Is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro?

OK...so here's what I'm trying to find out: is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro? Or can I build the project in DVDSTPRO and import it to iDVD to build and burn?
I've read several threads here and haven't come across my specific question. If I missed it, please copy me a link. Otherwise, I'd like to use the templates/themes in iDVD with my FCP project.
I was thinking about importing the project from FCP to iDVD. Then, I thought about the markers etc....
So, if anyone had an idea, tip or link, I'm all for it!
Thanks!
ron

Importing iDVD Projects and Themes
DVD Studio Pro 4 can import projects from iDVD 3 and iDVD 4. You can import an iDVD theme by using the theme in a project within iDVD and importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. When creating the project within iDVD, you do not need to use the final assets or make a complete project.
Note: DVD Studio Pro will not import projects from iDVD 1, iDVD 2, and iDVD 5. In general, iDVD needs to be installed on the same system as DVD Studio Pro. An exception is if you import an iDVD 4 archive project.
To import an iDVD project or archived project into DVD Studio Pro:
1 Do one of the following:
• Choose File > Open.
• Press Command-O.
2 Locate and select the iDVD project or iDVD 4 archive project in the Open dialog, then click Open.
DVD Studio Pro imports the iDVD project.
About the iDVD Project Import
When DVD Studio Pro imports an iDVD 3 or iDVD 4 project or iDVD 4 archive project, it has standard locations it looks for to find the assets and themes used in the project. This is especially important if the project uses custom themes.
The standard locations that DVD Studio Pro uses are (in this order):
• iDVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
• [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
• [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
• /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically
configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as having a server networked into your computer.)
• iDVD application bundle: This is the iDVD application file that contains the default theme elements.
Note: When you create an archive project in iDVD 4, you can choose to include the themes and encoded files. For the best portability, you should include both options. This results in a larger archive file, but ensures you can take the file to any DVD Studio Pro system and import it without missing assets. If you do not choose to include the themes and encoded files in the archive file, those assets must be available in one of the standard locations.
If your project will have automatically-created chapter index (scene selection) menus based on markers embedded in the video, it can be easier to create these within iDVD prior to importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. This ensures the chapter index menus use the selected theme’s background and include arrow buttons to navigate between the menus.
Important: To ensure all iDVD menu elements import correctly into DVD Studio Pro, you must navigate to each chapter index menu within iDVD before saving the project. This is also true for any menus you add to your iDVD project by clicking the Folder button.
Issues With Importing iDVD Projects
There are some issues to be aware of when you import iDVD projects:
• If you import an iDVD project with DVD-ROM content, DVD Studio Pro does not update the settings in the Disc Inspector’s General tab to reflect the DVD-ROM content. You must manually select the DVD-ROM layout and choose the folder to include.
• When you create a slideshow in iDVD, you can add arrow buttons to each still to provide viewers with an additional method of jumping to the previous and next stills. These arrow buttons are not imported when you import an iDVD project into DVD Studio Pro. The viewer must use the Previous and Next buttons on the DVD player’s remote control to jump between stills.
• The button highlights used in iDVD may look different when imported into DVD Studio Pro. In most cases, the text in the buttons is set to be included in the highlight. Additionally, buttons that use an underline in iDVD will not have an underline when imported into DVD Studio Pro.
• When you import an iDVD project, you may find that the button that is highlighted by default on some menus changes. During the project import, DVD Studio Pro numbers the buttons on each menu and highlights button 1 by default. You can assign any button on a menu to be the default button in the Menu tab in the Menu Inspector.
• If you import an iDVD project that contains a drop zone configured as a slideshow and has multiple slides assigned to it, DVD Studio Pro only shows the slideshow’s first slide in the drop zone.

I have a result set from a select * from users where userid = xxx statement. However, at the moment I have had to hard code the remainder of the code to get the data from each column as I need the column name as well as its data.

Well, it is not really simple. But there are Open Source components to simplify it for you. See e.g http://www.must.de/Jacompe.htm - de.must.dataobj.DataObject and its subclasses. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions: [email protected]

  • What's the best way to master an MPEG 2 file for DVD Studio Pro.

In version 4.5 of FCP I was able to use QuickTime conversion to encode to MPEG2. Now that option is not there. I hate using compressor 2 to create MPEG 2 because when I do the MPEG 2 files always seem to studder and I don't know why. I shot my project in HDV. It is about 64 minutes long. Any suggestions on the BEST way to master an MPEG 2 file for DVD Studio pro? Thanks in advance!
    Peter
    PS - I'm using FCP 5

Some people have reported a field reversal problem with HDV to SD DVD encodes. There's an Apple technical document on this issue somewhere, but the problem was supposed to be addressed by a Pro Applications update a couple of years ago... This site might help you get to the bottom of the problem.

