Is there  way to store and run my iMovies on my Time Capsule instead of laptop drive? I will then run an external drive to backup Time Capsule as my backup.  I want to dothis because my hard drive is full and I still have many movies to import form camcorder.

I do not know about iMovie, but the experts in the iPhoto and Aperture support areas strongly advise against trying to install your "working" image library on the Time Capsule.
You might want to ask about this in the iMovie support area.
iMovie for Mac
It would be much easier and much better if you use the external drive to connect to your Mac via USB or FireWire and then store the movies there.
Then, Time Machine will back up both your Mac and the external hard drive automatically once you tell it to do so.

Is there a way to store purchased iTunes movies on Cloud?

Tap on the purchased tab in iTunes on the iPad. That screenshot is on the iPhone. Sometimes Apple makes this stuff so confusing when they try to include all iDevices on one article.

If you want to be absolutely safe, transfer the movies to iTunes on your computer. Read about it here.

  • I recently bought a new iMac as well as a wireless time capsule and have it connected how can I use this external drive as the location to store all my files for iTunes, or is this even possible?

New iMac user here, I recently bought a new iMac and Time capsule and have the whole network up and running now. I have connected another external HD to the time capsule as well and have a total of 3 TB of storage connected wireless to my new iMac. My question is can I use this location as the default location for iTunes?  I doubt I am gonna run out of room considering the iMac has 1 TB of storage already, but I'd prefer to keep my movies and music off the Mac to keep it running smoothly. If this is possibly, I'd like to do this with iPhoto as well.

I would advise against placing your iTunes library on a Time Capsule.
The Time Capsule is designed as a backup device and not for wireless streaming of video.
Before you do anything more, can I suggest you put into place a reliable, redundant backup strategy.
Unless you are prepared to risk loss of your iTunes library due to a hard drive failure, I would not put iTunes on the Time Capsule.
Leave your iTunes library on your iMac until such time as your internal drive is full. Backup to Time Capsule using Time Machine and create a clone of your internal iMac HD to your external drive.
That's my 2 cents worth. Others may have a different opinion.

  • Is there a way to store ITunes movies on an external wireless hard drive and access them from my IPAD.

I am on deployment with VERY limited internet access. I have gone through all the movies on my IPad and would like to have access to the rest of my movies at home.  Is there a way for my wife to load ITunes movies off my Mac at home to an external hard drive, send me it to me and then I can view them from my IPad? How do I set up the IPad to look for the movies on the drive?

No. An iPad does not have the capability to read data from an external HDD. You need a computer running iTunes to sync the movies to the iPad.

  • I downloaded all into a new external hard drive because my internal hard drive was failing. then got internal hard drive replaced by Apple Store. Now when I try to sync IPAD or IPhone to IMAC, photos will not transfer. Why? What shall I do?

Trying to download photos from IPHONE, IPAD to IPHOTO in IMAC after installing new hard drive. Before getting new Hard drive, I downloaded all into external hard drive. photos did not download!

Trying to download photos from IPHONE, IPAD to IPHOTO in IMAC after installing new hard drive.
How did you import the photos to iPad and iPhone?
If the photos have been synced to the iPhone and iPad using iTunes, you cannot sync them back.
    See this document:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
If your photos are not in the Camera Roll on your devices, save them to the Camera Roll, share them to the Photo Stream, mail the photos, or, if you have iPhoto on the devices, use iTunes Photo Sharing.
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnkee26bc1
Save photos to your computer using iTunes
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Tap a photo, album, event, web journal, or slideshow and tap Share> iTunes.
Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save (if you are saving a slideshow skip to step 4):
Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap one or more photos, and tap Next.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
In iTunes, click the button for your device and click Apps at the top of the window.
Below File Sharing, select iPhoto (in Apps).
Select the Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents.
Click Save To and select the location on your computer where you want to save the items.
To view your photos, go to the Finder and look in the location you selected above.

Your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? (It it isn't please amend it to prevent confusion).
Assuming Snow Leopard, iCloud has not been deleted - it was never there. The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.2 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
You can set Snow Leopard up to access the email on an existing iCloud account which has been set up on a compliant device, and you may be able to sync iCal using an unsupported (and possibly unreliable) hack, but no other facilities will work. You cannot open an iCloud account on Snow Leopard.
This page outlines the limited use you can make of an existing iCloud account with Snow Leopard:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
To make full use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Is there any way to store data larger than 4000 bytes?

    Hi,
Could someone here know which data type to store database column size larger than 4000 bytes.
VARCHAR2 has the limit of 4000 bytes in database column. Is there ways to store data larger than 4000 bytes?
    Thank you very much!

    CLOB
You use the CLOB datatype to store large blocks of character data in the database, in-line or out-of-line. Both fixed-width and variable-width character sets are supported. Every CLOB variable stores a locator, which points to a large block of character data. The size of a CLOB cannot exceed four gigabytes.
CLOBs participate fully in transactions, are recoverable, and can be replicated. Changes made by package DBMS_LOB can be committed or rolled back. CLOB locators can span transactions (for reads only), but they cannot span sessions.

  • HT1751 What is the best way to move my iTunes library from an external PC drive to a Mac external drive?

I just make the move to Mac computers.  My iTunes library is currently on a PC formatted external drive.  I would like to move it to an external drive that i have formatted for Mac.  What is the best way to do this?

Is the entire library on the external drive or just the media folder? If it is the latter, and you still have access to the PC then see make a split library portable.
If the drive is in FAT32 format you can connect a portable library directly to the Mac, holding down Option as you start iTunes. Otherwise you either need to copy it to a local drive (Mac should be able to read NTFS) or install a full service NTFS driver so that the library can be read and updated.

  • Is there a way of knowing which external drive ejects?

Is there a way of knowing which external drive ejects?
I have several external drives and when one ejects on it's own it usually immediately restarts again and does not give me time to find which one was the problem drive.
Is there a way of figuring this out?
    Thank you!

No unfortunately without restoring the library and running it there is no way to tell if it is good or not.

  • HT1229 Can i move the iPhoto folder onto an external HDD? Will it work the same way after moving onto an external HDD? do I then need to have the external connected at all times, even when I don't use iPhoto?

I have a macbook pro, but the amount of pictures I have now exceeds 500GB
I want to have all the pictures in iPhoto, so I could see them and edit them in iPhoto.
Which means... I need the iPhoto file folder in an external HDD to use iPhoto that way.
Can i move the iPhoto folder onto an external HDD?
Will it work the same way, as if the iPhoto folder is on the internal drive?

    yes
    yes
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • New iTunes folder on external drive...move xml file there?

About a year ago, I created a new folder on an external hard drive and I thought that I followed the apple designated steps to move my itunes music to that folder.  I then selected the advanced tab in preferences in iTunes and selected the new folder on my external drive as my "iTunes" folder.  iTunes seems to have worked OK for this past year using the folder on the external drive.  After updating to the latest version of iTunes (11.1.1), I tried to sync some apps to my iPhone 4, and I got the message that the external drive folder I am using as my "iTunes" folder on the external drive is not the one associated with my iPhone.  iTunes asks if I want to erase my iPhone and use the contents of my external drive folder on my phone.  This is the first time I have seen this message, even though it has been a year, and I have connected my phone to iTunes during that time.
In investigating this, I see that the .xml and .its files are not in the folder on the external hard drive.  In fact, there is no folder at all called "iTunes" on my external drive. They are still in the "iTunes" folder in my music folder on my internal hard drive.  This is what is still in the music folder in my home folder on my internal drive:
Should I manually move the .xml, the .ita and the other files into the folder on the external drive?
    Thanks

In my message above, I tried to include a .png file of what my internal hard drive has in the music folder, but that did not work, so I am trying to paste it in here.  I am wondering if I should manually copy these files to the music folder on my external hard drive.  There is no folder on my external drive names "iTunes".

  • How to move itunes library .New vista pc &keep music on an external drive?

I'm moving from a Windows XP machine to a new Vista machine. All my music is on an external hd that I conenct via usb. Before giving away my old lap I backup the itunes files named itunes.itl, itunesmusic library.xml, albun art work folder
I installed itunes 7.2 and then I go to the edit preferences and change the music folder to f;//my music son itunes gets the music from my external hard drive.
Then i copy the itunes files that i back up into the the c ;users itunes folder.

So i go to add folder to library and itunes starts getting some songs (i have more than 10000) but after a few minutes it suddenly stops and no songs were added to the library. and itunes freezes, so the only way to go ,is control alt delete ,stop itunes and start again.
I triend adding folder by folder , my music is organized as example. each floder has artist album and songs but I have to many folders . i tried adding one folder each time it ,instead off adding the my music folder with all the subfloders and it seems to work but it is going to take me months to finish.
does some one knows what should i do ? or why itunes sotps suddenly? or what is the right procedure i should follow to keep my music in the external hard drive and continue with my play lists.?it is like a new installation with all the music in an external hd, an I want to keep it that way.
Does some one know if i have to do something with the ituneslibrary files befre copynig then to the new ditunes directory created with the new installation , in refering as permits or porperties ets?

I do the same thing as you do...
My music is on an external drive as to not use up gigabytes of storage that need not be used for media.
There are a couple basic principles to iTunes that I believe you should know.
    1. iTunes is not a media storage program. It does not store your media "in iTunes". It simply is an organization tool for your media already on a hard disk.
    2. As iTunes is not a storage mechanism, it has no way to "know" whether or not the media that is listed is actually there. This is where the "design" of iTunes comes into play.
I like to think of iTunes as a bread-crumb trail. The "music" in iTunes, isn't actually there. The bread crumb is the location on the external hard drive.
If that bread crumb trail disappears (in this case the external drive you use). If said external drive is not plugged in, that bread crumb trail is not able to be followed. iTunes is "lost" and unable to find the media. The only way to remedy this is to place the media on your local drive.
To address your issue of the library. If you hold down shift, you can select your library on your external drive. It will be a file with an .itl extension. The folder name will be your external drive.
I go into edit > preferences > advanced and set my library to the correct location. Make sure you check the box "Copy to iTunes Folder when importing" (or whatever it says).
You can't fix the issue of iTunes not seeing the media if your drive is unplugged unless you physically move the content to your OS HDD...Or any other HDD you use.

  • Using external drive with store

    Hi,
I have run out of room on my computer for my itunes library, so I am now storing it on an external hard drive. The problem is, now that I am trying to order tv shows from the store, it seems to be taking A LOT longer (estimated download time = 9 hours!!!) Is there anyway to keep most of my files on the external hard drive, but when downloading, download first to my laptop, then transfer to external drive later.
Also, unrelated, when I sync my ipod in this situation, will it know to look to the external hard drive's information?
    Thank you.

All my songs, movies, music videos and TV shows are stored on an external hard drive. And my Mac mini and MBP are accessing these contents.
The external hardrive is hooked up to my Mac mini. My MBP is accessing the external hard drive wirelessly. If I download from iTunes on my MBP, it goes straight to the external hard drive wirelessly.
I only have an iPod shuffle. If I wanna sync it with any of the two Macs I have, it will pull the files from the external hard drive. Of course, it will be so much slower doing with the MBP.
Anyhow, the trick is to set the iTunes Music folder location at Preferences... > Advanced > General tab
If you forget to mount your external hard drive when you launch iTunes, iTunes will set the iTunes Music folder location to default which is in your Home > Music folder. All you have to do is to reselect the iTunes Music folder location to your external hard drive.
If you have not done it before, you could get iTunes to copy all your stuff to the desired location on your external hard drive.
    Hope this helps.
