Is there any way to open a file with a .msi extension on my new mac?

I have Camtasia from the pc I was using. It has a .msi file extension for the installation file. Is there any way to open the Camtasia installation file with the .msi extension on my new Mac?

That's a Microsoft program which requires Windows. You could run on your Mac if you install Windows on it.
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

And it say it can support AVCHD videos.
VLC also support it for watching the video and anyway Quicktime X is useless with many codecs.
Check again to import files in FCPX as i can't test i don't have any .mts files.

I have a CSV file with more than 255 columns of data. It's a fairly standard export of social media data that shows volume of posts by day for the past year, from which I can analyze the data and publish customized charts. Very easy in Excel but I'm hitting the Numbers limit of 255 columns per table. Is there a way to work around the limitation? Perhaps splitting the CSV in two? The data shows up in the CSV file when I open via TextEdit, so it's there. Just can't access it in Numbers. And it's not very usable/useful for me in TextEdit.

You might be better off with Excel. Even if you could find a way to easily split the CSV file into two tables, it would be two tables when you want only one. You said you want to make charts from this data. While a series on a chart can be constructed from data in two different tables, to do so takes a few extra steps for each series on the chart.
For a test to see if you want to proceed, make two small tables with data spanning the tables and make a chart from that data. Make the chart the normal way using the data in the first table then repeat the following steps for each series
Select the series in the chart
Go to Format sidebar
Click in the "Value" box
Add a comma then select the data for this series from the second chart
Press Return
If there is an easier way to do this, maybe someone else will chime in with that info.

Got a wp doc. made back in 1989 - 90 with a Mac SEII, about 70 pages long. Is there any way to translate this and get it into Pages on my new Mac without owning old machines and operating systems to see what i wrote as the Berlin wall was coming down?

I've got a document , some 70 pages long that was made back in the late '80's with Pagemaker on an SEII mac. The docs are on 2 floppies, but I can't open them, because I can't find any application that can read the files. I've got other documents that go back to 1984, when I bought my first Mac, that I can't open, either. I'd like to be able to get these files into Pages and send them out to family once again. Any recommendations?

No other application can open PageMaker files, only PageMaker. You'd need a copy of PageMaker (and license) and a Mac of ancient vintage, one with a floppy drive. The ancient Mac is needed not just to read the floppied but to run PageMaker which won't run on modern Macs.
Frankly, if you have a paper copy, scan it and start from that!

Our ad department has recently upgraded their windows PCs, and it seems the new default for Excel to save is .xlsb (excel binary workbook). Is there any way to open this in Numbers, or is my only answer to go over to them again and again, to get them to resave in .xls or .xlsx?

Ask them to resave as .xls
If they are polite enough, I'm quite sure that they may change their default format to .xls.

now develop a server using ServerSocket and connect it in local IP and any PORT
For example i think ur server is connected in "localhost" and 9000 port.
Now make ur server educated using some commands.

Is there any way to get .wav files to play on iOS devices? I know some apps can play .wav however I was looking to have safari load a suitable player as needed, but it shows a audio file with a line across it... and does not play the file. Any workaround? Thanks,

That is very helpful, thanks. However, that ends up presenting two other problems...
Initially, the original .wav file has to be downloaded somewhere, how does one download a file from Safari to the phone and then open the file with the app? Is there any way to configure iOS to always use an app for a particular file type? How does iOS handle file types? Do you know why safari does not allow add-ons? Can I configure another app as the 'default' browser?

It's legit. There are lots of links in Apple Support Communities to the LibreOffice web site, as well as others that are legitimate open-source developers of options to buying MS Office, such as NeoOffice and OpenOffice. I have Open Office installed on one of my older Macs that can't run Office 2011 and it is rock-solid.

The important information that I do not see mentioned nor offered by you.
1.What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system it is running? What version of Premiere Pro do you want to use?
The Premiere Pro Import Supported Formats seem to indicate that it will accept the Premiere Elements project.prel (project file) on Windows Only.

This may or may not be possible depending on damaged projects or outdated elements.
2. If you want to export your Premiere Elements Timeline to a file saved to the computer hard drive and subsequently import that into your Premiere Pro version, that "should" work. You would go to the Premiere Elements Publish+Share/Computer/ and make a selection based on what the Premiere Pro Import Supported file formats are and what you need. I can help you with that. But, details first.
But, just a "beware"...when you get to Premiere Elements 11 or 12 (if that is the version involved) Publish+Share/Computer/ there are several categories, but all you see is Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, and AVCHD. The rest of the list that includes AVI and QuickTime which both need to be scrolled to all of the time to see them, not just sometimes, with the thin scroll bar to the right of the list of choices. You can export files
with AVI file extension, under Publish+Share/Computer/AVI
with MOV file extension, under Publish + Share/Computer/QuickTime
And, if you do not have QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements, you are not going to have presets for the QuickTime export.
Remember, there is more to an export than just its file extension. Know your other export properties as well.
In many cases, you can customize the export settings to suit your requirements.
Problems will exist if you are trying to go from Premiere Elements Windows to Premiere Pro Mac or vice versa.
I would be glad for the opportunity to help you with this issue, but details are needed.

Maybe you can let her play on your computer where it may be easier to restrict what she can do, provided there's an OS X equivalent. Of course supervision is probably the safest solution until she is old enough to understand she shouldn't do anything that's not permitted. What version of the Mac OS X are you running. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac and post the version.

You will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb ’09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like “www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb ’08 you can publish your website to a local folder
