Is there supposed to be an iLife disc in my Mac Mini box?

I bought a Mac Mini today! First Mac ever.
Is there supposed to be an iLife '08 DVD in this box?
When I bought my mac, the seal on the Mac Mini box was broken. The guy at Best Buy said if anything was missing, to just bring it back and they'd take care of it. All the cables and the remote seem to be here. In the little grey "envelope" there's two grey discs which claim to be Mac OS X install discs, and there's a Leopard update disc... but no iLife '08 disc. Is iLife supposed to come on a seperate disc, or is it just installed along with OS X?
iLife is preinstalled, of course, but I'd like to know I can reinstall it if my hard drive goes nova on me.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions, and the Mac World
iLife 08 will be on the Mac Mini install disc (grey).
It's a system-specific install disc rather than an OS X install disc.
cheers

  • Is the Mini-Dvi adapter suppose to click into the back on the Mac mini?

Is the Mini-Dvi adapter suppose to click into the back on the Mac mini? It does on my mac book but not on the Mac mini. I sort of have to just jam it in there, no nice clicking sound, and it does not feel very secure.

If after 'jamming it in there' it actually works, then at least you know it's the correct type of adapter. However, if it doesn't work, you are definitely not inserting it correctly or into the correct location. In either case, you may have a damaged port - all the connections on the rear when applied correctly with anything like a decent quality standard type connector should work smoothly. You should never have to 'jam' anything into the back of your mini.

  • Help! Can't download Logic Studio 8 from disc on newer Mac mini.

This is my first post, and I'm a long time Mac lover, but am not super great at knowing my system as well as I should, and am only fair at "tech speak". I just upgraded to a Mac mini with a 2.5 GHz Intel i5, and am running Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b). I have Logic 8 from my previous system that I want to download from disc to my new system (my old Power PC iMac is gone in a hand-me-down, so it is not available). I popped in the install disc, and it came up with a message that says Power PC software is no longer supported. I have been looking at other posts trying to ascertain what to do, and have been seeing information about Rosetta, using older versions of OSX, running parallel systems, and all sorts of other possible fixes from varying years of postings. I am wondering if there is anything I can do, that doesn't take a boat load of cash, to make this work on my current set up. As well, I want to again apologize to all you Mac Masters out there if I seem like a noob to some of this, it's because I am. I would appreciate any help you can give, and thank you all in adavnce.

    Hi

  • Is there a way to run Internet Explorer on a Mac mini with mountain lion?

I need to access a professional website that only works with IE (don't get me started on THAT) I need to do billing using this site so need to have full functionality.  Is there a way to run IE on my mac mini with mountain lion?

The key takeaway here is that yes, you can access Windows 7 (and IE 9) from OS X Mountain Lion.
The crucial question is about your workflow. If you need concurrent access to both Windows 7 and Mountain Lion, then the Bootcamp solution included with Mountain Lion would not be the right choice. You would need one of the virtualization solutions.
If you need helpdesk support from a paid product, rather than entirely from a community forum, then the latest Parallel's Desktop or VMware would be a matter of choice, with Parallel's the better decision at this point. Either of these products are under $100, in addition to the cost of a Windows 7 license. You may need the Windows 7 installation media as an .ISO file, rather than on DVD. Check requirements.
By example, I use Oracle's VirtualBox (free) on Mountain Lion, with a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit guest. The interactive and network performance of this Windows guest are more than adequate on my 2011 mini. I assigned 3 GB memory and 2 of 4 processor threads to the Windows 7 guest. I also restricted guest CPU use to 80%. VirtualBox is installed on my SSD, but the Windows guest is on an external HDD. That is not a default configuration. There are multiple choices for display; from full-screen 1920x1200 (mine) to an isolated resizeable window, to seamless integration with OS X. The Apple keyboard, bluetooth devices (trackpad/mouse), and printer all are recognized. I also have a shared OS X folder with VirtualBox, and copy/paste integration.
I use VirtualBox as it meets my support (forum) and functional requirements.
    Best wishes,

  • Problem of reinstallation preinstalled iWorks and iLife of a rebought Mac Mini

I bought an old Mac Mini at ebay. iWorks and iLife are preinstalled. But when I restored the Mac, I didnt have these softwares anymore.
I went to App Store, it said that this Mac Mini has the softwares to be updated (iWorks, iLife) but I cannot download them because they are associated to the Apple ID of the previous user.
Have you guys ever encounter this problem ? Do you know how to solve it ?
    Many thanks

Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion
If you erase install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion installed, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
After installation, start (up) from OS X.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

  • Disc stuck in mac mini

The machine will not recognize it, even when holding in "x" and/or the mouse button upon startup. I tried to get to open firmware (to type in 'eject disc' at prompt), but when holding command, option, "o" and "f" at startup, I end up at the root menu, not open firmware. I would rather not take the mini apart if possible, so any ideas would be apperciated. Also, I checked, and my keyboard does allow for 4 simultaneous keystrokes.

Well… it means that the hardware is being recognised. Now, there is a firmware update for that particular drive model so you may want to download it, install it and see if it makes a difference.

  • IPhoto wont install from mac mini original software discs

    1.25Ghz G4 mini, 512MB RAM
Install discs are original mini disks ver. 10.3.7
    w/ Xcode installed
upgraded via System update to 10.3.9
as installed by apple everything worked ok, but due to some system issues I had to reformat drive, and reinstall. iPhoto seems to have installed (at least there's an icon for it, and a window opens when icon is double clicked), but it will immediately quit when launched with an error that it is missing files it needs, and to reinstall from the iLife discs.
    There was not a separate iLife disc included with the mini just the install DVD, and the OS 9 disc. The error doesn't say what files are missing, but a quick visit to the Console shows the following;
    "iPhoto[384] Can't find ImageIO!"
I have tried reinstalling several times since, installing iPhoto only, all bundled software, and full reformat/reinstall, all with the same results. It seems that the install disc I got was faulty, and won't properly install the bundled software.
Is there any way to get just the missing ImageIO? From this website, or just some helpful poster?

  • I didn't get set up discs with my macbook pro when it came from the US - how do I create them on my Mac Mini?

I uninstalled Intego anti-virus software and it has interfered with some of the essential parts of the operating system - (advice from support team) and I cannot access the internet at all - it appears to be all ok on the networking assistant - all green lights but web pages don't open and mail is not sent or received.
Can I make an operating system disc from my Mac Mini to use in the MacBook Pro?

I did get rid of the antivirus software which is why I am where I am now

  • Selling my Mac Mini but will iLife be there after wipe and re-install

    Hi there
I am wanting to sell my 2011 Mac Mini which originally came with Lion installed. In the time I've had it I've upgraded it through ML and it's now running Mavericks. Obviously I'm going to erase the hard drive and then re-install OSX before selling and I'm comfortable with how to do this but I'm now wondering about the iLife software that came with my Mac.
    My questions are;
    a) the recovery partition, will this still have a copy of Lion there or will that have been upgraded to Mavericks as well?
    b) If the recovery partition is set now for Mavericks, I have read in other threads that if I re-install any version of the OS that is different to the one that originally shipped with my Mac (Lion) then the new owners will not have access to the iLife bundle that was pre-installed and will have to purchase it from the Mac App Store. Is this true?
    c) If this is true is there anyway I can revert the Mac mini back to Lion so then the new owners will have access to the iLife software and then upgrade to Mavericks themselves?
Obviously I would prefer the iLife suite to be available as this makes my Mac more attractive when selling. Before it was so much easier when Apple actually gave out Install discs as you could just re-install from them without any issues. Now with the Mac App Store and this new way of obtaining apps preparing a Mac for sale is a bit more complicated.
Any advise regarding this is greatly appreciated.
    John

Here is the link I lef tout of my first reply
OS X: About OS X Recovery
I think that if you do what
What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
says and then setup the Mac with your ID, your ID will have to remain on the computer in order to update the OS.
The same may apply for iWorks since you had to sign in to download iWorks

  • There is no idvd on my new mac mini. Is there suppose to be?

I just got a new mac mini with lion on it and it had ilife'11 pre-installed and there was no iweb or idvd. Are they suppose to be on there?

It is now is apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple since  new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.  iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ RSS Feed Widget
All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party optionsl  There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and myself have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
I would imagine that iWeb and iDVD will be dropped from future boxed versions of iLife 11.  However, there may be some copies still on the shelves that would include iWeb and iDVD.  Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife box I bought.

  • I think I messed up. How to uninstall iLife disc and keep existing iPhoto.

Ok. I was reading some other answers but didn't see this one.  After upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.5, I began having problems with editing in iPhoto.
And upon opening iPhoto, it would take forever. Usually I just minimize it in the dock. So, if I do too much editing to my photos, they come out half overexposed and half normal. No rhyme or reason. No particular photos. Just random. Only if I do a lot of editing. I have to revert the photos and only do a little editing. Annoying. Spoke with Apple support for 2 hours. we tried everything he could think of. Nothing fixed it. He thought it might be a glitch in the software so he sent me a new iLife disc. Now when I bought this iMac in 2009, it already had iPhoto on it. No disc for that particular application. So the disc he sent me was the bundled version iLife '11 for version 10.6 or later.  Now here's where I think I messed up. I didn't delete my existing iPhoto before I clicked and installed the new disc. (My icon is the orange palm tree BTW)  so after install was complete, I clicked on it and it and the icon got a white circle with a line through it and a pop up that read, " Please run software update to install it now.  it offers two buttons to click...."Software Update" and "OK".  When I click on the software update, it takes me to the Yosemite upgrade feature (which I don't want).  What did I do??  iPhoto won't open at all.  Now I just want to forget this disc and go back to my screwed up iPhoto version. Help???

Nevermind. Fixed the issue.  Had to go back and install the earlier versions.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
