You can add family base to set limits and who the phone text's, however since it is a basic phone you don't have access to an app store to download applications.

Are there ANY memos/notes apps that will sync with Mac, NOT "cloud"?

In desperation I got BlueMarbleSOftware.com's "Memos" app to move memos from my now defunct Palm to my iPhone. I then discover that "Memos" can't create a new category on the iPhone. Grr. It also uses a Google Files account to move them. I keep sensitive information in my memos and I'm NOT going to put that out in the "Cloud". So, this isn't working out well.
My question:
Is there ANY iPhone/OS X application pair out there that will allow me to sync my notes/memos to my Mac and not to the Cloud? iTunes is a pretty poor sync mechanism since it can only allow me access to iTunes type stuff. iCal, while not very good, at least syncs with the calendar on the iPhone and contacts also sync with OSX. However, nothing that I can find will sync notes with the Mac directly. Has anyone out there found something that will? I'm happy to pay for it if it DOESN'T go through the "Cloud".
I love my iPhone's capabilities, but Apple's restrictions on its use are dimming my enthusiasm a bit about the iPhone being a killer "do everything" box.

This sounds ideal - My read of it wasn't perfectly clear - Does it sync through the USB cable that the Apple sync uses or though a wireless connection? How good is the Mark/Space notes app? Apple's notes doesn't allow grouping by category, everything goes into one place, is the M/S notes app better than that?

I am looking for a way to highlight / color code the full file or folder name. Mavericks changed my color codes to small dots, worthless. Are there still such things as "helper" apps or "plug-ins" that change the way finder behaves, or has Apple locked down Mavericks such that only approved apps from the App Store at iTunes are what is available?

You can install any Apps you want from Any sources. You may get a one time message that the App is from an unidentified developer, but just click ok, and you won't get the message again

As you can see the choices are many and varied. Read the reviews for additional advice. Choose a free App for evaluation. Then you can buy the upgrade if you are satisfied.
I have only added GPSLite, and GPS Drive to my mobile devices...both have the capability to enter Lat/Long.
Apple Maps is my preferred iOS Maps App. I use a Garmin Rhino out in the field, and a built in Nav system for my auto when on the road. If you are interested, Geocaching has an excellent App.

I accidentally restored my iPhone 4 to factory settings after a problem in the music app. I do have a backup but it is encrypted and I do not know the password. All password retrieving apps I've found are not supported by mac. Can someone point me to one that does work? Preferably a free one? Thanks!

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Restart the computer.
Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

Seems like if you don't own an iTouch or iPhone, your SOL! I've read to be careful just downloading anything from anywhere. Are there safe sites offering games and/or apps? Thanks!

None that I am aware of, just the limited games that are available on the iTunes Store.

I find it difficult to type in default keyboard of iphone. So, I need a free app of Alphanumeric keypad, keyboard.

You cannot add keyboards to the iPhone. You can investigate other apps that have their own keyboards. There are lots of texting editing apps out there. Some have different keyboards. You can then copy and paste your text where you want it.

I would like to use this notebook for monitoring the back of my place as the neighbour is getting manic again and destroying my property and things might get worse. Anyway i have ran several apps in windows and linux but dont know anything about doing it on a mac. I know the webcam i have works on this old g4 as i tried it with skype

Ha ha yes it is like that K Shaffer. I dont bother anymore though unless there is no freeganism going on. I do the freegan thing only with non-food items though. The different areas around sydney that the rich people live in are a great resource when they throw out white goods etc. They are not supposed to throw out ewaste but they do. scored super amounts of stuff and i sell heaps of it on ebay. Mostly intel things and some old mac stuff (dinosaur era) but starting to get some near modern mac stuff. Modern for me anyway. I am a linux person normally and do video/audio production with it but trained on mac's. Cant afford them but nice to score now two operational mac's in the last week. One oldie can monitor the back now and the other i will buy a battery for and it will be my outdoor friend he he.
I initially got the first lot of cam's (IP) from the freecycle network(for free-community) about 4 years ago as a socialpath was living upstairs and trying to kill several neighbours, He ended up getting evicted before i could get some evidence on him. They always trip themselves up no matter how clever they think they are. The cam's have not needed to be on since 2 years ago but sometimes when the local junkies start stealing stuff i warm the cam's up again. Always had one attached to the back porch as well but it is not attached officially to anything. Got an ethernet cable long enough but not for the power cord. Ah well. Was always thinking if i scored another laptop and one of the locals wasnt screaming for one i would use it. I am the local amateur techie and aways fixing windows bullcrap he he.
I have heard the police can't use the webcam captures as evidence but it is good for Housing NSW(community government Housing) when u want to backup what you are saying about something. They paid better attention before when i had some footage of that past bad neighbour having a weird confronation with another neighbour. He lied about something and this caught him out and got them to pay attention to my claims.
I am also in the last throws of a case against Housing NSW as well as i tripped and broke my knee 1.5 years ago and they are partialy to blame for it because of lack of maintenance/repairs to the estate. Phew its a long story anyway.....
so thanks will experiment with this app and see what happens
