greetings

I have never had a problem either editing in ProPhotoRGB 16 Bit Color  and printing from Photoshop> I have Photoshop manager the colors turn off the print drivers color management and set the correct print paper color profile.  The does not mean printing is done using 16 bit color I don't even know  if there are any 16 bit color printers or 16 bit color device  driver.  I have not looked at printer in years.  When I got my Epson 4800 printer in 2005 there were none.
I just did a quick google and now there are some. What I read is dated 2009 at  that time there are no 16 bit drivers for XP and Vista.  I don't know about Win 7 or Win 8.
Here is the first thing I read but its dataed 2009
Therefore, printing in 16–bit mode should result in smoother gradations and improved transitions – at least in theory. Indeed, according to Epson the new 16–bit driver technology is one of the key features of the 4880. To be able to do 16–bit printing, however, you have to have each of the following:
16–bit capable Operating System. Mac OS 10.5.X supports 16–bit printing: "Leopard can use enhanced numerical precision to unlock the printing potential of pro–level color ink jet printers, using up to 16 bits per color channel." (source). Note that both Windows XP and Windows Vista do NOT offer this feature.

I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Elements, I keep getting the message "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. I have tried reinstalling Camera Raw many times, and have tried to open many different raw files in Elements, and still get the same error message. Please help.

How did you try to install ACR 8.8.  The only way I know of that works with Elements is to use the Updates Choice on the Help menu.
There are two charts supplied by Adobe that explain your RAW dilemma.  This one tells you what your camera needs:  http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html   This one tells you what version of software you need:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
In your case, the Nikon D810 needs Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 or Lightroom 5.6.  (Congratulations on buying a new camera!)
To get to that level with Photoshop Elements, you will need to replace your Photoshop Elements 12 with version 13.   Adobe caps ACR updates on version 12 at 8.5.
The most convenient way to get around it without spending any money is to use the FREE from Adobe DNG Converter.  Download and install it from here for FREE:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5855&fileID=5890  Once it is installed you can convert your D810 raw files to an Adobe RAW version with the .DNG file extension that most, if not all, versions of the various Adobe software programs can use.  That includes old versions of Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom.  DNG converter can be used as the tool to move your files from your memory card to your computer, is efficient, will convert in batches and is completely lossless.  There is no risk of any image quality degradation or RAW functionality.

I'm having the same problem but I think it's because I need the version of RAW. The only upgrade info I can find is for CS5.  I have Elements and Lightroom 4.  How do I get the updated RAW version?
Lightroom has Camera Raw built in.  You can't upgrade it.  Just upgrade to the latest version of Lightroom.

  • Is there an upgrade to use raw photos from a D7200

just got a Nikon D7200 but the raw photos won't work is there an upgrade out for this camera yet

The only applications that currently support the D7200 NEFs are Nikon's.  You can convert the NEFs to TIFFs and process them in LR or use this suggestion: Re: LR 5.7 and Nikon D7200. unable to import NEF files.

  • CS6 crashes every time I open a RAW file as 16-bit

    Greetings all,
I'm feeling very frustrated and I hope you can help. Every time I open a RAW file in CS6 (at 16-bit depth) it crashes, so I am unable to open RAW files after editing in Camera Raw. The RAW files open OK in Camera Raw and I can edit them, but then opening them from Camera Raw into Photoshop (by clicking on Open Image) causes a crash.
Further background: I also had CS3 (the entire suite concurrently) installed. Thinking that might be a problem, I removed all of CS3 using the Adobe Uninstaller tool to see if that would help. Then I re-installed Photoshop CS6 from scratch and then downloaded and installed all updates.
No help at all. CS6 still crashes every time I open a RAW file if I open it as 16-bit. If I open a .DNG file directly from Photshop (without using Camera Raw), that crashes too. I'm opening them into Photoshop using Adobe RGB (1998), 16-bit, 3456 x 5184 (17.9 MP), 300DPI.
Thinking it might be a memory issue, I checked free RAM using Activity Monitor and I see it has 3.4 GB free with both CS6 and Bridge open, which should be plenty. However I do see by looking in the crash report from the system log (portion included below), that it appears the crash may have resulted from a failed MALLOC (memory allocation).
Here's the kicker: oddly, when I open the file up in Photoshop at 8-bit depth, it works fine. What the heck is going on?
    Please help!
    Thanks.

  • When I open a raw photo in photoshop I am getting a yellow exclamation point for a second. What does it mean?

When I open a photo in photoshop, in the upper right hand corner a yellow triangle with an exclamation point shows up.  Does anyone know what it means?

  • Can't open Camera RAW photos

I took some pictures with my Nikon D7100 in RAW format. Tried opening them in Photoshop. Error msg poped up stating it couldn't open them as they are not supported. The D7100 is listed as supported. How can I open them?

The D7100 is listed as supported.
You mention neither the Photoshop version nor the Camera Raw version you use so that statement seems unconfirmable so far.

