Is there no 'Undo' button in Photoshop CS3 ?

Hello again, and thank you for your time.
So far I'm only finding 2 choices:
1. Edit>Undo (for a single undo action)
2. Ctrl+Z (for multiple undo actions)
I'm not a fan of searching the keyboard for short cuts if I can just
click on the screen. (Ctrl+Z=pain in the *** for me)
Is there a button available?
A 'back' or 'undo' button?
I bet CS4 has one . . .  should have waited for CS4 . . .
Thanks again for the help,
Brad

Hello everybody!
I wrote an on-screen 'undo' button for Photoshop which you can download from (and read the details regarding) here. . .
http://www.iboxpublishing.com/index_on-screen-undo-button-for-photoshop.php#top_of_news
I wrote it because, while Ctrl-Alt-Z works, if you happen to be working on a Tablet PC screen, (as I am these days), then it is very handy to have a little button you can tap on-screen with the stylus to undo the last action in Photoshop. It's an intuitive and sensible tool.
The button is tested in WinXP and should work in later versions of Windows, and I've posted both the .exe as well as the script (for AutoHotKey) in which I've written full explanations using language designed for non-programmers, (ahem, artists), so that you can easily understand how the button works and how you can change it to suit your own needs and tastes.
As popularity of the Digital Drafting Board increases, (draw-on-the-screen-tablets, that is), tools like this one are going to be increasingly useful. Until somebody comes along and writes a proper on-screen interactive (and programmable) tool set, artists are going to have to make do with what we can cobble together on our own. I've found this tool very useful, (I use it every day), and so perhaps it might also benefit others out there.
Hope that helps!

  • Is there a way to integrate Photoshop CS3 and Aperture?

Ok, here is what I want to do. I use Aperture to organize and store my RAW pictures (as well as my edited photos, I use stacks), but I like to use Adobe Camera RAW to edit my RAW photos. I want to take my RAW photo, edit it in Adobe Camera RAW, export that RAW image back to Aperture for storage so I can create a JPEG or whatever for other editing in Photoshop. Is there a way to keep a file in RAW format between the 2 applications?

I'm not sure if this will help, but I use Aperture 2.1 and CS3. I am coming from a many year user of LR and find the "round trip to CS3" much cleaner in AP. Remember you are not actually working on the RAW file in AP or LR - the RAW image is always maintained. I will do my sorting and editing in AP up to the point I need CS3 - which is becoming less and less with the new plugins and the basic power of AP. I will highlight the image, go to edit with and call up CS3. I will then go through whatever is necessary in CS3 then Save the work - NOT Save As! The image, layers, masks, etc. will be preserved and the re-worked image will appear in AP alongside the original AP image. If needed later, I double click on the CS3 image (it has a little "marker" next to the image for identification) and I am back in CS3 complete with all the CS3 work and I can pick up where I left off. In this way I can continue to PS the image as I wish without losing the past work -- Hit Save again and the reworked image will go right back into AP. The RAW image remains in its original form. If the issue is saving the PS work into the source file, you can Save AS in PS and point the image into the file. The only problem here is all the layers, etc. are flattened so you lose the ability to return to "where you left off." The only alternative I see is to use PS exclusively and Save the work pointing back to the original file. Making the point again, regardless of AP or LR's use, the program(s) are non-destructive and preserve the original RAW image. For me, the "round trip" in AP is much smoother than in LR.

  • Is there a plug-in for Photoshop CS3 for multi photos...

I hope I can explain this clearly enough. Have you ever seen those pictures, let's say...of a building, where, when you get up real close, you can see it's made up of a whole bunch of smaller pictures that make up the whole image? I'm wondering how that's done and if there's a plug-in or a tutorial that Photoshop has that can make or explain how to do that? I work at a design business and I have a customer that wants the done to one of his projects. Can anyone help me out please?

Not a plugin, but a standalone free application:

    Works great!

  • Photoshop CS3 Book and Tutorial Recommendations

    Hi there,
I am a beginner CS3 user. My main interest is in enhancing old graphic prints (not digital photography). By enhancing I mean changing colors, brightness, contrast, and sometimes redrawing a section of the original print. I typically scan the prints and save the images as tiff files that I then open in CS3. I'm running OSX 10.4.11.
There are numerous books on Photoshop CS3 on Amazon, but I am finding it difficult to make a choice. I would like book and tutorial recommendations from the Photoshop user forum community.
    Thanks!
    Al

I'll suggest a different tack altogether. As I'm a visually oriented, I find that being shown is far more effective than reading about things. Parsing intellectual abstractions (language) rather than dealing directly with the subject through imagery always seems like an extra labor... at least at the beginning until I have enough of a syntax built to enable contextual relevance.
With that preface I'd suggest you look at Deke McClelland's video tutorials now available online from Lynda.com. Start with "Photoshop CS3 One-on-One: The Essentials' followed by "Photoshop CS3 One-on-One: Beyond the Basics" and "Photoshop CS3 One-on-One: Advanced Techniques." After Deke's tutorials you will be prepared to dive into any of the many others Photoshop CS3 authors available on Lynda.com.
    http://movielibrary.lynda.com/authors/author/?aid=98
When I first started Photoshop, it was so dense and alien that, even with several books to help, I considered myself only a beginner even after a year or so of intense struggle. Then I ran into Deke's training and felt that I made a huge jump in comprehension and skill set in a very short time. I would watch the training and during the first go would do the examples. After once through I would work with PS for a bit to let the training sink in and then watch once more followed by more work. After the third viewing, I'd absorbed almost all I was going to and Deke's jokes were old so it was time to move on.
The training on Lynda.com is very reasonably priced for the value of the training and I would suggest Deke's tutorials to any beginner as a more effective way to start than books.

  • HELP - Installing Photoshop CS3 Extended using Apple Remote Desktop

    Hello,
I have 12 MacPro's in a classroom. Is there a way to Install Photoshop CS3 Extended using Apple Remote Desktop (not on a server) to all the computers at once?
    Thank you very much.

I don't have access to stand-alone PS CS3, only the Design Premium CS3 disc, but that includes Photoshop, so they're probably the same system. In any case, it does not use a standard Apple packaging scheme, instead using a custom mess of hollow folders, app packages, disk images, shared resources, and xml config files.
I briefly went ahead with the idea of doing an install, looking for what had been installed, and bundling up that virgin copy using Package Maker; but installing it elsewhere — with Installer, nevermind ARD — failed or left me with a 'crashy' copy of the apps. Maybe I just stink at making packages of other people's software, but my guess is that Adobe's installer throws files into nooks and crannies all over, or does a importantly-different install depending on your hardware/software config. In any case, I gave up and made an updated hard drive image including the new software. Deploying that worked fine.
Sorry I didn't have better news. Good luck. Joel

  • Can I make a (simple and basic) website with Photoshop CS3?

I know there are tools in the Photoshop CS3 that can help me with web design functions such as making slices, animated gif, layer etc. But can it help me to design and create a simple and basic personal website? I don't need any fancy stuff like dynamic html or xml (maybe I will put some music files) but only basic html would be enough. I have MS Frontpage 2003, which can help me to create a website with no problem at all but I like the slices and layers idea on the Photoshop. Plus sometimes a website that was created by Frontpage will not look the same or work properly in Firfox, which is the browser that I use all the time. I wish I could have Dreamweaver CS3 but it is too expensive for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
p.s. If the answer is no, then I would start using Frontpage to help me with that.

Forget FrontPage. Forget you ever even heard of it.

  • Is there a way to use the Unicode Miscellaneous Symbols in Photoshop CS3?

    Hi,
Is there a way to use the Unicode Miscellaneous Symbols, a list of which can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miscellaneous_Symbols in photoshop CS3?
I've enabled unicode on my keyboard; and I can make the symbols if I type them in Textedit. But, if I try to copy and paste them into Photoshop it doesn't work.
Is there a way to access these symbols in Photoshop? They aren't in the Symbol, Wingdings, or Zapf Dingbats fonts.

    Hi Chris,
Thank you very much for the message.
With unicode enabled and the character palette open, I have to change View from Glyph to Code Tables in order to find the characters I need. (What I need isn't available in the glyph view as far as I can see). Then I scroll down to the unicode series beginning 00002600 Miscellaneous Symbols. I tried copying and pasting a character from here into photoshop, but it didn't work.
Unfortunately, I don't see the symbols I need in the glyph view. Is there a way to copy and paste from the code tables view? If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
    Thank you.

  • Photoshop CS3 printing garbage characters on HP LaserJet 1300

After installing CS3, Photoshop prints garbage characters on my HP LaserJet 1300.
Yes, I have tried printing as ASCII, ASCII85, Binary and JPEG - nothing helps (plus the settings won't stick even after holding down Alt and clicking the Remember button).
The only way to print right now is to choose Save as PDF in the print dialogue, open the PDF in Adobe Reader and print from there.
    Any ideas?

tzw - I responded about this on another forum. I talked to technical support at Adobe about this exact issue about 2 months ago - can't print photoshop CS3 on any of my three HP printers. ( I have a HP1200, an HP 2550 and a HP photosmart 7660) (CS2 works fine) They worked with me for about an hour - called me back and worked some more, and then decided to send it up to the programmers (or engineers or whatever) The programmers called me and worked with me for another hour - trying different set-ups etc., but the conclusion by them was that this was a huge problem in that there were a lot of HP printers out there - that they were going to give this their top priority - and that there would be a fix for this soon. (I have yet to see a fix.)

  • How to open animated .GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer

Q: Since ImageReady is long gone from Photoshop, how can I open animated GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer?
    A: File -> import-> video to layers.
In the dialogue box type "*.*" to show all file types.
Select your GIF file and which frames to import.
They will now be available in your animation palette.

    Zeno
curt y, sorry for the late reply, I tried that but I doesn't work. I have to choose at least two files in the Load Layers window in order for the OK button to be available and then some action script uses the different files to make layers and merges them but not from the frames of the gif file. I can undo through the script to see what it did but it never accessed the frames of the gif file, just the first frame. Choosing "make frames from layers" in the animation palette only puts the original files into layers - that is only the first frame of the gif file.
I guess I'm out of luck with the 64  bit version of Photoshop as Zeno suggested :-(
What program would you people suggest for opening each frame from gif files?

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes on startup under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - No splash screen

I installed my licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended today as part of my install a bunch of software after a reinstall of Windows (due to viruses).  I did a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I've used Photoshop CS3 Extended for quite a while now so I know what to expect on startup but it was previously installed under Windows XP Professional (32-bit). Figured I would give Windows 7 a chance this time around.
Google searches aren't turning up anything.  When I attempt to start the application, I get a window with the title "Adobe Photoshop CS3" (no "Extended" - I seem to recall the title changes later) and the toolbar appears.  However, no splash screen appears and no Product Activation wizard appears - the application simply freezes on an empty frame and a toolbar.  I've tried running Photoshop as Administrator (right-click, "Run As Administrator"), but nothing changed there.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I tried upgrading to CS3 10.0.1.  Nothing works.  The application simply freezes before it gets anywhere.
I tried calling Adobe Support since this technically falls under installation issues but their phone support systems are down today.  Go figure.
Edit:  I hooked into Photoshop with the Visual Studio debugger and every single thread is executing some variation of WaitForSingleObject() or WaitForMultipleObjects().  The main thread is "executing" somewhere in AdobeLM_libFNP.dll (at address 09619d81 - if I had debugging symbols for CS3, I could provide a function).  There are nine threads "running" at the point the freeze occurs - but all of them are technically suspended due to the functions they are executing - and one thread is in a suspended state.

And, according to the Event Viewer, the "Binary" data translates to a zero-terminated Unicode string of "Cross-thread".
My Visual Studio analysis was far more informative.  All threads are hung inside of WaitForSingleObject() and WaitForMultipleObjects() calls and the DLL in question appears to be FlexNet-related.  I did forget to mention that I also even manually started the FlexNet service in case, for some strange reason, Photoshop was waiting for it to start.  That also did not work.
(And there is nothing in the Action Center control panel either despite the message saying there might be more information there.)
Edit:  The timestamp above might be a little odd-looking.  I didn't originally see anything in Event Viewer until I clicked the first button to send an Error Report.  Mostly I just skipped that part of killing a process.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended installed but not working

