Is there anyway to Edit in Photoshop as a JPG image

When clicking on Edit in Photoshop, the only format options seem to be PSD or TIFF for transfer to Ps.  Is there a way to specify that the images be converted to JPG and then transferred to Ps for editing?
I know that I can do a "normal" export as JPG and then open Ps to edit but that does not automatically return the edited images to Lr in the same directory (folder) that they were stored in.
Thanks

Thanks.  Here is the situation and the solutions I came up with.  I needed to make some text and other additions that cannot be done in Lr but send the image in JPG format.
Solution 1 - export the image as JPG to the same directory the RAW image is in and sync the folder.  Then select the image and edit in Ps to add the text and other embellishments and save the image from Ps.
Solution 2 - edit in Ps, add the text and other embellishments and then export as JPG from Lr.
I choose #2 as the way to go.
You were exactly right in your response, that is why I marked it as answered, but there are times when it might be useful to directly convert to JPG and edit in Ps in a single operation for the example I cited above.
Thanks again.

  • Is there anyway to edit the names of the Variables/Tags listed in the .IAK file

I have an .IAK file that has several (about 130) different fieldpoint devices in it and each device has about 90 variables names listed.  I have modified all the names in order to shorten them and standardize/nomalize the variable names.  I would like to be able to just rename the variables in the IAK file, instead of going to each device, connect, 'find devices' in MAX, Save the IAK File (which takes about 10min each) and then drive to the next device and repeat the process 130 times.  I've seen programs that let you view the IAK file, just wondering if the IAK can be edited programmatically.

The reason is the IAK file has ALL 130+ fieldpoint devices listed, with approx 85 tags per FP, and I have to get the tag information from each site, then I have to copy that file to the server and reload the server.  If (like what happened yesterday) there is a problem saving the .IAK file or the .IAK file gets corrupted, I have to go back to ALL 130+ FP devices and get the information again.  Also, with that many FP stations in the IAK file, it takes a considerable amount of time per save (approx 10min).  On the server, I get the data from these FP devices through OPC that uses the .IAK file.  It's really not an idea situation, but it's what I have to work with.
If it can't be done, it can't be done.  I would think that the file has to be saved in some format, granted probably some proprietary NI format, but if I knew the format, I could write a program to edit it, unless it's also compressed in some propritary NI format.

  • Is there anyway to edit gapless playback info in iTunes 11?

I know that one of the many bizzare and ridiculous changes in iTunes 11 is that they removed gapless playback options, which I just REALLY can't understand why they'd do.
So I'm just wondering if there is any way through something 3rd party or anything that I can edit gapless playback settings?
    Thanks in advance!

No, you have the web site version because this applies:

  • LR2.2 to edit in Photoshop CS4 yield lighter images in PS

I notice a problem since upgrading to PS CS4 from PS CS3, that when I select Edit in PS CS4 from within LR 2.1, the image that opens in PS is noticeably lighter by about one stop. I get the same result if I edit as smart object or as a TIF. If I make no changes within PS but just save the TIF file and then go back to LR, the new TIF saved from within PS and the original CR2 (or DNG) file appear to be at the same exposure when viewed inside LR2.1. I was hoping that upgrading to LR2.2 would fix the problem, but it has not. It is exactly the same.
I've checked all of my LR and PS settings and preferences and there is not additional processing that is being done when I edit in PS. It's really strange.
My monitor, an Eizo ColorEdge CE240W, is properly calibrated. I'm running a MacPro 8 core with Leopard 10.5.6.
I have exactly the same software and settings installed on my MacBookPro 15" but I do not have the problem there.
I tried uninstalling PS-CS4, deleting PS and LR preferences and reinstalling PS-CS4 to no avail. I did not have this problem with previous versions of LR and PS.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Lr 5.5 edit in Photoshop  CC 2014 - Images do not open

