Is there any way I can switch Automatic Backup off?

Is there any way I can turn automatic backups off in Logic Pro 8? Apple has set it so you can't switch them off any more. (You could switch them off in Logic versions 6 and 7.)
I see other people have had this problem and it has been discussed on these forums but nobody seems to have offered a crystal clear solution.
I know somebody suggested you change the number below:
<key>MaxBackupsToKeep</key>
<integer>10</integer>"
And someone else wrote:
From the command prompt type:
defaults write com.apple.logic.pro MaxBackupsToKeep 0
But I can't see exactly how or where to do this. I opened com.apple.logic.pro.plist and found "MaxBackupsToKeep" used in a different context to what is described above. I changed a '1' after this text to '0' but that had no effect whatsoever.
Can somebody please help? How exactly do you switch this annoying backup feature off?

defaults write com.apple.logic.pro MaxBackupsToKeep 0
But I can't see exactly how or where to do this.
Open the Terminal application. Type the command above and press return.
Note that setting it to 0 *does not* turn it off, it gives you one autobackup next to the song file, rather than creating an auto backup folder and putting the backups in there.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
PowerPC applications are unsupported in newer versions. You can upgrade Photoshop or you can install Snow Leopard in a partition.
    1. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and select your drive
    2. Go to Partitions tab, press + button, create a new partition and press Apply
    3. Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD and reboot pressing C key
    4. Install it in the new partition
    5. If you want to change boot, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select 10.7

No. You must connect your iPad to a computer (it does not have to be yours) in order to restore it to factory settings.
Once you're home, you can restore it from a backup.
Any content that you did not backup has been lost.

  • I have a pre-App Store version of Logic. Is there any way I can switch over to the App Store version?

I'm trying to install Logic Pro on my new MacBook Air, and without a drive, it's going to take more work to install. I own the latest version, but I still need the discs to install from. Is there some way I can "upgrade" to the App Store version so installing now, and in the future, is easy to do without an external drive?
    Thanks so much!

    In addition to Niel's answer.....
Just wait until the next major version of Logic becomes available (whenever that might be) and then when you pruchase that from the App Store, the issue of there being two different versions of Logic 9, will be over as everyone will have to purchase the new version via the App Store.

  • Is there any way I can find old backups of iTunes itself?

The last time I backed up iTunes was a couple months back, and when I opened it up today all my songs were gone.  I have no idea what happened to them, so is there any way I could restore iTunes to a previous state, if I haven't explicitly backed it up?  I would have used a Windows system restore back to a previous state, but lo and behold, it hadn't been turned on, so I couldn't restore my Windows to a point where my iTunes was still intact (which was just hours before discovering everything was missing)
I'm sort of panicing here; I still have most of the stuff on my iPod Touch, and I guess I could use sharepod or something to get them off of there, but I didn't sync some of the songs onto it (and I would really like all my previous iTunes stuff back). I had about 18 gbs worth (1.7k+) of songs on iTunes too...
    Any help is appreciated!

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • Is there any way i can get the pictures off my iphone 4 if my computer doesnt detect it ?

my computer cannot detect my iphone 4 and my phone is stuck on the charging screen is there anyway i can get my pictures off it ?

What do you mean that your phone is stuck on the charging screen? Have you tried resetting your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Apple appears the device is resetting and the Home screen should display shortly.
    Cheers,

  • I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and now it won't turn on at all, will i lose all of my data, for example my photos and messages etc? and is there any way you can back the phone up without having it switched on?

If you had previously been backing up to iCloud (or a computer with iTunes), you would possibly have a backup.  That said, if you can't turn the phone on, you cannot create a backup of the device now.  Sorry.

  • I recently bought an iPhone 5s from boost mobile I thought service would be decent but it really *****. I'm wondering if there is any way I can switch carriers maybe to us cellular seeing that they recently added new prepaid plans

I recently bought an iPhone 5s from boost mobile I thought service would be decent but it really *****. I'm wondering if there is any way I can switch carriers maybe to us cellular seeing that they recently added new prepaid plans and have good service in my area.  I do know boost operates with sprint but  not sure what I can do because having an expensive phone with crappy service really *****

Sorry, but Boost reportedly does not offer unlocking for iPhones, so you're stuck with them unless you can return the iPhone for a refund and cancel the service, or can sell the iPhone to someone who could use it with Boost.

