Is there anyway to reconnect media in FCPX?

I was given the Project file folder, but the media was in an open folder and not in the original Event one. Every attempt to reconnect the media has failed to work.
It's looking for the files on another computer so reconstructing the folder structure won't work. Reimporting the media and doing a replace edit hasn't worked either because it doesn't know where the in and out points were originally.
Any other ideas on what I could or should be doing to rectify this problem.
Thanks,
Ray

I just did some checking on a similar red icon problem.  If you Control-Click on the red icon that is the clip that's missing, you will see the menu option to Reveal in Finder. Selecting this will pop up a finder window pointing to the "file" the icon uses.  In most cases it will be in the Final Cut Pro Events/Original Media folder.  Also in most cases that "file" will be an alias ("shortcut" in windows terminology).  If you then Control-Click on that file and choose Get Info, you will see not only the folder path to the alias file, but also the folder path that references the actual media file.  That file must be in the original path specified in the alias for the alias to really point to the file that FCP X is looking for.
I know a lot of people are moving files and folders for FCP X using Finder, but, if you think about it, that method would likely mess up these aliases the icons are linked to.  That's why I have seen some instructional videos say that the best way to actually move these events and projects around to different disks is to do so in FCP X.  The drawback is that sometimes you cannot do these edits while background rendering is in progress and must wait until it completes.  I know this is the case with project renames, etc.
Anyway, after I saw what was going on with my own red icons, I simply copied the original media file from where I had moved it (mistakenly using Finder) and put it into the original location.  I then selected the event with the red icon clip in it and did a File Import of that media file again.  Bingo!  It filled in the red icon with the clip and propagated the change to my timeline where the clip was residing in my project.  Problem solved.
Now don't get me wrong, it should simply have a Reconnect Media function, but until then we have to do what we have to do

You can recover it if you have an iCloud or iTunes backup which contains it otherwise it is gone.

  • RECONNECTING MEDIA... ONE AT A TIME ?????

I migrated my I-tunes list from my dual 1.25 G4 to my new MacPro but its didn't automatically connect... I have several hundred songs in my library and have to find and connect a song individually by searching its title.
Is that the only way to do it- one at a time?
Is there anyway to have the whole list re-connect to its appropriate file automatically?
    Thanks

Basically the EDL will decide on the relevant cuts so once that is imported into final cut it's simply the case of connecting up the relevant media files, however the EDL offline timeline has the same naming throughout so each cut in the timeline has the same name but I am able to reconnect all the media gradually by selecting them one by one... Will the EDL have to have the exact name as the media files in order to reconnect all files at once?
    Thanks

  • Reconnecting media after frame rate change

Shane Ross wrote a reply ( see below )  to a person that had the same problem as I am now.
I shot with HVX200 using the Firestore that converted footage to 59.94. Then, mid-project I shot with the P2 which shot at 24. I now have 2 diff. frame rates
I tested some clips in Compressor comverting the 24 to 59.94.
Using FCP Studio 2 , I was unable to reconnect the media without the in/out points being off with varying degrees.  Doing an entire re-edit will be painful.
QUESTION : Do I really have to convert the 24 to 59.94? Would it significantly affect output?
The codec is the same for all footage.  ( DVC PRO HD 720P. )
    THANKS!
[elizabeth charles] "My question is, is there anyway to change the files in my timeline to the conformed files without having to begin my editing again?"
    Nope.
You did a bad thing.  Editing, finishing, then changing the frame rate of your masters.  FCP cannot reconnect to media with differing frame rates.  Because the duration of the footage is different, and the frame rate is different. The footage has the same amount of frames..., but now they play at a different frame rate, so the duration is different. You'll have to re-edit with the new masters.
But...RECONFORM...that changes the frame rate, as well as the speed in which they play.  30fps conformed to 24fps will play in slight slow motion.  If you want the footage to play at a different frame rate, but the same speed...normal speed...you need to use Compressor.
    Shane

gang allows you to lock the viewer and canvas together so when you move one, the other moves the same amount.  To match back your footage, you find a frame with a clear difference from the previous frame, for example when someone blinks.  You then find the blink on the new source file in the viewer and then turn on the gang function It's the center thingamagic at the top of the canvas.  You then jump around the shot in the canvas and make sure the movement in the viewer matches.  you then find the in in the canvas and mark an in in the viewer, etc and replace the shot.  If this isn't clear post back.
In compressor in the frame controls panel, you enable frame controls and set the rate conversion to best.

