Is there an Oracle-recommended tool to customize eBS standard reports?

Hi,
a few days ago a collegue of mine dropped in and asked for a tool to customize eBusinessSuite (R12) standard reports. He came along with XXBA_PO_STANDARD_XSLFO.xsl (which is a mix of XSL and FO) and asked me if I could modify the position of some tables and if I knew a WYSIWYG editor that he could do the same without learning XSL and all the stuff.
First thing was not too complicated but the second: I spent some hours to find a tool on the internet, but I didnot find a way to do that on an existing report using the big ones (XMLSpy, Stylus Studio), and I neither found another tool to archive this.
Any hints or recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks
Carsten

  • Are there any guidelines on how to customize R/3 reports into BW

    Hi Everyone,
I have quite a number of R/3 reports that is required to be converted into a BW report but I do not know what I am supposed to do.
Are there any guidelines on how to determine if a R/3 report should be created in BW? If it should be done in BW, how do I consider if it should be reported of a cube or an ODS?
I have been doing development for ard 3years and this is the first time I have to analyze and come up with a functional/design specs. Need help.
If there is any documents on the guidelines, please send it to [email protected]
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Shunhui.

    Hi Shunhui
TABS -> here Venkat was refering to SAP education courses on BW on extraction, reporting etc.
I am not aware if there are any guidelines given by SAP.
I will try to help you build the approrach for this:-
    1. You should collect functional specification of R/3 report. This will include the functionality of that report, logic & calculations involved, usage of report output by end users etc.
    2. Collect technical specification- In this you create excel sheet with all fields in R/3 report with relevant details such as formulas used, calculations involved etc.
3.Map these technical specs with BW business content. Try to see if you can get Business content datasource which will be a fit for majority of your R/3 report fields.
4.Carry out gap analysis and end of this excerise determine how you are going to fill this gap - whether buy using Zinfoobject, routines, datasource enhancements etc.
5.Classify the reports as Aggregate or transactional level. If it is transactional level then you need to make use of ODS.This will determine your data model in BW.
6.Based on 5 steps mentioned above, create a design document with dataflow & data model details.
    7. Get a Sign off on functional, technical specs & design document with proposed dataflow from users and implement it.
For templates of functional & technical specs , you can refer to blueprint section of Accelerated SAP.
    Hope this helps

  • Customize standard report using BI Publisher.

    Hi,
There is one standard concurrent program 'Send Separate Remittance Advices’ whose executable type is 'Java Concurrent program'.
I want to customize the standard report and implement in BI Publisher tool that allows specific output formats to be designed.
How to do this using BI publisher tool?
If some new query or fields required for custom report then how to add the query or fields as the standard program executable type is 'Java Concurrent program'.
Please help me out in this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sagarika

    Hi,
I am working on Send Separate Remittance Advice program in R12.
As per our requirement we need to add some new field in Send Separate Remittance Advice program.
So I have extended the XML in 'iby_fd_extract_ext_pub' package.
The extended XML is working fine if I'll run the Send Separate Remittance Advice program automatically through payment process request.
If Send Separate Remittance Advice program run manually by selecting Payment Instruction Id and Remittance Advice format then whatever extension I have done to add new field is not appearing in XML.
Please suggest me how to resolve this issue.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Discoverer 4i to OBIEE migration methodology - Oracle Recommended Way

    Hi,
We are looking into a scenario where we are required to migrate large number of Discoverer 4i reports to OBIEE. We have good number of custom reports(approx 200) and views too that are to be migrated.
Am aware about the migration assistant that comes along with OBIEE 10.1.3.4. It's a very useful tool, BUT we need to consider the following facts before proceeding:
    1. The tool is not for migrating Oracle E-Business Suite Discoverer reports (BIS).
    2. The minimum version of Discoverer EUL that can be used with the Assistant is 10.1.2.n.
    3. The version of the RPD file that is generated is dependent upon the installed version of Oracle BI EE that the Assistant is run against but must be a minimum of 10.1.3.4.
What is the Oracle recommended approach... complete rebuild of the repository in OBIEE/ Migration from 4i -> 9i ->10g and then to 10.1.3.4/...?
Appreciate inputs from the product gurus and experts.
    Regards