  • What's the best compressor setting to export from FCP to DVD Studio Pro?

I am exporting an 11 minute video from FCP Studio 2 via compressor to go to DVD Studio Pro. It's DV PAL 720 x 576 and I intend the final DVD to be 16:9 so I'll be choosing 16:9 letterbox in DVDStudio Pro.
As my video is only 11 minutes am I losing quality by selecting Best Quality DVD 90 minutes?
And is the way I described above the best way to go about it?

You should try the setting as a start, though there are many tweaks you can do if you do not like the results. One of the biggest tweaks is the frame controls (adds more time but can help.)
You should send out to a preset for 16:9 (or make your own setting with aspect ratio of 16:9) then flag the track in DVD SP to 16:9 Letterbox

  • Exporting from FCE for DVD Studio Pro

I'm wondering what the best way is to export a video (approx 90 mins) from Final Cut Express HD to use to make playable DVDs using DVD Studio Pro on a different computer. Dual-layer DVDs are an option if there's no way to do this under 4.7 GB, but I'm interested in all my options. Thanks!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
What about an external hard drive to save your exported self contained movie?
Switch the drive to computer with DVDSP.

  • Does iDVD and DVD Studio Pro use the same encoder?

I have a video I shot in 1080p and it looks great on screen. When I use iDVD to make a quick playable DVD of it (as i have done with many other projects) I'm not happy with the results. It is only about 8 minutes long so there shouldn't be issues with extra compression to get it to fit on the disc.
So I'm thinking of redoing it in DVD Studio Pro, but won't bother if they both use the same MPEG-2 encoding methods. Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

Videodude, Compressor isn't necessary since iDVD will do the compression for you. But I wasn't happy with the standard def quality I was getting so Mish recommended using manual settings in Compressor and exporting the MPEG2 files needed to burn to DVD. Since Compressor created the files I used DVD Studio Pro to master my DVD.
You should be able to burn a HD disc through iDVD if you have a BlueRay burner. But keep in mind that not everyone has BlueRay and the discs aren't cheap. Be a shame if you handed out discs that no one could use.
As a side note, I used Mish's advice and am really happy with the quality of video I'm getting now. I can only guess that iDVD over compressed the video so it could squeeze two hours on a DVD, even though my video was only 10 min.

  • Quality issues in iDVD - is DVD Studio Pro the answer?

    Hi all,
I am having a problem producing a high quality DVD with iDVD. I know this is the DVD studio forum but I am wondering if I need to switch form iDVD to get the results I want. So, this is what I am doing in iDVD.
I am using 13 QT (.mov) movie files that were made using the "Best" quality setting. Their size is 720 X 480. I am using the "Professional Quality" encoding in the Preference dialog and the Project settings dialog. The theme I am using is Revolution. (This is all in iDVD)
I have burned a few DVDs (Memorex DVD+RW, 4X) and at first used the "Best Performance" encoding. It took about 20 min to burn the DVD. The results were too pixelated. Then I read about the other settings, and used the "Professional Quality". This higher setting took over 40 min to burn the DVD. Unfortunately, the results were not that much better.
Can someone help me to figure out what is wrong? I am looking to produce the crisp quality I see when I view the QT movie files (before I incorporated them into my iDVD project).
What I am thinking is that iDVD is not capable of producing the high crisp quality I am looking for and that DVD Studio Pro might be my answer. Or, could it be my QT movie files (thou they look great when I just play them on my computer in the QT player.
    Thanks
PS: I posted a similar topic in the iDVD forum but no answers as of yet and I am on a strict deadline (aren't we all...lol)

You didn't mention that you were doing screen captures. That makes a difference. Camtasia is compressing your screen captures. All DVDs use MPEG-2 compression. So you are in fact double compressing your videos (which always results is lower quality).
To get better results see if you can get Camtasia to record uncompressed, or using the Animation codec at Best. This will result in a absolutely huge file, which is what you want. You bring that into iDVD for good results. Or bring it into Compressor and then DVD SP for better results. Or a third party MPEG-2 encoder like BitVice and then DVD SP for best results. Of course using anything other than iDVD will require a couple of weeks training.

  • I am finding whenever I put in a list of cookies to block, this list is gone once I close than re-open Firefox. I am wondering if there is a way to keep the cookies from disappearing?

I am currently running Firefox 3.6.8 and using the privacy settings "accept cookies from sites and clear history when Firefox closes", in previous versions of Firefox I found I was always able to retain my list of cookie exceptions. Any feedback would be awesome, thankx!

    * Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing the "Site Preferences" will clear all exceptions including exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software (add-on) installation and password exceptions.

