Is there an alternative to DeskCut - creating desktop shortcuts.

Hi.
I have been using DeskCut to right click IN FF and send a URL Shortcut to my Desktop.
Problem is that it does not copy the icon and uses a default "Mozilla" logo.
Has this add-on been updated or is there an alternative that can make me happy?
I know that FF itself can do this, but I have to resize the browser so I can move the shortcut to the desktop which is very inconvenient. Think that IE has the edge on this one!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks and cheers! :)

Hi Gingerbread Man,
Yes, I know about that trick with the titlebar.
Bug 110894 has does not appear to have been addressed in ages.
Is there any of of escalating it?
BTW - I don't think that DeskCut is being supported any longer.
Cheers!

  • Office 2013 - Creating desktop shortcuts using OCT

I need to create desktop shortcuts using the Office Customization Tool. But how does one do this when they have both 32 and 64 bit machines in the environment? The "Start In" path below is obviously going to be different when dealing with
    32 and 64 bit OS machines (c:\program files vs c:\program files(x86))
I'm following these directions but they look to be specific to a 64 bit machine: http://mystang69.blogspot.com/2013/08/office-customisation-tool-2013-adding.html

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179097.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396#Configure_shortcuts
    Start in
Enter a path to specify the default starting folder for the application. If you leave this box blank, the default folder is set to the folder where the destination file resides. If the path is not valid on a user's
computer, the user sees an error message when the user tries to use the shortcut.
Do you need to set a start in location?

  • New create desktop shortcut GPO is causing 1030 and 1058 errors on a Windows 2003 terminal server

Primary DC: Win2012.  BDC: Win2008. Clients: Win7, Win8.1.  Maintaining an old Win2003 terminal server to run legacy software.
Everything works fine for a look time until I added a new GPO to create a desktop shortcut on the client machines, Windows 2003 runs into Error 1030 (Cannot query list of GPO) and Error 1058 (Cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO, The system cannot find
the path specified) GP processing aborted).
Tried changing the GPO to target Win7 and 8.1 only.  Tried creating shortcut using Computer Config settings only as well as User Config settings only.  Deleting the GPO and creating it from scratch.  Nothing works, as soon as GPO is in place,
it disables the Win2003 from processing any other GPO.
No issue with the client machines or other Windows servers.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Roget,
    Thanks for posting here.
Error 1030 and 1058 could be caused by many aspects.
Firstly, please run the command dcdiag on the command prompt of a DC to check if there are any error.
Secondly, make sure the DFS service is started on the domain controller, and set the Startup type to automatic.
What's more, make sure the TCP/IP Helper service  is started on the domain co, set it to Automatic and started it.

  • Creating desktop shortcuts

I want to create a shortcut on my desktop that takes me to the Documents folder. Is there any way for me to do this?

    Alias, path statements and ...
    1 - Alias
Make an alias of the documents folder (right click on it > choose make an alias > drag the alias to where you want it to go
    2 - path statements #1
If you have opted to view path statements in Finder (they appear at foot of the window) these can be hovered over > clicked on
    3 - path statements #2
At the top of a Finder window there may be an icon associated with the folder that is being displayed > click on it to see a vertical listing of path objects > these can be clicked on
    4 - Spotlight
Start Spotlight (mouse click or Cmd + Spacebar) type doc
It might take a while for Spotlight to recognise that it is Documents folder that should be first hit
5 - open any folder > Documents folder should appear in window in left-hand column
    6 - (any more...)?

  • Giving W7 Users Ability to Create Desktop Shortcuts etc.

Hi, my employers (UK NHS Trust) are finally rolling out W7 on clients to replace XP.
So I asked ourIT to uprage my laptop OS, which the did.  However on first use I found none of my keyboard shortcust where working and I was unable to create new one :-)
SO I asked them to reapply my existing privileges to my new OS.  They said they couldn't because of IG issues and I had to submit a business case form to our Information Governance team <sigh>
Question: can a W7 end user be granted the ability to created keyboard shortcuts without having to grant s/he (me) full PC admin rights?
    THanks
    Trevor

    Hi,
Is that user a local user? Based on my experience, you need to create a group policy MSC file for that user and apply Local Group Policies to that specific user. More detailed information, please refer to the link below:
Windows 7: Group Policy - Apply to a Specific User or Group (Note: Microsoft is providing this information as a convenience to you. Please make
sure that you completely understand the risk before retrieving any suggestions from the above link.)
After that, open this MSC file, expand User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and Windows Explorer. In the right pane, double-click on "Turn off Windows + X hotkeys" to edit it, and then select Disabled, click OK and then restart
    the computer to apply.
In addition, since it is related to Windows 7, I also recommend you to ask in the forum below for further assistance:

  • Create a desktop shortcut to a website without a mouse?

    Hi.
i have low vision, so i am searching for an easy way to copy an URL into an internet shortcut to the desctop/or any other folder, without the mouse.
Hopefully something that can make it possible for me to press some hotkeys in firefox, and then go to a location and press ctrl+v and an internet shortcut will be pasted there.
as a reference something like what is described in this linkk, but without the mouse
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website#firefox:win7:fx35
    hope somebody have a solution
    thanx.

There were already some suggestions to create a short cut, so I left out suggestions.
You would first have to copy the link to the clipboard.
If the link is in the location/address bar then this is easy (Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C).
For a link on the website this can be more difficult and you would have to use the Tab key to set focus to the link and press the button to open the right-click context menu to copy the link that way to the clipboard.
Once the link is on the clipboard it shouldn't be difficult to create a desktop shortcut.
You may have to make a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut if you can't create an internet shortcut and add the link to its target field in the properties.

  • Create a desktop shortcut to a website

The advice re this given at
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Creating+a+desktop+shortcut+to+a+web+page
works on my HP laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.
The same advice DOES NOT WORK on my generic desktop running Windows 7 Professional.
What do I need to do to get it to work with Windows 7 Professional?
    Does the support page
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Creating+a+desktop+shortcut+to+a+web+page
need to be modified to address different OS's?
    Thank you.

What happens on your Windows 7 system? Do you get an error message? Mouse pointer indicating it's a no-go? Just nothing happens?
The feature should work exactly the same way, but with the changed security model, perhaps there are some special issues.

  • Creating desktop shorcut and start menu entry using java

    Hey Guys
I have a requirement in which i will need to install a desktop application .After installing i will need to created desktop shortcut icon and start menu entries.
I have worked very less with desktop application and hence i need some help in figuring out how to achieve this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chetan

    George ,
Thanks for ur reply .Just to give you some background on this one.
We were using Java web start to do the installation and it used to take care of creating the shortcut icon and start menu entries.
The problem is that we have decided to move away from java web start and use the exe approach of installing .We wrap our JAR files in an exe and make use of Launch4j. See - launch4j.sourceforge.net/ .
The launch4j software helps in bundling all our JARs into an exe and when the exe is clicked it invokes a class present in our JAR file .However it does not create any icons because of which we will need to do that manually.
    Any ideas on this?
    Thanks
    Chetan

  • How do I prevent creative cloud from installing a desktop shortcut?

I have absolutely no need for a desktop shortcut to cc, since I have it running in the taskbar whenever I start my computer. What's worse is that I have to type in admin username and password to be able to delete these icons from my work computer. It's a pain that this thing that I don't want keeps popping up with every update. My desktop is already cluttered, it doesn't need Adobe's help making it worse.
Any way to stop Adobe from adding a desktop shortcut to CC?
    Thanks!!

There is no option to uncheck "Create Desktop Shortcut" as in other installers as far as I know.

  • How can I disallow desktop shortcut during a silent installation of Firefox 3.6.10?

I am preparing a silent deployment of the latest version of FF to a estate of XP Sp3 desktops via Altiris. I need to ensure that the installation does not create desktop shortcuts.
I use a vbscript instalation wrapper to call the installation and log events, so I need a command line argument to prevent the desktop shortcut installation. Can you help please?

Unpack the installer with an archiver (like WinRAR). Create file anyname.ini with the content:
    '''[Install]'''
    '''DesktopShortcut=false'''
The command you need to run is
    '''setup.exe /INI=anyname.ini'''
See [https://wiki.mozilla.org/Installer:Command_Line_Arguments this] for more options.

    Hi Damiao
We had the same problem, trying to look at the environment at any one of our

Forte logged this as a bug in that it is difficult to get ftcmd to read the -fns

    Hi,
maybe you should try something like the following as you are using your
launch server to connect to one environment or the other:
    set FORTE_FTLAUNCH_FLAGS=-fns myServer:5000
    C:\forte\install\bin\ftcmd.exe run EnvironmentConsole
Hope this helps a little more
