Is this a viable alternative to CSS11501?

Hi,
Assuming the performance was good enough, would the below be a viable alternative to the CSS11501? I'm guessing it's the CSS's hardware architecture that bumps up the price?
http://www.brainforce.com/eng/produkte/ina/ina_b100_cont_eng.htm
http://www.brainforce.com/pdf/b100_install.pdf
thanks,
alec

You have to look a carefully at these performance tests.
A few remarks
- The F5 documents compare the F5 product only to CSS 11503. The Cisco test was done with the CSM and the CSS 11506 which are higher end platform.
Why F5 did not compare itself to these products ?
- the F5 documents used version 5.20(0.1) for the CSS. This is the worst version we ever had and nobody uses it - would be interesting to see a real version like 7.20 or 7.30
- next the config of the CSS. It uses 'no persistent' which means we have to rebalance every GET request and they did not configure persistence reset remap which will optimize this rebalance.
[was it on purpose ? or they just didn't know it ?]
So, it looks like that with a very old/bad software, with an incorrect config and with very small packet sizes, the CSS is worst than F5.
With the same config and version but large packet size the difference between F5 and the CSS11503 is not that different.
BUT, if we use the 11506 with the right software and the right config, you get the number in the Cisco document and they're much better than F5.
Finally, evenif the performance would be the same, there is all the rest.
Is there such a forum for F5 products ?
Do you have certified engineer answering your questions related to F5 products ?
In case of a software bug [this is a reality, there is bugs with every software F5 and Cisco included], who's going to fix it first ?
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Gilles.

  • Is this a viable alternative to Boot Camp???

While seeking a solution to a problem I was having with running Windows from Boot Camp,
    <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1514709&tstart=0>
    I was offered this advice.
Does this make sense? The advice follows:
Say you have a hard drive with 2000 blocks. When you want to create a Windows partition, what bootcamp does is slice the amount you requested to make a free space to create a new partition.
If your HFS partition is taking all 2000 blocks, (say you select 50/50) it will recreate the HFS partition basic data to reflect 1000 blocks. You now have 1000 blocks free, which Bootcamp basically creates a new partition but in FAT format.
When that fails, your HFS partition basic data becomes corrupt and causes filesystem errors. Bootcamp when it fails to complete this process, it does not step back to set the partition as it originally was, instead it leaves the unfinished partition info causing the filesystem to become unstable or just downright unusable sometimes giving you the little ? mark at startup because the system cannot find a valid OS X partition.
It would be smarter, that before you install OS X, that you load up the startup DVD/CD and under Disk Utility create two partitions. One in HFS Extended (Journaled) and another in FAT. Once that's done, go ahead and install OS X in the HFS Extended partition you created. Once your installation is done in your desktop you will notice the FAT disk available.
So if you had a 40GB HD, you will see a 20GB HFS (Mac partition) and a empty 20GB FAT (windows partition).
From there you can try installing windows again and the FAT partition you created will be available under the Windows setup menu. If you are still experiencing issues, be advised your HFS partition was never touched by Bootcamp, because you created it manually. So you should have no issues getting on to OS X desktop.
The firmware bootloader to select operating systems is holding down the option key right after the chime. Another and better alternative is refit bootloader which pops up a menu that you can select which OS you request to boot up in without the delay the firmware bootloader provides as it searches for other OSes installed on the system.

No one answered; I purchased VMWareFusion and love it.

  • Core Center causing me issues - is this a viable alternative?

Hi - I have been using corecenter ONLY to adjust fan speed and to monitor core temperature.  However, corecenter seems to be overriding my bios settings (I have set up the board for overclock in BIOS).  An example of this is corecenter reducing the vcore to that which is set in the software rather than in bios - same goes for FSB.
So - I have installed MBM for monitoring temps and that is going fine.  My question is, can I wire my CPU fan (Zalman 7700) straight in to my fan controller which has dials to control rpm?  Is this ok to do or is it a crazy idea?
    Cheers,
    Dub

i tried it and everything is working fine.  The motherboard can not see my CPU fan at all and is not shutting down.
I have cool n quiet disabled and am not using smart cpu fan target.

I've been using Photoshop elements (3 and 4) for some time, but updates are so unreliable and rare that it crashes intermittently with each OS update. Is Aperture a viable alternative? If not, what other application are out there for working on and changing photos? In my experience most Mac applications from commercial enterprises are less reliable than shareware products in general...

  • Can anyone tell me how to solve Flash Player on iPad 2. I understand Adobe not supported is there away around this or Apple alternative

Having just purchased ipdad 2 I am noticing that Flash Player is not supported can anyone please tell me how to get round this or suggest apple alternative. It's very annoying considering that flash is used in so much digital display

The Skyfire browser is the best solution I have found, so far. It's a browser that converts the videos on the fly. It doesn't work for other types of flash (games, ads, etc) but it does a good job with videos.

  • Is this a Viable option??

I work for a School who would like us to force someone to sign an AUP (acceptable use policy) or the computer shuts down. They want this done after log in so they can track who signed it. Is using Java a viable option for something like this?

This sounds like a poor option for any programming language to be honest. Why wouldn't they require the users to sign an "AUP" before they're given the login credentials in the first place?
That way they still get their agreement, but don't need to install or run additional software.

  • Value Credits  for Stock Items - is this a viable solution? (Drop Ship Whs)

    Hi all
I seem to have a solution for a long standing problem and have tested it but not tried it for real so was interested in your comments. It uses a drop ship warehouse to achieve the result but I donu2019t want to implement on site if it might also be doing things that I am unaware of. It all started off with some testing of drop ship warehouses, which I think is pretty poor functionality in B1, extract from my report below:
"The disadvantages of SAP drop ship functionality all centre around the fact that it does not generate stock movements. You lose audit trail and some reports that users may rely on eg stock usage. Also because there is no stock movement the item cost is not updated (ave or FIFO). This also means that you do not get a cost of sale on the sales order or invoice, if you have set the GP Base Price to item cost, and no COS in sales analysis. The sales invoice journal generated also does not post COS, just sales, but note that as there is still no stock transaction it can be invoiced before the PO receipt or invoice. And as the purchase receipt does not generate a stock transaction there is no journal and therefore no accrual (GRNI). The AP invoice just posts an expense to P&L but only when the supplier invoice is received. So it screws stock movements, item cost, sales analysis, P&L, BS accruals and there is little in the way of control."
However, this set me thinking about using it for value credits, report extract as below:
I realised whilst I was testing that the drop ship warehouse could be used very effectively to deliver a solution for something that has caused me much grief over the years. When you use the drop ship warehouse stock movements are never generated. Consider a customer who has been overcharged for goods and requires a credit. Historically, the advice has always been to issue a u201Cserviceu201D credit against a GL code because an u201Citemu201D credit document would book stock back into the warehouse and reduce the reported quantity of goods sold, which is not required. The downside of the service credit is that whilst GL postings may be OK sales analysis is now incorrect. But using a drop ship warehouse on the credit note line we get a document against the itemcode, stock is not updated and the credit value does appear in sales analysis as well as GL. Perfect! So we could create a warehouse, marked as a drop ship warehouse but clearly labelled as u201CVALUE CREDITS ONLYu201D, to be used for this purpose
What does anybody think about this solution - are there any downsides?
    Thanks
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
Your understanding of Drop Ship is mostly correct.  The proposal sounds good.  The main point of the Drop Ship function would be no stock involved.  You really do not need to label it is bad or poor. It is only useful for people who need it. If you could utilize the function for your goal, go for it.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

  • Is this really viable/reliable?

We have a lab of dual-g5s running 10.4.3 and the latest Final Cut Studio on a gigbit network. I read the manual and set up a machine as the cluster controller and enabled services only on the other machines. I built the cluster in QAdministrator. I turned off the firewall on all the machines. I was able to get a few batches to process from compressor so I know the setup is capable of working. But things crash constantly, QAdministrator will freeze. The batch monitor crashes. I had a batch get 99% of the way through and then all of the service nodes mysteriously became unreachable. Is there some secret to getting more stable setup?
I saw someone mention that each node needed to have the cluster storage mounted. Isn't this done automatically by the cluster?
    thanks for any advice...

  • Is This a Viable Development for the Calendar Program?

    Hello all,
I don't know about you, but as an individual myself I find myself mindlessly scrolling through dates on the calendar interface available on the right-hand side of the task bar copiously during looming periods of procrastination. After recreating bad habits
today, I had an idea; what if the calendar utilised the internet and incorporated key historic events on the calendar so if you clicked on a random date, for example 1st February, the calendar would tell you that on that day in 1884 the Oxford Dictionary debuted.
Although it doesn't improve or develop Windows any further, I thought it could be a nifty little niche feature which falls in line with Microsoft's increased web incorporation with their products.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read my post.

  • Ia there a good alternative to Microsoft windows server for enterprise?

Hi Guys, I work at a small (22 FTE's) public(not-for-profit) art galley. We are currently a mixed pc/mac office with various departments, all with different needs. Communications/Design are Mac. 2/3rds of the Curatorial is Mac, 1/3rd PC. Public Programs is mostly Mac with one PC. The accounting, giftshop, and Databases are all PC. The giftshop and accounting use ACCPAC. The collections (artwork collection that is) department uses FileMaker Pro backend, with a frontend called "Virtual Collections". We very much dislike Virtual Collections BTW. Our other database, which handles membership, and financial donation tracking, is @EASE. Because we are not-for-profit our overall budget for IT is relatively small, and the system is the way it is because of years of neglect, and stop-gap purchases. We use a Microsoft Server with Exchange. We are in the process of building a new gallery, and with it the ability to start fresh on a number of levels. One of which is our Server. Personally I'd like to see us move away from the Microsoft server ecosystem. It is cumbersome, requiring lots of IT support (which we contract out by the way, and costs us a tidy little sum yearly on top of MS Server licensing etc.) Our Management team is considering going to an all PC environment with the (I feel mistaken) attitude that "if all computers are the same flavour, the whole system will run more smoothly and thus be less expensive to manage". As on of the Mac users within this system, who knows a little about, but is no expert in, computers and networks in general, I'd like to be able to open a dialogue with management at this crucial juncture on alternatives to the system we now use.  I had run across a website some time ago that outlined the "real cost of owning and operating Microsoft Servers" but can not seem to locate it anymore. It basically broke down all costs of running a Microsoft environment, and concluded that, over time, it is not very cost efficient, especially for small enterprise. Has anybody run across any really good server alternatives to Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft Windows Server (I think ours is 2008)? We are a relatively small city, and the IT/Networking companies here all seem to push Microsoft as a be-all-end-all. I'm not so sure. I'd like to present viable alternatives with sound arguments to back them up. Can you guys help? Or, an you point me toward someone who can? Thanks guys, keep up the good work, Tmamer