  • I have the 4th generation iPod touch and my friend changed the iPod passcode and she cant remember it. Im on the iPod, Im not locked out. Im wondering if there is a way to change the passcode from inside the ipod settings or something?

My friend cant remember the password. Can I change it from inside the iPod settings or something?

Your friend could only have changed it if they had your original passcode - you have to be able to enter the current passcode to change it to a new one.  Once you restore it now, I would then change it and NOT give it out to people.
P.S. if you have a backup from when it still had your passcode on it, just restore from that backup and it should set the passcode back to what you had.
Without that backup, you will have to restore as new, and set everything up again from scratch.

    Hey timeline
    welcome to the apple boards...
ill give you the easy fix, although i would recommend the proper fix.
first, build your project on any of your drives so you can see your audio and video TS folders.
once you see your build, then click on "Format" and before you click on format (on the lower right hand corner of the Format window, click on the second tab and under "Layer Break" click the drop down box and whatever is NOT greyed out, can be used as a layer break.
the more proper way do it it would require you to do some calculations based on the amount of video in your project and re-encode your video.
    hope that helps
    Mikey M.

I've heard of older themes being imported into DVDSP with some success. Newer themes may pose an issue however. This is only a guess but I suspect they be exclusive to iDvd. You'd have to rebuild them within DVDSP and re-establish each link. Might want to post this same question to the DVDSP Forum also for a complete answer to your question. Good luck on this and feel free to keep us posted.

  • Is there a way to export the coord data of AE objects in 3D space? (for programmers)

Hey guys, we're making a video that will mostly be a fixed camera view but have objects animate around this view. The priority is the audio; the objects that animate will sound like they are flying around the camera's point of view (the user when they're using headphone). Since I will be animating the objects inside After Effects and already be assigning them X,Y, & Z coordinates during the animation, is there any way to take the data of the objects location through time to give to the programmers so they can assign the audio/attributes to the objects moving around in the scene? Sort of like how if I made a null object in AE, I can have it be the parent to another layer(s), I need to find a way to make this same concept work but for audio and other assigned attributes. It seems it would save us a lot of time if this is possible instead of figuring out where the sound is coming from later on by scratch and guessing. If there are other programs that can do this please let me know, I do use Maya and other 3D apps. Thanks!

Perhaps there is a way to export the javascript as a text file or some format useful to your programmers.
Can you give more details as to your end result and starting point?  You mentioned you use other 3D programs.  Maya used to have in Maya 4.0 a way to dynamically animate according to audio.  Other 3D programs still offer this functionality through their scripting and/or interface.
Flash Pro has 3D layers and if your animations are short enough you might be able to do the project in Flash and access the SoundChannel aspects of ActionScript 3.0 .  AE uses a version of Javascript.  There might be a way in the AE Scripting reference to read objects within the file and a method in the scripting to export these objects.  I'm only guessing since I don't know how to script in AE but I see no one has replied to this thread and I was curious myself.

  • Is there a way to keep the Nano from auto shutting off?

This is probably a weird question because it doesn't really involve a problem per se. I am a drummer in a band. I am using my iPod 1 GB Nano to play an intro during our live shows and also play segways between songs because it is more reliable than a laptop. Basically each of my sound clips are in their own playlist so that once the clip ends it stops and doesn't go to the next song and I'm not trying stop it while I'm also playing the drums. But within a minute or so of finishing the sound clip the Nano shuts off. When I turn it back on it causes a small popping sound in the PA (which is undesireable). I'm wondering if there is a way to keep the iPOD from shutting off automatically. I haven't been able to find any settings that allow me to prevent it from auto shut off. Any suggestions? And just to clarify, it is not shutting off while playing the sound clip, but usually a minute or so after. So It's not like it is malfunctioning. But there must be some way to keep it from shutting off automatically.

  • Is the other way to get the downloads from the support section

Is there any other way to get the downloads from the support section?
Because the download speed is very slow. For example in need the new version from the Value Added Package, and its 116 MB big. A normal download time would be about 5 - 10 minutes. But when i download it from Toshiba I need 2 - 6 hours. Not good for a company that makes high performance computers and notebooks.
And the worst thing is that the connection is reseted after some hours...so I'll never get the update.
    Does anyone know help?

    Hello Thmas
I can understand you very well because few days ago i have installed Vista Ultimate on my brand new Satellite A200. Unfortunately I am afraid there is no much to do. You know very well that since Vista OS is on the market, thousands of people want to downgrade OS to WXP or update to Vista ultimate.
I am really not wondering that download is so slow. I have noticed that download speed is much better early morning and maybe you should download all stuff you need at this time. Save all this stuff for further handling.
    Bye and good luck