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended was added to my computer when I bought it in Thailand.
Now (I am no longer in Thailand) I want to use it but I can't seem to open/do anything.
Even when asking for help with the 'Help' button it states that "There was an error in initializing the Adobe Help application. You may need to re-install the applicaiton and the Help componen".
How do I do this? Or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for the help!
    Eline

    Haha... I like the honesty!
I was in bad need for a computer and went to one of those fancy, big shopping malls recommended to me by a couple of friends. I didn't even know I had Adobe Photoshop until today. I am not sure I really got screwed or things just work differently. The computer is a little strange... (I can write in Thai สกร่ฟส กส่ฟกส า่ฟส ่ if I would like to) but so far it's ben okay.
Anyways, what would you suggest I do Mylenium?

  • Photoshop CS3 color management "Save for Web" problem

This problem is getting the best of me.......
After spending 3 full days researching this problem, I am no closer to finding an answer than when I started. I still cannot produce a usable image through the "Save for Web" feature of Photoshop CS3. I have read web page after web page of "Tips, Tricks and Recommendations" from dozens of experts, some from this forum, and still I have no solution... I am exhausted and frustrated to say the least. Here's the simple facts that I know at this point.
I have a web design project that was started in PS CS1. All artwork was created in photoshop and exported to JPG format by using "Save for Web". Every image displays correctly in these browsers (Safari, Camino, FireFox and even Internet Explorer on a PC).
I have recently upgraded to PS CS3 and now cannot get any newly JPG'd image to display correctly. My original settings in CS1 were of no concern to me at the time, because it always just worked, and so I do not know what they were. I have opened a few of my previous images in CS3 and found that sRGB-2.1 displays them more or less accurately. I am using sRGB 2.1 working space. Upon openning these previous image files, I get the "Missing Profile" message and of course I select "Leave as is. Do Not color manage". CS3 assumes sRGB-2.1 working space, opens the file, and all is well.
The problem is when I go to "Save for Web", the saturation goes up, and the colors change. The opposite of what most people are reporting. Here's another important point... new artwork created in CS3 does exactly the same thing, so it's not because of the older CS1 files.
I have tried every combination of "uncompensated color", "Convert to sRGB", "ICC Profile", etc. while saving. I have Converted to sRGB before saving, and my monitor is calibrated correctly.
I have tried setting the "Save for Web" page on 2-up and the "original" on the left is already color shifted before I even hit the "Save" button. Of course, the "Optimized" image on the right looks perfect because I am cheating by selecting the "Use Document Color Profile" item. Why do they even have this feature if doesn't work, or misleads you?
Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening here? Why is this all so screwed up?
CS1 worked fine out of the box.
Final note: I do have an image file I could send along that demonstrates how it is possible to display an image exactly the same in all 4 of the browsers I mentioned with no color differences. It is untagged RGB and somehow it just works.
I am very frustrated with all of this and any suggestions will be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Pete

    >> First of all... I'm using an Adobe RGB image master... I open it and get the Profile Mismatch Screen... I choose Use Enbedded profile... all looks well. Next I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... again all looks well, no change that I can tell.
This has further confused the issue on several points, not the least of which version PS you are doing this with?
    >> AdobeRGB> Convert to Profile > Working Space sRGB-2.1... all still looks well... but now, when I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... I see the insane oversaturated look that is driving me nuts.
That is your strongest clue...it sounds like you have a bad system or bad monitor profile. To rule out the monitor profile: Set sRGB as your monitor profile in System Prefs> Displays> Color.
    >> Adobe RGB image master... I open it and get the Profile Mismatch Screen... I choose Use Enbedded profile... all looks well. Next I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... again all looks well
That doesn't make sense, stripping an embedded AdobeRGB profile should desaturate the color in Softproof MonitorRGB, especially the reds -- you have something wacky going on there.
At this point I think you need to review the links and get a grip about how color management and profiles work...
BTW, forget about setting ColorSync in PS COlor Settings, use Adobe ACE.
    MO,
I think SFW is fixed under CS3 :) By default it Converts to sRGB and strips the profile.
