Is there something that auto reinstalls old packages from cache?
You pacman -Syu and something broke - you dont have time to figure out what. All you know is that 20 minutes ago your configuration worked and that you have not pacman -Sc yet. You can figure out later what went wrong, right now you just want a worked system.
Is there something that already that scans the cache and at least lists the packages that are in the cache that are not installed? So that you can quickly just pacman -S $(them) ???

lists highest version of all installed packages found in your cache not including the installed version. good luck managing that output
/edit: the better approach would be to tail /var/log/pacman.log and reverse whatever the -Syu just did using the pacman -U command mentioned before.

Is there something that needs to be done in response to deadlock victims?
So, Friday I got a report by one user about an unusual error seen. It appeared to be a one time error that went away when the page refreshed.
I went to the logs, tried to find an associated message to see if there were actions to take.
(Boy, I wish there were a series of books for SP admins that covered all the event and ULS log entries and what action to take to resolve them)
When I got onto one of the farm servers to look at logs, the event log had a number of unusual warnings and errors.
I am taking a look at some of these to see if there is something that needs to be done.
One of the errors - which has occurred 3 times in December - is related to the search software. One says "Foundation Search" and the other two say "Server Search".
So, are these the kinds of things that an admin should just ignore at this noise level (3 in 2 weeks) or is there something that should be done?
The warning is 57 and says that a database error occurred - a transaction was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and was chosen as the deadlock victim.
The first 2 times the application was Search_Service_Application, while the most recent occurrence was
'Search_index_file_on_the_search_server'.Hi Iwvirden,
Deadlocks on SharePoint databases may cause performance issues in SharePoint.
So if the error occurs on SharePoint content databases and occurs many times, then you need to troubleshoot this issue in SQL:

If the deadlocks occur on Search databases, then you can ignore them if there are not too many errors.

By the way, the errors about search displayed in the ULS log should be checked as these errors may influence your search function.

Was this book downloaded using iBooks, or from another application? If it was from iBooks you will need to install that application to delete it.

Hello, If you are dealing with one of the really thin iMac's that have no superdrive, then the superdrive icon should not appear on the desktop when you plug it in, but when you put in a disk (CD, DVD, etc.) that should appear. If you go into disk utility, and look at superdrive, that should be clickable and not grayed out when you have it plugged in. If this does not show up in disk utility, go to Apple, and ask to speak to their supervisor, speaking to a customer service agent is like talking to a potato, nothing gets done. Good Luck!

Looking for "Manage My Devices" on "My Account" screen. It is not there. Trying to delete old device from account.
It should be under Store > View My Account > iTunes In The Cloud > Manage Devices. That screen can't be used to deauthorise computers, only change the automatic download status.

FF Browser 5 loads itself very slowly and takes so long with no sign that it is loading that many times I will click it again and later find that it has loaded itself twice.
Is there anything that I can do to speed the start-up of this browser?
It seems that if there is not a way to load this browser faster that FireFox would make an add on that would show us that the Browser is in process of loading at the very least. Thank you for your kindness in any way for help in this regard. Best Regards

Or were you referring to the one in the old temporary replacement device? Would that even be compatible with the newer phones?
The one that wasn't working had a 4G LTE SIM card in it. It should have usable in the replacement Razr. It was only until I read the OP a third time this morning that there might be a third device involved. It would be nice if people would give more specifics on what devices are active at what time. Then the readers of this community can follow the progression of the events better. -
When I rent a movie using Apple TV,it takes several hours to load. At this point, I opt to watch later. When I try to watch the movie, it starts loading again and tells me that it will be ready to watch in one hour forty four minutes. This can't be normal. Is there something I am doing wrong? If it's taking several hours then that is likely due to your internet connection. You can verify at speedtest.net

You can switch to SD in the settings (which only requires 3mbps)
You can also check istumbler or netstumbler for interference
Make sure you are on your ISPs DNS
The reloading is normal. There is no accessible storage on ATV. The small flash is used for caching streamed content, if you access other things or turn the device off it will be flushed. -
My problem is that when using face time either I can hear the person and they cannot hear me or they can hear me and I cannot hear them. Is there something I need to do in the controls to take care of this issue? Thank you for your response.

Since you sometimes can hear, and sometimes can be heard, your iPad is probably working OK.
But what about the other parties? Is it always the same prson who can not hear you? Is it always the same (but different) person you can not hear? In other words, the problems could be at the other end.
You and your friends might try the Skype App. Once registered, you can access Skype's test server to check your audio. It lets you speak for several seconds, and then plays it back.

My personal choice would be to use MPEG Streamclip (free) with the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20) installed to manually convert your files. This does, however, assumed that you cane either download/copy your DVD content directly from the camcorder to your hard drive or can do so from the DVD when inserted into your computer. This, therefore, assumes that you have finalized the DVD (if required) and it is either inserted into the computer or the camcorder is properly connected, powered, and recognized as an external device. In most cases, users forget to "finalize" their DVD and most devices (other than the camcorder itself) will not recognize the content until the disc is properly closed. -

I wrote a small bash script that removes packages (from cachedir /var/cache/pacman/pkg), older than the ones available in repositories (eg. if the current version of pacman is 2.6.3, it will remove pacman-2.6.2 from cachedir). It implements the functionality of debian's 'apt-get autoclean'.

Pacman. Cannot install previously uninstalled package from cache

I'm trying to install packages from shared cache to keep few machines in sync. I thought using "pacman -U --needed /path/to/cache/*" would solve it. However when I started testing I've noticed that when one package is removed I cannot install it back that way. Pacman will just skip that package for some reason. If i use the same command but specify the the package /path/to/package/package_name or even first letter followed by * it will also install it. Why is that?Is it possible that the '*' is expanded in some unexpected way?
I'm not using nfs, I tested it by uninstalling aurphan and running
$ sudo pacman -U --needed /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*
