Is there any type of soft synth that came with my mac? OSX ver 10.8.4

pls pardon the very basic question- i've been pc for 25 yrs, just got my mac and i probably don't even qualify as a "newbie" yet.
i have a home rec studio, use band in a box and reaper for my daw.  have a roland A30 midi controller (keyboard) and would like to find a softsynth that has a really good grand piano and strings.  i'd like to have something with better quality than GS Wavetable or some of those that come as standard fare  with any computer you buy.  although free is better, i probably could go $60 - 75.  i've been with Reaper for about 2 yrs and know it pretty well and would like to stay with it for my daw, so whatever i get needs to be Mac & Reaper compatible.
any help/suggestions greatly app

thanks, this does help knowing i can export from other programs into g b.  just 2 last questions -
1-  is there a way to change the name of a track in g b?  let's say i load "grand piano"  into track 1 but i need to
re- label the track to something more specific - is there a way to do this or am i stuck with the generic name
that OSX assigns to it ? ?
2-  the "grand piano" track that i just loaded, if i needed to find that audio file, where would i look ?  i'm not familiar
enough with the file heirarchy to even begin knowing where to look.  is there a place (directory, folder) where
Mac routinely sticks these files ?

I have an optical mouse that came with my Mac Pro, the only thing plugged into the USB port on the keyboard. After a year of working normally, the trackball all of a sudden stopped scrolling down. It scrolls up just fine, but not down. Any thoughts?

    Well
I tried all of the suggestions, sort of. I did not have alcohol wipes, but I did take alcohol and pour some ona white paper towel and then rolled the mouse touch ball aroound and that finally cleared up the problem.  Just inverting it on paper did not do the reick, it needed some help with the alcohol.  Of course the probelm is the debris that gets inside and it really needs to come out.
This is a huge problem for RIM devices users too.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • HT2471 How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose the apps that came with this Mac Book when I recover it?

How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose apps that came with the Mac Book if I recover it?

Press the command and r keys when turning on your Macbook.  Do not release those keys until you see the apple logo...
Disk Utility will pop up.....Your choices are to reinstall, you will not lose anything....
if however, you decide to format/erase your drive, then reinstall, you will lose everything...
suggestion - back everything up and do a clean install.
    good luck

  • I have an old G5 MAC I want to recycle but I need to clean my drive.  I can't find the diskette that came with the MAC to do this.  Any suggestions

Any suggestions on wiping my MAC drives clean if I don't have the diskette that came with it?

Don't mean to upstage a level 6 Tech but having just wiped my own G5 for reinstall, I know you can do it on the computer monitor.  If by "recycle" you mean to sell or give away the computer, go to Disk Utilities (in Application/Utilities) and hit the erase button, choose the 35x swipe and it's supposed to clean it completely within a couple of hours.  I did the 7x wipe and got a sudo (single user que) showing nothing but the presence of BSD initiation and a "We're hanging here".  Did a reinstall and it's beautiful.

  • How can I know if the software that came with my mac is valid or pirated?

I recently purchased a MBP that came with numerous amount of really expensive software like Adobe Masterclass Collection,Logic 9, Key Note, Pages, Numbers, Final Cut Pro and many more. How can I find out if this software collection that came on the mac are valid or pirated. Is there a app that can scan my mac for serials or to verify the apps? If infact they are legit purchased, how can I put them on my other mac? or is it even possible. For example, Final Cut Pro and logic are from Apple. Could they Verify them?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Unfortunately, there's not a way to check if they are original or pirated. Also, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Final Cut Pro (if it's Final Cut Pro X) and Logic Pro, if they were purchased in the App Store, don't need a product key. My advice is to delete all those applications, and purchase again the applications you need with your Apple ID in the App Store, if they are available there.
That's because you will have problems to update them (as they are registered to the old owner's Apple ID) and you can't use them legally if you haven't purchased the applications

  • CD's that came with my mac?

I know this might be a stupid question but, the two CD's that came with my Macbook Pro, are they used for restoring my computer? Or do you have to put them in right when you get your mac?

They are restoration DVDs, you do not need to use them when the machine arrives. All you need to do with a new Mac is turn it on and follow the on-screen directions. Do NOT lose the DVDs, they are machine specific and at some point you may need them. Keep them somewhere safe.

  • Do I need the original disk that came with a mac or can I just buy the OS software??

Hi I recently bought a used macbook and the seller did not have the original disks that came with the computer. What I was wondering is if I needed to install a new hard drive in the event that mine fails, can I just buy a copy of the OS and install it on the new hard drive or do I need the specific disks that came with the machine??
    Thanks for your help

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You say that you have Mac OS X 10.7.5, so if it came preinstalled, see that you can't reinstall it because it's registered to the old owner. Call Apple to get replacement DVDs
If you want, you can upgrade to Mountain Lion. See if your computer is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs Open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion

  • Are there any QR code reader's that work with the KIN twoM? Any web based appliacations? VZW based?

ANy help would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

Well thank you! I just recently learned about them myself  because the company I work for is about to start using them. Many companies are utilizing these now and I bet youll see alot more in the years to come. For example, best buy is actually using these on their price tags. Here, take a look: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=best+buy+qr+code&view=detail&id=07500A4A6E4E35B28119067F5FA2091D12CFCC6D&first=1&FORM=IDFRIR
See the QR on the lower left side? If you scanned that with your phone(or did I what I suggested with the kin), it would lead you to best buys mobile site for the item you are looking at.  With that link,  you can access further information about the product before you purchase it. Like all the specs listed online. So it seems like it could be a very useful tool. Recently bought a copy of Jack@ss 3d and a QR code was on there as well.  I believe that one linked you to some extra scenes or stuff like that.

  • Does anybody remember the demos that came with the Mac OS 7, '95-'96ish? I remember spin doctor, amazon trail, dino tycoon and others being on it.  Does anybody remember some colored balls which you could move around on a black background with music?

This music also sometimes sounded erotic (weird, I know).  You could attach multiple balls together and they moved like a worm.  I also remember, on this same demo a weird, quirky shop where you could buy weird looking pets.  If anybody can tell me the names of the games or even better, the demo disk, you would make two sisters trying to remember their youth very, very happy.

System 7 came with some very classic, fun, interesting games.
The game that you are thinking of was called "Firefall." The game was made by Pangea Software.
Below is a youtube link to see the game in action / listen to the music:
