Is there way to export a selection to JPEG through script (CS3)

Hi all,
Is there way to export a selection to JPEG through script (CS3).
CS2 has possible method to export a selection to JPEG using the method
Application.JPEGExportPreferences.ExportingSelection = True. But this method is not supported in CS3.

  • Is there a way to export a slideshow to JPEG without a background?

Hi, I'm using LR4 to do a basic sign with many text overlays on a background image in Slideshow.  I would like to export this image as a jpeg and then print it as an 8x10 to put in a frame.  However, when I export the slideshow to jpeg or PDF, I'm getting the black background behind the image.  I have nothing checked in the "Backdrop" menu on the right hand side.  Is there any way to remove this background in slideshow?  Is there a way to do this in another module instead?  I want more than just a watermark so didn't think Print was the right way to go.
Example of my print preview below with black background.

Looks like you won't need to use the Develop module–Follow the below instructions
    1) An 8" x 10"  image with 300 ppi resolution = 2400 x 3000 pixel dimensions. Make sure your background image has at least that resolution or higher!
    2) Next from inside the LR Slideshow module drag the 'Top' guide all the up so the image fills the frame vertically:
    3) Next go to 'Export JPEG Slideshow' and manually enter Width = 2400 & Height= 3000. The exported Slideshow JPEG should be perfectly cropped and sized providing the original background image is 8x10 aspect ratio:
    4) You are ready to make your print!
    P.S. Please excuse my typo showing 3000 x 24000 it should read 3000 x 2400!

  • Is there way to "export all tracks as audio" without such extreme volume?

Exporting some songs for a client, and when i use the "export all tracks as audio" function-- the tracks created are much louder than the levels i have them at in the song. I'm paying mind to the 'normalize' function, as well as the automation option.
But it seems to not matter if i turn the master volume down, or if I turn the output down- the tracks are much, much louder than they are in the song.
Anybody know of a way around this short of bouncing each individual track one by one? We don't have time for that.

AIFF and WAV are sonically identical, doesn't realy matter which you choose. AIFF is to Mac what WAV is to windows.
It does not have any bearing on levels, that is up to the *Track Automation.* If you have no Track Automation the files will be exported as if the fader is at 0 dB. ONLY when you automate the fader and put the track in *Read mode* will there be a difference, and only if you check the *include Pan/Volume automation* option.

  • Best way to export a mass amount of icons? (CS3)

Hello. I have a PSD file with 300 text layers and a background graphic with a transparent background.I need to export each text layer with the background graphic as a transparent 24-bit PNG.
I was going to use an "export each layer as file" script, but there's no support for PNG in CS3.
The only option I can see is to create an action to export one individual icon. Then play the action on each text layer, which will take hours and be a major pain because I'll have to rename each file so they don't get copied over eachother.
I'm hoping someone out there has a solution!
    -Matt

Ah, if the script sees a layerset it will give you the wrong menu.
What you could do is select the bottom layerset, merge group (ctrl/e)
Layer - New - Background from layer
Make all your layers visible then run the script.
You can then quit without saving, so you won't need to put things back as they were.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best way to export custom postcard as .jpeg

Hi! I am very new to photoshop, and, I am sure these are very elementary questions... please bear with me. I really appreciate your help.
I created a custom postcard with layers - a collage of family photos - to use as a Christmas postcard. After reading advice online, I sized it at 72 resolution, color RGB Color, and tried to export it as .JPEG using Save for web... But, the preview looks like some of the faces on my postcard are blurry... Could you please tell me the best way to format and export such a file? Also, if it needs to be at a higher resolution, do I need to start the whole process over again?
Thanks so much for your patience with my ignorance. I am trying to do this before Christmas, and trying to keep my spirits in a Christmas mood in the process, without beating my computer. =-0

Are these to be printed or emailed?

  • Is there a way to export 2 different pdf's in one export command? Mac IND CS3

Hi. I was just wondering if there is a way, via script or some other way to export my layouts done in Adobe InDesign CS3 (Mac) into two different kinds of pdf's - one in low-resolution pdf, and onother in press ready high resolution pdf -- both done in one command? What I am doing now is export first as low res, then export again using high-res settings. I haven't got time to study scripting yet, so if there is a script available, or a shortcut command, that would save me valuable time everyday. Thanks!

There's no way to do this automatically in Indesign.
What I do is export the file as a high res PDF. It opens automatically in Acrobat. Then I choose "Advanced:PDF Optimizer," where I've set up a profile that creates a low-res version, and I save that with a different name. That gives considerable control, but probably is as much work as what you do, although it might be slightly faster.

  • Export a selection to jpg (JS)

Is it possible to export a selection to jpeg with Javascript? There are only exportRange and exportAll enumerations available in the jpeg export preferences. I know that the "long cut" is to resize page to match the size of the selection, center selection in the page and export page. Setting Showing options to true is no option.
    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Notice that you call exportFile() method with some target.
An object (group) can be a target as well.
    So:
         app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.JPG, mFile)
uses a target set in preferences (page range or all pages)
    but
         textFrame.exportFile(ExportFormat.JPG, mFile)
has target set already to a textFrame.

  • Is there a way to export videos and retain geotag/time changes?

I'm in the process of exporting all my photos & videos from one Mac to another (I want to avoid migrating everything with the migration assistant...) through an external hard drive, which will also serve as my central photo/video location - this way I can lend it to my friends so they can import events to their Macs.
Anyway, I've made substantial changes to my photos and videos throughout the years, mostly around location geotagging and adjusting time and date info.
When exporting my events, I'm choosing the following settings:
    Kind:              JPEG
    JPEG Quality: High
    Include:         Title and keywords (check)
                           Location information (check)
    Size:               Full Size
    File Name:     Use Filename
This has worked great for all my photos, as they retain all the date/time and geotag changes I've made.
However, this doesn't work for videos... a small file of a few hundred KB gets created for each video, but it's basically just an image of the first frame.
The only way to export my videos in full has been to change the "Kind" option above to "Original".
This works fine to create a file for each video in full, however none of the geotag or time/date changes are retained.
It looks like iPhoto is simply dumping a copy of the original video files without updating the timestamp or geotag info.
Is there a known way to do this with iPhoto? If not, how about other software?
    Thanks!
    -Marc

I see, thanks for the clarification.
Well that's my current problem actually, as I have a bunch of photos in my library that were imported at times when I did NOT have the "copy to library when importing" setting checked.
The original files (the full-size photos themselves) are all over the place, and some are on my external hard drive. So in order to consolidate everything, I'd like to export ALL the photos from my library to just *one* location.
Trouble is, I won't have enough space on the new MacBook to import everything into the internal SSD...
I noticed when playing around with various export settings that the size of the exported photos vary dramatically based on the "quality" setting, even if the "size" setting is always "full size".
It's even creating files that are larger than the originals if I select the "Maximum" quality setting! But if I select the next lower one, which is "High", the files end up being smaller than the originals by about 25-30%.
Do you know if there's a significant loss i quality when I pick "High" instead of "Maxiumum? (FYI the original files are all JPEG images, taken with various cameras from 2G iPhone and several point-and-shoots, to high-end digital SLR with glass lenses).

  • Is there a way to export an iTunes playlist from a windows XP pc and import on an iMac?

I have a PC running Windows XP that I've had for many years. I just got an iMac and want to make that my main music source for syncing iPods, playing, music in the house, etc. I have a lot of playlists on the old PC that I want to move over to the iMac and I don't have to rebuild them all by hand. Is there a way to export the original playlists from the Windows PC and import them to the iMac since the file systems are different? Thanks.

The problem really is that one person has InDesign and the other has Photoshop.
The workflow is images from photoshop are placed in Photoshop.
Not the layout from InDesign is placed in photoshop.
That's how the software is designed to work.
What people are saying is that Photoshop cannot work this way in dealing with layouts, it's a nightmare and will give you terrible results and cost you time and effort when updating things in Photoshop, it has all the makings of a Final Destination movie, particularly in the area of the later sequels.
But let's not get hung up on those franchises.
If the person needs to edit an Indesign file and can't afford the full cost of InDesign then there are other workarounds:
    1. If it's just text
If all they are doing is updating text then you can use File>Export>Rich Text Format from a selection of text, this will make a Word version of the text that they can edit. You can then use File>Import and import the RTF that is edited.
    2. You can use InCopy
This is a viable solution for editors that need to see the text in the Layout Format, but it hasn't got all the bells and whistles of InDesign, but it works in tangent with InDesign, it's not as pricey as InDesign and it also allows you to lock out editors from editing certain parts or moving things within the layout. And it can update your InDesign file on the fly.
    3. You can use Rorohikos Story Tweaker
    http://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/2009/03/25/storytweakertextedits/
There are workarounds that you can find for people that don't have InDesign. It's just that the Photoshop workflow isn't a viable solution in any sense.
For example, I have my layouts proofed in PDF format, where the proofreader adds Comments to the PDF. It works for our workflow as I'm the one editing the only file in existence.
But to go from InDesign to Photoshop is a complete  waste of time and effort on everyone's part. There is no need to go that route, there's no reason, there's no point.

  • Is there a way to export your photo links from Illustrator (CS6) to a contact sheet?

So I've got this project where I'm making a set of images and placing about 300 photos with each set.  In order to avoid duplication and to track which photos were used where, I'm having to take screen shots of the links panel (scrolling down and taking another for each batch of images on each file).  This is a really clunky way to track these files and a contact sheet would be a lot easier to work with.  Is there a way to export the links to a contact sheet in Illustrator?

    - select your images
    - open the Document Info Panel, check "Selection Only", "Linked Images" and click on "Save..."

  • Is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro?

OK...so here's what I'm trying to find out: is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro? Or can I build the project in DVDSTPRO and import it to iDVD to build and burn?
I've read several threads here and haven't come across my specific question. If I missed it, please copy me a link. Otherwise, I'd like to use the templates/themes in iDVD with my FCP project.
I was thinking about importing the project from FCP to iDVD. Then, I thought about the markers etc....
So, if anyone had an idea, tip or link, I'm all for it!
    Thanks!

    Importing iDVD Projects and Themes
DVD Studio Pro 4 can import projects from iDVD 3 and iDVD 4. You can import an iDVD theme by using the theme in a project within iDVD and importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. When creating the project within iDVD, you do not need to use the final assets or make a complete project.
Note: DVD Studio Pro will not import projects from iDVD 1, iDVD 2, and iDVD 5. In general, iDVD needs to be installed on the same system as DVD Studio Pro. An exception is if you import an iDVD 4 archive project.
To import an iDVD project or archived project into DVD Studio Pro:
1 Do one of the following:
    • Choose File > Open.
    • Press Command-O.
2 Locate and select the iDVD project or iDVD 4 archive project in the Open dialog, then click Open.
DVD Studio Pro imports the iDVD project.
    About the iDVD Project Import
When DVD Studio Pro imports an iDVD 3 or iDVD 4 project or iDVD 4 archive project, it has standard locations it looks for to find the assets and themes used in the project. This is especially important if the project uses custom themes.
The standard locations that DVD Studio Pro uses are (in this order):
    • iDVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
    • [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
    • [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
    • /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically
configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as having a server networked into your computer.)
    • iDVD application bundle: This is the iDVD application file that contains the default theme elements.
Note: When you create an archive project in iDVD 4, you can choose to include the themes and encoded files. For the best portability, you should include both options. This results in a larger archive file, but ensures you can take the file to any DVD Studio Pro system and import it without missing assets. If you do not choose to include the themes and encoded files in the archive file, those assets must be available in one of the standard locations.
If your project will have automatically-created chapter index (scene selection) menus based on markers embedded in the video, it can be easier to create these within iDVD prior to importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. This ensures the chapter index menus use the selected theme’s background and include arrow buttons to navigate between the menus.
Important: To ensure all iDVD menu elements import correctly into DVD Studio Pro, you must navigate to each chapter index menu within iDVD before saving the project. This is also true for any menus you add to your iDVD project by clicking the Folder button.
    Issues With Importing iDVD Projects
There are some issues to be aware of when you import iDVD projects:
    • If you import an iDVD project with DVD-ROM content, DVD Studio Pro does not update the settings in the Disc Inspector’s General tab to reflect the DVD-ROM content. You must manually select the DVD-ROM layout and choose the folder to include.
    • When you create a slideshow in iDVD, you can add arrow buttons to each still to provide viewers with an additional method of jumping to the previous and next stills. These arrow buttons are not imported when you import an iDVD project into DVD Studio Pro. The viewer must use the Previous and Next buttons on the DVD player’s remote control to jump between stills.
    • The button highlights used in iDVD may look different when imported into DVD Studio Pro. In most cases, the text in the buttons is set to be included in the highlight. Additionally, buttons that use an underline in iDVD will not have an underline when imported into DVD Studio Pro.
    • When you import an iDVD project, you may find that the button that is highlighted by default on some menus changes. During the project import, DVD Studio Pro numbers the buttons on each menu and highlights button 1 by default. You can assign any button on a menu to be the default button in the Menu tab in the Menu Inspector.
    • If you import an iDVD project that contains a drop zone configured as a slideshow and has multiple slides assigned to it, DVD Studio Pro only shows the slideshow’s first slide in the drop zone.

  • Is there a way to export a movie in FCP X in a medium format 640x360

I just downloaded FCP x and edited my first footage in it, looking at the Share options I don't see a way to export a medium 640x360 movie as I did in iMovie. Is there an option or way for me to export in that size?
    Thanks

Well I stumbled upon a 'built in' solution, giving me the formats that I need. I simply select SHARE then I pick Vimeo, I enter incorrect credentials (wrong password) and now I can select the format sizes that I want .. Uncheck 'Set Size AUTOmatically' now you can pick 640x360, 960x540, 720x1080 and 1920x1080 from a drop down list. If you place your mouse over the 'blue i' symbol it give you a popup with the estimated file size.
FCP X will render/encode the file first, then it will attempt to upload it.. of course that will fail, but my MOVIE  is now sitting in my FCP > Projects Folder under the  Project Name  > SHARED folder, in the format size I selected.
So we sorta have a built in basic compressor for some standard formats.
Maybe this will help somebody else,
    Mel

  • There's no proper way to export charts to PDF in numbers 3

In Numbers 09, there're at least two ways.
    1. copy the chart and paste to preview with `New from clipboard`, although this has some bugs on the chart format
    2. Copy to pages, export as RTFD, and extract the pdf in the package.
However, when upgraded to the new iWork,
these two ways are ruled out.
    1. Seems preview doesn't recognize the new format of the iwork content, so `New from clipboard` results in a blurry image instead of a vectorgraph like pdf.
    2. The exporting to RTFD functionality has been removed.
I don't understand why apple is doing this, and I wonder is there any proper way to export to a high-resolution PDF from the charts?

Print the page/sheet and select "Print PDF to Preview" instead of actually printing.
In Preview, use the rectangular selection tool to select the chart
    Copy
    New from Clipboard
That will create a PDF vector image of the chart. It is a few more steps than in Numbers '09 but it does give you all the pieces of the chart (unlike Numbers '09),

  • Workflow - is there a logical way to export a bunch of regions with names?

    Hi all.
    Situation:
I have a bunch of audio regions from a film shoot, and have edited their start and end points in Logic. I would now like to export all of these regions as separate audio files (with sample rate conversion) and (here is the important thing) *keep the names of the regions intact*.
I know there are ways to export regions, but I have many, many of them and they are separated, track-by-track into the different scenes and ambiences. If I select all of them and export, I get many, many regions with non-descript names in one place which I then have to go through and rename.
There's gotta be a way to do this, right? I mean, it's a common problem, right?
    -J

You might consider another program to edit start and end points.. Many years ago I used Peak to do something similiar (I had several hundred files small audio files to edit) this. It had a batch function, it would actually do as many functions as you specified. You then selected a input folder and on outoput folder, and hit batch process. .. another program was barbrabatch (don't know if it's still around)..
another idea to try is go right into the sample edit section of Logic, edit the sample, and use 'save as' the default name there.. I'm not sure if it will let you overwrite the original, perhaps you can point it to another folder, but if the default name comes up, it saves you the trouble of retyping the name each time.
