Is there only one way to initialize a char array ?

Question

char[] helloArray = { 'h', 'e', 'l', 'l', 'o', '.'};
why does't this working like it works in c ?
char hey[]={"you are dead !"};
??

In C, strings are char arrays, in Java they are instances of java.lang.String.
edit: try this:
char[] chars = "hello, world".toCharArray();
