  • When is apple going to do something about this recent flood of spam to .mac

when is apple going to do something about this recent flood of spam to .mac. i have had .mac for 4 years and in the last few months im getting like 10 junk mails a day. all for worthless investment tips. i came on here to find alot of others getting the same junk mail from the same sender. so it is obviously a target to .mac addresses and not just mine. come on apple, this has been happening for a few months now and is getting worse. are you going to do anyhthing about it on the server side of things? im paying over $100 for .mac and expect a fix. anybody else with this problem please please sound off here. we need a fix for this.

yes, i agree. over 3 years with 3 .mac addresses and this is the first time i've had any sort of a problem... and it's becoming an onslaught.
plus, not only is the mac filter not working, my mail 2.0.5 filter is not working. can someone let me know why these are not going into my junk folder? i think i've got it set up correctly as these are ticked:
    enable junk mail filtering
move it to the junk mailbox (automatic)
(exempt) sender in my address book
(exempt) message is addressed using my full name
trust junk mail headers set by my ISP
can anyone from mac let us know that you are aware of the current problem and are at least looking into it?

  • I can't send e-mail because I keep getting this error: "If you are sending a link, try adding some text to it. This helps us fight spam."

I just downloaded Firefox and have been unable to send ANY emails because of the following error:
    Unable to send mail.
If you are sending a link, try adding some text to it. This helps us fight spam.

Firefox doesn't do email, it's strictly a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Mozilla Thunderbird, let us know and we can move this thread to the Thunderbird queue. This question currently is in the Firefox queue for answers.

  • I keep getting mail from Apple about validating my account and now I need to sanitize my email. Is this a hoax as they want my credit card details

I have been receiving email supposedly from apple asking me to validate my account. I ignored as I thought they were a hoax as they wanted me to verify my CC details. Now I'm getting mail saying I'm transmitting virsus mitting viruses and I need to verify my credit card details.??  Is this real or hoax as it also saying if I don't it will lead to permanent deactivation immediately. HELP

It is absolutely a fake. Do not, I repeat do not, respond to these emails in any way. You can report them to Apple if you wish:
    [email protected]
but there's little or nothing they can do about such scams so it's probably not worth the effort and you can just delete the fakes.
    Regards.

  • Chain mail, hoaxes, jokes - spam by any other name

Just below spam I despise the glut of junk email we get. Chain emails 'send this stupid joke to everyone in your address book!', hoaxes, and stale internet jokes all are nearly as aggravating and prevalant as classic spam.
How about teaming up with Snopes.com and/or BreakTheChain.org to create a security service like anti-spam for this junk that promotes click-happy social engineering?
I have spent untold hours developing policies for these junk emails. I think it would be a great feature and one, if effective, I would gladly pay for!
    - Richard

I have started warning the senders of these emails, and after two warnings I bounce all emails back to them. I have a lot of keywords flagged and some are bounced on the spot. This has cut down tremendously on the junk we get. Also I think it is good to stop these senders as they are clearly the ones susceptible to social engineering exploitation.
I sent this as a feature request through my appliance and obviously they did not understand the problem from the response I got: "Actually I think IronPort has already created a proprietary solutions for detecting spam."
Anyone who has this problem please send this as a feature request to Ironport. I think it is an overlooked problem that would prove beneficial to all to address.
    - Richard

  • What is this? Just ordinary SPAM?

In the last 3 days we got many mails with just one textline as body (no 'subject', no 'To:')
%RANDFILE[./bodies/tb/tb_plain.txt,./bodies/tb/tb_html.txt,./bodies/ol/ol_html.txt]The sender is displayed as (non-existing) internal user "[email protected]"
    In the mail-header I can see this:Received: from 189.26.70.70.adsl.gvt.net.br (189.26.70.70.adsl.gvt.net.br [189.26.70.70])
    X-IronPort-Anti-Spam-Filtered: true
    X-IronPort-Anti-Spam-Result: Ahp3ALnz40cKSgK3/2dsb2JhbACCKYV3gS6GJCQaPpdPgSw
    Is this just ordinary SPAM?
What do you do against such unwantend Mails? (Do you use additional rules to make some further checks?)

Looks like someone has screwed up their spam sending programs...
This is always going to be a hard type of message to catch, because whilst it probably is spam, it's also just an error message - no actual spam content!
Even so, the best action to take it to send it on to us so that we can update our rules to block further messages - both for you and all other customers. Forward the message as an attachment to [email protected], or if you're using the Outlook you can get the plug-in from the support site which gives you a "report spam" button.
I wouldn't recommend writing your own rules to block spam unless it's a very "local" issue - it's almost always going to be best to leave it up to our spam rule writers to do it for you, but obviously we need to see the message first.

NEED TO GET OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM OFF OF THE BLACKLIST!!???  WHO CAN HELP WITH THIS.  WE CANNOT MOVE FORWARD WITH OUR PROJECTS UNTIL WE GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF...NEED SOMEONE THAT CAN SPEAK BY PHONE TO HANDLE THIS!!!

This is a user to user forum. So no one here has access to your emails. Some of the things you state you have been told are untrue.
Cancelling your direct debit is not going to do you any favours.
The box doesn't need to get changed all you need are a pair of power line adapters and you can watch TV. The box will work anyway as a PVR so you shouldn't be frightened to set it up and plug in the aerial. It doesn't need set up.

Have received email saying my Apple ID has been used to purchase a Camera, the purchase was from Poland. It is asking me to verify me details and change password etc.

Question is...do I just ignore it or what?

    Scam, as in phishing email.

  • I keep receiving emails about my apple account being frozen unless I verify my account details. Is this a hoax?

I keep receiving messages about my Apple account being frozen unless I verify my account details. Is this a scam?

Yes it is, it's a phishing attempt to try and get your account and payment details - iTunes accounts don't get 'frozen', and emails from Apple tend to be personalised (not 'dear customer', 'hello' etc.), and they are written in proper language. If you still have the emails then you could forward them to Apple : [email protected]

  • This baby burns... for real (overheat problem)

I just had in my hands for a few hours this new laptop. He's sure pretty fast on the internet and very fluid on other basic apps(e.g. GarageBand, Iphoto).Did not see much difference with my PB anyway except for the fact this one looks more cool. But I'm not very good at benchmarking.
It runs hot anyway. Very HOT. After 30 mins the part closer to the power button and generally all the area under the screen feels like is going to melt down in minutes. My friend is really worried about this, mostly because it bought it in the States and doesn't know if he'll receive assistance over here in italy too..
Question is.. is it a common feature or do you think it is just like that and he should not be worried about it?

    2.0ghz 13 inch White macbook
    this baby does burns.
i Just purchased mine 2 days ago.
I checked the vent there was no plastic cover blocking the way
I just leave it there with sleep mode for 40 min and i begin to check all over, everywhere else steems to be fine but the buttom of left(opposite side of the power button) was extremely HOT! I almost caught my pants on fire when i put it on my lap. I hate to return this macbook but overheat problem is way over image.

  • This is going to sound silly *REAL THREAD*

First off, I work on a military base. I have been looking into an iPhone for a while, but I have 1 problem with it. It has a camera. We are not allowed to have camera phones on this property.
So, has anyone ever removed a camera from an iPhone? If so, how hard is it?
    Message was edited by: Goobalicious

well I will say that sending it in to have the camera removed will probably void your support for the product.....
but im pretty sure that smashing the camera would do the same thing.
The iphone is like any other device it can have its problems. It can break completely to the point you have to get a replacement It can freeze up does it happen to everyone "no" but can it happen sure... so basically with you doing something like this your going to rely on the company your sending into for support on it....
Something you might wanna do is call apple support and find out if they would cover you for this specific situation... I don't see why they would want to limit there customers over something like this which is required for you to do.
If I had the choice I personally would rather find an alternative ... that comes with exactly what I need it to be.
This may not be your case but just my opinion =)

  • I have found since updating to the new firefox that certain links no longer work. Has anyone else experienced this. It is becoming a real issue.

For example, google search page links or links on certain web sites work in Safari but in firefox they are simply dead.
Clicking on some google search page links takes you to a blank page or one with an error message. Links on shopping pages and credit card sites are non-responsive, for example, to download statements.

Thanks very much for your response.
Its worked like a charm. Still rather odd that the home button doesn't work though.
Have a great day and appreciate the tip very much.