Selecting Edit in Photoshop 2014 on an image in Lr opens Photoshop CC 2014 but the image is not displayed.
    If I select an image and select Open as Smart Object in Photoshop the image does open as as Smart Object but editing and then saving brings this error;
    Error 2: Photoshop is undefined
    Line: 1
    ->  photoshop.notifyLightroomDocSaved ('lightroom-2.0', 'E8D76F76-4AE5-4472-A7D3-0E3576BFD15B', 'Macintosh HD:Users:peterrhawkes:Pictures:Lightroom:Mobile Downloads.lrdata:6959b167a59aeb71e30bca65b3b2eb1f4d6d936f79e42399a777ef8329e04a7d:IMG_079 6-Edit-0009.psd');
Pulling my hair out as PS is now unusable with Lr and cannot see a way of going back and reinstalling Photoshop CC - is there a known cure for this?!

    Went to the link and looked at the Install section and followed this;
Open the Creative Cloud app, and go to the Apps panel.
Filter the apps by Previous Versions.
Choose a version from the Install menu.
I installed Photoshop CC and set this up as my alternative edit program in Lr and it works!!
    Thank you!

  • Lightroom 3's "edit in photoshop CS4" does not preserve "detail" values

    Hi all,
I am giving lightroom 3 a try (finally...), but noticed that when I have an image to which I have applied "detail" adjustments to reduce luminescence and color noise, using "edit in Photoshop CS4" opens the image without the detail adjustments applied. I don't see the option to pick whether to edit "the image" or "the image with lightroom settings" anywhere, and I'm scratching my head trying to find an option in the preferences (both LR and Catalog prefs) that lets me pick "edit with lightroom settings applied".
    It's a bit useless this way =/
Does anyone know how to make "edit in ..." for lightroom 3 always apply the image corrections to the edit copy?

I had been looking for that option, turns out the only way to get it back was to reset all warning dialogs. After telling LR to render with lightroom, things look great again.
    Thanks!

  • Editing in Photoshop from Lightroom

Tried to "edit in" Photoshop from a Lightroom image and the application is not working.  It has in the past. What can I do to fix it?

Same issue here.  IT opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.
I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1  Lightroom is version 5.7  Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4
FWIW, I also can't automate>Photomerge ... . Makes me think Photoshop, not Lightroom, is all wacky. I tried dumping PS preferences

  • JPEG edited in Photoshop query

I have a jpeg photo taken with a digital camera. The problem is that it appears different depending on what software I view it with. When I view it in Windows explorer / Windows picture and fax viewer, the colours appear very bright. When I view the same image in other software such as ms paint or firefox, the colours appear much duller. Originally I thought this photo was the original from the camera but after looking at the Exif data it showed that the image had been edited in Adobe Photoshop. I don't know how the image was edited in photoshop. A raw image directly from the camera does not have the same problem - it looks the same in windows viewer and other software.
What could have happened to this jpeg in photoshop that would cause the colours to look brighter in windows viewer but not other software? Sure a jpeg is a jpeg and should look the same in all viewers?

Enabling color management only affects you. You cannot control the browser settings of others that view your image online.
Ideally, you should convert your image to sRGB in Photoshop. sRGB is the basic colorspace used by non-color-managed apps. This means a sRGB image should look the same whether it is viewed in Photoshop or Windows picture and fax viewer.

  • Incorrect size when photo edited in photoshop

If I am viewing an image at full screen in iPhoto and then open it for editing in Photoshop, The resulting saved image is the wrong size when it uploads to Flickr. Sometimes, it also appears at the wrong size when viewed in iPhoto as well. Generally, rebuilding thumnails corrects the problem. Likewise, images opened from the iPhoto grid view also do not appear incorrectly. Granted, I just named two work-arounds, but neither is very satisfying. Anyone else have a better idea?

Do you have PSE setup this way in iPhoto?
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Photos does not support external editing like iPhoto. Is there likely to be an upgrade to change this or will I abandon Photos for software that does support editing in Photoshop?

Photos does not support external editing like iPhoto. Is there likely to be an upgrade to change this or will I abandon Photos for software that does support editing in Photoshop?

iPhoto does work and there is an upgrade:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