  • Final Cut Pro refuses to Reconnect Media

I'm just figuring out FCP. I got far enough to import one hundred 9MB image files and cut it all together with music, titles, a FRAPS capture background, and basic motions. I exported an avi and uploaded to YouTube and such. So far, seems dandy.
Since it's on a dedicated machine at the office, I log in. When I came back to work on it some more the next day, FCP said my "media files are offline." I have all my files organized and shared on the LAN, so I figured out to Reconnect Media in chunks across my nine or so bins. I didn't have to reconnect all 100+ files individually. It's 3+ GB worth of data.
Today I log in, I get the ornery expected "offline" business, but for some random reason FCP will not match the filenames en masse anymore. It has decided it's looking for...
    Sketch 74 - Sunday Morn D0.tif
    ...instead of the real filename...
    Sketch 74 - Sunday Morning Restaurant 1-1.tif
FCP seems to have appended sequential HEX values to the filenames. Maybe I enabled some weird logging "feature"? It works as expected if I hard navigate to reconnect one image file.
Anyway, I can't edit a video if I have to reconnect 100 individual media files manually per login. Help?

I have "imported" my media files from across the network. I used the "Import" command and pointed to a network folder. There was difference - I put bins inside of bins to make a cleaner tree structure for myself.
I've begun the process of making my filenames more terse and even more organized. Hopefully I can just do one massive import when I login to work.

How old was this backup? It sounds like it was at least several weeks old.
You can look directly in the TM backup for the music.
    1. Connect to the external HDD the backup is kept on.
    2. Open a Finder window and select the backup drive in the left hand panel. Double click into the folders until you see a list of folders with dates.
These are the incremental backups. You can start at the top or the bottom of the list but I suggest you double Latest/<HDD Name>/Users/<Account Name>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. From this location you can start looking for the "missing" music. When/if you find it you can simply drag-n-drop to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music on the internal HDD.
If the music is actually not in the backups (for whatever reason) then you've got a problem.
You can download the uploaded files from the cloud by deleting the affected tracks from the iTunes library (but not the cloud!), highlighting multiple tracks at once, right-clicking and choosing "download."

  • Can only Reconnect Media one file at a time

I posted this problem almost two months ago, and was told at the time that it was a bug in FCP 6.0 and 6.0.1, but was fixed in 6.0.2. Well, I finally upgraded to 6.0.2, and the problem remains. What is strange, is that after I upgraded, the first two bins of files reconnected correctly, but ever since then none of the others have (and I tried the third bin right after the second, no changes at all to the computer). So I'm having this problem with both my G5 dual 2 gig (OS 10.4.9) and my Intel Macbook Pro (OS 10.4.11). Any ideas? The problem:
I'm trying to relink media I have on an external firewire drive, but when I click Relink, FCP only relinks the first file in my list. The files are all there, in the same location, and have not had any name or reel changes - each one relinks fine individually, but I can't get FCP to link more than 1 file at a time.
Procedures: I select all the files from a certain reel that are listed as being offline, then File>Reconnect Media. All the files I've selected are listed in the top half of the window, with the first file underlined. I have Search Single Location checked. I select Locate (though same thing happens if I select Search and locate the file myself), Show: Video Files (tho same thing happens if I select All Files), I've checked Match Name and Reel Only (though again same thing happens if this is not checked), and I checked Reconnect All Files in Relative Path. FCP finds the first file, and I click "Choose" - and the first file is listed in the bottom part of the window, but only that file.
Everything else in FCP works fine.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I am not having the same issue, and I am running 10.5.2 OS and 6.0.2 FCP. I also have FCP 6.0.2 on a computer running 10.4.11 and I have duplicate media on both systems, and bring a file back and forth and don't have to connect the media one at a time. This was a wide spread problem with 6.0.1, and the 6.0.2 update fixed that for most people. Why you are still having that problem is odd. Try trashing your FCP prefs with FCP RESCUE, and also try repairing your permissions with the Disk Utility.

  • Reconnect Media - Will only do one file at a time. (all files is checked)

I found one Google search that said this may be a bug... http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1047891 and it's really bothering me since I have about 500 more media files to connect.
When I select multiple files in my Project File Browser, right click, hit Reconnect Media... It opens the Reconnect Files window. Then I hit "Locate", navigate to the folder holding the files (Reconnect All files in Relative Path is checked), select the file, confirm, then hit connect... Only one file (the first one selected) reconnects.
It's worse than that for me, now the file is Connected in my Project File browser, but it still doesn't reconnect in my sequences. So now I have to go in the sequence and right click on the individual clips, and manually reconnect those as well.
At this point it take 6 plus clicks per file missing, times two because I have to reconnect these clips in the sequences as well... times 500 because that's how many offline files I have.
My lord, I've already done this to half of the project, I can't do it any more... where am I going wrong or is this a bug? If so, please tell me there is a workaround.
The file I'm working in is a feature film, so it's huge... I can't start over at this point.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Monty

The only multiple files it will reconnect are the ones that are already connected.
I hope I figured it out but need more advice. It may be that the files that won't connect do not have a visible file extension ".mov". How can I get these files to shoe ".mov" at the end of their names without manually renaming them all?
And the reason this is happening is I was using reference files to edit a movie, now I've been given new hard drives with the final uncompressed footage but same file names for each clip... plus the new hard drives I'm using have different names.
    Thanks for your time!

  • After updating iOS on my iPod touch 4th gen my Philips speaker dock DC290B/37 no longer charges the iPod.  It will play music but not charge, is there anyway to find out if Apple is working on an update/fix?

after updating iOS on my iPod touch 4th gen my Philips speaker dock DC290B/37 no longer charges the iPod.  It will play music but not charge, is there anyway to find out if Apple is working on an update/fix?

    Try:
    - Reset the dock
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Otherwise you are out of luck. Apple is not making any more update for the 4G.
Also check with Phillips. Maybe they have an firmware update available

  • Is there anyway to use your best buy credit card online before receiving it?

I know if you haven't received the card yet in the mail you can still use it in store by giving an employee your information. But is there anyway to use it online to make a purchase?

    Good morning Seniorfarts,
It's great to hear that you are either considering or have already applied and been approved for a My Best Buy credit card! It is my understanding that you would have one opportunity immediately after being approved for the credit card online to use it. Outside of this browser session, I believe you would need to wait for the arrival of the physical card. Sadly, this means if you apply and are approved in store, you would not be able to use the card online until you receive it.
I hope this helps! Please let us know if you should have any other questions.

  • Reconnecting media for entire project

I have had to clean up a very messy project by moving all the media to new drives with one Capture Scratch folder on each. I'm wondering if there is a particular way the media should be reconnected.
Would I start reconnecting the media from bins of clips? Or reconnect the media from sequences? Or would I simply highlight everything in my browser and then start reconnecting media.
Thanks in advance. This has been a crazy process and prompt responses from other users has really helped. Again, I hope we can all make it clear to Apple that they should push fixing their media management to the top of their priority list. I make this clear on every tech support call.
    Loch

If there is the possibility of media corruption (or sequence corruption, for that matter), reconnecting from your main sequence might be beneficial.
In the past, I've discovered clips (stills, usually) that have gone wonky on me by reconnecting one-by-one from a sequence.
If there is no question of media corruption (it's simply that the project is too bloated, for instance) then you can probably make do with connecting from your bins.

  • Is there anyway to put a lock on iphoto?

I want to put a password lock but only on my Iphoto- is there anyway to do this?

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you want to do. Do you want to
Make it so no one can start the iPhoto app without a password?  If so, I imagine you can put the app in an encrypted disk image. The photos can still be accessed in Finder, though.
Make it so no one can access the iPhoto Library?  You could put the library in an encrypted disk image. I don't know if a sparse image or a predefined size would be best.  Maybe someone else can weigh in on that.
Make it so no one can start iPhoto and no one can access the photos?  Put both in an encrypted disk image.
I've not tried these things.  I would have a concern that software update might not find iPhoto if it isn't in the regular place.  Certainly you can put the library in an encrypted image but if someone tries to start up iPhoto they may generate a new blank library and you would have to reconnect to your old library.  An annoyance (especially if you aren't paying attention and you add photos to the wrong library) but not a killer.

  • Reconnecting Media FCP does not see?

I am going through lessons in the book and have copied media and project files from the hard drive. On some macs, everything seems to open fine, while on other macs, some of the media opens fine, however, some clips do not show in the Timeline, even though they appear in the Browser with a red line through them.
When I check the hard drive, the media is clearly on the hard drive.
    1. Any idea why it might be doing this?
    2. When I control click on the clip in question in the Timeline, and choose Reconnect Media, it works fine after locating the clip on the drive. Is there a way to do this for multiple clips rather than doing it one clip at a time?
    Thanks!!!!

in the Reconnect Files window, when you press Locate and get the Reconnect dialog, there should be a checkbox saying "Reconnect All Files in Relative Path" ... if you enable that one it should find all other files in the same path without having to do it one by one

  • HT1382 Is there anyway to convert video taken by ipad and burn it to a DVD that can play on DVD player?

Is there anyway to convert video taken by ipad and burn it to a DVD that can play on DVD player?

    Persius,
Nearly every DVD that will play on a set-top player *should* play on a computer, provided two things:
1.) the computer has a DVD player that can handle that flavor of DVD media, DVD RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD DL, etc.
2.) the computer has a software player installed. This feature has been removed from some common media players. You may need to locate, download and install a separate software player.
There could be another discussion on interlaced vs progressive scan media, but I'll let you ask that question.
