Is there any way to connect an iPod nano (Fifth Generation) to an older Mac

I am looking to get a new iPod nano to replace my Mum's Third Generation iPod. However, she has an older iMac G4 with USB 1.1 ports. Is it possible to make the iPod nano work on this machine? Is it possible to get an adaptor to connect the device to either the FireWire or Ethernet port? Or can the iPod be fooled into thinking the USB 1.1 port is actually a USB 2.0 port? She really doesn't care if syncing is slow.

There are no adaptors to convert from USB to Firewire.
Syncing might not only be slow, it could time out so you may need to manually manage the music on her computer and load a small set of songs at a time. You probably will not be able to load movies, etc. and even photos could cause a time out.
Is your Mum's old iMac possibly running Panther (10.3.9). If it is she won't be able to use the 5th Gen Nano at all.

The iPod and iTunes are designed so that you cannot transfer music on an iPod to another iTunes Library. This is because the 15,000 songs do not belong to you and you have no legal right to keep them.

You can delete all the songs from your computer and just keep them on the iPod by changing the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos". One major word of caution. If you delete songs from your computer and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem (and that's a very strong possibility). You should reconsider your original idea of investing in an external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up songs you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD. This is from a previous post I did earlier. This also cleans the iPod out without wiping the firmware. Your iPod may not be toast after all.
I was having the same problem as a lot of you where iTunes did not recognize my iPod. Now it does. Here's what I did.
Disclaimer: I am no computer expert, just read ALOT of posts and figured my problem out.
First problem I was having was that my cpu wasn't seeing the iPod as a mass storage device or iPod, just "removable disc". This was due to having my usb printer on. It was hogging resources I guess.
Still didn't work in iTunes and locked it up. Reset using the iPod (whre the Apple logo comes up and have to select language initial screen)
My problem included the following:
When I looked at the "about" list on the iPod it said "Songs: 0, Capacity: 0, Format Unknown". Nothing there so the computer wouldn't read it I guess. When I right clicked in My computer/J:removable disk and got to the list with "properties" (took a while but it finally came up) it said the format was RAW, and there were 0 bytes on the iPod.
This is the fix. On the same menu(removable disk - right click) there is selection called "Format..". Hit that and it should bring up a window to format the drive. Make sure it's set on "default Setting - or something like that", FAT32 and that the "Quick Format" is unchecked. Hit format and wait for it to finish.
After I did this the computer shows the iPod and iTunes recognizes it and off I went on re-syncing all of the music in my playlist.
Oh, and it did NOT delete the firmware in case you were worried like I was about that.

My iPad is disabled because of a Bluetooth mishap (my keyboard in my coat pocket tried to enter my password too many times). So I can't enter my password on the screen. Unfortunately I didn't back up the last few weeks of documents in any way, via either iCloud or syncing. And I just can't erase all the work I've done--it's irreplaceable to me.
Is there any way to connect the iPad to a WiFi network through external software, maybe using the lightning connector?
I ask because in iCloud I marked the iPad as Lost (in Find My iPhone), so I may get another chance at entering my password if the iPad can get online to receive the signal. But because it's disabled it won't connect to a network.

I connect an XBox 360 to my LED Cinema display with the Belkin AV360 Mini DisplayPort Converter. I can't imagine why it wouldn't work with the Apple TV. It is limited to 720p, however.
