Is there some simple PfR documentation out there?

We are not a large organization by any means:  we have an MPLS network with the HQ and 8 branch offices.  We have a backup MPLS via another supplier.
In the past we had a 6513 at the core of our network and we used a combination of EIGRP with the variance command plus PBR to accomplish the following:    we prefered one provider for certain mission critical traffic, unless that provider was down then all traffic went over the other link.  As long as both links were up, non-mission critical traffc was shipped proportionately over the backup link and the remaining bandwidth of the prefered link.  Ugly to look at, but simple to implement and worked like a charm.
Now, we bought expensive Nexus equipment to replace the 6513 and, well, EIGRP variance command is no longer part of the set.
I'm left with PfR on the two routers which is infinately more complex than what we need.
Every document  I read about configuring OER/PfR is more essoteric than the one before it.  It's not that there isn't good stuff out there, but getting to the heart of the matter "how do I configure a simple set up" is not to be had.  The info I need to get to is burried under features, design, and marketing hype.
Is there anything out there that shows a very simple set up?  I should have thought a simple access-list type definition for my prefered networks pointing them to provider A plus some way to ration out the remaining packets would not take so long to ferret out but here I am weeks later still reading and not making much progress.
To date I have GNS3 set up and PfR is "enabled and active" on the simulated links.  I just need to translate my once-upon-a-time working ACL/PBR configuration into the PfR syntax.  It's harder than it sounds.
Thanks for any links or examples.

Both these post links contain very helpful info and I've seen some other posts besides that do help but, still running into problem with this. Steve you touched on this in a conversation with our SE and myself on a conference call.
Here's the situation. I need...am MANDATED in fact, to prefer one provider for certain types of traffic, then load balance based on available bandwidth the remaining traffic.
Item one is easy: preferred link groups. But everything I read says that function  is mutually exclusive with load balancing based on bandwidth. So what am I to do? Tell my employer the million dollar investment in Nexus was a mistake?
I hate to sound so frustrated but this PfR solution, while useful to large shops and ISP's, is convoluted to say the least, and overkill for a shop that has a fairly static amount of traffic over an two MPLS networks that simply aren't impacted by many (if any) external factors. Life was fine with EIGRP, variance, and a small number of PBR statements. While that wasn't exactly 'load balanced' perfectly, it was close enough to satisfy the requirements.  It worked well for 5 years and because of how EIGRP worked, failure of any link was undetected by end users.  Simple, clean, effective.
And here's an unrelated question that has plagued me throughout my studies of PfR:  if I have a link that is suffering performance degredation do I really need both passive and active probes adding traffic to that link trying to determine if/when it's time to fall back to it?  Sounds kind of like when I'm trying to fix a problem and my boss is constantly over my shoulder saying, "is it fixed yet, is it fixed yet?"!  How exactly is this helping?
I really need variance back.  without it, I'm not seeing anyway to meet my mandate.

I'm burning dvd's that won't play on a regular dvd player.  What am I doing wrong?  They play fine on computers but not on dvd players.  Are there some simple things to check to figure this out?  (Sorry, I know this has been asked many times).  Created in DVD studio pro.

    Hi
Just my thoughts to add to the excellent answers above.
    • BRAND of DVD used - Matters when doing Video-DVDs
Memorex, NoName etc cheap brands usually do NOT work
I only Use Verbatim (more organic dye in these)
    • Type of DVD - matters
    - DVD+/RW - usually results in problems
    - DL-DVDs are more problematic than SL-DVDs
    - DVD+R are a more modern sort - BUT PLAYS BADLY or not at all on older DVD-players
    I only use DVD-R
    • BURN SPEED - matters
    - Best in iDVD app - IS NOT BEST at all but results in lot's of Burn Errors = Doesn't play well or at all
I set this down to x2 or x4 max.

  • Are there some simple start up instructions for a first time user of Lion Server?

Our small office has been using MobileMe to share one central calendar on a mac mini with 4 users MBPro users.  We were also using a 3rd party application (Address Book Server (ABS)) to share a central Address Book contact database with the same 4 users.  It was all working fine.  Then we upgraded all our systems to Lion and iCloud.  Calendar sharing works fine, but it broke our contact sharing.  ABS used the old sync capability.  Now all our contacts are on iCloud, and they won't sync anymore.
Does anyone know if there is a way to share contacts among several users in iCloud?  (I haven't found one.)
We are now considering Lion Server, but all we need it for is sharing contacts (shared calendars under iCloud works fine).
Can we install Lion Server for just contacts and continue to use iCloud for calendar sharing?
Is there some simple Start up documentation available for Lion Server that I can read before I jump into it?
How much time is it really going to take to install and manage a server system?
We are not IT professionals.  Just a small office of professionals, who want the conveninece of shared calendars and shared contacts.  We all have our own calendars and contacts as well, and we want to be able to see them on all our devices: MBPros, iPhones, iPads etc.
Thanks so much for your help.

