Is there some bizarre reason why HP software makes hundreds of connections per minute to my c309a?

My firewall logs indicate that there are currently more than 300 connections between svchost an my printer. This is a UDP connection to port 161. This constitutes close to 90% of my network traffic. Tasklist indicates that the instance of svchost making these connections is being tasked by Pml driver HPZ12. Why in the world would a printer driver need to connect to a printer literally every 2 seconds all day and night? Is there some semi-plausible explanation for this or is this just another case of HP using morons as developers? I decided to just turn off my printer to stop this, but today when I booter up I suddenly got hundreds of attempts for svchost to connect out to, svchost.exe port 427 to 92.242.144.50 port 427 UDP svchost.exe port 1648 to 92.242.144.50 port 139 TCP This IP is some kind of error service and you are often redirected there if you try to go to a domain that doesn't exist. I decided to turn the printer back on and the attempted connections stopped and have not returned. Is there some way I can stop all these connections to my printer, or turn off the printer and not have my logs get filled up with other junk, or is HP software still the crap it always has been before? Is there a specific reason why apple did not incorporate hdmi into the thunderbolt displays and the new imacs? Everything on the market uses hdmi...they then add one to the new macbook pros, but none on the displays. Is there a reason?

These are User to User support Forums where we all help each other.  No one from Apple replies here.  Obviously we have no way of knowing why Apple does or doesn't choose to do something.

Is there a technical reason why I can't sync both my iCloud and Yahoo/Gmail contacts at once? I would like to be able to sync between all three services.

Definetely not. It's as simple as maintaining a single database and use it for iCloud, Google, Yahoo or any other... like it was earlier. It's just Apple being barbaric in their strategy to restrict use of competing devices and services.

Firefox has been running very slow, sluggish, and freezes up since Friday of this weekend. Is there any particular reason why? I also have Google Chrome and that is working fine.

  • Why does my mouse keep losing connection every minute

why does my mouse keep losing connection every minute, its not the batteries

I'm having the same issue.  Every so often it loses connection then re establishes. This goes on repeatedly.
If you change batteries while the computer is still active then it takes for ever to re connect.
Can't wait until someone replies to your question.

    Error Description:
The number of denied connections from the source IP address 10.0.0.X exceeded the configured limit. This may indicate that the host is infected or is attempting an attack on the Forefront TMG computer.

    Hi,
this may be a false/positive log record.
First check the services and applications on the effecting machine (NETSTAT -ANO) to see which connections the machine has established or tries to establish.
Check the machine against viruses and spyware.
if you don't find any viruses / spyware or "mysterious" connections, create a connection exception limit in the flood mitigation settings on your TMG Server:

  • Is there any valid reason why Wifi calling is not enabled and we have to wait until mid 2015?

It seems like it shouldn't have anything to do with the carrier since its completely off their network. It is a feature and function of the device. I've been living in a dead zone for over a year and was excited to hear Wifi calling was coming with the iOS 8 update. After updating today I found out that Verizon has no plans to enable a feature that Apple has made available now until mid 2015. According to the CFO Fran Shammo, "We built our voice platform so extensively [that] there was never a need for us to tell our customers, 'Oh, our network is not good enough so you need to go on Wi-Fi to complete your call." I know I'm not alone here in an area not covered by Verizon and as tempting as it is to buy their $250 network extender I'd much rather use a FREE alternative that is available NOW and has NO BEARING ON VERIZON'S SPOTTY NETWORK that I have the misfortune of living in.

Would love to have every carrier offer coverage everywhere.  Verizon may be the best nationwide, but they don't cover everywhere. When I travel WiFi calling works great in places with little to no coverage no matter what carrier I was using.  I end up using my T-Mobile lines when I travel to those locations.
I find places that don't have Verizon coverage tend to be the same areas that don't have broadband internet which renders wi-fi calling moot. Yes there are areas in my county that have poor or no service. As I aid these places do not have broadband internet either. So what good is wi-fi calling to them?
As far as T-Mobile I'd have to drive 70 miles just to get to a 4G area and over 40 miles to even get to an area that provides T-Mobile edge. Now if I'm using wi-fi for both calling and data then what am I paying T-Mobile for?

  • I don't have an HP printer any more, but Apple keeps trying to update my HP drivers, etc.  Is there some way I can fix software update to avoid this?

Very minor problem:  Software update keeps wanting to update my HP printer drivers; I don't have an HP printer any more, and I don't want to waste either the time or the space.  How do I tell the software update program I'm not interested in this particular item?

Is the printer still mentioned in System Prefs?

  • HT201335 Is there a technical reason why the first gen iPad will not mirror?

I have a first gen iPad running 5.1.1
I had 5.1 and that did not work either.
A new 2012 apple tv and no go on the mirroring. My iPhone 4a mirrors. Why can't the first gen iPad

I think the newer iPads have a 5 or 5x chip set.  What are they using in the first gen?
I never thought of my iPad as slow
I couldn't tell you off the top of my head.
Yes iPad 1 still seems good for me too, but the 3rd gen is noticeably smoother in use.
Absolute specs are really irrelevant - Apple have not allowed the iPad 1 to mirror and that's that - pretty much like older Macs pre 2011 not being able to do so due to lack of a CPU feature.

  • There was a reason why I don't use IE and you just copied it??????

I have always liked FIREFOX for it's speed and it simply was always the best browser. Not too long ago I tried IE 9 beta and I hated it as it was confusing. My nine year old also hated it. So I emailed Microsoft and got a response that it was to maximise screen size. I simly uninstalled it. Today I got Firefox 4 beta 8. After trying it I also uninstalled it. Looks like a IE clone and like IE I found it hard to find anything. My only real question is WHY????????????????

What don't you like about the Firefox 4 beta?
You can remove the orange Firefox button and enable the menu bar if you press the F10 key and place a checkmark on View > Toolbars > Menu Bar if that is what you mean.
You can remove the checkmark on "Tabs on Top" to place the Tab bar at its old position.

  • Why does NM make my Gmail connect on non-secure?

    Hi
    just wondering why this is?
Does this now mean that my Gmail Username / Password is passed in plain text because its not on SSL??
This seems to be rather a serious security concern. I would like an answer to this question to determine if I continue with this mail product. I would rather have manual secure connection than insecure automation
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It would seem (after a discussion with Nokia care) that my concerns of security are unfounded.
The rep said that no user authentication was sent between the phone and my gmail. The pathway was that Nokia took my credentials (as discussed) at account creation and then harvested my mail and passed it on to my phone when it arrived.
I assume my phone must authenticate to Nokia when its online so as they know to push it up to me.
So to test this I put in a "lalala" password into my gmail account settings on the phone, restarted it to see if it would connect
    It did
This at least allays my fears that password was being passed around in the clear. If it were connecting to Gmail with my phone based credentials it would not be able to connect with 'lalalala'
So clearly then only them mail content itself is passed in the clear.
    I can live with that

  • Why does my Pages icon bounce 2x per minute?

Is it trying to tell me something? If so what? Otherwise, how do I turn it off, it is annoying.

Try command - option/alt - esc. In the window that comes up, see if Pages is listed. If so, select it and Force Quit.

  • Why is the window for entering bookmarks so small? Is there any reason why it cannot be resizable so that users can expand it if necessary.

I have a problem with the window size when entering bookmarks. I would like to expand the window so that I do not have to scroll down through the many folders I have.
Is there any special reason why the window is a fixed size? As far as I can see there should not be any problem with having a window which users can expand if necessary.
    Thank you,
    Sasha