  • Photo 6 RAW photos don't all open in PSE 6 RAW converter

I have iphoto 6 and PSE 6 installed on an Intel iMac OS X 10.4.11 with: 2GB RAM, 250GB HD and over half of that free.
Recently have begun shooting RAW. From iPhoto I have been editing everything in PSE6 without a problem. To open the RAW photos in the "RAW Converter" I have gone to iPhoto preferences, clicked on Advanced tab, and checked the box "Use RAW file with external editor".
My problem is this: Most of the RAW(NEF) photos in iphoto will open in the RAW converter as they are designed to do when I double click on the thumb nails in iPhoto. However, about 25% of them will not go to the converter. They go, instead, to the regular PSE6 editing window as a JPEG, and nothing I can do will get that photo into the RAW converter. And these are photos from the same series just uploaded to iPhoto6. It makes no sense to me.
What am I missing and what can I do to correct this problem. I would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks.
    David

    TD
I'm feeling just a little sheepish right now.
It was your statement that it was either a) I'm imagining it or b) it's a very rare problem. I knew it wasn't (a) and I suspected (b) was probably not it either because too often when something is very rare, there is something simple hidden in the problem.
So I did some serious reviewing of the problem. I tried to think of anything I had done to those 3 photos that kept them from opening in RAW converter, when all others did fine. It suddenly occurred to me that I had cropped those three, and would have done it in iPhoto before going to RAW converter. I "Reverted to Original" all three photos, after which I was able to open all of them in RAW Converter without a problem.
So, MANY thanks, TD, for leading me to the solution. And you also taught me some new techniques. Every little bit helps.

  • Opening RAW photos in PSE 8

I have recently bought PSE 8. When I had my Canon 350D I could use it to edit RAW photos. I have just bought a Canon 550D and PSE 8 cant open any RAW photos now for editing.

I went to the Adobe site and from new downloads found the Camera
Raw 5.7 update for windows. Here is link
    to the pdf instructions

I created a new folder on desktop and moved the current Camera Raw.8bi file to that folder. then copied the new file in its place. opened elements and bingo it worked perfect.

  • ?unable to open raw photo file after downloading camera raw 7.4 update?

    Can anyone help please.
I recently had my lap top wiped and have had to re load CS6.  I have also downloaded the camera raw 7.4 update (I use a Nikon D7100 camera) The update downloads without any problems, I go through download, install and then finish, but I still am unable to open my raw photos.  I get the following message...   'if you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest raw camera update installed'.  I have no idea why it is doing this, or how to combat it.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
    Gail

    Hi Benjamin,
You were right. It was the camera's provided software transfer system. I've copied them directly from the (same) card to the desktop and works.
    Many many thanks! Cheers

  • RAW photo into Photshop CS5 as a Smart Object.

I am trying to open a RAW photo in Photohsop CS5 as a Smart Object.  I have the photo selected in Bridge.  When I go to execute File>Place in Bridge CS5 the menu entry indicates there should be a menu displayed.  However, clicking on Place does not bring up a menu.
In Photoshop there is open a blank file to receive the photo.
Why do I not receive a menu?

Are you not seeing all the buttons?
Normally I have ACR set to "Open Image" in Photoshop. By temporarily holding down the SHIFT key the "Open Image" button will change to "Open Object"
This is what I did while creating this screenshot. There is also the tool tip showing up in the screenshot.

  • Lightroom 1.3.1 raw photos

Is there a way to let lightroom open Camera raw photos only like it is in Raw Therapee? I don't what to see jpeg in the filmstrip.

There are other threads here which say the 5.0.2 update caused it, and that going back to 5.0.1 fixes the issue.  See "More like this" over there on the right ==>
I'd suggest submitting Aperture feedback to ensure Apple is aware of it; I think others here have done the same but I'm not 100% positive.

  • How can I set ACR 5.2 to open RAW files as 16 Bit and not 8?

Whenever I open RAW files in ACR 5.2 they open as 8 bit. I change the bit depth to 16 and work on a file... but when I open my next RAW file it's back to 8.
Is there any way to set ACR so that it always opens my RAW files as 16 Bit.. and saves other settings as well?

Bennett, when you open a raw file in Camera Raw and finish working on it the choices to click on are Open Image, Cancel, and Done. Which one are you clicking on to close the image in ACR? Cancel will do just that. Cancel the changes and the 16/8 bit setting will not be kept. The other two choices (Open Image and Done) will maintain the changes you made and the 16/8 bit setting and the color space should stick for the next image.

  • Photoshop CS4 will not open newer RAW format

I have CS4 with latest updates, Camera Raw 5.7  and my CR2 images will not open.  I have a Canon EOS Rebel T3i.
I have searched for over 2 hours looking for a solution and according to what I have read I should have what I need to open these files.
When I go into Adobe Exchange to find a possible program, it takes me to a page that wants me to download the Adobe Exchange Panel. However
this is only available to CC or CS6, neither of them I have. I can't get past this page.  So I guess Exchange no long exists for those of us with older programs.
I really hardly ever use this program, but since I need it to open my RAW photos.
I can't afford to upgrade this program at this time and I find it odd they cut off the Exchange area for everything else.
If someone could help me figure out how to get my photos to open in this program without having to buy yet another program that would be wonderful.
I do not use this enough to justify the cost of the upgrade.   What is missing that I need?  The compaitable chart says I have the correct version for my camera.  I am at a loss.
I am sure somewhere someone has asked this before, but for the life of me I can't find one that is based on my criteria, that will help me with my problem.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
    My System specs:
    Intel Core2 Quad Q9400  2.66GHZ
    4GB Memory
GeForce GTX 460 Video 1GB Dedicaed Memory
    64Bit Windows 7

The Canon T3i was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 6.4
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
ACR 6.4 is only compatible with CS5 and later. It is not compatible with CS4 so CS4 cannot open Raw T3i files..
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
To open Raw files in Photoshop, your options are to update to CS6 or the Cloud.
The other option is to use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert all Raw files from the T3i to DNGs. That adds an extra step to your workflow every time you shoot photos. Then open and edit the DNGs in CS4.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bqGovpuihw
If you hardly touch Photoshop, another option may be to buy Photoshop Elements 12. Then you can open and edit Raw files from the T3i but you'll have the more limited Elements toolset. You could then export to TIFF and open the TIFFs in CS4 if necessary.
