Is there a (workaround) way to "destructively trim" Aperture videos?

I've managed to accrue several 100 GBs of video in my Aperture library.  Many of these videos are 5-10 mins long, whereas the portion of interest is only 10-20 seconds long.  I am trying to find a way to permanently trim these videos down to these key sections to save hard drive space, and have these trimmed videos alongside the photos I have taken in my Aperture projects.
I've looked for any sort of plug-in that would be able to permanently trim videos - but couldn't find any.  Are there any available?  I understand that the built-in Trim option keeps the original data intact.
I've also tried exporting the original videos,  editing them outside of Aperture, and then re-importing them back in.  The problem with this is that:
a) I have yet to find a way to crop the videos without editing the timestamp of the video, which is quite important to me (I've tried Quick Time Pro, along with a few others), and
b) the export/re-import process takes a prohibitively long time
Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated!

If this can "help" you I remember that also in previous versions of OSX sometimes Activity Monitor did not show certain particular videos: I think it depends by the way the video is set on the web page (something too technical for me)
Anyway the best solution for downloading videos from the web will always be Firefox + the extension "DownLoadThemAll". Unfortunately there is nothing like it for Safari.
I have also tryed different Apps & Tricks for downloading easily videos from Youtube but the "Dream team" Firefox+DownLoadThemAll is always the best!
Maybe there is something similar with Greasekit but actually the "Activity" method works fine for me.

  • Is there a quick way to open a resident video in fullscreen mode?

Short and not-so-simple, I have a client who requires the following:
Starting from the home screen, he wants the shortest number of taps to open a video (resident on the device) in fullscreen mode. Ideally, I wanted to have a "shortcut" on his home screen that opens a directory on his iPad that contains videos. Unfortunately, iOS does not allow for this. In fact, finding resident files on the HDD at all doesn't seem so easy.
For now, I have him going to his camera, switching to video, and then opening the Video Roll to access videos I've downloaded to his iPad from various sources like email attachments or download links. This is definitely not a long-term solution.
To clarify, the client needs to be able to bring up one of several videos near-instantly, with no buffering and in many cases without an active internet connection. He wants his iPad to be a video gallery, with "a two-click process." Someone (such as myself) would be syncing/uploading the videos as they are created, updated, or replaced, so getting videos onto his iPad easily and remotely (if possible) is also a desire (Dropbox or iTunes?).
Can someone please give me some advice? I am an idiot with iOS, as I spend all of my time on Android devices.

Is this a cpvc or a cptx file, when you talk about 'video'?

  • Just want to replace some video with photos, but LEAVE AUDIO THERE. No way?

Is there no simple way to just replace some video with other video or photos, but not affect audio? I have an interview, and they're talking about places, and I want to put in photos of the places. Pretty basic stuff.
    Thanks for whatever help...

OK, yeah, CUTAWAY. But, I have the audio "purpled". Should it be? And my photo is sitting ABOVE the place where I want it. How do I get it to go down where it's supposed to? I really need a step-by-step here. I see how to manage the duration of the cutaway, but I don't see how to actually get it INTO the track, and how to "un-purple" the audio track.
    Thank you!

  • Is there any way to disable TRIM during installation?

I have a ThinkPad T43, which due to its unorthodox setup for IDE drives (Internal SATA converted to IDE) doesn't work too well with IDE to mSATA adapters. They work fine until you try to use TRIM. Then, you just get a bunch of read errors because of the limitations in converting SATA to IDE to SATA. This means that I can't install without the system giving me read errors. Is there a way to disable TRIM during the installation so that I don't have to install Arch on a hard drive and somehow get it onto the SSD without the SSD freezing up?

Could this be related to mkfs' default to discard? From the man
    discard
Attempt  to  discard blocks at mkfs time (discarding
blocks initially is useful on  solid  state  devices
and  sparse  /  thin-provisioned  storage). When the
device advertises that discard also zeroes data (any
subsequent  read  after the discard and before write
returns zero), then mark  all  not-yet-zeroed  inode
tables  as  zeroed.  This  significantly  speeds  up
filesystem initialization. This is set as default.
                       nodiscard
Do not attempt to discard blocks at mkfs time.
You should try with -E nodiscard, see if it helps

  • Syncing - is there a better way?

