Is there anyway to transfer purchases without homesharing or plugging up your i-pod touch??

I have a first generation 8GB I-pod touch. For some reason, it will no longer come on (it randomly cut off after being on with a full battery, and now when I press the power button, the apple appears but never fully comes on). I've tried charging it and plugging it up to the computer but it won't respond. My problem is that I've purchased songs from my account on the I-pod itself and never transfered them to my computer. When I go onto my account from my computer, it tells me that I've already purchased those songs when I look them up. So I can't "rebuy" or "redownload" them. It just says "purchased". Is there anyway I can download them again or something? I've considered sending it in for repair, but still that does me no good because I will lose all the data from my I-pod if Apple fixes it, or replaces it. And I don't think homesharing will work since you have to authorize the share on the original device? So is there anyway to get my purchases from this unresponsive I-pod before sending it in if they haven't been transfered? Thanks in advance.

Yes. You can change the answers to the security questions provided when you originally signed up for your Apple ID. Go to My Apple ID and click Manage your Apple ID. Sign in with your Apple ID name and password, go to the section Password and Security and click Reset your security information.

Click on "Account Management" and then on "Forgotten Security Questions". That will take you to a page where you can talk to iTunes Support right away, or you can schedule a call to talk to them. They should be able to get you squared away so that you can log on to the old Apple ID.
