Is there an option to purchase lossless/uncompressed music in the itunes store?

the songs I purchase are AAC files, which I understand are "lossy" music files.  There is an option to create a wav file from these, but if my understanding is correct, that will not recover lost data in the file.  Are the "apple lossless" files still obtainable? I've looked around on the site but don't see anyting useful. TIA

You absolutely can't recover data that isn't there by converting a file from a lossy compression to a lossless compression scheme.
iTunes currently does not have any songs available in ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec). But read this article because there are rumors that this might change someday:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1359546/Apple-poised-offer-lossle ss-sound-quality-iTunes.html
As a final thought, unless you are a real audiophile with good ears and a serious sound system, you'll probably find the 256k AAC files from the iTunes Store just fine.

I just downloaded itunes, and when i go to music there are two options. You can either go to the itunes store or scan for media, and when I click on scan for media it does nothing. Help? (I tried deleting itunes and re-installing it but apparently itunes was still on my computer so it asked me if I wanted to just check and see if there were any issues or missing software, so I did that but i still had the same problem.)

    Hi jbserious,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
It doesn't sound like the iTunes software and its components installed completely.  The article below will walk you through some troubleshooting steps.  Is this your first time using iTunes, or do you have an iTunes library from another computer that you want to move to this one?

    Hi  I am Del
I am trying to rent a movie on my Apple tv keep getting the message - verification required before you can make purchases you must go to the itunes store on your computer and verify your payment information
    Thanks

Have you paired your Apple Tv with your iTunes account?  That's how rentals and purchases are billed.  If, however, you have already done that it is possible that there is a glitch in the system.  I've had that happen occasionally and it usually goes away if I reset Apple Tv.  On one occasion that I didn't work so I had to go to iTunes and deauthorize and then authorize this computer.  Also, check to see if your Home Sharing is on (under File in iTunes).  Hope that helps.

What does download all mean on my purchased music from the iTunes Store app?

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks only from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
BTW, are these all recent purchases (last 8 weeks or so) or does it affect older tracks also?

    Zion,
This worked! ...about 50%, but I suppose that's better than nothing.  I went into iTunes on my old username and downloaded the 300+ songs to my library but then for some reason when I went to transfer them to my iPhone it would only transfer like 120 or so of them.  I'm not really sure why but I'll continue to work on it.  Thanks so much for the help.
FYI - if anyone else reads this bc they have the same problem.  If you choose to go this route and download previous purchases from your old account you cannot auto download any content on your new(er) apple ID for 90 days after the purchase download.  Just something to keep in mind, but for me, it was totally worth it.  I have no qualms about manually transferring the songs to my iPhone for the next 3 months if it meant getting the rights to transfer all my old songs to my iPhone.
    Thanks again!

  • I recently purchase a tv episode from the iTunes store, however, can not download to my IPOD Touch.  Apparently, a format issue, any suggestions

I recently purchased a tv episode from the iTunes store.  However, I can not get the tv episode downloaded to my IPOD Touch i.e. can not sync movie although music works fine.  From what I read it is an issue with the format of the episode.  The format is HD and apparently is too much for my IPOD touch.  According to the documentation, the SD format for the episode should have been downloaded at the same time as the HD.  I have the latest iOS for my IPOD Touch, 4.2.1 and latest for ITunes 10.5.3.3.  I am using my PC with Windows 7.  I can not download directly to the IPOD Touch since access to the clous is required i.e. iOS 4.3 or higher.  Any suggestions?

My suggestion is for you to do the downloads overnight.

    Micky,
The iTunes Store sells songs in AAC format.  Most Android phones can play AACs.  Just sync them to your phone per the instructions with the phone.
If by any chance your phone does require MP3 format, you can use iTunes to convert the files, per this guide:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
(This conversion does not require burning.)
For future reference, note that the iTunes Store is really optimized for people using Apple devices.  You might find it more convenient to buy music in Mp3 format from Amazon Digital Music or Google Play Music.

  • HT201272 why can't I re-download already purchased music from the itunes store?

why can't I re-download already purchased music from the itunes store?

What country are you in ? Re-downloading music isn't currently possible in all countries (the record companies need to agree to it for each country). If you are in a country where music can be re-downloaded, then if the tracks are still in the store then they should show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.

  • Why can't you purchase an audio book on the Itunes store from an Apple TV?

Apple seems to be moving everything they sell on Itunes to graphics, away from the traditional text based browse function they started with.
I don't think they've done the most effective job on that move on a PC/Mac, it's sometimes easier just to go through the Apple TV and buy from there and let it just sync and transfer to my Itunes library on my PC.
However, I've noticed that you can't purchase an audiobook from an Apple TV, though you can purchase everything else that can play on an Ipod from there.
Audiobooks just don't show up as an option on the Itunes store from an Apple TV, but they do play on your Apple TV if you purchase them from the Itunes store from the PC or Mac you sync or stream from.
Does anyone know if this is a licensing issue, or yet another oops/oversight on Apple's part? Doesn't seem to make sense, Apple has been pushing tighter and tighter integration between the Itunes store and Apple TV, and it's yet another lost revenue stream on Apple's part that I hope they fix.
If you can buy it from the store, you ought to be able to buy it using your apple TV. Period. Makes as much (non)sense as restricting what content you can purchase if you are buying it from an Iphone vs. a PC vs. a Mac. If you sell content on your store that plays on your devices, then sell it, regardless of which device (that you also make and sell) that your customers access your Itunes store from. It's why they make us sync everything back to Itunes on a computer in the first place.
And yes, while it may sound counter-intuitive to listen to an audio book from a device connected to a TV,
I listen to audiobooks from my Apple TV nightly in my bedroom to go to sleep by, streamed via airtunes to the Aux port on my clock radio by my bed, then turn the TV off and snooze. Works extremely well and has for years now. Beats headphones or futzing with external speakers on an Ipod or trudging upstairs to the room I have my PC in to stream an audiobook to airtunes, then back to bed. With Apple TV, it's pick, click, then turn off the tv and the lights. Sure would be nice to buy an audio book that way also.
Any thoughts on why they would restrict you from buying audiobooks from an Apple TV? To me, it's yet another lost revenue opportunity for impulse buys courtesy of Apple.

  • I purchased Puss In Boots from the iTunes store and can no longer find it in iCloud

I purchased this movie several months ago and up until today have been able to watch it in iCloud.  I no longer find the movie in iCloud or anywhere in the iTunes store.  How do I get the movie I paid for?

    Limnos wrote:

"Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer on the iTunes Store."
When I wrote "that can't be right" I wasn't referring to the link you provided, I was referring to the line from your post that I quoted aka...
Do not rely upon Apple keeping anything...The re-downloading feature is an unreliable bonus, not a storage service.
While this thread (mostly because of me) now somewhat conflates purchases made on a computer via the iTunes Store and purchases made from the iTunes Store via an AppleTV, I am referring to AppleTV purchases, and I stand by my assertion.
My point was - and I'll state it again more clearly - is that the entire purpose of the AppleTV product is that you do NOT store your purchases separately, that they are available for STREAMING at your whim.  Apple does not need to explicitly state this.  It is inherent in the product they sell.  AppleTV is a media streaming product.  And, in fact, their own press supports my assertion:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/inside-itunes/2012/03/movies-now-available-on-icloud .html
"Movies have joined music, TV shows, books, and apps in iCloud, which means that iTunes movies are as easily re-watchable as your DVD...iTunes stores your movies in iCloud, and they can be downloaded again to your various devices at any time...Movies are stored in iCloud, no hard drive required."
Apple specficially states the movies can be "downloaded again at any time" -- and "no hard drive required".  This online storage is not a "separate bonus" -- it is part of the deal.  It is a separate matter (and irrelevant to my point) whether one can TRUST Apple to always be there providing that streaming service or whether it would be prudent to back-up any movies one downloads.
My point was how the product AppleTV is supposed to function.
    Have a good one.
