Is there and apple software package similar to BES?

I currently work for a large organisation in the Health industry and we are gradually using more and more ipads and ipods for staff and patients and i was wondering if Apple had some server software to manage the devices in a similar way to the BES server software that we use?
If you be good to have the devices managed on a central server in a similar way to the way we manage our blackberrys
Thanks

Mac OS X Server has Profile Manager, which allows configuration and management of iOS devices. Information can be found here:
http://www.apple.com/support/lionserver/profilemanager/
and full documentation here:
http://www.apple.com/osx/server/specs/
There are several third-party MDM systems as well, such as Casper from JAMF Software. If you search this forum and the web for "MDM" or "mobile device management", you'll find other options. We don't manage our iOS devices centrally (other than the Exchange server which only enforces basic stuff) so I can't make recommendations from my own experience.

Please provide enough information for us to know what you are trying to do and with what version.
You could be asking about anything from the box the software comes in (if it did) to built-in PL/SQL packages and we should not have to guess at your meaning.

  • I want to stylise a finder window on a CD-ROM... that is, when a CD data disc I've created is inserted into the Mac and double-clicked, the finder window has the layout and background I've chosen. Is there any Apple software which will do this?

I've created a CD-ROM which essentially has a website on it.
I've added an autorun for PC users (assuming those guys still exist) which launches "index.html". So no worries there.
For Mac users, as autolaunch isn't an option (correct me if I'm wrong?), I want to control the look and layout of the Finder window which opens when the disc is inserted and the CD icon is double-clicked. What's the best Apple software to use to do this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Nice to hear your story.

  • I am using several non-apple software packages and am wondering if Lion is compatable.

I am using some software packages that I am concerned are not compatable with Lion.  iBank, Office mac 2008, Parallels and a few others.  I am a little concerned that spending $29.99 for Lion will cost me a couple hundred in upgrades on the other software packages.  Anyone have any idea how I can find out which programs are compatable with Lion?

iBank, Office 2008 and Parallels are all compatible with Lion.

  • Cannot upgrade or delete existing versions of iTunes and apple software

I keep getting an error message:
    Error getting file security:
    C:\ProgramData\3BE82C4-E596-4e99-A191-52C6199EBF69\GetLastError:5
I cannot upgrade or delete existing versions - the Apple software installer seems to be the problem, but I can't find the file above and delete or uninstall it. I've tried uninstaller programs.
    Can anyone help?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
I would try manually deleting the folder: C:\ProgramData\34BE82C4-E596-4e99-A191-52C6199EBF69

  • Unable to uninstall QuickTime and Apple Software Update

    HELP US
This is really screwed up. I got the notice to update to 10, ran the update, threw an error about looking for a file, quicktime.msi. Nowhere on my machine. I followed the troubleshooting tips. I am now unable to uninstall Quick Time, still looking for the quicktime.msi. Unable to uninstall the Apple Software Update, looks for applesoftware.msi. I spent 3 months moving my entire music directory to itunes, now I cannot update/add music to my wifes ipod, or my mother in laws ipod, both 8 gig and now I am not sure if I want to get the 32 gig ipod touch. When I try and download version 10, once again it looks for quicktime.msi, cannot find it, fails to install quicktime and of course itunes does noT install. Now what? anybody got a copy of the two .msi's?
Is there anyone out there from apple to help us?

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any *Apple Software Update* and QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Windows 2K and Apple Software Update

Is there any way of preventing a W2K machine from automatically getting Safari from Apple Software Update?
Apple Software Update does not seem to check that it is incompatible with W2K and yet installs itself anyways.
For that matter, is there any method of excluding specific updates (such as Safari) from ASU at all (WinXP/Vista/W2K?

Yeah, as AOpen said, go to the Tools menu and select "Ignore Selected Updates." But, if you're getting these things coming up it sounds like you're on a later version of iTunes than is supported. iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000 is the last one for that OS: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes732forwindows2000.html
Maybe it's just best to uninstall the Apple Software Update component, if you're at the latest version for your OS already. ..if you're using a higher version, and the associated Update software that came with it, well it's not expecting to run from this OS in the first place, so of course doesn't check for that.

  • HT1925 I uninstall all the itunes component except in the order i was supposed to as i found out later on, and know i can't remove Itunes and Apple software itself. What should i do..

I uninstalled all the Itunes components but not in the right order, now i can't uninstall the Itunes or the Apple Software thats left. What should I do?

many thanks. Okay, we'll give the following procedure a shot.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Is there any Apple software or app that can disable internet in a lab?

I manage a computer lab of 28 computers and just need SOMETHING that can remotely disable the internet temporarily. I am going out of my mind trying to find something that will work. Its a wireless lab, used by HS students. I have no control over the wireless hub/ "airport"/ whatev settings,  parental controls are not a viable option. ARD seems to have been a bust.
    Suggestions?

The easiest thing to do is use ARD to set the proxies to a non-existant proxy server (127.0.0.1)  when you want to disable www.
There is a template in Send UNIX Command>Templates>Network Setup>Web Proxy
Replace the last line of the template with these two and send to clients (test one Mac first):
    networksetup -setwebproxy "Wi-Fi" 127.0.0.1 8080 Off
    networksetup -setsecurewebproxy "Wi-Fi" 127.0.0.1 8080 Off
Replace "Wi-Fi" with whatever their active Network conenction is named in System Prefs>Network, as sometimes it has a custom name if Wi-Fi has been retrofitted.
To turn internet ON, repeat the above with commands to disable proxies..
    networksetup -setsecurewebproxystate "Wi-Fi" off
    networksetup -setwebproxystate "Wi-Fi" off
You can save these Tasks in the sidebar or in the Send UNIX Command>Templates menu and name them "Internet OFF" & "Internet ON".
Then in future, you can just Right-click and choose Run Task.

  • Old mm move is there and apple accessory to use to transfer over to Mac Pro retina

I have vintage reels of family movies. The projector I have (very old) does not have any additional aux type plug ins. What is the best ways to get this on my Mac, with out paying hundreds of dollops using professional media company?  I use video capture now ( grout from apple store) it works great on my old VCR.  Any advice on how to do this and kept my cost down?

I can give you links but you need to birddog costs:
    http://www.supermediastore.com/article/u/tape-8mm-to-dvd
If you google, "8 mm movies to dvd or digital" you'll get more.
I assumed you meant 8 mm movies. If super 8 then google for that. I also assumed you didn't google because you didn't say you did.
