access iCloud directly from your Mac.
If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it.
This will be the situation with Snow Leopard when you have migrated:
•Your email, calendars, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud. Contacts and Bookmarks cannot be migrated from a Snow Leopard Mac.
•Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
•Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart •Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
•You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
•You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
•You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
•You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
•Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.
•Address Book won't sync: this page has a convoluted hack to make it sync which has been reported as working (and as not working by others). I've not tried it.
There are a couple of third-party solutions which may be of interest.
•BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion. A single user licence (two machines allowed) is $49.99.
•Soho Organizer can sync Calendars and Contacts with iCloud on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. A single user licence (multiple machines allowed) is $99.99.
(I have no connection with either firm.)

  • Family Sharing when having different accounts for purchasing and iCloud

I have two Apple ID accounts. One that I use for making iTunes purchases (which I had way before @me.com or @icloud.com existed) and the new @icloud.com account that I use for everything iCloud related (Messages, backups, etc).
Now that Family Sharing exists, I want to bring my kids and my wife into the plan, but from what I've seen, I wouldn't be able to use my icloud.com address since all my purchases are on the other Apple ID. The problem is that either I would need to stop using my icloud.com ID or purchase everything again?
I know one of the most requested features has been to be able to merge accounts and I know I am not the only one in this situation. Is there a way in iOS 8 Family Sharing to do just that? I wouldn't mind removing my old Apple ID account as long as I can transfer all my purchases to the new icloud.com ID.
Otherwise, I guess Family Sharing is out for me (and for everyone who is on the same boat of having 2 different Apple IDs).

Ok teach me to believe stuff I read on the Internet!! But I did get it to work.
So how in effect it is not working much differently to the old way under ios7 that worried me when iTunes Match was going to use "icloud" and not my existing Apple ID. But as we all found out we could use our @me.com or @icloud.com address for all they syncing stuff and then further down there was an option for your iTunes store account where most of us used our old iTunes Store account.
So after reading this thread and many similar articles on new family sharing I thought we may have the same issue, but it seems we are ok.
    How I did it:
    1) Set up Family Sharing,
    2) when asked for AppleID enter my @me.com address and password
    3) click next, it asks what AppleID to use for Store purchases for the family, here I entered my old store id which is so old is actually just a username.
    4) confirm payment card
This seems to have worked, my purchases through AppStore are still made through my old id and all family purchases will be made through that id too.
But as far as my family are concerned @me.com addy is the organiser.
I have yet to set up family members but I trust Apple that it will work they haven't let me down yet (apart from the mucking around with Photostream that they seem to have done).
Also you can check in your settings whether it is set up correctly, go to Family Sharing via icloud settings, click on your name as organiser, it should show what AppleID your family purchases are made through, mine shows my normal AppStore ID, when I get home I'll upload some screenshots (once edited out my details!)
