Is there an easy way to reimport all songs in my itunes folder?

This may sound like a weird question but here goes... When I bring up my iTunes I have 8731 files (mostly music) that come to about 41.33G's but when I right click on my iTunes Music folder and select properties there are 8809 files and a total of 48.5G's. I am trying to free up some disk space and can't figure out why there is such a difference. I had issues with Norton 360 and removed it but I had to restore my music files from an external drive and when I did so I lost the links for music that I added after my last back-up. I noticed that TV shows I bought from Apple were not in my iTunes but I was able to locate them in the folder, and import them back into iTunes. I have a feeling there are music files in my folders that are not linked to iTunes but can't figure out how to import them without going through all 8800+ files. Is there an easy way to import all the files without losing the current playcounts or a way to figure out which files may be duplicated in my iTunes Music folder. Seems like I am wasting 7G somewhere that I would like to recover. I already went through the duplicate songs and that didn't help. Any suggestions would be great...

AFIK there isn't an easy way of linking up to a lot of dead tracks and retaining play counts etc, except by finding the dead tracks and repairing each link individually. The only exception to this is if there is a simple error in the path that can be fixed by a search and replace on the xml library file, then rebuilding the library. However it doesn't sound as though that would be a solution for you.
This MacMuse tip has a way of finding dead tracks if that helps.

It is much simpler to sacrifice the playcount information and just reimport your iTunes Music folder. Then you can eliminate the dead tracks with a script. One of the forum members has written one that you can find here:

Sorry, I obviously did not fully understand what was happening. Most users wonder why local folders in their mail clients don't appear on the iPad but that is not your case.
I know nothing about Windows Live email/Hotmail but from a quick read here....

Do you need to validate the iPad with Hotmail? I would assume that you've done that if it's working ok on the iPad.
If that's not the case, I will now bow out and hope that someone comes along that can offer more help than I have to offer.

Hi,
I discovered that I had accidentally imported several folders with the wrong filename prefix. I use the first three letters so it corresponds to the camera I shot it with, the program I exported it from, or the person who sent it to me. The last source, essentially.
Is there an easy way I am not seeing in LR to rename all the images in a shoot without having to reimport them?

Hightlight all of the images in the folder, press F2, and set up a renaming preset to your taste, and then apply it. Note that the preset mechanism is the same one used at import.

The last time i synced my iPhone on iTunes i must have chosen the wrong option to put 2 new songs onto my Playlist (on iTunes) and then i chose Autofill. What happened was all/most of my songs duplicated. i did accidentally chose to the duplication option since the 2 new songs were of the same title. i thought only those 2 songs would sync "duplicated", not the entire Playlist that i created for this device. This List of music is not titled as a Playlist on my iPhone, only shows as my Library of songs + album art work. Ugh.
When i did a search on the iPhone Manual (in Chapter 8) i was only given the option of going to the iPhone songlist, swiping each duplicate song & choosing "Delete". Ugh. That will take a really long time since i now have 1500 songs. HELP! & Thanx. Each time i tried a search in the online communities regarding deletion of the iPhone music there are no communities offered. i do NOT want to delete the Playlist from iTunes only the music from my iPhone so i can resync the single versions of each song.

My first thoughts on your problem JLDraw, is to connect your phone and open in itunes and uncheck your lists or songs, sync so you have no songs on your phone and re-select your songs and/or playlist that you wish to have on the phone and sync again. And don't forget to uncheck the auto fill. Maybe there is an easier way but thats my first thoughts. Good luck

iTunes allows you to play all songs from a specific playlist folder, but so far I haven't figured out a way to do that on my iPhone (4s, 32gb). Is there a way?

I agree that it seems crazy that this can't be done on an iPhone.
Here is the best work around I have found so far.
(It's much quicker and easier to do than to describe.)
In outline, you make an elementary Automator patch
that uses your playlist folder to create a hard coded playlist on iTunes
then just sync across to your iPhone.
1/ Run Automator on your Mac.
2/ In the Automator library select 'Music'.
3/ Under Actions for 'Music' select "Get specified iTunes items" and drag this into the workflow area.
4/ Using the "Get specified iTunes items" widget in the workflow area, press the "add" button.
5/ This allows you to choose from a menu that will include your playlist folder.
6/ Now under Actions for Music select "Add songs to playlist" and drag this into the workflow area
so that the results of the first widget will feed into it.
7/ In the "Add songs to playlist" widget choose "New playlist". Then enter any name for your new playlist.
8/ Run the patch (takes a fraction of a second).
9/ Sync generated playlist to iphone.
Job done.

For CS6 is there an easier way to redirect all my files and folders for all of the programs?

