Is there any way to save a library from an old device after it's shown up using home sharing to a new device?

Just as the title says. I don't want to use a USB stick to transfer every single song so that it'll save on my new laptop's iTunes. I think Home Sharing only works at home, right? So if I bring my laptop anywhere, then I don't have any of my music anymore.

Hi Kokomeeps,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
You can actually import the music from one iTunes library on a computer to another using Home Sharing and all of your music will actually be located on both machines. Please use the following article as a guide to set up Home Sharing to import your music from one computer to another.

    Technical issues aside, there's still a legal issue.
    Neither 2006 nor 2007 MacBooks shipped with Snow Leopard 'factory' installed. OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard became available in September 2009. So you purchased and installed a Snow Leopard upgrade disc on the 2007 system at some point.
    If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a single-user copy, then legally, you need to purchase another one for the second computer. If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a Family Pack 5-user license, then you're good to go.

    If you have an active MobileMe account, Apple was giving away a single-user upgrade copy of Snow Leopard for a limited time, and you should have received an email with a link, or been offered the opportunity when you signed in to your MobileMe account on the web:

    Worst case, single-user Snow Leopard upgrade discs are $29 retail, direct from Apple. I'd hate to have two computers and no OS installation CD's for whatever version I'm currently using.

  • Is there any way to save an image from a nested movieclip as a .png using PNGEncoder

    Hello all,
    I am new to AIR and AS3 and I am developing a small AIR desktop application in Flash CS5 that saves a user generated image locally to their computer.
    The image is generated from a series of user choices based on .png files that are loaded dynamically into a series of nested movieclips via XML.  The final image is constructed by a series of these "user choices".
    Sourcing alot of code examples from here and there, I have managed to build a "working" example of the application.  I am able to "draw" the parent movieclip to which all the other dynamic movieclips reside and can then encode it using PNGEncoder.  The problem is that the images loaded dynamically into the nested movieclips show as blank in the final .png generated by the user.
    Is there a way to "draw" and encode these nested movieclips or do I need to find another way?  I can provide my clumsy code if required but would like to know if this concept is viable before moving any further.....
    Thanks in advance....

    Thanks for the files.......
    Yeah I'm doing it in Flash but importing the images via an xml document.  The problem isn't in being able to view the eyes (based on the selection of the user) its when I go to save the resulting image as a .png.  When I open up the saved .png the eyes are blank even though they are visible in the swf
    Even when the user clicks on the option to copy the image to the clipboard, it works as intended.
    My only guess is there is an issue with the way my xml is loading (but this appears to work fine) or when the file is converted and saved.....
    As I said I'm still learning but surely there must be a simple answer to this....
    I have included the xml code I am using and also the save code to see if anyone spots an issue..... (I hope I copied it all)
    // XML
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.net.URLLoader;
    var xmlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("imageData.xml");
    var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(xmlRequest);
    var imgData:XML;
    var imageLoader:Loader;
    var imgNum:Number = 0;
    var numberOfChildren:Number;
    function packaged():void
    rawImage = imgData.image[imgNum].imgURL;
    numberOfChildren = imgData.*.length();
    imageLoader = new Loader  ;
    imageLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadedImage);
    imageLoader.load(new URLRequest(rawImage));
    faceBG_mc.Eyes.addChild(imageLoader);
    function loadedImage(event:Event):void
    imageLoader.x = -186;
    imageLoader.y = -94;
    imageLoader.width = 373;
    imageLoader.height = 186;
    //  Clipboard
    btn_Copy.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onCopyClick);
    function onCopyClick(event:MouseEvent):void
    var bd:BitmapData = renderBitmapData();
    Clipboard.generalClipboard.setData(ClipboardFormats.BITMAP_FORMAT, bd);
    function renderBitmapData():BitmapData
    var bd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(faceBG_mc.width,faceBG_mc.height);
    bd.draw(faceBG_mc);
    return bd;
    // Save faceBG_mc as .png
    var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
    var myBitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData (faceBG_mc.width,faceBG_mc.height, true, 0);
    myBitmapData.draw(faceBG_mc);
    var myPNG:ByteArray = PNGEncoder.encode(myBitmapData);
    function onSaveClickPNG(e:Event)
    fileRef.save(myPNG, "myPNG.png");
    So my problem is....
    The final image is copied to the clipboard with the eyes visible - yes
    The eyes appear in the image in the swf as intended - yes
    When the image is saved as a .png and is meant to include the eyes, they are blank (see picture above)
    I hope this helps.....
    Thanks in advance

  • Is there any way to retrieve my contacts from the iPhone 3G, after I imported my contacts to my sim card within the settings, mail

    Is there a way to retrieve my contacts back into my 3G iPhone?
    I was trying to save my contacts by importing my contacts to my sim card by going into settings, mail-contacts and then hit the Import SIM Contacts.