Ok firstly I'm not sure there is an Oracle recommended approach for migration,.
However based on my experience at an eBS client - the Discoverer workbooks were very different from what we wanted to achieve with our new OBIEE dashboards. The Discoverer folders were based on complex views which joined relevant OLTP tables together and contained both Dimension attributes and Facts in the same folder. They were used by our users mainly to extract data at the transaction level into Access databases, this is something we were keen to move away from, and adopt a more Analytic top down approach, drilling into the detail as in Disco. This did require some additional work with our user base to see what they were actually doing in Access and if we could do this in OBIEE, which in most cases we could (although we did use Apex in places too).
We looked at the migration tool, and it seemed to do a decent enough job technically, however for the reasons above ie. the move towards a top down solution we decided on a manual build approach.
The model for OBIEE had to be different, we broke down the views into their component Dimensions and Facts for - whilst the Physical model was 3NF, we ensured the Business model was a pure Star Schema (this was recommended by Oracle). The Subject Areas were kept quite small, and aligned to the business process, no more than 10-12 logical tables with a couple of fact logical tables, and most of all our dev teams had a set of guidelines to follow to ensure we had consistent repositories (Object Names, Ordering, Logical Levels etc..)
If you are using eBS i would have a look at some of the BI Applications Oracle have produced, you may get a good idea for best practise and standards for producing a repository from them. Also the new 10.1.3.4 dashboard has some examples of good layout, and some nice tips (ie. One Answer per Dashboard page, Prompts at the top etc...etc..)
    Good Luck.

  • Oracle DBA Tools for NW Systems ( ABAP +JAVA)

    Hi,
We have installed PI/XI ( ABAP + JAVA). i have the following questions.
1)Like SE11, is any tool SAP supplies to maintain JAVA dictionary objects( belonging to SAPSR3DB)?.
2)Like ST05->Analysis of SQL statement, is any tool SAP supplies to get the explain plan for SQL statements related to SAPSR3DB tables?.
3)Apart from BR* tools and DBACOCKPIT, what are the SAP tools available for administrate Java(Oracle) dictionary objects?.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks.
    Raj.

    Hello Raj,
    1) No there isn't any tool like that as far as i know
    2) You can perform a SQL trace with the OpenSQL monitor or the Wily Interscope agent (which i would recommend). After you have identified the expensive SQL statements you can perform an EXPLAIN PLAN in SQL*Plus or Oracle SQL Developer (free tool). The Java stack is not so comfortable as the ABAP stack in this area.

  • Help with Oracle Scripting Tool

Hello all, I am currently new to using the Oracle Scripting Tool. I can already launch the scripting author and develop some basic scripts using PL/SQL commands and test them using the scripting user responsibility. My main problem is with this one requirement in one of the panels of the script.
In the first panel, there is a multi-list select box with a number of options. The user will select any number of these options then click continue to the next panel. Now here is my problem, if say the user selects 3 options in the last panel, the next panel should show 3 text fields. These text fields will correspond to each option selected meaning if I select 2 options in the last panel, 2 text fields will appear in the next panel or if I select 5 options in the last panel then 5 text fields will apper in the next panel. I dont know how to implement this using the Oracle Scripting tool, please help.. Any advice on this would be of greatly appreciated..

Neither can be affected by the user.  The first is a long-standing, frustrating, bug.  Please report it via Aperture feedback at "Aperture➞Provide Aperture Feedback".  (I make thousands of crops a week, and make hundreds of details from crops (re-cropping smaller).  The current set-up, which "helpfully" over-rides _my_ setting, is extremely frustrating.)
The second is not changeable.  You could recommend larger and/or more visible sizing handles by filing a second feedback request.
    Sorry for the unhelpful news.

At least twice the size does not mean exactly the doubled size.
There is no contradiction between the documentation and your observation in this case.