Hey adobe people, Im wondering, I know you can setup each preference individually, but I want to redirect all the catched space, storage of brushes, and etc for all my programs into another disk volume as in changing c/ to e/. Is there a way to do this with in one program to make it easier? I don't want to accidently delete files that all the adobe programs can't find.
The reason is I don't want to store anything other then the programs on the SSD, and in theory I want the other drive, so it can run faster.

There is no global option for this.

Is there an (easy) way to retrieve all exceptions before returning?

What is the typical approach if I have a form submitting data to a stored procedure for inserting a new row and I want to return not the first exception (say, a unique constraint violation) but all constraint violations? I want to not have situation where the user made 5 errors and he's going to modify and submit the form 5 times to get the record submitted.
What is a good way to handle this? What's a bad way to handle this (I was thinking even if you could you probably don't want to do something like GOTO from the exception block back into the procedure body). I could check every argument independently but then what's the point of the constraints and now I have 2 things to keep in sync as business rules change over time.
Any suggestions?

One option would be to create a validation function for each field in the database (for simplicity, assume it returns a 'Y' or a 'N' depending on whether the value is valid). The front end can execute all 8 functions in a single round-trip to validate the data, then submit the data with a second round-trip. You can extend this, of course, so that the validation functions return an error message or a null to provide more information about what is not valid.
A better option if the calling application supports passing collections as parameters, would be to create a collection of exceptions that are returned as an OUT parameter to the procedure, i.e.

If you are really adventurous, you could probably also build up and throw an exception stack that had every exception you encountered and have the front end parse that call stack, but that would strike me as inelegant.
Of course, if there are other users in the system, there is no guarantee that it won't take a couple tries to get the data saved because other users might be modifying other data such that what was valid a moment ago is no longer valid and what was invalid a moment ago is now valid.

Is there a way to transfer all songs off of an ipod and not just purchases?

I recently purchased an MSI wind netbook, with windows xp home. I was wondering if there is a way to import all songs into the itunes library? I have all of my songs on a gateway solo, but I screwed that computer up and have never gotten around to fixing it. I enabled disk mode on the ipod, and accessed the hidden files on the ipod. I can get to all of my songs, but their names are all four capitol letters. I could copy them all to a new folder and then import them, but this would be only as a last resort as I dont have the patience to spend 5 hours organizing the songs. Please help!

I am looking to "move out" of my computer and into my wife's, is there an easy way to accomplish this task, keeping all my files and setting up a second user?

I just bought a new external 3TB hard drive for this task and want to keep my items seperate from hers for both our sanity.
I figured that I would do a time machine back up and use that to do the move part of things.
But as to setting up the new user on her computer I am just not sure if I can "tell" the computer to only use the new drive for my stuff and only acces the new drive for all things related to that new profile.
More then anything else I want to be able to say that all things that are hers have not been touched/acccesed/deleted by any of my actions. And that I am "confined" to the new drive.
I hope this makes sence.

Drag the media folder from one over to an open iTunes window. Go away and have a long lunch. Of course if you have a lot of common content you will be spending your next vacation sorting out the duplicates. Oh, you can search the Internet because I am sure somebody has some wonder tool that purportedly prevents duplicates, not that I would trust any automated method. I always deal with duplicates one by one.

An easy way to quit all multi-tasked apps at once?

Running the SpeedTest app here in Japan I noticed the 3G data speeds improved dramatically (especially upload speeds) after one-by-one quitting all my multi-tasked apps and then restarting SpeedTest by itself.
I had like 20+ apps going at the time. Most of them were probably not contributing to the problem, but still, I don't know which ones.
Anyway, my question is, is there an easy way to force all the apps in the multi-task drawer to quit without one-by-one holding each icon down and pressing the "-" mark?

It still doesn't quite explain what I was seeing though.
With all the apps in the hidden dock my 3G data speeds were incomprehensibly slow. Doing a full restart didn't help. This is a critical point.
Yet when I got rid of all the entries in the hidden dock my 3G data speeds went up to somewhat respectable speeds again. In particular, what appeared to be an upload cap of 64 kbps disappeared and I was seeing upload speeds of about 800 kbps using SpeedTest.
So how to explain that? Just coincidence? Could it be that since that some apps, when the iPhone restarts, do start doing some things in the background again?
There should be some logical explanation for what I am seeing.
And I guess the answer to my original question is there is no way to remove all the apps in the hidden doc at once, is there?

The quick way is when you imprort them to an app on your computer, usually there is the option to delete everything on the phone that was imported. If you declined that option, then you have to do it one by one or manualy select in edit mode.
