Is there continuous play of a song while importing cd's iTunes?

I would like to know if there is a feature for, once the songs you are importing from a cd, when you play a song from the cd itself, if you hit the eject button while the song is playing, the song continues to play without delay. If there isn't, this sure would be a nice feature. Sometimes I'll listen to a song on a cd while it is importing the album. Once the album is imported, I would like to eject it and input another cd, but that usually means the song I am listening to will stop playing. Then I have to go into recently added songs to hear that song again while loading up another cd.

I figured that. I just thought there would be, like a buffer, that held the song in memory so there wouldn't be a drop. Thanks.

  • Play songs while importing?

So upon installing itunes 8 i noticed they got rid of the play songs while importing feature. Does anyone know of a workaround to get this working again? It seems like it can be enabled again by editing itunesprefs.xml but i dont know the appropriate code if thats the case. I did tons of searches on the web and was only able to find information on macs. Can anyone help?
this is frustrating because i dont want to revert back just for this feature.

I guess that if you can turn this on on a Mac with:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes play-songs-while-importing -bool TRUE
Then it might be possible to do the same on windows by editing '\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunesiTunesPrefs.XML' and adding:
    <key>play-songs-while-importing</key>
    <data>True</data>
It might work and it's pretty easy to check. MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP THE FILE FIRST!!

  • HT1725 I downloaded an album and all of the tracks will play about 3/4 of the song then stop and play the next song.  I went to itunes store and it said the songs fully downloaded. So how do I get the full song into my library?

I downloaded an album and all of the tracks will play about 3/4 of the song then stop and play the next song.  I went to itunes store and it said the songs fully downloaded. So how do I get the full song into my library?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Problems w/ continuous play & next/prev. song controls

i am having large issues with the next and previous song controls. the controls in the top left corner to the right and to the left of the play/pause button only stop the current playing song when pressed, and when i press the left/right arrow keys on my computer keyboard to move to the next song, the current playing song also stops instead of working correctly.
to make matters worse, when a song in my library finishes playing, it does not go to the next song and begin play like it should, it only stops the music much like what happens when you try to manually go to the next song. i cant get any continuous playback of multiple songs and cant swith from song to song without double clicking with a mouse. can anyone fix this problem?

No problems ... I have the exact parallel problem with remembering the Mac key combo for this one.

  • Cant play the hole song after downloading it from itunes, cant play the hole song after downloading it from itunes

cant play the hole song after downloading it from itunes

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Skippinig CD cannot be ejected while importing -- locks up iTunes

while importing my library of audioCD (store bought) some of them have scratches. When iTunes encouters this, I cannot get it to skip the track. Or stop trying to import by typing the "x" in the "apple window". Nor can I eject the CD. I've had to force quit every time. And, yes I adjusted my preferences in advanced to "repair CD" -- still no help.

This is indeed, at least in my opinion, a longstanding bug with iTunes for Mac. No alert message of any kind to the effect that the import process is failing/has failed, and no way to exit the process. Unfortunately, probably the best way to grab the bull by the horns is to simply use a straightened paper clip to depress the emergency eject switch next to your optical drive (if you computer has one of these nifty things). It's definitely better than letting your drive burn itself out in an endless loop trying to read something it simply never will. After ejecting a disc this way, it's good practice to restart the computer.
Once you have experienced this kind of behavior with a scratched CD, repair the disc (or have it repaired). I have a small tin of Brasso, and have repaired dozens of badly damaged discs with it. You can read up on how to do this on the web. Otherwise, use a program such as Max to rip the disc, making sure to select the paranoia ripper within the program's preferences. In all likelihood, you'll get a near perfect rip, and even if the program gets stuck reading some part of the CD, you can at least gracefully bow out of the operation without your computer hanging.

  • Is there a Maximum number of songs you can have in iTunes library?

I have reached what I believe to be the Maximum number of songs that iTunes will allow. That number is 37,562 songs. Since reaching this plateau I have since split my iTunes library into two seperate libraries using the program Libra but am wondering what happened to all the songs I either downloaded off my own CDs or purchased from the iTunes store after I reached that maximum number. It's not a matter of hard drive space as I was originally told by several Apple Employees...I have a Terabyte drive that I have my libraries going to that has over 700GB still free. I'm concerned that songs may have been deleted and wonder how I found out which ones were deleted or what happened to songs as I reached the 37,562 level and continued to add songs until I finally realized that the song count wasn't going any higher. I am on a Mac, using a G4 desktop under MacOSX 10.4.8. Any help would be appreciated...Tks

  • Having a break between the songs while playin music in iTunes

    Hi there
I asked this question before, but still with no answer...
When Playing music in iTunes the songs run without any break - that is something like 5 seconds before the current song playing is supposed to finish, the next one already starts to play. I hope to have a break between the songs - only when the current song reaches an end, the next one begins. Is there a way to do that? I would appreciate your help.
    Thank you

  • Lost 9 songs while downloading music from itunes store

Downloaded 2 albums for my daughter this aternoon. 9 of the songs were missing. I found them in my music folder in a sub folder labeled download. They will not show up in Itunes and when I check for downloads it says they are all done. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

    Welcome to AD!
I know you weren't downloading videos and probably didn't get an error 8008, but try these steps for getting rid of that download folder & checking for available purchases after it's gone.

  • IPod plays great but songs don't appear in iTunes

I originally set up my 4th-gen iPod to synch with iTunes on my PC. Made a brief switch to a Mac laptop running OSX 10.4.11 -- reformatted the iPod, transferred the songs from one iTunes to the other. Alas, that experiment is coming to an end and I decided to reformat to the PC. Weirdly, the iPod absorbed the entire library on my PC -- I thought reformatting the device wiped it clean. But the songs don't show up in iTunes under my player although they do in the library -- that is, I can see the titles, but they're grayed out, I can't select them, and I can't add anything to the iPod from the iTunes library. Just for grins, I plugged the iPod back into my Mac, and the songs are also grayed out. I'm lost in the Twilight Zone. Any suggestions?

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.
Please note that by editing/changing the songs on your iPod in this manner, the changes will not affect the songs in iTunes, only on your iPod.

  • Itunes no longer plays the first CD track etc. while importing?

Now when I start importing from a CD Itunes no longer starts playing the first track after it has downloaded and the second track begins downloading. I can't see a switch or button that has shut that feature off but Itunes used to play it without being prompted but no longer does. What am I missing?

    hs,
Just in case you haven't found the answer to your question in other postings, what works is to open the Terminal (found in Apps>Utilities) and type in : -
defaults write com.apple.iTunes play-songs-while-importing -bool TRUE
Hit return and then close the Terminal. The next time you open iTunes it should play again as you import cds.
I guess it's all part of the "Macs are easier to use" policy of Apple :o)

I used to be able to play any tunes on the compact dics even while it was importing it. Now for some reason I can't do them any more the play button is greyed over. I looked through all the preferences but no luck. Any ideas how to fix this?

Playing songs while importing was one of the functions removed from iTunes with version 8 but it can be reinstated with a terminal command. See this post for details: iTunes 8 for Mac - Preferences
