Is there software (paid or free) to monitor temps for Mac?

I have one program now that shows me cpu utilization percentages on my two cores, but what is available to show me how hot they are getting or even the har drive and motherboard?

Great!  One more question.  Does anyone know what is good/acceptable temp range for either cpus or hard drive?
CPU doing light/medium work shouldn't get much over 70C
HD more like 40-45C

  • Is Final Cut Pro the only software that can open video .MXF files for Macs?

    Hello,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Trying to find software that will edit .MXF Video Files to work with Mac.
As the edit is simple, prefer iMovie, but happy if the Conversion software only works with FCExpress (or even FCPro if that is the only alternative).
    1. If it matters, .MXF (Material Exchange Format) Video files came from shooting on a Panasonic 500 P2. Originally downloaded onto a Windows system, using Adobe Premiere.
    2. I just want to see and convert some of the shots I did for my Reel, etc., but I have a Mac.
    3. I have iMovie HD, iMovie 09, and FCExpress (which I don't know how to use that well).
    4. When I attach an External HD with backup files of all the footage shot, they show up named as .MXF files. They appear as VLC files (VLC icon), but the suffix is .MXF.
    5. When I try to play them as VLC files, they won't play. It seems they start to play, but then the VLC software quits.
    6. So I have tried downloading some software on the Internet that Google says converts .MXF files.
I tried: iSkysoft Video Converter, AVCWare Mac Video Converter, MPEG Streamclip, and a couple others. They all seem to have basically the same conversion setups, but when I click to pick one .MXF file, none of them recognize it. (The file in my Browse window is greyed out).
    7. MoyaVideo Converter for Mac recognizes the .MXF file, but when I hit the "conversion" button - I tried a couple different settings, all it seems to convert is the first frame. Even if the .MXF file says a clip is 123MB or 43 seconds long, etc.
    8. I can't even watch the clip in Preview. Press Play and it is just the first frame.
    9. I have read elsewhere in these forums, some people touting conversion software from a company in Germany - mfxformac. I am fine with paying for conversion software, but $500?
    10. And I have read elsewhere that only Final Cut Pro has a codec that will open .MXF files. If this is so, why do the above companies claim to have software that opens .MXF files for Mac?
    11. Isn't there a further problem if I can't even see the video using VLC? Or is that because I am using Mac and need FCPro with the right codec?
Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

MXF files from P2 can only be imported using FCP. iMovie can't, nor FCE...if you are talking about APPLE software. Avid deals with MXF files natively. But FCP will ONLY import them if the entire P2 card structure is intact. Please tell me that you have the entire P2 card backups. If not, then it won't work. If you do...then here is the process for importing into FCP:
    P2 Workflow with FCP 6
    3. I have iMovie HD, iMovie 09, and FCExpress (which I don't know how to use that well).
Then you need someone to provide you with QT files of this footage. None of them work with P2.
NONE of the converters you listed will work... Sorry.
    9. I have read elsewhere in these forums, some people touting conversion software from a company in Germany - mfxformac. I am fine with paying for conversion software, but $500?
That software is to get it to work with Final CUt Pro natively. What it doesn't do is convert the footage to QTs. There is also Raylight and Calibrated...but again, they are for FCP.
P2 is a professional format, and to use it you need professional software. iMovie won't work...nor will FCE. If you need to work with it in those formats, you need to have someone import the files and convert them to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec).
HD Log might work...but not sure what QT format it converts to. A demo is available.

  • FREE RAM XP PRO for MAC?

Just wondering if there is anything similiar to the PC program FreeRAM for Macs?
This is a program that automatically or manually restores wasted RAM but I think that it only runs on Windows.
    thanks,
    frank

    Hello,
Those types of programs have been available for PC's and Macs for years (though I don't know of any current version for OS X).
In short, every one that has ever been released has later been proven to fail to accomplish what it claimed. Most of them, actually decrease the amount of free RAM (at minimum by the amount of space required for the controlling program). But, at best, no real benefit has been proven.
I've tinkered with a few several years ago, and it turned-out to be artificial gains. No real gains. Just perceived benefits and no real actual memory savings / increase. Often, the computer would report more memory available, but in truth that wasn't the case.
I would personally recommend staying away from such programs. Every time one has hit main-stream popularity, there was a mad rush mere months later to find a way to get rid of it.
You will not be doing yourself any favors installing such programs.
Aside from that, there has not yet been a memory management system released yet that surpasses OS X's management yet.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is it safe to download a "free" youtube video converter for MAC and if so, which one is recommended?

Is it safe to download a "free" Youtube video converter (Ex. "freemake.com") for MAC or is there a better program recommended to convert these videos to DVD?  Thanks!

Youtube's ToU specifically state that downloads of any content is prohibited unless there is a download button available for a particular video.

  • Is there a better video converter than QT pro for Mac?

The title pretty much says it all...
Is there a better video converter for macs? One that possibly is faster, and could handle muxed files?
I've asked arround a bit in other places, and I've searched online, and what I can find is pretty much all for PC.

    Thanks.
Yeah,I searched those, and they seem to be like they are going to kick butt.

  • Are there any issues with Mavericks OS with Office for Mac

Has anyone had any problems using Office for Mac software on the new Mavericks OS 10.9
    (Macbook Pro)?

