I don't know that there is a way to save my huge music library without saving it to an external hard drive and then loading it to a new one (does the iPad have a port to plug an external hard drive into?)

First, you would need to make a backup of the entire iTunes folder on the PC. You could get music to the iPad if the PC was still functioning, or you would have to move the music to another computer. An iPad is not a laptop, and does not have a port to plug an external drive into. You can sync music to the iPad from the computer, but you are correct, unless you get iTunes Match, you would need a computer to copy the music to and then sync to an iPad.

1) Open Itunes on your computer
2) Cick on "store"
3) If you are not signed into your iTunes Account, using the "sign in" tab under the left hand side of the menu bar
4) Click on "account" under your account name on the left hand side of the menu bar
5) Go down to "settings" and click on Pre-orders. Anything (for me books) that you have pre-ordered will be listed there. Hope this helps.

Is there any way I can download my iTunes purchases, specificlly my in app purchases? I have hundres of purchases, and need to copy some (maybe 150+) of the order numbers. iTunes does not allow me to copy and paste the order number, and with the complicated order numbers given such as MGFLH5BB9M, they are not the easiest to remember.

I've set up itunes Match and it's working fine. I've noticed that on my PC, my original itunes library, there are a few albums that are of lower bit rate than Apple's 256. If I download them to my iphone or ipad, I get the higher bit rate, from itunes. Is there any way to download them at the higher bit rate to my original itunes library on my PC? I do have the original CD's but just wondered if it can be done without climbing into the loft to find them.

First thing you should do is make sure the songs are "matched" in your iTunes library by turning on the iCloud Status column in the iTunes browser. Pull down View > View Options and select "iCloud Status" and click OK.
Once you've done this you can see if your lower bit-rate tracks are "matched." If they are, the delete it from your iTunes library, but not iCloud, and click the "download" button next to to the track to download it to your local library.

You might want to consider extending the lifespan of your G5 by using a different operating system. I put [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubuntu Lubuntu] on a G5 recently and it runs the newest Firefox just fine. Lubuntu (pronounced Loo-boon-two) is sort of an Ubuntu lite - a user-friendly version of Linux. There are many applications to choose from, and it's all free.
The PowerPC I did this on was one of the old Bondi Blue ones. Firefox had no problem running on it at all and has all plug-ins needed for video, audio, etc.. I gave it to a church and it's running fine for them.
You can download old versions of Firefox, but you'll just open yourself up to security problems if you do.
FYI: The Mac operating system is built on Linux.