You can use Lion Server in place of the MobileMe/iCloud account. That would be your best bet. Lion Server has built into it an address book server and a calendar server which would take the place of what you are currently using.
Lion Server is designed to be quite easy to setup and run. It is pitched as being meant for people who "don't have an IT Department." Honestly, most of it is just on/off switches. If you have a Mac Mini and all of your users are on their MacBook Pros, you pretty much have the hardware necessary. Assuming all of your machines can run Lion, you should be good to go.
The most technical you might have to get is to get a domain name from some place like godaddy.com. The Server App actually walks ou through the whole setup process step-by-step. Not to mention that there is a vibrant community of users to be help out. And once it is up and running, there is very little you should have to do to it.
There are a lot of technical components to any server platform, and Apple is no exception, however they do a good job at hiding it. And at $49, you do not have much to lose. Plus, you only really need to use the components you want. If all you want in address book server and ical server, then just use those. You find you want to start sharing documents, turn on file sharing. It is up to you. Don't feel pressured to have to use every component.
Apple has posted they "Advanced Administration Guide" which has a lot of good information in it, and it is searchable. Check it out: https://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/10.7/

i don't want to do the recovery thing to my iPhone4, but my iPhone is at the stage in the update where it says to plug it into iTunes, is there some way to get out of this or save all of my data somehow?

What do you mean the "update" says plug it into iTunes? If you have the iTunes logo/USB cord on the screen, it's in recovery mode or needs to be activated. Anything that was on the phone is already gone. You have no choice but to plug it into the computer. Hopefully, you backed it up before you started the update.
If that's not what you mean, then please explain.
Apple may or may not be able to fix the lock button for you without replacing the phone entirely. You'll have to take it in and ask.

  • Hi there how are you guys out there of this forum? I got a question for y'a

Hi there how are you guys out there of this forum? I got a question for y’all
I wanted to know how I could record different folders using iTunes
Cause when recorded 2000 thongs on the DVD
There were 2000 songs to go through
So I really wanted to have had folders and then the music recorded inside them
So I could get right to where I wanted real quickly
Could anyone please teach me how to do that real quickly?
Can we do it with iTunes?
I know we can do it with Nero.

    1) Go to file, select new playlist. Creat the playlaist.
    2) Download your music into iTunes.
NOTE: CHECK 'Recently Added' before you download your music.
If the select boxes has a check in them, turn it off by
holding down the 'ctrl' key and selecting one of the
checked boxes. This shold turn off all the checks.
It would be better to clear 'Resently Add' of all
previous downloads, but I don't know how to do that
    yet.
    3) under 'PLAYLIST' on the right, select 'Recently Add'.
all of your song should show there with a check in the selection
    box.
4)Hold the shift key and select the frist (selete records name),
then the last recorded tune. All of the recordings shouls light
    up blue.
    5) While holding the 'shift' key, drag one of the records to your new
playlist. All of the blue highlighted song will transfer to the new
    playlist.

Check how many applications are starting when you log in, I found that if there was a lot of activity at login Finder did not display the icons on the desktop correctly, again like you it did not occur at every login, just occasionally.
For Safari have you tried resetting Safari, if that does not help you could disable plugins and extensions one at a time. You may find one of those is causing the problem.

Apple TV2 reset. "Unknown" error occurred (9) ? Have tried reset 3 times. Is there a hard reset trick out there.?

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source List
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • There has to be someone out there that knows the a...

I've been researching threads from as far back as 2005 and apparently this problem has been going on unsolved for some time. When some phones (mine is an N96, but i've read all  different Nokia models experiencing the same problem) are either reset or upgraded (in my case it was a reset) they develop the problem of not being able to download jar files. The file will look like it's loading but only makes it to about 3/4's of the way before a "cannot install this file" message appears. It takes about 15 to 20 seconds before the loading bar disappears and the message appears, but during the wait, the phone is crippled. Resetting the phone with soft or hard reset does nothing to solve the problem, I even tried the 3 finger reset and nada! Possibly, some file or files that allows the unit to download the jar files is missing, because of the reset. It has nothing at all to do with the files to be downloaded. It is in  the phone. Someone out there has got to know if there is a file or whatever that can be reinstalled into the phone to reestablish jar file downloads again! There has to be a tech out there that knows exactly what files are responsible for giving Nokia phones the ability to download jar files.       JL2

No prob.  Ok! This is the answer that Nokia technical sent me. I just want to say that this is bull*h*t, because before I reset my phone I downloaded and used Jar only downloads. Trapster is one I lost. Also if you go on line you will read many people with s60 models experiencing the same thing . Anyway, here it is.                                 [ I understand that you are unable to install .jar files on your Nokia N96 phone.
Rick, we manufacture different phones with different platform. Our earlier phones were S40 (Series 40) phone. Those phoneS supported .jar files or applications.
However, our smart phones S60 (Series 60) such as your Nokia N96 phone are compatible with .sis files or application. Due to the robustness, and compression capability of .sis format for S60 platform, we have no plans to revert to the old .jar platform for S60 phones.
Sis format allows us to add a wide range of features that are not available in the S40 .jar platform.
I hope this information helps clarify any misconception.]       I GUESS I'LL NEVER FIND THE ANSWER!!

