Is this a possible way to sync without losing everything?

My computer has an ungodly amount of viruses on it and I've come to the conclusion that I need to reset the whole computer. My concern is losing all of my ITunes stuff in the process. I was wondering, if after it is reset, could I just 1. Restore my purchases into the new library and then 2. Redownload anything that wasn't purchased manually? It sounds good to me because all of the stuff on my IPod will be the exact same as in the library, and it could clean up any songs I wanted to delete but I never got around to doing. Please help, I'm gonna throw this computer out the window if I don't erase it soon but I wanna make sure my whole take on the process sounds foolproof.

I don't believe step 2 is possible without some third party software.

at the bottom it says there is a manual procedure but I'v never tried it and it sounds complicated.

  • How to sync without losing Everything?!?

Got two Ipods here, for some reason my ipod will not sync with its mother computer, used to, won't now. I do not wish to lose all my music, oh and my Itunes library got wiped out too. So how do i sync an Ipods music that is ONLY on the Ipod, to a computer without losing everything? Does that make sense? Please help me!!

*So how do i sync an Ipods music that is ONLY on the Ipod, to a computer without losing everything?*
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Someone disabled my iPod, I know my passcode but it says I have to connect to iTunes. The computer that has all my data backed up on it is not currently working. Is there a way to restore without losing everything?

My iPod 5 has been disabled and I am wondering if I can restore it without losing everything.

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • I need a way of syncing without replacing everything.

My laptop had developed a problem and it needed it's hard drive replaced, so concequently I lost all my data. It is back now and my ipods still working but the only songs I now have on my itunes are songs i've put on it since it's been repaired. Basically I'm wondering does anyone know how I can either restore everything from ipod onto itunes, or just add to my ipod the new songs i put on itunes. please help!

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

This is so I can delete music from my ipod knowing its rated on my i-tunes so I can then see later if I want to re-add it based on its rating
    Thanks

Long story short, my one year old disabled my iphone5 and I need to "connect to itunes" as the screen instructs. I went through the steps and it says that I will be doing a factory reset and I will lose everything. Is there any way to get my phone open without losing everything?? I'm mainly concerned about my pictures and videos.

How do I sync my iphone with itunes without losing everything on my phone?

Normally, you should be able to sync your iPhone with iTunes without losing anything
What can happen is that you might have emptied your iTunes library for any reason such as a system restore
If this is the case, you first need to Import iPhone library to iTunes and then, you'll be able to sync your iPhone with iTunes with no problem

    Hi ndmulderx,
If I understand correctly, your family has been sharing a single Apple ID and now you want to give everyone an individual Apple ID without losing any content. You can do this with Family Sharing. The article below provides details about the feature which will allow you to share purchases between family members, create shared photo albums and much more.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