I have been having MAJOR problems with outlook office Mac 2011 and Mavericks (Macbook Pro Retina early 2013).
The issue seems to be intermittent with POP and IMAP email accounts, and I suspect it may be related to the keyring and outlook mac 2011 interactions with the keyring.
Intermittently my POP and IMAP accounts refuse to work, and I get asked to re-enter the password (and did I want to save it in the keyring) when I already did that.
A suggestion over on the Microsoft Office Mac forum was to delete the account and re-enter it (credentials for the POP and IMAP) into Outlook.  Did that, and still having intermittent issues.
This is causing be considerable GRIEF as I rely on these email accounts for time critical business issues, and failing to get emails is a disaster for us!
Word, Excel and PowerPoint all appear to be behaving ok under Mavericks so far, but Outlook is proving to be quite difficult!!!
    Anyone else with these experiences???
    Apple Support are you watching???

  • Is there an existing balance and vibration monitor program for LabView for rotating machinery?

I want to test generators for ballance and vibration, and shaft critical frequency. The data is to be collected automatically and reports generated preferably with LabView. Can I buy a written program as a starting point? I know of the Sound and Vibration Toolkit, and am willing to buy it, but still prefer to start with a verified package. Currently we are using a Bently-Nevada standalone system that is limited in its capability. We are installing a new data collection system so have a lot of flexability.

    Good Morning,
Yes, we can put together a written program for collecting balance and vibration data for generators. There is a new tool to be announced April 30th, that goes beyond the sound and vibration toolset for machinery monitoring. We can use LabVIEW and our Dynamic Signal Acquisition hardware to capture accelerometer data, encoder/keyphasor data, and other rotational parameters. We can provide an off-line analysis set of software as well, or report the data to any existing Computer Machine Maintenance Software (CMMS) you need us to work with.
I'd be happy to discuss this with you further.

  • Is there a good but free word processor that's Mac compatible?

I don't know where else this question would belong so I just put it here. So, my question is: Is thier a free (but decent) word processor that's Mac compatible that I can download off of the internet? I've already used up my free trial of "Pages" that came with my iMac. I'd also like it to be able to save and print off text documents and also be PC compatible as well.

Hi, you already have Text Edit, I use BEAN//it's pretty good, but you can Google your requirements and there are quite a few "freebies"

  • Is there anyway to create a watched/monitored folder for actions (similar to distillar for PDFs)

Is there any way to set up a watched folder in Photoshop to automatically batch run an action on any image that is dropped into that particular folder?
Similar to how distillar works for PDFs.
I have Creative Suite Web Premium 5.5 so if any of the other packages in the suite will do the job please let me know as I can't seem to find it.
A droplet won't do the job as although the processing will take place on my machine - the image may be dropped into the folder by a colleague elsewhere.
    Thanks.

According to the Applescript Users Group, Batch hasn't worked since at least CS4, that's why the error messages. Darn Adobe, they  include it in their Scripting Guides.
This works, but depending on the action, you might get a dialog box that, again, Adobe in their stupidity have decided can't be turned off with scripting. This also renames duplicate files.

  • Free cd/dvd burner for mac os 10.7 - the version i have is roxio toast but in os10.7.5 when i try to open app - it said  can't open app because powerpc apps arent supported ?

    - the version i have is roxio toast but in os10.7.5 when i try to open app - it said  can't open app because powerpc apps arent supported ?
is there a free app download to burn cd/dvd for os10.7?

Depending on what type of CD/DVD you intend to burn, you may not need any 3rd party applications:
    - To burn data CDs or DVDs simply insert a blank disc, drag files to the empty FInder window that represents the disc, then click the burn button (I think t appears near the top of the finder window).
    - To burn music CDs just use iTunes
    - To create disk images from a CD or DVD use Disk Utility.  To burn .iso or .cdr images to disc use Disk Utility.
About the only type of disc burning that you may need a 3rd party application for is to create a DVD movie (iDVD used to do this but no longer a supported app).  I haven't ever needed anything outside of the built-in capabilities of OS X when it comes to burnig CD or DVD media.  One suggestion is to make sure to remove all of the Roxio software so that it doesn't interfere with the built-in OS X capabilities.
    Hope this heps.

  • OT free Bryce 5.0 for Mac and PC's

You will find it on the DAZ website. Ya just gotta love free stuff!

Hi Colin, Gee, I sure have forgotten a lot, havent used Bryce all summer, so I will have to fire it up now,,,,,,,
Oh, I forget how much fun it is!
I made a quick render, and then Save As, or Save to Disk or Render to Disk.
But I had forgotten that there isn't an option to save as .jpg, so I save it as a TIFF.
Then open it in Elements, and turn it into a .jpg or whatever. I change the color and do things to it also.
Then save as .psd or .jpg or whatever. I am glad I checked in to the forum, its going to rain, so soon as I finish pruning some shrubs, I will come back indoors and Bryce for a while.
Another thing I forgot to say, about the Screen Takeover situation, is if you want to keep Bryce running, go up to Hide Bryce,,,, just above Quit. But I forget and tend to leave too much stuff running, but this Mac never seems to complain much.
There must be a way to save as .jpg with Bryce, not having to go to Elements, I shall explore that later this afternoon,
    Jane
Also, Is there a way to set up "notify by email" when a topic that we are posting in, is getting answers? Forgetful me, I forget to come back to topics here that I need to read.
This is an option in some forums, probably is in this one too, just that I havent figured out how to select it yet,
    Thanks,
    Jane

  • How do connect my sony bravia tv as a monitor screen for mac pro

How do I connect my Sony Bravia tv as a monitor for my MacBook Pro? I have an hdmi lead with an adapter to the computer and get a picture of factory setting cosmos with some of the folders of my desktop going off the side of the tv screen.

If you have the right cable, and have set the right input on your Sony, then you need to adjust one thing.  Go to System Preferences>Displays>Set Mirroring.  I think you've got it set to Extended desktop, which means the Sony is just a HUGE extension of your Mac OSX desktop.
    That should fix your issue.
