Is there an alternative to use of NFS in SAP Installations

Hello All,
My customer is very concerned about the use of NFS in his landscape. I am planning a build of a new application server on a seperate UNIX box as the existing box has maxed out (capacity wise).
The new dialog application server would need to share interface directories , sapmnt etc , however the IT Security policy at our customer end prohibits NFS mounts
Now that application server could run with its own set of profiles and kernel directories , however sharing the interface directory should be mandatory.
I am wondering if there is any alternative to this ?

I had suggested the same, however we are on AIX 5.2 and NFSv4 i think needs AIX 5.3, so to have NFSv4 we would need to go for AIX 5.3 which is essentially an upgrade of the OS.
Windows front ends cannot be shared as per company policy..

Not neccessary, we can still have transports working, SAP would use RFCs to copy over data.
Currently we do not have any transport directories shared.

Anyways the project is stalled for the moment and I have forced them to have a waiver for the policy as an exception

Since Adobe can't get their heads out of their @ss and fix all of the problems they created with the "Cloud", I have to find a way to avoid their headaches. This is our best solution at the moment... My company currently has 10 - CS6 users and one cloud license. When the cloud actually works, we are able to down-save to CS6 so everyone can use the files. We don't actually work in the cloud because it is so unpredictable and unreliable. We just use it to convert files to CS6. I think Adobe will continue to lose customers because of this "cloud" thing.
Now, if anyone has another alternative software to Photoshop and Illustrator, I would consider dropping Adobe all together. Any suggestions?

we are working with two ERP-systems. One of them is SAP, but we use the SAP financial accounting for both ERP-systems.
To insert the invoices from the other ERP-system, we create every day a ASCII-file with the foreign invoices in the following format:

In SAP we have created the structure ZBSEG. This is a subset of fields from BSEG. To import the foreign invoices from the other ERP-system into SAP, we use the transaction OBG4.
OBG4 reads in the ASCII-file from above and creates a batch-input which uses FB01 to create the SAP invoices.
This approach works for years, but it is a tedious and boring work, because we must do the OBG4 step every day by hand. After that, we must launch the newly created batch input manually.
We want to automate this import, and we are still searching for an alternative.
There is one big advantage of OBG4 and ZBSEG: It's a standardized interface for the SAP financial accounting, and it works really good.
We have considered to write a new ABAP-program with our own batch input which uses FB01. In a daily job this ABAP-program could run automatically. But I think, this approach is error-prone. It would not be a standardized SAP-interface, and it would be difficult to write a new FB01-batch-input-routine that works correct in all cases.
Is there another standardized interface for the SAP financial accounting which we can use programmatically?
Does exist a SE37-function module for this problem?

In one job, you have two steps. The first one runs RFBIBL00; the second step runs standard SAP program RSBDCSUB to process the batch input sessions.
Both programs are documented and have been discussed many times before in the forum.

Samba Administration - seems to be no details ie. users, workgroup name etc?

I'm gonna attempt this with a couple of scripts - (one added to login script
& the other at shutdown)
to copy Desktop & Favorites - already told users they will be shot if the
they put files in my docs!
(It would be nice to do Desktop Colour / Image etc so the user feels at home

Is There An Alternative To Thunar & GVFS

Hi All
Upto the latest version of Thunar i was using this as my File Manager, but since i updated i now need to use gvfs etc ... Is there an alternative to using thunar, where i can still have wastebasket and automounting etc ? I tried using something yesterday, and i have no idea what happened, but it deleted half of my /home folder so i have had to do a clean install today

automounting doesn't have to depend on the file-manager. A simple udev rule or using udiskie should solve that.I have never had desktop icons so I wouldn't know about getting a Trash icon, but iDesk and PcmanFM do manage desktop icons. (although I am not sure if the new pcmanfm uses gvfs or not)

Welcome to the discussions! You can use Time Machine and I would also recommend for you to manually copy your iPhoto Library (on your Pictures folder) to an external drive/thumb drive so you can restore it from there should you loose your TM backup. Exporting them from iPhoto would not preserve the libraries' integrity neither your originals, should you choose to edit them in iPhoto.

There is no replacement program that will directly read Appleworks database files.
You have two options:
1. Continue to use Appleworks 6.2.9, which requires Rosetta installed in Snow Leopard, or the access to Rosetta by installing Snow Leopard Server in virtualization for use in Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks:

Depending on what you're trying to access, there may be alternatives. Many sites, such as YouTube, have dedicated apps. You might also try browsers such as SkyFire, Swiffer and Puffin. They render the video on their servers. Depending on the site, they may or may not work for you.

Alternative to using dynamic variable / NOW () in Content FILTER

Could someone suggest an alternative to using NOW () in the WHERE clause of LTS? Using ExpirationDate>NOW() works, but unfortunately, this request can't be cached (because reports using dynamic statements using NOW () and TODATE () don't get cached).
I've identified a possible solution - creating a variable that would use first day of current month with this Initialization block:
SELECT LAST_DAY (ADD_MONTHS (CAST(SUBSTR(SYSDATE,1,10) AS DATE), -1))+1 FROM TIMEDIM_TABLE WHERE CAST(SUBSTR(SYSDATE,1,10) AS DATE)=CALENDAR_DATEAs a result the variable is showing: TIMESTAMP '2009-05-01 00:00:00' in Default Initializer field. This seems to be working - I'm just not sure why not all he reports get cached.
My question is - is this valid way for this and is there a better way to accomplish this?

Is there a way to get idvd on a new macbook? or is there an alternative that works?

I note that my new macbook pro (purchased with a dvd burner specifically) no longer comes with iDVD preloaded. Is there a way to get this, or is there an alternative that works. have checked the app store only to see a number of 'alternatives' that are crucified by the feedback, largely not compatible with mountain lion, etc. This was really dissapointing, to get a new apple computer, still with imovie (great), but without the ability to create a dvd to share movies with friends and family...any ideas?

There is no good replacement app for iDVD when it comes to ease of use, flexibilithy and professional looking results.
You'll have to purchase an iLife disc and should be aware that the iLife 11 disc only provides iDVD 5-7 themes. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

Just upgraded my 2009 iMac (3.06 Ghz, core 2 duo $GB 1067 Mhz DDR3) to Mavericks OSX 10.9.5 and my HP6100 printer no longer works, when I try to reload the software it says PowerPC apps no longer supported. Printer says the software was improperly installed. Is there a way to use my HP6100 Printer with Mavericks or do I need to go back to Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard?

It's not clear whether your printer is included in the Apple list - there is an Officejet 6100 and a couple of other types. Go to the page linked to above and use the browser search for 6100.
I'm afraid HP are notorious for not supporting older printers - I had the same problem. Probably they hope you will buy another printer (I did, but it was a Canon). I did look on HP's site and couldn't see a driver - you could give it a try (make sure you have the exactly correct printer name):

I found it would indeed drive the printer, but the colour dithering wasn't very satisfactory and the duplex printing bolt-on wouldn't work. However as Gutenprint is free it's worth trying to see if it's any good for you.

Is there an alternative to prevent access to a standard transaction when a user has the S_TCODE value already? A custom program was created through batch input recording and there are transaction calls made to the standard transaction. I had to give the S_TCODE value for the program to run for the user, but one requirement was to force the user to use the custom t-code and not use the standard one. Unfortunately, I have provided the user access to the standard t-code as demanded by the program. Is there a way around this? I assume this has to be manipulated in the program.

If no further intervention is needed, then you can execute the processing as a batch job with the SYSTEM type jobsstep user?
If the dialog user is processing the session in SM35 themselves or the job is executed in their name, then must also have been able to process the data manually.
In the stead of Batch Input, you should also consider redesigning the process to call a BAPI locally or via a group to process the data. This way they typically need the application authorizations but do not need an entry point to them such as S_TCODE or S_RFC.
Or reconsider the transaction code used in the Batch Input call?
Or reconsider the person (job function) who executes this processing?
Or give the originator of the data a webservice to process the data real time?
Lots of options...

Well, it's probably one of two things: either the awesome dude(tte) who developed this awesome extension was tired of updating or the changes in FFox software architecture carried out between version 3.x and 4+ created challenges that were too difficult for him to surmount or a combination of both. Honestly, I love Mozilla but I think they dropped the ball on the throttle issue. It's such an obvious and necessary function and it's so easy to implement. They should have included it a long time ago as in built feature. And, if you are browsing and looking at this post and you agree. Add a suggestion in mozilla.org. The more of us asking for this function, the better.
Meanwhile, I have the following solution for you:

If you have Bookmarks you want to port to the portable (bad pun intend), backup them up to bookmarks.json file on your desktop and import them to the portable version. You can export/import more stuff using FEBE addon but that's a whole world of headaches if you don't your doing.
Many of your extensions favourites extensions will no longer work on FFox 3.6.x but if, in that same addon's page, you look around until you find a link to previous versions of the addon, you will notice that the compatibility info is right below the version numbers.