Like others, I am having trouble keeping iTunes from overriding changes made directly on my iPhone.  Specifically, it removes purchased songs from playlists and adds back songs I deleted from the library.  The latter is more than a trivial annoyance for me as my music library does not fit on my device.  As such, I only have a sizeable subset (~900 out of 1500 songs) on there, one that I continually trim as I add new songs, videos and apps.  If I make the mistake of trying to sync with iTunes, in addition to losing my changes, I am typically treated to a galling sync-failed-because-you're-out-of-space-type message.  The only way around it seems to be to pre-emptively go into iTunes and manually uncheck each and every song I deleted before plugging in.  Needless to say, I gave up and stopped trying about a year ago.  Before I completely throw in the towel and buy an Android phone when my contract runs up, is there a workaround?
Problem seems to boil down to one of "syncing philosophy".  I want changes made on my phone to overwrite what is on my computer/iTunes - across the board, no ifs, ands or buts - not the other way around.  In the new mobile-centric world, one that Apple has in large part driven us to, this is the way it should be.  Why is it not even an option?
    Thanks

    Thanks a lot Mike.
    That helped a lot.
Just one more thing - Before plugging in the iPad for the first time
do I need to go to iTunes Preferences and go to Devices and check
"Prevent ipods iPhones and Ipads from syncing automatically"
to keep from accidentally loading everything on iTunes onto the Ipad ?
It is currently not checked. What is the reason for checking this box ?
    thanks again

  • Is there any workaround at all to run PM7 on a Intel-based Mac?

    Dear friends:
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro and, before I did, I asked some questions to Apple about the possibility of having the software pre-installed, specifically, BootCamp and Classic, receiving the computer with a partition already made and requirements of the sort. Basically, Technical Support told me that they were not able to perform any of these tasks, although the person I have spoken to said to me that I could run PageMaker (I think he mentioned an update). After a couple of days researching, it appears that I have been misinformed. Unfortunately I have several hundreds of PageMaker files in archive, and I cannot afford to lose the ability to open them directly (I am a radical InDesign fan, I have used it since v.1.0). Does anybody know any workaround at all to run PageMaker 7 on a Intel-based Mac? Maybe some software to emulate the Classic? Maybe an upgrade or a third-party application? I cannot believe that MacOS supports Windows (in fact, I have installed Windows Vista) better than its predecessor Mac OS 9.2.2.
Thanks a lot for your time,
    Eduardo Guarniz

    >Does anybody know any workaround at all to run PageMaker 7 on a Intel-based Mac?
Well there are two ways. the best way is to have an old machine that boots OS9. If you don't have one, buy one. I found one for about $69 a few years ago I'm sure they are even cheaper now.
There is some software called SheepShaver its supposed to run Classic apps on a Mactel. With all the problems of running PM in Classic (I would never use PM for production in Classic) Its probably even worse running on SheepShaver.
Be smart get the old machine.

  • Is there a better way to do this? Interactive graphics on a PDF

    Hello
Part of a PDF form I am planning requires the user to place several marks on a series of dots.
I have partially achieved this using check boxes and many hidden objects.
http://www.hoodoomayhem.com/example/Example.pdf focus on the small dots in the upper right.
Is there a smarter way to achieve this without using thousands of hidden objects.
I am quite new to scripting and do appreciate any suggestions.
I look forward to some feedback

That update should only be a single statement - not within a loop. The basic structure here should be something like:
    update central_printing_staging cps
       set sent_for_printing_date = trim(sysdate)
    where central_printing_staging_id in (select ...
                                             from <variation of complex query>);
    open p_centralprinting_refcursor
for <complex query snipped>;The only question I have is whether the ref cursor is supposed to reflect the updated values or not, or if the two are even related or not - can't tell without seeing the query.

  • Is there a workaround for the missing global track chords?

Is there a workaround for the missing global track chords?  i.e. will Apple loops follow the chord progression in a track?

I found sort of a work around.  I still have Logic Pro 9.  It turns out that if you go into global tracks, analyze the chords then go back to logic pro x the chord progression is preserved.  So the information is preserved there just seems no way to create it in X.

  • What's the best way to trim a video file?

I have a big mov file (143 GB). I just need to trim a part of that file quickly. I tried to trim and save it as an mp4 but the quality turned out awful. I just trimmed and saved it as an mov but it's taking forever. Is there any quicker way I can do this?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Email isn't really designed for large file transfer and so most videos of a few minutes or more at an acceptable quality can't be sent.
Sign up for a free YouTube account and upload the video and set it as private. You can then invite people to watch the video.
If the person on the other end needs to be able to edit the video then I'd suggest snail mailing a CD/DVD.
If quality isn't an issue then you can use the Export options in Quicktime Pro to make the video file size small before you email it.

When I try to export from iMovie '11 I get repeated messages that the project is too big. Why? Is there a workaround? (I have already cut a 40-minute movie into three chunks... the first exported to iDVD ok, but the next one of 15 minutes balked for the same reason -- too long...)

