Is there any way to change Previews default save location?

I prefer to store all my files locally and have no wish to use iCloud.  Every time I invoke Preview this wretched screen for iCloud pops up asking me to drag my files to it. I don't to do that. I am usually grabbing a selection of the screen and so this window is meaningless and gets in the way.
Secondly when I want to save it defaults to iCloud yet again. If I accidentally save to iCloud I don't see any option to Save As so I can save locally.

Launch a new instance of Preview, and choose File > Open… In the titlebar of this open dialog, there are two choices for file location: iCloud, and On My Mac. Click the On My Mac choice. Now, when you open a document or image, it will look on your local drive first. If you want something from iCloud, you can temporarily switch the open dialog titlebar to iCloud.
Preview wants to save where it last saved, until you change that location. At one time, you saved something to iCloud. Pick any random image or PDF, and open it. Press the option key as you select File > Save As…
In the Save As dialog, the Where: selector likely says iCloud. Press shift+command+H, and iCloud will be replaced by your home directory. Press the triangular indicator (next to the Save As: filename field) so that it faces up. This will give you more detail control on where in your home directory you want future saves placed. When you have the local location resolved, just save the current document there. Preview will remember.
No need to manipulate documents and data in System Preferences > iCloud. I don't.

Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"?
I can change it for one conversation, but then it resets to the default, tiny font.
The preferences menu only lets me change the conversation font.
    (OSX 10.10)

    Hi,
As you may remember there used to be a Messages pane to the Preferences where the Font and colour of the Balloons or background and the Font text colour could be changed.
And there was a Format Menu for character, word and Sentence changes in the current IM or iMessage.
Those have gone in Yosemite's version of Messages (Despite it retaining the designation of Messages 8 the same as Mavericks' version).
All that can be done now is set the size of the font and this has been moved to the General Section of the Preferences.
The Yosemite version has also been fixed to using the Balloons style of send and receiving any type of messages as well.
Changing the Font would involved editing the Balloon.transcript file.

  • Is there any way to change the default AWR thresholds?

    Hi Gurus,
Is there any way to change the default thresholds or attributes of AWR reports for a database?
I have a requirement to change threshold for the SQL statements reported based on sharable memory.
    *"SQL ordered by Sharable Memory"*
By defaults it reports statements only above 1Mb (I think it is in Bytes). So I can find only one statement being reported in this category or some times even nil.
*"Only Statements with Sharable Memory greater than 1048576 are displayed"*
It would be great help for me if you guys can help me out as we have issues related to memory often.
    Thanks and regards

  • HT204135 My printer always defaults to "Scale = 150%" and prints oversized. I always have to set the scale back to "100%". Is there any way to change this default setting?

    Hi
My osX Lion loaded iMac always prints with a default "scale" of "150%" and consequently won't print anything on a single page. I always have to go into "Printer Settings" and change it to "100%" to print properly. Is there any way to set this up to default at "100%"?
    Thanks!

Hi,  just a note that might help.  I notice in baltwo's screen shot of the print dialog, that the Preset titled "Plain paper, best" is selected.
anderdan33316, if you have selected a preset, and that preset was created with the "Scale" set to "150%".  I suspect your issue is related to this.
    for a possible solution,
    1. in Safari, open the Print dialog (by cmd-p, or choosing "Print..." from the File menu, either way works).
      2. in the dialog, manually set the Scale to 100%
      3. in the "Presets:" pull-down menu, select "Save Current Settings as Preset..."
      4. enter a label that is meaningful to you, such as "Standard", "Basic", "Default" - it can be modified later
      5. print that page from that dialog, and the customized Preset will be one of your choices until you decide to delete it.
    hope this helps,

  • Is there any way to change the default icon of opera in the taskbar?

It doesn't use the icon of the theme, and seems it use an ugly xpm picture. Anyway, if it doesn't have such glitch, I will not complain about it.
Placing another /usr/share/pixmaps/opera.xpm doesn't help. (I edit the xpm file and it's array name to logo3232_xpm.)
Or is there any way to do a icon map?(map the specific program to specific icon)
I'm using kde4 and smooth tasks.
    Thank you for your help!

Well the .desktop file is going to tell the system what icon to use.  Do a:
pacman -Ql opera | grep "/usr/share/applications"
and you should see it.  Hmm, if you edited the icon in place it should work, but not if you changed the name.  Look in the desktop file and be sure that the one you are editing is the one you need to change.

  • Is there any way to change the default folder for new finder windows...

...Or even set a different folder as the "home folder"?
I am recovering from an incredibly messy archive and install which refused to allow me to save my old user accounts, instead moving them all into "Previous Systems". In my haste to get the machine working again I just dragged and dropped my old home folder into the /users/ directory and changed the "short name" of the new account to match it. IT worked, but now I have an incredibly irritating problem. That is now indeed my home folder, as appears in the sidebar of all finder windows, albeit under my new short name instead of my old one. All my documents in iWeb, Garageband, etc are working now and default to the new folder.
However, Finder has not recognized this, and every time I open a new Finder window or anything like that it defaults to the home folder created by the reinstall, which is now locked to this account (so all the folders have a red no entry sign on them). I would very much like to tell Finder to ignore this now defunct folder and default to my actual home folder instead - is there a way to do this without actually moving or changing any folders? Like a preference setting somewhere? I know there's the "Advanced Options" pane in Leopard but I've been completely unable to find anything like it in Tiger

  • Is there any way to set the default for *.doc document so that Pages opens them automatically?

I have a number of Ms Word documents because I used to have Word for Mac before the last OS release.  Now, of course, when I double-click on them, I get a message saying that PowerPC isn't supported.
Now Pages will open these files.  Is there any way to change the default for *.doc files so that a double-click will open them in Pages?
(Instead of me going to the trouble of finding out where they are actually located on the hard drive so that I can open pages and say - here, open this file--even though you didn't create it--)

Click on a .doc file and type Cmnd I to open Get Info. In the Open with: menu select Pages, then click on Change All…

  • Apple Mail, is there a way to change the default time-out?

This has been puzzling me for some time and I have not found a solution. The problem which I also posted in the Mail forum (though I think that if there is a positive answer it will come through here) is as follows:
I have an email account with on my company's mail server which is actually a Novell Netware server with a POP3 service. When using mail to send mail, I have no problems. When using mail to recieve mail, well, sometimes it gets the mail, and sometimes it does not. Usually, I can recieve mail for two or three weeks then it just stops working. No changes to my system, no updates or anything, I recieve email at one point in the day and then 15 minutes later - nothing. In the Activity Monitor, I see "Connecting to ..." then "Sending Password" then "Checking for Messages", then (after a while) it beeps as if it did not find any messages to download (no error!).
Some weeks later, after suffering with webmail, suddenly, it works again. This usually coincides with maintenance on the server, but not always. It also seems to correspond with a general improvement of the server performance. But eventually, the cycle starts over again with mail suddenly not able to find any new messages for that account.
I use dial-up at home, ethernet LAN at work, and DSL at our satellite offices. When it works on one it works on all. Also note that my other email accounts (not in any way connected to my company) work as they should at all times and in each setting.
Is it possible that mail simply times out before the messages are discovered. The Novell server used for mail is by no means known for its performance. If so, is there anyway to change the default timeout in mail for "Checking for Messages"?
    Things I have tried:
I have dumped the "MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded" and "MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2" files to no avail.
I have changed computers (I recently upgraded from a ti400), reinstalled the OS, upgraded from 10.2.8 to 10.3.x to 10.4.3, and removed and recreated the mail account (multiple times), all to no avail.
Based on the above observations, I feel that it may be that "Mail's" "Get-mail" function is timing out before new messages are discovered on a very slow server. Is there any way to change the default time-out to evaluate this hypothesis?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Kraig

I already thought of that one.  I deleted my account from there.  But it didn't default to the other one.  It just told me I needed to add an account.  Thanks tho

  • Is there any way to change literals from double to single quotes?

I'm converting a small application in C# / .net that runs on several other databases to HANA.
The escaped double quote thing is pretty painful - is there any way to change the default literals from double to single quote on the connection or though the driver or otherwise?

  • Changing Airdrop Default Save Location

    Hello All,
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Simple question...
There has to be a way to change the default save location of AirDrop. Has anyone stumbled across this?
    ~ lbcSSA

    Hi Jeffrey,
your solution is nice for people who don't care about spoiling their system disk, which I agree must be numerous today.
But would you possibly have another suggestion to avoid documents sent via Airdrop to end up at all on the System disk ? I mean, just as one can do it for the Safari or Mail downloads, where you can define a default folder located on a different hard disk ? I'm with a MacPro, and System disk is intended only for... system, not files, so to avoid fragmentations issues from multiple erase actions of unnecessary files.
Is it possible that Apple writes "default folder" and forgot that "default" means one can opt for an alternative solution ??? Has Apple gone that un-professional ? Please tell me I've just missed a line somewhere... and that I don't have to rely once more on a third party app...
    Cheers !

  • Want to change the default save location- users have networked home dirs

I am doing some work for a school which is still using iMovie HD because it allows them to save their movie projects wherever they want. The issue is that iMovie 08 and 09 do not allow you to change the location in which they save their movies. Currently all users/students have network home folders, so their home directory, documents, etc all pull across the network. All students are limited to 1GB of space, and the system is an older G4 Server- 2GHz with 1GB of RAM and 2x 500GB hard drives. Since the students can make some large projects transferring that data back and forth can kill the server. Currently they are staying with iMovie HD so they can save it to the local hard drive, and when the student comes back in for class they sit at the same machine- thus giving them access to their stored movie files.
This summer they plan to upgrade both Xserves, but again internal storage in the Xserve is a joke and in my opinion not planned out properly. Which might require them to use one of the Apple Promise RAID units- major financial burden on a school.
I wanted to see if there was a way to change the default save location for iMovie 08 or 09 to the local storage rather then the "Home" folder for each user.
    Thanks so much!

    wrong info.
iM08/09 has a different file concept than iMHD6.
Both versions allow to store Events (=huge files) 'anywhere' to usb or firewire connected, hfs(+) formatted harddrives. the Project files (=small files) can be de-located from 'internal' drive with vers09, for 08 you have to use a socalled symLink to de-locate Project files.