  • Are there any reliable training providers out there?

I'm looking to take training (preferably with certification) in Configuring Advanced Windows Server 2012 Services and would like some recommendations as to credible training
organisations in the UK? Haven't got any experience with training providers so any advice would be appreciated.

    Hey Steven
Course there is, you will find out that there are good and bad training providers out there, to get the most out of training I would recommend looking at practical based courses when you are searching for courses. A credible one I would recommend to you
from past experience  is Aardvark Training and Consulting. From looking at their site they deliver the exact course that you are looking for.
    Here's a link for you

  • Is there an interactive iWeb tutorial out there?

Is there an interactive iWeb tutorial that teaches you every aspect of iWeb by guiding you through the creation of an iWeb website from start to finish? One that addresses everything involved in iWeb by a guided instructional tour which makes you end up with a complete website? One that would not just skim the broad contours and main ideas but would also touch the small nooks and crannies of understanding?
I would not care that it would be a generic website having nothing to do with me; what I would appreciate is being put through the paces to deal with every button and setting in iWeb. With that kind of knowledge I could turn around and make my personal website. But is there such an interactive iWeb tutorial?
    — Lorna in Southern California

Not really. There are a lot of tutorial pages out
there...mostly for "extras" for iWeb...editing of
HTML, adding things, etc. But you are right, there
probably is a space to be filled in making a manual
for iWeb....since one doesn't really exist. All of
us here have basically made our own websites and
learned along the way. I suspect just in the last
couple of days, your own learning curve for iWeb has
shot way up. And I hope you are having fun with it.
Because if it wasn't fun, I don't know if it would
    be worthwhile.
Oh, it IS fun for me. If it were not, I would not be so ON it like white on rice. I am fascinated by it, but instinctively I want to get a lot of questions answered and out of the way. There have been some actions I have tried to do here on my Deskto within iWeb, flying by the seat of my pantaloons, that I have not bothered you all with. It's really hit and miss that way. So far I have a picture of my labrador retriever Cheyenne on the Bazaar Welcome page, but I have had no luck with applying background color to the picture or text applied the right way. I also clicked on all those Blank links, and nothing happened, so I am presuming that they are there as markers rather than as actual links.
That's why I asked about the tutorial.
But I do enjoy this! I would be so 200 miles away if I did not!

  • Are there any web-based products out there for client project and interaction...

    Dear Web Designers,
Is there any open source, free, php software packages out there (or web products - a doc com tool) that allows a web designer freelancer (like me) who has their own business to take in client requests or new project request descriptions and requests from anyone and allow me to respond back with an answer, a timeline, status on the project etc etc. (besides just a standard contact us form - is there any project managment tool for web designers that works well for that?)
    Andrew

Sure.  There are lots & lots of them.  It depends on your coding skills, which scripts and databases your server supports, and how many bells & whistles you want.

  • Are there any downloadable games still out there for 2nd Generation iPod?

I am searching for games that will download on an older iPod. Purchased two 2nd generation iPods on Ebay and am having trouble getting any games that are compatabile. Are there any still out there. Purchased these for 2 grandchildren. Help. Not only are there games, how do I download them. Can I do it from my computer? Can't find any in the app store on the iPod itself or have I just not looked hard enough.

They are there, but it's not easy to find these days.  At least your iPod touch can run iOS 4.2.  My old original iPhone can only run up to iPhone OS 3.1.3...
I used to be able to go into an app category in iTunes (on the computer), and sort the listing by release date, newest to oldest.  Then, I could go to the end of the list, and the older apps/games would be the ones that worked with the older hardware and iOS versions.  However, this method does not seem to work well anymore.  The lists do not appear to go back far enough, so the apps at the end of the list are still fairly new.
I found an app recently.  It's called VintApps.  You can go to the App Store using iTunes on the computer and search for it.  It costs 99 cents.  I can set it to "filter" based on iOS limitation (and other factors).  I can then browse in app categories (in the app), and it shows me lists based on the criteria.  Selecting an app from the list provides its description.  This lets me find apps that work with 3.1.3 (or 4.2 in your case)
Because older devices are slower (with a small screen), what I do is use VintApps on my iPhone to find something that looks interesting.  Then, I use iTunes on my Mac to find that app in the App Store.  If it looks good, I get it there (using my computer's iTunes) and sync it to my iPhone.
