Is there something on the iMac that will slow down access to parts of a web site?

Hi,
I have a dedicated server with a few web sites that I manage. All of the sites but one are instantly access. The one site in question, we can get instant access all parts except one folder (a public folder located in root).  Friends around the world can access this folder instantly (1-2 secs). Friends down the road from us on another IPS can access instantly. Even my ISP can access this folder instantly.  For me on my iMac desktop OSX 10.5.6 , it takes anywhere from 15-30 secs to access the folder or pages within. My wife's macbook OSX10.5.6 takes 30-90 secs (and sometimes times out). This only started being an occasional  problem about 2-3 weeks ago. Now its all the time.
So my question is, is there something in OSX that can cause a restriction?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,
For a test, turn off IPv6:
System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
Or whatever interface you connect with.

  • HT1695 I have a iPhone 4 and i constantly have to keep connectiong to my wifi at home y is this and is there anything in the settings that will fix it to where u dont have to keep connecting it I want my wifi to automatically connect to it.

In need of help if there is any I have a iPhone 4 and every time I turn around I have to connect to wifi all the time it don't just automatically connect on its own like my iPhone 3GS did so if there is something i can do to make my wifi stay connected please help

Problem persisted after fixes were done so wife called apple today.           Their fix is to turn cellular off when in the house and turn it back on when she leaves- the 4 doesn't keep the password so she has to enter the password too... This wasn't a fix ...it's just resolving the connection problem... They also said that they made ios6 have security features so nobody can hack into the wifi without having the password and it has to be entered to use the wifi.  My 5 and the iPads stay on with no problems.  It's just the 4.        So far so good...she's had wifi all day when home.    It's inconvenient but it's either completely reboot it with iTunes (which doesn't work for her) or buy a new phone and she won't do that either.
So...Apple is saying that she didn't have to do the updates either and could've stayed with the previous iOS     but !!!too late now!!!  We've updated because we think our phones will run better but the ios6 just made it a pita for users
I wonder if the hackers of the world are having as many issues as the peeps who are just trying to use their wifi??

Or will I have to buy a new iMac to get all these new updates ??
It would be a shame if I did because my iMac is only 6months old if that ..
Kind regards Simon Trott Apple user and proud of it

We're not allowed to speculate on future or rumoured Apple products, but we all know there'll always be newer tech coming along.
The iMac you have is an excellent machine, be happy with it and get a good few years use out of it. By the time your machine is slowing down, whatever comes next will have been updated numerous times.
    I had the 2011 i5 27" delivered about 3 weeks ago. It's a cracking machine

  • Is there something in the Yosemite OS that will do what MacKeeper does?

Is there something in the Yosemite OS that will do what MacKeeper does?
If there is, what is it called and how do I use it?

Sure, but the author asks: Is there something in the Yosemite OS that will do what MacKeeper does? and not the how to uninstall?, is it a scam? etc.
it looks weird when you search for help and see these...
Here one more thing that can be used by means of finder and can be of interest to the author:
    Open a new Finder window
In the search field, enter the wild card asterisk symbol
Make sure the Size and Kind columns are displayed
Filter the results by Kind, and you will see the list of similar items
This method is fairly accurate because it shows identical files listed by name, type, and size. Just delete any files that you don’t want to keep but make sure they really are duplicates first. Unfortunately, this method doesn’t let you determine whether the files are true byte-level copies but there is enough information presented to be able to make an informed decision.

  • Is there a DJ app for the Ipad that will read the "start" and "stop time" setting for each individual song, as they are set in the song Options screen in Itunes?

Is there a DJ app for the Ipad that will read the "start" and "stop time" setting for each individual song, as they are set in the song Options screen in Itunes? The Ipod Touch, by itself does not allow cross-fading, therefore when the stop time is edited short, the song jusst truncates then goes to the next song. I tried the DJay ap and while it would crossfade, it would NOT read the song settings for the stop marker. So now I want to try and Ipad and see if there is an app that will READ the Itune stop settings within the song. I do NOT want an app that will allow me to DO the stop marker. I want an app that will READ the stop marker from the song as it is set in Itunes.

Itunes provides the option for setting the Start and Stop times of each music track.  However, the start and stop times do not synchronize to the iPhone.  I don't understand why this option is even available as it doesn't work when listening to music on the phone.  I have not found another application that will support the start and stop time markets.  I have searched quite a bit for this but can't find anything.  I hope we can find something.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
      1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)

      5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
      6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)

No pre-installed app that will do all that, and yes, you could buy iWork - or you could download the free (although they do seek donations) LibreOffice: http://www.libreoffice.org/ or OpenOffice: http://www.openoffice.org/porting/mac/

Yep, two of the most popular apps are "LogMeIn Ignition" and "iTeleport." Check them out, they'll both set you back by about 30$ though.

    "Motion 5" is your friend.
Michael Wohl has a nice 15 video series (free) about Motion 5 at http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/motion5101-overview-and-workflow-guide (right side)
This is a "teaser" series to sell his tutorials but it is really good. Just saw it yesterday for the first time.
While all you want is just to place pins, realize that Motion has so much more. All kinds of effects and they can be really customized. Maybe put their street address, contact name, and phone number by the pin?
Motion 5: cheap at $49.99 (just got my download two days ago)
    Motion 5: Support Community athttps://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/motion_5
If you're using the map for, say, deliveries, and use an iPad, what you could do is have a general map of the area imported into Motion, create the pins and whatever, then save (share?) it to the iPad.
Disclaimer: I have virtually no relationship with anything connected with this tutorial product, developer, or anything.

  • There is a 3 inch section of the window that will not recognize the mouse. It will not let you click on the icons or screen in any way in this section under the address bar. It is only in firefox where this is a problem

There is a 3 inch section of the window that will not respond or recognize the mouse. It will not let you click on the icons or screen in any way. This is the only program we are experiencing this problem with.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I had this problem too, I fixed it by going to my settings and under general at the bottom there is a reset option, go there. One of the options should be reset network settings, select that one. I’m not sure why it happens but that worked for me; hope you have the same luck!

There is no mobile data connection required to use GPS on land or sea. Once again your issue is the availability of downloadable maps/charts for the areas you will be traveling.
Sorry, but you can't install an app like NAVIGON on an iPad without 3G cellular data connection:
    copied from NAVIGON app:
...can be installed on any iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4S, iPhone5 or iPad device (the navigation function is only available on the iPad WiFi+3G)
Can I navigate with my mobile phone?
Answer:In principle yes. For mobile phones there are both Onboardnavigation solutions and Offboardnavigation solutions.
The following requirements must be fulfilled:
    •     The software must support the mobile phone. NAVIGON software
always comes with a compatibility list. The software is guaranteed
to work only for the mobile phones on this list.
    •     The mobile phone must have a GPS receiver. Many new mobile
phones come with a built-in GPS receiver. Otherwise you can use
an external GPS receiver which is connected to the mobile phone
           by cable or Bluetooth.
    •     It should be noted that an offboard solution incurs costs for using
the mobile phone network to communicate with the provider's server.

Is there a protective travel case for the iPad2 that will cover the smart cover as well?

There are a variety of well-made sleeves from SF Bags which will accommodate the Smart Cover. I'm partial to the neoprene bags and sleeves from Bult NY and I use this "hoodie" netbook sleeve (in black) for extra protection when I'm traveling or in the field because it has a rigid shell to protect the back and sides:

For everyday, I slip my iPad, with the SmartCover on, into a small neoprene messenger bag, whose 6 pockets hold my iPad, a wireless keyboard (in a sleeve from SF Bags), Kindle, iPad, and cables /chargers:
