Is this a dead pixel?

I saw this white dot on a ask.fm page. I am not sure if it is a dead pixel because this pic is an screenshot and i dont think dead pixels show up on screen shots.
also the dead pixel dissapeared when i left the web page. I think it is just a bug of the webpage but i want to be sure. Remember that this pic is an screenshot.

If you are looking on a different page is the mark always in the same place? If so it could be a dead pixel.
If you took it in I don’t think they will do much about it, as I think 1, 2 or 3 dead pixels are probably within the tolerances allowed for that screen.
You can always take it in to see what they say.

  • Macbook Stuck/dead Pixel Help

hey i just bought my macbook 2 days ago, and now i notice 2 pixel are dead or stuck, i cant really tell. one of them are light blue colour on top when background is white. and the other one is yellow over white background.
Can anyone please tell me what should i do ?? iam not to sure, iam worries that this is dead pixel that cant be fixed >.<
    thanks for ur concern
    regards
    Erwin.

Those are stuck pixels from the sound of it. If they were dead, well you wouldn't be seeing any color other than black and you wouldn't be able to do a thing. Now with stuck pixels you can supposedly fix these some of the time, but don't quote me on that as I've never have had to deal with them. That said there appears to be a widget you can down that might fix your problem....

I think its worth a shot anyways.....

  • Pulsating 'dead' pixel and electricity usage

    Hello,
Anyone knows the electricy usage in Watts for this new apple cinema display? I'm particularly interested to find out to max usage .e.g when it's charging macbook pro and off w/o charging.
On the second thought, I just got my display yesterday. I got a unit that has multiple (> 7) pulsating dead pixel. This is quite interesting, as a dead pixel usually either stays black or white or a specific color. In the first unit, I notice that a dead pixel stays for 2-3 seconds, gone then comes again.
The second unit has the same issue but less in quantity, so I got it. Anyone knows about this 'pusalting' dead pixel? couldn't find in search.
Lastly, are there difference manucfaturer of the display? The MBP has Chi Mei and LG.

Power usage can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html
212 Watts while charging a MacBook Pro.
I have never seen pulsating pixels on mine. I only have one single red stuck pixel and that's it.
No idea about the display manufacturer.

  • Dead Pixels/Dark spot?

I was just working on some homework on my macbook pro and all the sudden I noticed this dark spot/dead pixel in the right center of my screen. At first I thought my screen just got dirty, but that was not the case. Can anyone tell me what this is... and if apple will cover this?

****... well here is the weird thing... there hasn't been any sort of blunt force or anything even close to that, that happened to my laptop. I make sure that if I ever take it out that it is gentally set down. I have the laptop sleeve as well as a laptop bag.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe when I sent my Macbook Pro into Apple to get the logic board replaced that somehow some sort of pressure was applied to the screen to cause this. Would the problem that I'm having appear several days/weeks/months after the actual day when some sort of pressure is applied to the screen? I think this whole dead pixel or whatever it is happened sometime within the past 3-4 days in which my laptop has been sitting here on my desk with nothing stacked on top of it.

  • IPhone 6 Dead Pixel

Is this a dead pixel? Sorry the photos aren't that great.

Hard to tell. Get your device checked by an Authorized Apple Service Provider or visit an Apple Store next to your place and let them check the screen.
You can also contact Apple Support to get it serviced:

  • Dead pixels or dust on my MBP screen?

I have only had my Macbook for about a week now and I noticed that when my screen is black I can clearly see a TON of little specks all over the screen. And when I say a ton, I mean a ton. After some research, I found out that these are most likely dead pixels or dust under the glass.
    1. Is it normal for my screen to have this many dead pixels after only a week of having it? (I bought it brand new from the store.)
    2. What should I do about it?
    Thank you!

Since you only purchased it for a week you have the option to get another computer. Apple has a return policy longer than a week (if you brought it from Apple). Most reputable Apple resellers allow you to return the machine and you can buy a new one.

  • Dust under screen and Dead Pixels on new MBP...

I got a new Macbook and, aside from the fact that it was missing the P key, there was a new manufacturing defect I hadn't seen before, (must be from the new process), wherein dust was trapped behind the glass screen.
The Apple Store was great about letting me exchanging it, no problem. Then I realized that I needed firewire so I returned the new and unopened Macbook replacement to upgrade to a MacBook Pro, but now I'm disheartened, because the new MacBook Pro, though a thing of beauty, has a bright dead pixel in the top middle screen, as well as a dimmer dead pixel 2 inches to the left of that one.
I just bought the computer a few hours ago.
Do you think I have a shot at them replacing it tomorrow? I hate to think of staring at this, (bright) dead pixel for three years, (not to mention the other dimmer dead pixel).
    Thanks!

Yep, I too did a custom order wtih everything I could get on it. And sad to say, like many iphones I have gotten, it too had dust under the display. It also was about 10 different yellow flecks under the glass. Customer service gave me no fuss really and I have sent it off and am awaiting a new one now. However, it is frustrating that this makes it out of the factory in the first place. Quality control should have seen this, especially when I am looking at buying 2 more shortly. It is my first actual mac purchase aside from the numerous other accories I have bought for PC use. However, with vista being the garbage that it is, I am having mac withdrawls now. ***** when you use something that works and then revert back.
I also noticed the battery lid was a little loose on the laptop. Hopefully this is a isolated thing as well. It does take about another week and a half from what I am told to get the replacement. Kinda ***** to have to wait, but I am sure it will be worth it.

  • Is this dead pixels?

So um hey guys, Lately i've been using my iPad testing the camera as it seemed a little fuzzy but owell i didnt really care but then after that i tried resetting my iPad and when i opened it back a black line appeared in the top of the screen, Its very thin crossing the top of the screen idk what that is, it just popped out of nowhere..When i try changing my iPad from portrait to horizontal the line remains in its place on the right side of the iPad
Is it dead pixels? I bought it 2 days ago so i guess i still can go return it.

I can't give you a definite answer. Given that
    - it's not a problem immediately visible (and you can even deny having noticed it) and the shop folks may not even notice it either
    - generally, broken LCD's are caused by dropping (the shop people will surely say it's being dropped even when you haven't dropped it), which (generally) aren't covered by a warranty,
I'd, personally, take it back and ask for an exchange for, say, a different-colored model, (only) stating you dislike its color.
Not the most honest way of doing this, but you can save some hundred dollars - and, after all, you haven't dropped your iPad...

  • Satellite 5100 - Question about dead pixels. Is it really dead pixel problem?

    Hi,
I've got Satellite 5100-603. There have been some dead pixels on display. I don't know is it really dead pixel problem or not because the black area seems to be behind the screen. When i move left and right sides, the black area moves left and right sides too (as if the black area is behind the screen pixels)! And i can tell that all pixels are working OK when i look from the right and left sides of the display (because the pixels that seems to be dead, changes at different looking angles).
Are there really dead pixels or is it some other problem?
Is there anything that i can do about it?
For info, i am using my laptop for 2,5 years and there is no warranty of course...
    Thanks for any help..

    Hi
to answer your question I will try to make a simple description the layout of the TFT display.
I'll go from the front to the back.
In the front is a tough plexi-glass like layer to protect the screen from harm and the user from glass in case the TFT should break. It is also prepared in a way that will soften the reflections from behind (that does not go for the newer SuperBright screens).
Behind that is the 2 layers (at least 1 of glass, probably both) that hold the actual matrix of the pixels.
Behind theese 2 are a very complex set of layers that take care of the backlight. It consists of various numbers of films that should spread the light from the singel FL-tube evenly across the complete screen. Not a easy task if you ask me!
Sometimes, physical stress or dirt can make 'blotches' appear on the screen and they are in fact either dirt on the backmost layer or marks on the same. If there is dirt or marks on it, that will 'shadow' the light that comes out from it and show dark spots on the screen. They are quite different from defective pixels.
The defective pixels do not change with the angle of view for example.
I think you cannot do anything about this except changing screen. The construction is very complex and sensetive.

  • Dead pixel on my mac book pro retina display

Hi, i bought a mac book retina display and has a "dead pixel" I took it to apple's techical support (In Bogota-Colombia) and they told me tscrhat apple's warranty won't cover this issue..is that true? The sad thing is that I'm a designer and i bought this computer because of the screen,it has only 3 months and that dead pixel really bothers me and affects my work....what can i do?

Because it must have more than 7 dead pixels, i'm searching for this policies but I don't find anyhting!

  • Dead pixels appeared on Macbook Pro Retina 15"

    Hi,
Bought my Macbook on September / 2014 and so far no problems.
Unfortunately today a lot of dead pixels appeared on the center of my screen !
I tried to clean it but it seems to be behind the screen actually. Tried to reboot and reset SMC as request by Apple support, with no success : (
They suggested i bring it to the nearest service center, problem is i use my machine to work and it probably will take weeks to repair.
Is there any other solution ? Why this happened ? My previous Macbook was not Retina and never had this kind of issue.
I took a photo of the screens while in the google website :
    Very disappointed

A 15 ft display boy that is big. Perhaps a smaller display with fewer pixels is in order.

  • Lenovo G460 - dead pixel, LCD can't be waken up from sleep/ hibernation , very hard to use Touchpad

I got this unit as my birthday present last week. I was very happy about it, as i've been using Dell laptops for the past 6 years of my life, this is the very first time in my life that i'm getting a Lenovo laptop, and i gotta say i'm very disappointed. Friends around me saw me carrying a new Lenovo and they all went " oh my god, that's Lenovo leh !!!", and now i must say "it's no big deal, it's only Lenovo".
after i got this laptop as a present, i'd been quite busy with work and didnt even play with it much. But when i first got my hands on this laptop, i found the touchpad is the hardest one i have ever used in my life. i dont know if it's me or the touchpad itself. Sometimes, the right click doesnt work or the pointer just stalls on the screen for a few seconds no matter how hard i try to move it. Ok, i said it to myself, fine, maybe i got too used to Dell's touchpad, this is a laptop of higher end/ bigger name and it's too hard for me to use. i could get myself an optical mouse. But the nightmare is just about to start !!!
It's labour's day, i got 3 days off work and i started playing this new laptop. After playing around with it for half a day, i left it for shower. After i returned, the display turned off. I tried every way to wake it up and they all went in vain, only a hard power off would do the job. I got online, searched the forum and found that many other users were having the same problem as i had. Ok, read that a BIOS update would solve the problem, though it's not available now. I can be patient and not a crazy **bleep** complaining about it.
just the next day, i woke up from bed, turned on the laptop, as windows 7 was starting up, i suddenly noticed there was a **bleep** dead pixel !!!!! it's so tiny that it could be so hard to see, if it wasnt windows 7 startup screen (all black with some colorful animation at the center) i wouldnt have noticed it !!! I googled on G460 having dead pixel, oh my, i'm certainly not alone !!!
Now that i have sold off my old dell laptop, and had everything set up in this new laptop, and it seems that i need to return this laptop, and certainly i'll have to live my life without a laptop for the next few weeks. I gotta say it again, i'm very disappointed in Lenovo !!!
Now please let me know how do i return this laptop for repair or whatever you call it, as i work on weekdays in singapore and return to malaysia only on weekends, and this laptop was bought in Malaysia. looks like i gotta take a day off just to send this laptop back to lenovo..........what a big let down.
have had so many Dell laptopsand  never had a single tiny problem with them......

I'm banging my head because I can't find a solution to make my arch-install detect an audio CD
I assume that you mean the optical drive. I don't see a /dev/sr0 in /dev
Does it show up with lsblk or parted -l?
Looks like it's a LiteOn drive.
You can play an audio CD.
    mplayer cdda://
    mpv cdda://track[−endtrack][:speed][/device] −−cdrom−device=PATH
An audio CD doesn't have a mountable file system on it.