    I wish I had a mac :-P
Sadly, this is Windows machine so I dont have a non-iOS version of iMovie.  I have 2 ideas left.  The first is xfering the project to my iPhone 4 and trying to export it there (if that works, awesome but geez apple the iPad 2 is way more powerful than the iphone 4.. youd think I wouldnt even have to attempt this).  The 2nd idea is to start at the end of my movie and delete clips and sounds backwards, trying to export each time to find whatever clip is causing the issue (when the movie was 5 minutes it mixed no probem, so I only need to go that far).
    Wish me luck?
Also, is anyone else besides me and the 5 dudes in the other threads having this issue??  Speak up, guys - Apple cant a fix a problem they dont know about.

  • Is there any workaround for exporting 24 bit AAF of OMF in soundtrack?

    Hi
Soundtrack pro seems to have only 16bit AAF export function. Is there any workaround to be able to export a multitrack session in higher bit (24bit industry standard) resolution, in AAF or OMF format?
I know Final Cut has 24bit AAF export funcion, but sending clips from soundtrack to Final Cut seems not possible. Only sending mastermixes to FC is possible. But I want to send individual clips to FC.
Or any other suggestions are welcome for solving this problem.

If Premiere offers you the option to use hardware encoding, then your card is recognized. There is normally nothing more to do.  If I understand you correctly, you are concerned that Premiere is not using the card.  There are 2 ways to check if it is:
    1. Install someting like GPU-Z (google it, it's free) to monitor the GPU. Start to encode something that will actually use CUDA cores, and you should see some activity reported, given as a percentage.  Keep in mind that CUDA is only used for some specific tasks (some effects, resizing) when encoding.
    2. Export a file that will use CUDA when encoding 2 times, once with hardware encoding enabled, and then with software only. Is there a difference in the time needed to complete the export?

  • Em bug - is there a workaround?

    Hi
I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 for Windows.
On the Insert + Text toolbar, there is an "I" button and an
    "em" button; but
*both* buttons insert <em> tags!! The only way I have
    found to insert <i>
tags is by working in the code window and typing the tags
    manually, which
rather defeats the object of using a wysiwyg editor. Is there
    any workaround
    for this bug?
The same applies to the so-called "b" button on the toolbar,
    which inserts a
    <strong> tag instead of a <b> tag.
The point being that <em> and <strong should only
    ever be used for emphasis,
    as they cause screen readers to change their tone of voice;
    they should
never be used for purely presentational purposes, so this bug
    is quite a
    serious one.
    Dave

Thanks Thierry, that's very helpful. You seem to be backing
    up and
reinforcing my statement that Adobe's default setting for
    Dreamweaver is a
very bad one, and that it encourages exactly the sort of bad
    practice that
has so far prevented screen reader manufacturers from
    supporting em and
    strong properly.
In the meantime, I've implemented Danilo's workaround, so
    that my site at
least can use those tags as they were intended to be used.

    |
    | But that's a problem with screen-readers (SR) vendors, not
    with the
    elements
    | per se.
    | As a side note, may be vendors chose not to "support"
    em/strong because
    they
    | found that too many documents on the web were using these
    elements poorly
    | (for the wrong reason). Imagine a SR user landing on a page
    where someone
    | has used both to "style" (in bold/italic) most of the text
    on his page
    | (there are still a lot of these out there).
    | May be that's also why support for Definition Lists is
    poor, because they
    | are (were) not very common in documents.
    |

    between text marked with <i>
    and
    | > with <em>? Because I can't.
    |
    | You're right, I was talking about HTML elements in general,
    not the 4 you
    | mention in this thread. But again, this "default styling"
    is a vendor's
    | choice and we could imagine that visual browsers would
    render these
    | differently (not the "i" and "b", but the "em" and
    "strong") depending on
    | "lang". As "we" associate emphasis with boldness and
    italic, but it may be
    | different in another "culture" (see Internationalization
    and
    localization).
    | In any case, if we write markup using the proper
    vocabulary/grammar we can
    | only hope that some UA will take advantage of it (I believe
    decent SEs do
    | that already).

  • No driver for Photosmart C6380 for Win RT -- is there a workaround?

Is HP developing a Win RT driver for this All-in-One printer?  I bought a Surface RT and I don't really understand how the operating system works, but I'd like to be able to automatically print documents I create on the tablet.  I also have a new HP Win 8 desktop and an old Win XP desktop on my network which can both print to the C6380 and run compatible software, so if there's a way to save my documents from the tablet into the print queue on one of these computers that could (possibly?) work.  I'd be happy to try any reputable third party solution that could make this functional, as well.
There must be some way to make this work, and I'd greatly appreciate it if somebody could help me figure out a workaround that I can use with my network until this printer is supported, if ever.
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
Let me preface this by saying I'm in no way a Windows RT expert.  But, I do know it is a topic that support content is being created for within HP.
Here is a document that I hope will help:
