Is there an Apple Hardware Test for PowerPC G5?

Is there an Apple Hardware Test for PowerPC G5? Is it on disc, downloadable from Apple?

You can call Apple support to find out if they still have original OS X disks available for your system. Apple has been letting the disk inventory run out, so they may or may not still have them. Last I recall they were charging around $60 for the set.
If the disks are not available, TechTool Pro would be the commercially available hardware test tool that is available: http://www.micromat.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=104

  • How can i get or download the apple hardware test for a macbook pro made in 2012 running Mavericks 10.9.3

Does anyone know how can i get or download the apple hardware test for a macbook pro made in 2012 running Mavericks 10.9.3. Thanks.

    Sean and Andy -
I have to agree with Andy here. I am having the same problem on a mid 2010 MBP (6,2). I have already read the AHT info provided by Sean's link, and they are less than helpful. I'm sure they will be helpful to those who find that they work, but they are confusing if this is not the case. For example, my MBP(6,2) came with ONE (not two) installation disks, so the instructions don't work for me. Another issue is the instructions confound the descriptions related to the MBP, the original (delivered) software (OS X version), and the current installed OS X upgrade software.
So here's what does NOT work for me...
         (A) I cannot install 'Disk 2', since I never received this with my original (new) purchase in mid 2010.
         (B) I have checked my firmware versions and they are all up to date, as per Apple's information.
         (C) As suggested in another thread, I looked for /Library/Core Services/.diagnostics and it was NOT present. I followed his instructions, downloaded the correct (I believe) dmg, and installed it. It is in the correct place, and I can see all the invisible files using Pathfinder.
         (D) When I re-start holding down the D key (immediately), it just goes through the normal boot routine; no evidence of AHT.
(E.1) When I re-start holding down OPT-D, I get a spinning globe, and then it prompts me for a network (wi-fi) connection.
(E.2) For some unknown reason, the prompt identifies between 2 and 5 of my --neighbors'--  routers, but does not show mine. (??!!)
(E.3) The routers are listed alphabetically; however, my router SHOULD be at the top of the list by this criterion, but it is nowhere to be seen.
(E.4) The 'internet recovery' process then allows me to enter a network name AND password. I do this, for my current wi-fi router, and the process rejects it as an incorrect login ID. It is NOT an incorrect login ID!
So, now asking Sean and Andy (or anyone else) for further suggestions... ???  As Andy suggested, many people ask questions here because they have -already- worked through the 'official' recommendations, and have found them to be inadequate.
Any advice would be appreciated!  TIA.
    Ed

  • Apple Hardware Test for G5 1.6 GHz

I bought my Power Mac G5/1.6 GHz used a few weeks ago and since I'm not the original owner I didn't get any disks with it. At first I didn't think that was a problem since I have a "family pack" of OSX 10.4 Tiger, iWork, iLife etc.
My problem is that I've not been able to find a CD/DVD with the proper Apple Hardware Test for the G5.
Anyone know how I can get one, or maybe some kind soul can make a copy of theirs for me?
I think I may have a problem with the ethernet on this machine and I've got no way to run the Apple Hardware Test since I don't have the right version for the G5.
    Thanks,
    John

Thanks for the quick reply DaddyPaycheck.
I have looked all over the various Apple sites and I've not been able to find exactly where, how and who I should contact at Apple.
Should this be a phone call or an email message and to what department?
I don't mind paying for it, I just have not had any luck figuring out who and where at Apple I should be contacting.
Yes, I couldn't agree with you more regarding the original disks being sold along with the Macs.
As I said I didn't think about it since I've got all the other stuff but I completely forgot about the AHT being a model specific disk that's hard to find.
I've got the guy I bought this G5 from trying to track down a disk with the right AHT for me. He got this and several other G5's from a woman and he's got her looking as well.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Apple hardware test for snow leopard

I've tried booting from the snow leopard installation disk i have, i've tried holding down both D and Command+D, and neither of these key combinations work. My macbook will just boot like normal. And it's not an optical drive issue because i can hold C and get disk utility. So is the AHT even on this disk?
Is there another way of testing the hardware or some kind of freeware i can get?

If your Mac came with DVDs, Apple Hardware Test comes in one of these DVDs. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 Insert the DVD that contains Apple Hardware Test, and hold the D key while your MacBook is starting. Make sure your Mac is plugged in and run an extended test.
Apple Hardware Test is not included in the retail Mac OS X Snow Leopard disc because there are different versions for each computer

  • Apple Hardware Test for MDD G4

While the Apple Hardware Test download page (http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html) doesn't have links to them, I have found that there are downloads on apple.com for versions 1.2.7 and 2.0.1 of AHT. These are for the G4 MDD FW 400 and 800 models, respectively.
    AHT 1.2.7:
    http://download.info.apple.com/AppleHardwareTest/693-4821-A.dmg
    AHT 2.0.1
    http://download.info.apple.com/AppleHardwareTest/693-4817-A.dmg
I don't know if AHT 1.2.7 is intended for the 2003 MDD as well (since it's similar to the earlier FW 400 MDD), since Mactracker states that version 2.0.2 shipped with that model. From what I gather, for the 2003 MDD there was not a separate AHT disc but was rather the test was included on the 2 software install discs - but I don't have the discs myself to confirm.

for the 2003 MDD there was not a separate AHT disc but was rather the test was included on the 2 software install discs
You are correct. AHT v2.0.2 is on my restore disc. for a 1.25GHz SP MDD.

  • How to obtain apple hardware test for MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009), how to obtain apple hardware test for MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009)

I no longer have the software disk (OS10.5) that came with my MBP in July 2009.  I only have the $10 Snow Leopard disk from Apple, which does NOT seem to contain any Apple Hardware Test (AHT).  I have tried starting while holding d or option keys to no avail.  Does neither my laptop nor OS 10.6 install disk have AHT?  If not, can the appropriate AHT be obtained?  My wife has an older MacBook & her original 10.5 install disk, but it will not launch AHT in my MBP.  Any suggestions?
    Thanx

I like the advice to contact Apple and simplky pay for a new AHT.  I did that, giving them the serial number of my MBP and indicating it was a June 2009 model, 2.66 gHz Core 2.  However .....
I received yet another Apple FedEx shipmet with yet another different Mac OS X Leopard install DVD; this makes three in all!! Just as with the 1st DVD, these two will NOT mount on my desktop, are NOT seen by Disk Utility (or by Drive Genius) and cannot boot my MBP laptop in either of 4 different modes: (1) start-up with "d" (2) start-up with "option d" (3) start-up with "option" (4) start-up with "c".  Apparently none of the disks I received have Apple Hardware Test on them, although that is what I paid for in early December.  It may be that the last two disks really do have Mac OS X Leopard on them, but because I am now running OS 10.7.5 (purchased from App store with no AHT), the disks cannot be seen by my laptop.
The two most recent incorrect DVDs I received have the following part numbers:
                        SRF2Z691-6037-A [indicated on packing slip 10.5 Retail-International]
SRF2Z679-6341-A (indicated on packing slip 10.5.6 Retail (PCrly 09) In]
I happen to have MacTracker app 7.2.1.  It indicates that my laptop is a MacBookPro 5,3 model A1286 EMC2325 and requires Apple Hardware Test 3A171.  Apple never sent me the correct AHT.
I suspect that Apple's cost to ship 3 incorrect DVDs by 1- or 2-day FedEx vastly exceeds the $17.44 price I paid for a working version of AHT for my computer, but have yet to receive.

  • Apple Hardware Test for iMac

I recently ran the Apple Hardware Tests. The extended test showed the following code: 4M0T/40000004: HDD - 1332. Does anyone know what this code means?

It means there is a fan issue (4MOT) on the hard drive (HDD). The 1332 is the fan speed, as I recall. It means the fan is running outside of the parameters the system thinks it should be running at.  If you don't have it already, you can download iStat Pro to monitor your hard drive temperatures. It may be an issue, or something to keep an eye on, and may require a service visit.

