Is there any hope for my iPod?

My neglected iPod has sat on my desk unused for a very long time; since I have all my music on my iPhone, i really don't need it any longer. However, today I was looking for a particular song, and I know it is on the iPod. I figured the battery would be dead, so I plugged it in and nothing, nada, absolutely not a thing happened, for over an hour I let it sit and try to charge. I then plugged it into my MacBook, and again, it sat, dead. Have I completely let it die of neglect never to be able to get it charged and playable? Does anyone have a suggestion as to my next step? Thank you kindly in advance for your help.

Probably not as the reallocs are very high as well as the start/stop.  You can try and do a low level reformat of the iPod's Hard Drive using the instructions in this article to try and breathe new life into it.

  • I dropped my ipod 4 into the toilet. I tried turning it on twice, stupidly. Then put it in rice. Is there any hope for my ipod? and if not is there a way to get all 1500 of my photos? Pleaaase help!!!

Hello i dropped my ipod in the toilet (clean water). Once i took it out of the toilet i pressed the home button and within a second it shut off! :( I quickly dried it with a towel and accidently pressed the top button!  D: and put it immediatly into a bag of rice. 3-4 hours passes and i tried to turn it on nothing happened.  I honestly tjougjt it would be dry...stupidly! and now its on the rice and has been in there for an hour since the last time i triwd turnong it on. Is there any hope that my ipod will be okay? and if not could it be repaired? How much is it to repair? One more question what will happen to my photos, is there a way i could atleast get my photos?!? Please please please help!!!!!! please!!!

Hey Posada143, You can still try the rice thing, but do not expect much, as roaminggnome has stated. The rice only works if you do it ASAP and leave the iPod off-- do not attempt use, turn on or charge until it is completely dried out. This is probably academic at this point but remember this for the next time: The drying can take 10 days. You put the uncooked rice and iPod in a sealed bag, change the rice every couple of days. This creates a low humidity environment and draws the moisture out of the iPod, but it takes time. Turn your iPod on to earlier, and you run the risk of shorting out, damaging the components inside. Even if done correctly it can spotty. If you do get the iPod to work (and this may require Resetting, Restoring or attempting to place it in DFU recover mode) the first thing you do is make backups, because you never know how long it will continue to work. As for your pictures, if you can't get your iPod to work, you can try data retrieval companies, however; there is no guaranty it will work and it tends to be very expensive. In the future get in the habit of as making backups, because you just don't know. And invest in and use a water tight case. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

  • Is there any hope for my ipod touch .. tried to update. clicked restore and now the message i receive is The ippod "iPod" could not be resored. An error has occured (1)   could someone please help

what does error (1) mean... not able to restore iPod touch... please help

Usually indicates a hardware failure. Try restoring again, on a different computer if you can. And use Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808. If that fails then it is nearly certainly a hardware issue as I said.

  • I accidentally washed my iPod nano. Is there any hope for it?

I stuck my iPod nano in my pocket, and yes, forgot to take it out before my sister washed our clothes. Right after it got washed, I plugged it in to my computer, and it did turn on, just with a little distortion on the screen. It has been about a month now though, and the iPod won't turn on at all, even when it is plugged in. But iTunes recongizes that the iPod is plugged in.
Is there any hope for my iPod, or would it be better just to save for a new one?

I think that when you turned it on after it was washed, that was the end. If it's been a month and won't turn on, I would assume it probably won't ever. Start saving your money. Apple has refurbished models that carry the same warranty as new units and they are $50 less. Check these out:

I have not had any experience in getting any devices repaired so I'm not sure which store to resort to. An official Apple store should more than likely get you what you need, but I'm guessing it's probably more expensive. (if any cost for your situation)
I hope you get your problem resolved.

  • Is there any hope for a Nano 6th gen that went through the washing machine?

Is there any hope for a Nano 6th Gen that went through the washing machine?  All of the devices contents are showing up in iTunes when connected but the device itself is not working.

    Hello kpratta,
There is some hope. I have heard of someone putting the ipod in a bag of dry rice and putting the bag in a dark place for a 4-5 days. After that they used this:
    www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
This has the best chance. The rice absorbs any liquid in the ipod.
    Hope this helps.

What a colossally bad idea!  To anyone reading this thread DO NOT DO THIS!!!  Once anyone other than an Apple Authorized Service Provider (and that doesn't automatically mean your carrier, just FYI) opens up the device, then ALL options from Apple are gone, permanently.

  • I dropped my phone down the toilet and before I switched it off I sent a text. I have left it to dry out for the last 48hiurs. Is there any hope for my iPhone 5c?

Probably not. First of all, 48 hours is not enough. 5-7 days is better. Secondly, if you did not turn it off the very instant you retrieved it, it probably did worse damage. Even if it powers on, it's very unlikely it will function 100%.

  • Is there any hope for us here?

I live in the Caribbean (Dominican Republic). I see the iPhone getting released in a lot of big countries, but I don't see Apple releasing the iPhone in other countries like mine.
I have seen iPhones activated here, but as you know they are being ilegaly activated with the hacking options available, and with every new update the hacks get frustrated.
Is there any hope for the iPhone being released in countries like mine here in the caribbean? What chances do you see for us here? Are we destined to live without the iPhone or with an hacked-outdated iPhone?

The best thing to do is keep watching for announcements from Apple on when the iPhone will be coming to the Dominican Republic, since this is a user to user forum no one would be able to give you an answer.

  • Help!  Is there any hope for my pictures?

A couple weeks ago my iPod died just before I was to go on vacation.  I took the dead iPod with me because I would be vacationing near an Apple store.  While on vacation I got the iPod replaced.  The genius bar person told me just to sync it with my computer when I got it home.  I proceeded to use it for the rest of my vacation, including taking pictures and videos.  When I got home last night, I plugged it into my computer and clicked he restore button as instructed.  My apps are all synced, but now I've lost my vacation pictures!  There was no warning message about my pictures being destroyed!  Is there any hope?

    tryglyph,
More than likely not.  Restoring the iPod erases all content and settings from the iPod.  Sorry.
Next time, be sure to copy all videos and photos from your iPod first.

  • Is there any hope for my 5S after it's dip?

    Hi All
I dropped my 5S in water two days ago.  I got it out in seconds, powered it off, dried it with a cloth, removed sim, and shook all water out and placed it in rice.  It's been in the rice in the airing cupboard for 48 hours.  So I took it out and tried it.  Nothing.  So, plugged it in to charge, it buzzed but nothing.  I left it a while, still nothing.  I flicked the mute button on and off and that buzzed too.  I tried holding down the home button and the power button but nothing.  So I've put it back in the cupboard in the rice.  Is there any hope???

Nope. Even if it does start working again, it's only a matter of time before it fails completely.

  • My Ipod mini got wet..is there any hopes for it? HELP PLEASE

My ipod got wet by mistake. Is there any way that it could survive? Or and i better of just getting a new ipod.
Also after is was wet( i didn't know) i plugges it into the charger and started 2 smell smoke. It didn't catch on fire but the bottom of both the charger and the ipod mini got somewhat burnt.
    HELP!

In my opinion you made a big mistake by trying to turn on the iPod by plugging it into the charger without letting it dry out first. You should have left it somewhere warm and dry for at least 4 or 5 days to ensure it completely dried out before attempting to turn it on or plugging it into a charger.
To be honest, I think you need another one!

  • Any hope for this iPod Shuffle stuck in DFU Mode?

I received a 2nd Gen iPod Shuffle that was in dire straits. The owner complained that they couldn't access it at all, for anything.
Plugging it in and looking at the System Profiler, the device showed up as a "USB DFU Device". Googling this issue, I found that Shuffles in this condition can be repaired using the iPod Reset Utility.
I downloaded the utility, installed it and ran it, and clicked the "Reset" button to reset the Shuffle to factory settings. At the part for "Waiting for the iPod to restart - do not disconnect", the utility freezes. NO spinning beach ball or anything, just stuck. CPU usage for the "iPod Reset Utility" in Activity Monitor stays at 0.0%.
After about a minute or so of watching this frozen program, a pop up window appears with the following error:
    "Error
    An error occurred resetting iPod."
Googling this error message yields one forum post in another language without any follow-up. This error message is really vague and I have no idea why it's doing this.
I do not have much hope for this Shuffle, but I'm curious if anyone knows of anything else I can do to bring this Shuffle back to life.

ok got it fixed it needed to be shut down when i plugged into the computer for the itunes to recognize it my ipod kept on restarting as soon as it shut down thank you for the help
