Is there an update for airport extreme that is about seven years old?

is there an update for an airport extreme purchased about seven years ago? The signal in my whole house goes down and has to be re-booted quite often.
I had a service call down by my cable company and their "arris" box in my house sends out a decent signal but the airport extreme gets "bottle-necked" per the service man

Check the firmware on your AirPort Extreme. The last firmware version for it was version 5.7, however, there were some fairly well-known problems with it that would cause it to become apparently unreponsive on occasion, and require the need to completely power down the Extreme.
If it is running firmware version 5.7 or 5.6 try downgrading it to firmware version 5.5.1. The older AirPort Extreme had a problem with 5.7 that would cause the problem you described, and 5.6 was even worse.
In other words its two most recent firmware updates made things worse. Having experienced this identical problem with two 802.11g/b Extremes, I suspect they had a fundamental flaw that Apple never admitted, but solved with the introduction of the new 802.11n models.
If you are running the most recent version of AirPort Utility for Lion, the option to upload firmware 5.5.1 to your Extreme is not likely to be available though. I am reasonably sure that AirPort Utility 5.5.3 will include the ability to upload an earlier firmware version to your Extreme.
Try it. It could make things better, or worse, or could introduce an entirely new problem, but you can always undo your troubleshooting by uploading the most recent firmware again.
Ultimately you may come to the same solution as I did, which was to buy a new 802.11n Extreme.

If your supposed to be getting 20 Mb/s down via your ISP and both Mac's are not getting that on the SpeedTest, then obviously your router appears to be the cause.
Connect one Mac directly to the ISP's modem, power off/wait 30 seconds/then power on, then power on the Mac. The ISP will connect directly to the Mac, then run a SpeedTest.
Then repeat the same for the other Mac. If both Mac's have a problem then it's possibly the ISP, the modem, your lines to them or on your property, or both Mac's are messed up.
You'll have to keep searching for the cause. Call your ISP and ask then to run a test to see if your getting your 20 Mb/s to your modem, that should clear part of the problem.

You can buy and use an Airport Express as an extender for your wifi signal. Generally, the Express would be located halfway between the Extreme and the area that you want to extend the wifi signal to. The Airport and Extreme must be in radio range of each other to be able to perform this function.

There isn't one that will work with PSE 11. The XT-1 requires at least 8.4, which is not compatible with PSE 11, so you would need to upgrade PSE. Your other option is to use the free adobe DNG converter to make DNG files that your version of ACR will read.

Is there a FAQ for Airport Extreme/Time Capsule & wireless printing?

I have an Airport Extreme Wireless "N" with Time Capsule and want to set up a printer. To my dismay, I cannot find the booklet that came with my Time Capsule and just need to know the basics of setting up the printer too the Wireless router (airport+time capsule).
Sorry to ask such a dumb question, but can I just plug the printer in to the USB port on the wireless router? Or should I plug it into the wired router that the airport router plugs into?

I need to able to search for calendar entries that are over one year old.

I am an old Palm OS user and have used the calendar on it to track my clients visits/service for the last 15 years. By searching the customers name on the palm, it would bring up every entry I had keyed in for them, so I could immediately know how old their equipment was, what service had been done, etc. I also used the calendar to track my daily and weekly sales. I was disappointed to find that the ipad does not search for any entries older than one year. Is there something that can fix this or is there an app that could be used in the way the palm was? Well, that would depend on what calendar you are using.
If you are simply relying on the calendar on the device, well, that's not very smart. Restoring from backup should put everything back.
If the calendar is synced with another service, like Google, iCloud, Exchange, do the entires still exist there?
If the calendar is synced with Outlook or iCal on your computer, do the entries still exist there?

I have a 24" iMac that's about 4 years old. I've done all the software updates as they come along but I'm having issues and wonder if I should update/upgrade the whole operating system. I currently have 10.5.8 and I'm wondering where to go from here.

There's website I that I want to utilize that requires the lastest verision of JAVA and my OS 10.5.8 is too old to do a download of the latest JAVA. So I'm thinking I need to upgrade the OS to something newer?? I'm thinking my hard drive needs to be cleaned up also (re-format?)

That's odd. My Mac is 10 years old and runs OSX 10.4 and I can open pretty much any web site I want to, and I have yet to encounter a PDF I cannot open (more advanced ones with Adobe Reader). My computer isn't slowing down but everything else is speeding up.

So you need Photoshop CS6 or newer for ACR 8.2 or newer to get RAW support for your G16 or Lightroom 5.2 to convert you RAW file into RGB Image files Tiff or Jpeg that any Photoshop version you have can process. Setup instructions for airport extreme needed

Can anyone please suggest some good instruction sites or downloadable files for the airport extreme?
I tried to install one previously and it didn't work and I returned it, but I would like to try again.
I have a 2008 mac pro on ethernet, an xbox on ethernet and a 2007 mbp and two 2009 mbps plus a 3g iphone and a windows xp pc that I can currently use on my Belkin pre-N router with Virgin internet.
The pc has a Belkin usb N adapter for its connectivity.
The system works pretty well but I was wondering if I would get better speed or coverage from an airport extreme.
Two concerns that I have are that the airport extreme seems to be several years old now (2007?) and I am wondering if it is due for an update soon?
Also, to get faster speeds or less interference, will I be able to set the airport extreme to the 5 ghz band and still have connections to all my current hardware?

That's hard to say. Sometimes speed and/or coverage on the 5 GHz band can be worse than on the 2.4 GHz band, depending on several factors.

Since latest update to airport extreme im getting 10 unknown base station and time capsule items showing in airport utility as a network. when able to "forget" them they initially drop off but soon return. how do i get them deleted and stay that way

since latest update to airport extreme im getting 10 unknown base stations and time caps showing up as though they are a part of my network. sometimes i can "forget" them and they will disappear initially but soon return. i need and want only my connection inside my home . any ideas. i have done a factory reset and set up a new network but they continue to show up.

I'm not convinced that the problem lies in Airport Utility. This same thing was happening to me, nearly exactly as you describe it. The thing is that with me, the problems clearly started when I updated the firmware in my Airport Express (n). That's when all the wacky stuff started happening. Sometimes it would show up in AU, sometimes it didn't and even if it didn't, I could still access the internet through it.
But as you said, the problems got really bad when another Express (b/g) was put on the network with it. Even when it did work, the (b/g) would make it impossibly slow.
You know more about this than me, and clearly have more patience if you've restarted the network fifty times. I gave up at about ten.
In any case, your solution is more of a work around and if you're still having that slow connection problem, I'm not sure you've got it. But thanks for your reporting of this. At least I know I'm not crazy.