  • Is there a way to remove a page from my old iwebsite after I upgraded to iCloud?

    I already "upgraded" from MobileMe to iCloud. Before I did that I wanted to reduce my iWebsite to just 1 page, so I made the changes with iWeb and after the new (final version) of my site was up and confirmed, I made the switch to iCloud. HOWEVER, I was disappointed to learn that old pages that had been part of my site before were STILL up on the website, even though I republished the replacement site. I want to take down 1 page in particular that has wrong information. But since my MobileMe is now defunct, iWeb does not work anymore. Is there a way to FTP or use iWeb to make another website change after you have moved on to iCloud?
    I hate it that the old page is still up, even though I went through steps to take it down. Gee.
    Let me clarify how the page in question is listed as far as URL. (I am not going to post the exact URL due to my desire for privacy -- why I wanted to remove the page in the first place). The page I want to take down is like this (my account name for the site in question is different though):
       http://web.me.com/jane.doe/Family/Welcome.html
    But before leaving MobileMe I changed the name of the site from "Family" to "Home" so now the homepage URL is:
    http://web.me.com/jane.doe/Home/.html
    I guess because I changed the name of the hompage it did not replace the original file. So there are actually two homepages that can both be accessed with the above URLs even though the original one was deleted from within iWeb and replaced by the latter. I have checked the "artifact" page from other machines and confirmed it is not just something in my browser cache. It is still up there in spite of effort and good intentions to remove it. Unfortunately, I did not realize that until after I moved on to iCloud.
    Does anyone know a workaround? Or if Apple will take it down for me before MobileMe officially dies? Or if it will be taken down then? I really do not want that particular page upan another day, much less forever. I would be happy if the whole site were gone.

    You need to log out of iCloud and login to MobileMe. Then you can publish changes as usual.
    In the future you can publish your site via the iWeb FTP or to a local folder...

    and set up new hosting...

  • Any way to restore iTunes library from iPod?

    I lost a hard drive on my labtop and had to re-install the iPod and iTunes programs after getting a new disk. Now the iTunes library is empty and would not recognize the old iPod and want to erase all its contents. Is there any way to restore the library from iPod to my laptop (a Compaq running Windows XP)? The Apple site says I can reverse sync up to five computers with the songs purchases from iStore, but I can't figure out where are the buttons either on the iTunes or the iPod. For the experts out there please help!
    Kirkbrook in Cupertino

    Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
    Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
    The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described for instance also it won't transfer playlists. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
    If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

    I purchased some movies off iTunes from my account (but from my father IPad) to download as a gift,
    but didn't realize he can not view if not logged in with my account.
    Is there any way to save directly to the IPad (regardless of account) so he can view?
    Or transfer to his account?
    Or is any was to cancel the recent purchase if can not transfer as I will not watch these myself?

    sure pretty simple.  make a backup of your current settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
    then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
    then import pics to computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
    you may need to save pics to camera roll first
    then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes

  • My contacts are organized in different groups. An iPhone trade show app (Vinexpo) displays exhibitors infos and allows to create new contacts. Is there any way to save a new contact in a specified group instead of the contacts root? Thks in advance

    My contacts on my iPhone are organized in different groups. I have downloaded a trade show app which gives infos on the exhibitors of the show. It offers to create new contacts from these info. Is there any way to save these new contacts in a specified group instead of putting them into the contacts root, where they are mixed with all the old ones? By the way, can we create a new contacts group directly from the IPhone, without having to go through the sync process with the PC?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Sorry, I forgot to bookmark the thread where the app was mentioned, but searching for "group" or "contacts" should bring a few results in the AppStore.

    One of the folders on my external hard drive has transformed into a unix executable file and I can no longer access my files. Is there any way to save the data?

    Wow, have seen Files do that, but a whole Folder as I recall!
    Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

    I reinstalled windows  and wiped out everything. Is there any way to retrieve my library or at least my purchases??

    It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
    Certainly you did not reinstall you os without making sure your backup copy was up to date.
    Just use your backup copy to put everything back.
    If for some reason you failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  File>transfer Purchases.
    If you are in the U.S, then you can use the newly released Beta version of icloud to retrieve them.  open itunes store, click Purchased under Quick Links.
    ALWAYS maintaining a backup is very important.
