Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

You can try putting it into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
If that works, you can see if the computer will recognize it when connected, either in iTunes or by the system.
NOTE:  You can also try putting it into Disk Mode WHILE it is already connected to the computer.
If the iPod is recognized, you may be able to use one of the third-party methods or utilities to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  You can do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer" to get some links (add "mac" to the search if your computer is a Mac).
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library, then sync it to the new iPod.

Is there a way to erase all content on a 1st generation nano without connecting to my pc?

No, you need to connect it to a computer running iTunes to manage the iPod's content (or erase it).

yes, its the macbook air and mac OS X 10.7.4, not sure how that goes, about the time machine and time capsule, i only started using it today, when they were already deleted, also read at the support and help of iphoto, that if you delete your images from the picture folder that the images will be corrupted permanently, does this mean there there is no actual way of getting them back?
    Thanks for the help x

  • I pressed the erase all media button now unable to start phone help pls

hi ive pressed the erase all media reset button now unable to start phone when i go to start phone the apple logo comes on and the rest of the phone is black n blank please help. thank toplad

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Is there anyway i can get all the stuff deleted off my phone

is there anyway i can get all the stuff deleted off my phone as its been stolen and will there be anyway ill be able to get all my stuff back if i get a new phone

If you activated "Find my iPhone", you could log into your iCloud account and wipe the phone remotely. If you have a backup of your device on your computer or iCloud, you can restore from that backup if you have your new device.

  • Is there anyway i can get all my downloaded songs from itunes onto my ipad?, is there anyway i can get all my downloaded songs from itunes onto my ipad?

is there anyway i can get all my downloaded songs from itunes onto my ipad?

If you cannot powerup the phone, there would be no way to recover the photos from the device. Have you tried to just connect it to the computer? If the photos are that important, have you considered possibly a 3rd party repair to just fix the screen so you can access the device, or was there more broken than the screen?

  • I changed my password on my phone becuase my old one became comprimised and now i cant remember it and so i cant access my phone. is there anything i can do without erasing all my data?

i changed the password on my phone and now i cant remember what it was and im locked out. is there anything i can do that doesnt erase all the data on my phone? help please..

In that case, you will have to install iTunes on the computer, put the phone into recovery mode, and restore it as a new device. It will be wiped. Everything on it will be lost.
There is no way to bypass a forgotten lock code. If there were, it wouldn't be much good.

  • HT201210 I've updated my iPad to iOS6. Now saying connect to iTunes, which is saying my iPad in recovery & to restore to factory settings & all media & data will be erased. I DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN. What can I do?

I've update my iPad to iSO6. Now saying connect to iTunes, which is saying my iPad in recovery & to restore to factory stting & all media & data will be ereased. I DOT NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN. What can I do?

You have no choice now. Unless you want a brick for an iPad. After you restore to factory settings you can restore from your backup ..... And you do backup don't you? I would never update the iOS software without backing up first. After you restore from the backup, sync with iTunes again and you should be OK. Assuming that you do sync with iTunes .....
Read this for info on how to restore from the backup.

  • Installing iOS 5 erases all previous data

Installation of iOS 5 erased all previous data on my iPad. Help! Prior to iCloud being in the picture, where were all my photos and documents backed up?
I am attempting to locate the files which vanished upon updating to iOS 5 - hundreds of pdf files, thousands of uploaded photos, screen shots, saved photos from web, ALL GONE. So were all my acquired apps, although those have been replaced - now I can begin or attempt to reconstitute the complex folder structure (notes, notes 2, notes 3, etc.) which grew over the last few iOS iterations, from too many apps stuffed into folders with strict limitations on contents. Tedious, but possible. Re all the photos, I'm still looking for clues: Is solid state storage similar to that on disk drives – does deleted information still reside on the drive, just not on the index?
Also, post updating, I am continually being prompted to authorize my computer, even though it is, and my Apple ID is intermittently rejected as if invalid, this is causing syncing challenges.
    Thanks.
Weary of chasing side effects of upgrading operating systems.

Same for me, when install was finished all was gone, but strange enough the disk space bar was indicating 14Go other and that was exactly my content "in app" without apps, photos, video and music. So this data was not accessible due to missing apps and all my photo/video/music was gone.
I had exactly the same issue last upgrade, and last time I decided to resync my media content and started to add apps one by one again, and by magic almost all the apps managed to find back their data in the 14Go "other" that was still in the IPad. But I had to redo a lot of work like Icon position, some settings, and some apps didn't restore well. Took me a very long time and effort to get back to a nominal situation.
So this time I deciced instead to click "Restore" before doing any sync and used the backup that was generated automaticly just before the upgrade to 5.0 (so still with version 4 of ths IOS)
The process started, the Ipad rebooted and firmware was then loaded again (still 5.0) and the 14Go data from the backup was reloaded also, and this time after this quite long step, itunes started to restore apps, music, photos and videos one by one ... was quite a very long process but at the end all was perfect, storage was back to 40 Go including my 14Go data and all photos, videos and apps, with all setting perfectly restored.
    Hope this help,
    Patrick

  • HT1766 Where is my old backup stored? Because of auto backup, I can't see any of my older ones and with new ios erased all my data and it kept backing up the "new" setting

I plugged in my iphone and then itunes says my iOS was old and need update. Hence I update it to 7 where it erased all my data to start with, and it was actually backed up before it was erased.
After the new iOS was installed, it just couldn't restore the old data and instead it kept auto back up the new setting.  I called apple help line and the guy said whatever is on the itunes list is all there is. But because of the auto backup, the whole list is full of new backups without my old stuff. Is there anyone who can tell me whether these files are overridden or instead just not showing on itunes, and where can I find it?
    Thanks lots

When you restore a device, a new backup is created and the old backup has a date added to the backup name.
Look in iTunes prefs > Devices.
The current backup will not have a date in the name. It will show the date on right side.