  • Apple Hardware Test for PowerMac G5

    Hi all,
I've used this forum a lot for help in the past, but have never posted...
I'm looking at purchasing a used PowerMac G5. It's the top G5 from the last release in 2005, a quad-core 2.5 GHz with the GeForce 7800 GT. The problem is that the machine isn't starting, with an apparent hardware issue. A highly distorted boot screen (white with grey Apple logo) comes up, and then nothing. My experience is indicating either the video card, or the logic board. It's being sold without any discs, which is fine because I have copies of Leopard, but, unfortunately, it also means it's being sold without the appropriate Apple Hardware Test. AHT would be key to narrowing down problems with this machine. Does anyone know where I would be able to obtain an image that I could burn? (AHT images for PowerMac G5s are not available on the traditional http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html). Is anyone willing to sell their unused media? Does Apple sell for a reasonable fee?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hey guys,
I called Apple, and figured I'd post the results here for anyone else who might be in the same boat or just wondering. According to the customer service representative I talked to, the original system restore discs are available for not more than $45 (2 discs in this case, probably about "30-something dollars"). This seems to go for just about any system. You need to provide serial number, and you'll get the discs containing AHT + the original OS.

  • Apple Hardware Test for G5 (2.2)?

I've been having problems with the front USB port on my G5 (rev. 2.2). Many have suggested that I try running the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) that came with the original install discs. I can't seem to find the original install discs — I have since upgraded the OS several times (currently running 10.5.8). Suggestions for finding the AHT?
    Thanks!

    Here's a USB faq.
    Also, Apple's version.
G5's don't have a downloadable AHT test as the G4's do.
Perhaps a call to Apple will get results (software upgrade center?). They may have one to sell you.

my macbook pro early 2011 i5 is too slow so i use onyx with no result so i make an Apple Hardware Test for check and i have a alert! a problem hardware with code:
    4SNS/1/C0000008:TPCD--124

That sensor is reacting to the temperature at the CPU power bus.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.  This is a hardware problem with no software solution.

  • Mac Mini G4 A1103 Apple Hardware Test

Hi, I would like to perform a Apple Hardware Test for my Mac Mini model A 1103, G4.
And original CD is missing. Is it possible to download it ? and where?
    Thank you!

Nope, you will need to contact Apple and see if they still have a replacement Install Disc for your model.
see >  Apple - How to Contact Us
Another option, is to contact your local AASP and have them do a hardware diagnostic test.

  • Is there a download for the Apple Hardware test 3A126?

Is there a download for the Apple Hardware test 3A126? I get a gray screen for several minutes until start up, Tried holding down the "D" key but no test, there is a disc stuck in the superdrive so I can't use the install DVD.

You can only run the Apple Hardware Test from the correct Disc that came with your system. see > Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Have you tried the following > The ultimate guide to ejecting a stuck disc
or > Eject a stuck disk from your Mac DVD super drive to get the stuck disc out?

  • Separate Apple Hardware Test DVD for MacBook Pro original??

Hey Folks, I'm trying to verify whether or not the MacBook Pro came with the Apple Hardware Test as a separate DVD disk. The "MacBook Pro" Install disk references it but I can't seem to find the software on that DVD. Any guesses out there would be appreciated. I'm about to perform an upgrade for Tiger to Leopard and wnat to give my laptop the "hairy eyeball" before I begin.
    Many Thanks,
    Peter

Insert the DVD and start up the computer with the D key held down. The Hardware Test is on a separate area of the DVD and isn't normally accessible.

  • What is cause for green screen when Apple Hardware Test is assessing memory

My PowerBook G4 1.33 GHZ with 256MB RAM was giving messages about needing to restart on each start-up attempt. Of interest when the the AirPort wireless card (that had not been working) was removed, the restart problem resolved. When the AirPort card was re-inserted, it functioned correcly allowing connections to a wireless router. The restart message did not return and the computer appeared to be functioning normally. Also of note I had reinstalled the system software and had run multiple updates thinking that the intial restart error messages were related to a system software problem. Now, when I run the Apple Hardware Test the first three items "pass" (AirPort, Logic Board, Mass Storage) but, after about 3 minutes of testing the nest topic, "Memory," the screen turns green and blue (reminiscent of the dreaded "blue screen" in Windows). I have to power off the computer and it will restart without problems. Of note the Apple Hardware Test did the same thing before I reinstalled the system software and re-installed the AirPort card. Does this point to a problem with the built in RA<?<br>

Thanks Rodney! Your explanation was correct. I had not waited long enough for the test process to complete. When I watched carefully, it was not until just after the memory section and the beginning of the V RAM testing that the screen started to change apperances. There were multiple changes until finally the original dialogue box reappered. I had previously been too impatient.