  • I have switched computers - old one stolen - and lost access to my 800 or so song library. I started a new library. Is there any way I can retrieve my old library and add it to the new one?

I am not very tech oriented - I love my Ipod - had a library of 800- 900 songs - my computer was stolen, I have since bought a new one - started a new library because I could not figure out how to access my old library. Is there any way I can somehow find that original library and add it to my new library??

If these are photos that were synced to your phone, the only way to extract them from your phone is third-party software, like this:

  • My ipad2 will not charge, switch on or connect to itunes is there any way i can do a restore or will this not help anyway?

is there any way i can over ride this?

You can try to place the iPad into recovery mode and see if it will restore. I don't know of anything else that you could try if the iPad is totally unresponsive.
I would let it charge for a while first - even if you have tried to let it charge already. This article explains recovery mode.

The phone will automatically re-appear when it connects to the Internet. However, don't get your hopes up, as thieves know this & will make sure your phone never re-connects so you can locate it.

  • Is there any way I can see which of many "reduce noise" is on a clip?

    Hi Guys
Is there any way I can see which of many "Reduce Noise" actions is on a particular 'shot' from a video clip in my timeline?
I understand that the entire list of Reduce Noise actions I see are all applied to the entire video clip, except in different areas of the same clip, from which I've extracted various shots. I performed different, specific, Reduce Noise actions all on smaller parts of the clip since some Reduce Noise actions needed to be a bit more tailored than others.
Under "Actions" on the left I have a list of approx 10 ticked Reduce Noise actions. Is there any way, by clicking on a clip, I can tell which of these specific Reduce Noise actions apply to that particular area of a clip.
If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it.
    Warm regards
    Peter

You need to explain why it does not work including exact error messages and what version of iphoto the old library is from
the general answer is that you can not view it using iPhoto - you can convert and open it -  if the old library is from iphoto '08 (version 7.x.x) ore earlier you need to back it up and ad and run the iPhoto library upgrader -  iPhoto '11 or later: About the Library Upgrader - Apple Support - If it is from a newer version or after you run the upgrader then held down the option key while launching iPhoto until the select library window comes up and select the old library from that window to finish the conversion
Repeat the option = launch to switch back to the current library
You can use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to merge the libraries after they all are for the same version if you want

Sorry ... I read but was unfortunately distracted from your original post.  You have a system that came with Lion.  The Lion that is on your system is only for your computer and cannot be downloaded from the app store again because you never purchased it officially through the App Store.
Try this for making an external USB/DVD copy of Recovery on an external disk.  internet is still required for reinstall, though, I believe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848.  But at least you have a separate Recovery Partition if you ever need a fully new and empty internal disk.
Your assumption is incorrect. Although he may not be able to download it from the App store he can download it directly for the Apple servers using the recovery partition on his original drive.
All you have to do is start the install routine and then point the install to an external hard drive. Once the download is finished the computer will reboot to start the install. At that reboot disconnect the external drive so the install can not start. Boot the computer back into the OS on the internal hard drive, which is what will happen automatically once the external drive is disconnected. Then connect the external and copy the files from it that were downloaded. Right click on that downloaded package file and select Show contents. In the contents of that package is a file called InstallESD.DMG. Copy that file out of the package and burn it down to a DVD or USB thumb drive and you now have the Full Lion Installer. I have several of them laying around on different hard drives and 2 USB thumb drives which I have used to reinstall Lion on my 15" MBP.
Sorry OP I should of just typed this out in my first post.

  • My computer's default language is spanish. Is there any way i can change safari's language to english?

My computer's default language is spanish. Is there any way i can change safari's language to english?

    Change your OS X language
Your Mac is set to display the language for the country in which you bought the computer. For example, if you bought your Mac in the United States, your Mac is set to English. If you bought your Mac in France, your Mac is set to French. But if you prefer to use a different language, you can.
If you bought your Mac in the U.S. but English isn't your preferred language,
you can switch the language via drag-and-drop.
Open System Preferences and click Language & Text.
    Click the Language tab.
In the Languages pane, drag your preferred language to the top of the list.
To apply the language throughout your system, restart your Mac or log out and log back in.
