Is there an alternative to Rosetta for Running old applications?

Our company has a Canon C3220 Colour Copier and a ColorPass Z3000 RIP with about 30 Macs printing to it. The installer for the Z3000 driver is an old Power PC application that no longer runs in OS 10.7. Is there an alternative to Rosetta for running the installer? Or does anyone know how to manually install the components by copying them over from a Mac running Snow Leopard? I've tried moving over the driver and PPD from the latter and placing them in the same locations in the Library folder on the former, but then get an error when I try to create a printer in System Prefs.
I know the driver/PPD still works, as they work in Lion on Macs that have been upgraded from Snow Leopard after the driver was installed. I've looked around on the web and asked Canon about an upgraded installer, but they don't support this model anymore, even though it's not that old and was a VERY expensive setup to buy.

Not really. You can downgrade back to Snow Leopard, but only if you have a model that supports Snow Leopard.
Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

I would like to run a stock analysis program called Toolkit 6 on my Macbook Pro, but it only works on the Windows platform.  Is there software that allows me to run Windows applications on the Mac?

Yes it's MS Windows! You will need a license of MS Windows (preferable Windows 7) and from there you can decide on the strategy for running Windows on your iMac. You can use Boot Camp (you already have this) or you use virtualization software such as Parallels or Fusion. For your situation I'd recommend virtualization software. However for only one program I'd do some due diligence to see if there is a OS X version. You can start with the App store or simply use Google to search.

  • Simple way for run an application on a pc without OS (window,linux,...)?

i need a simple pdf for a way for run an application  on a pc without OS (window,linux,...).

Take a look here, and also note the related links i the bottom http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/2733
Then you are using Labview RT on a PC, a real time OS will be installed in the process. The OS is the PharLap, Real-Time OS . So you will indeed be using a OS
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • TS1363 Is there any alternative to iTunes for copying music onto an iPod? I am sick to the back teeth of Apple and I am really getting annoyed at having to uninstall and reinstall iTunes every few weeks.

I have iTunes on 2 PCs, one running Windows 7 pro, the other running Windows 8. I also have 2 iPods which show up in Windows but not iTunes. Every time this happens I have to delete and download iTunes again, losing my library (nearly 10,000 tracks) in the process. I have had enough of Apple and their crap software as this problem has happened to me on previous computers as well and I think iTunes is crap. Is there some alternative I can use instead of iTunes to put music on my iPods?

If you have an iPod touch you could probably use DropBox.

  • Is there an alternative to flash for ipad?

I am so disapointed to find out that ipad does not support flash player...now, I cannot even access some of my favorite sites, it is beyond annoying ! Is there an alternative? Obviously, Apple does not like Flash Player but do they offer an alternative for their users ?? I wish I had known that before, I would not have bothered spending so much money on something that does not even meet my needs !

  • Can I partition a soon to be received iMac 27" 3.4 Ghz i7 Quad core running Lion and install Snow Leopard to run old applications

I am about to get a 27" iMac 3.4 Ghz i7 Quad Core with Lion installed.
I want to run one or two old applications that will not run under Lion.
Is it possible to partition the iMac to run Snow Lepoard from there when I need it ?

I have tried to partition  my Macbook Air (running Lion) using Bootcamp but all it will let me do is install Windows (which I do nor want to do.) Otherwise it will not partition the HD.
It gives three options. 1. Create a Windows 7 install disc. 2. Download the Windows support software.  3. Install Windows 7.
For interest I ran Bootcamp on my iMac (running Snow Leopard) and that would allow me just to partition the drive
(with no need to install Windows) by checking "I have the Mac OS X installation diec... or I have the support software.." (which I don't) and then goes to the partitioning page.
If you can put me wise I wouldbe grateful.
    Cheers
    Roger.

  • Is there any alternatives to Configurator for creating custom Photoshop panels?

I've been using Configurator for quite some time now in order to improve my workflow; having custom panels is huge to me.
So I was surprised that Adobe decided to stop supporting flash panels, starting with version CC 2014. I want to update Photoshop to CC 2014 but am unable to do so due to my custom panels (which DOES NOT work in said version!!): I would be handicapping myself by upgrading the software.
I've looked around for alternatives, but so far I haven't found any decent replacement to Configurator for creating HTML5-based panels. I know about PsTools but it appears to be limited to Tools only, and I need to both create a custom toolbar as well as custom panels for my most used filters and selection -actions. Also I know there's an API for creating HTML5 panels now, but I'm a 3D Artist - not a C++ programmer.
So what exactly are the alternative here?

  • Is there any alternative vst plugins for adobe audition similar to Vocalign or how to install vocalign?

I'm pretty sure it works for it but i can't get it to load when i install it in a folder and update my plugins through adobe audition. Anyone know how? or anyone know an alternative to that plugin, a plugin that aligns two takes of a the same vocal to make the timing correct?
I know some exist but i can never get one to work perfect with adobe audition.

There's a perfectly good solution built into Audition CS6 and CC - you don't need a plugin at all.
In Multitrack, go to Clip, and you'll find a menu item called Automatic Speech Aligner. It's meant to work with speech only (as they all are) but in fact it works pretty well with sung vocals. I'd give that a go first before looking for any other solution.

  • Is there an alternative to flash for videos?

Is there a program available to substitute for flash in running videos?

In the meantime, no. No substitute.

  • Is there an alternative html script for embedded forms?

I recently read the guidelines on embeding forms on a site:
    http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1991
Previously we were using iFrame but the trouble-shooting guide suggested to use the code generated from the distribute tab. However, I noticed it used the scipt html tag which is prohibited on the site I'm using to display the form. What other alternatives are there to overcome this issue to enable to have the form correctly displaying on the site?

Sorry this change has caused you issues. We’ve had a lot of people embedding forms improperly. When it’s done without the embed code the form often doesn’t work properly (its cropped on the side/bottom, submit doesn’t work, etc). Because of that, we now catch the improperly embedded form and tell people the right way to embed it.
I’m talking with my engineering team to see if there is anything we can do.

  • Is there an alternative to flash for animation?

I have a flash sequence on a clients website but it is not friendly with the menu as it overlaps. It is also unfriendly on ipods, ipads and the like.
We need to retain the animation sequence and wonder if it could be converted into another format which would be friendly across other formats and to my menu
Thank you in advance for feedback
    Terry

Depending on what the animation consists of and your target audience, Edge Animate might very work well.  However, Edge animations output to HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.  Older browsers like IE8 and earlier won't see it.   If that's your target audience, drop your images into a jQuery image Slider.
    jQuery WOW Slider

    jQuery Nivo Slider

    Or use an animated GIF.

Other options include Puffin and iSwifter. One of those might also work for you, though all such apps, including Skyfire, have limitations
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Communities page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums and in the Apple Knowledge Base, before you post a question.