    I installed the full
Oracle 11g ODAC 11.1.0.6.21 with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio
now I am at the good old "[ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified]" error.
I copied the same tnsnames.ora as used on the db server
    onto the client "C:\Oracle\product\11.1.0\client_2\Network\Admin".
The host name is right since a normal ping works. TNSping is not available.
but I get the [ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified] error.
The listener is running and the instance as well since it all works on the source server.
    I tried it with

sqlplus works on the other hand when I set it to

  • Oracle Development Tools and TFS

    Hey there,
currently I'm struggeling with how to work with Visual Studio Oracle Development Tools and TFS.
I'm relatively new to Oracle-DBs, I'm known to MS SQL Server.
In General my colleagues and me work in the solution Explorer (SQL Server DB-Solution), upload and get the latest Version from TFS. If anything new comes in I can easily use the Schema compare from my solution to the database.
Now my question: How is this possible when working with Oracle DBs? Imagine I get some new tables and schemas from TFS. How do I Transfer this easily from solution Explorer to my Server Explorer / DBs?
Do I really have to deploy each and every script manually?
    Thanks in advance

  • Oracle Migration Tool

I recently downloaded the Oracle Migration Tool for migrating a
Microsoft Access database to Oracle8 for Linux. This migration
    tool contains the following components:
    1. Oracle Installer 3.3.0.1.3
    2. Oracle Migration Assistant for Microsoft Access 8.0.4.0.0
    3. Oracle Named Pipes Protocol Adapter 8.0.4.0.0
    4. Oracle Net8 Client 8.0.4.0.0
    5. Oracle Objects for OLE 2.2.2.2.0
    6. Oracle TCP/IP Protocol Adapter 8.0.4.0.0
    7. Oracle8 ODBC Driver 8.0.4.0.0
    8. Required Support Files 8.0.4.0.0
I installed everything onto my Windows98 client machine. Once I
did this, I could see the following entries in my Start Menu
    under "Oracle for Windows95":
    1. Microsoft ODBC Administrator
    2. 004002 Class Library Documentation
    3. 004022 Bound Controls and Class Library
    4. 004022 Control Notes
    5. 004022 Release Notes
    6. Oracle Home Selector
    7. Oracle Installer
    8. Oracle Migration Assistant for MS Access
    9. Oracle Objects for OLE Documentation
    10. Oracle ODBC Help File
    11. Oracle ODBC README File
    12. Oracle ODBC Test
When I went into the Microsoft ODBC Administrator, I could also
see that there was a new entry under the ODBC Drivers tab:
Oracle ODBC Driver 8.00.0400 Oracle Corporation SQORA32.DLL
    12/3/97
    So far, so good.
Then I started going through the Oracle8 ODBC help file to get
my machine set up to start using the tool. Under "Configuration
    Tasks," it says the following:
Before you configure the data source, you must configure Net8
database services, so there is an entry for each Service Name.
To do this, start the Oracle Net8 Assistant, either click on the
Oracle for Windows NT program group and click on the Oracle Net8
Assistant icon or from the start bar select Programs, select
Oracle for Windows NT, and select the Oracle Net8 Assistant.
Using the Oracle Net8 Assistant, you can create an entry in the
tnsnames.ora file for each Service Name. The Oracle Net8
Assistant is installed when you install Net8.
That's when I started running into problems. Although the
installer had shown that Net8 had been installed, I could not
find any evidence of a Net8 Assistant on my Windows98 client
machine. Is there a trick to starting up the Net8 Assistant?
Until I am able to perform this step, I cannot go to the next
step of configuring my ODBC driver.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Brendan,
I am not 100% sure, but I believe win98 is not supported.... yet.
I know that 95 is supported, but to be honest, I do not run
winDOZE. Maybe an upper authority from Oracle should correct me
    if I am wrong.

Why choose Oracle ERP Tools over other competitors ERP's?
What are the benefits of implementing Oracle ERP Tools with a company?

Do you mean Oracle 'ETL' tools (Extraction, Transformation, Load), as this is the OWB forum? If so, there's lots of supporting OWB collatoral (OWB is Oracle's ETL tool) at http://otn.oracle.com/products/warehouse/htdocs/OTN_collateral.html , including a paper entitled 'Three Business Reasons To Move To Warehouse Builder' at http://otn.oracle.com/products/warehouse/pdf/Warehouse_92_business_whitepaper.pdf