Have you ever got this resolved?
I noticed your VIP and Public IP are not on the same subnet, i thought they had to be?
like both 10.x.x.x and subnet 255.0.0.0 or something like that?
    Could this be your problem?
I am trying to setup a two node cluster Oracle Rac 10g on IBM Blade Center H with HS21 XM blades.
My problem is trying to setup HA and not have a single point of failure and in order to do this, it almost seems as if i need 4 network interfaces in the HS21 blade so i can team 2 together.
Did you guys purchase any addition expansion cards for these servers for that reason?
My understanding is that each HS21 have by default 2 nics, and they each go to one of the two internal cisco switches (within the entire bladecenter).
So if for instance we have one of the cisco switch die, like the one that has the public interface plugged into it, then we could not longer access the rac and that would be a single point of failure. So unless we can have 4 interfaces on the blade, and have them 2 teamed with each nic going to one of the cisco internal switches. So if any one cisco switch die's it just uses the other one.
    Any thoughts, suggestions?

  • Alternative payee for ATI "Temporary Allocation of Companies" group

    Hey everybody,
May you please help me to define a solution to handle the following
    situation?
There are many ATI group vendors, each of them is constituted by one assignee, different invoicing parties and one payment recipient corresponding to the assignee. Each invoicing party can belong to different ATI groups.
All the purchase orders issued to a vendor defined as a ATI group will have the invoicing party one of the Companies, but the payee will always be the assignee of the group. Our problem is to handle this circumstance.
One solution is to update all the invoicing parties master data of a ATI group, specifying the assignee of the ATI as a alternative payee; this for each ATI group.
This solution, viable because if the invoicing party accept at least one different payee the system allows to specify one of them during the invoice entering, is time-consuming to be handled, and it is not optimal because one invoicing party could have different alternative payees (if belonging to different ATI groups). Furthermore, these payees would be not controlled and during the invoice registration an incorrect alternative payee might still be selected.
The solution we would like to apply is to indicate in the ATI group vendor master data:
    - the assignee (it could be a partner role defined ad-hoc)
    - the list of the invoicing parties (partner function PI)
    - the payment recipient (alternative payee / partner function AZ)
without updating all the invoicing parties master data.
During the invoice registration, relating to a purchase order issued to a ATI group vendor, the system should detect that an alternative payment recipient is indicated in the vendor master data and make possible to specify it, although it doesn't appear in the invoicing party master data.
We have tried to apply this solution, assigning also a partner schema to the purchase order, but it didn’t work because the system shows the payee field in the transaction MIRO only if the invoicing party allows for an alternative one.
Is there any possibility to apply this solution?
Thank you very much for your help,
    Jo-anne

  • Alternatives to SAP GRC Tool to monitor compliance & automatic provisioning

    Hello Gurus,
Not sure if this would be the right forum to ask this but surely there exist tools in the market which are viable alternatives to the SAP GRC Tool. We are a large semiconductor firm and currently manage role assignments, user provisioning and auditing manually. It is a huge cost overhead and is labor intensive.
    Looking at possible alternatives?
SAP GRC Tool is a strong contender but I am trying to weigh in other options with it and their comparisons.
To your minds, what would be the biggest advantage of implementing GRC versus any other third party tool? What is the distinctive edge it provides? This is also to help me build a strong business for pushing GRC to the management.
Appreciate any thougts/ideas/suggestions, at the earliest!! Much appreciated.

Edited by: Tania Nijhawan on Jul 21, 2011 2:19 AM

    Hi Tania,
GRC is a convenient grouping of solutions that have been developed and acquired over time. There are pros and cons in every application and no one can say that SAP GRC is 100% best and un comparable with any other compliance product in the market.
But, I can strongly say that GRC gels well with all the SAP flavours such as ECC and BI, and it is easy to implement, incorporate, and manage.
With the introduction of GRC 10, SAP is looking at more features and easy to manage compliance solutions. I bet you can't get A to B product comparision anywhere. I rather suggest you to look at the top ten features and advantages in different products in terms of deployment, adaptability, user friendlyness etc., and opt for the right one.

  • Alternatives to Notes.app that will sync WITHOUT a cloud service

I am looking for viable alternatives to Apple's Notes.app to keep and sync notes between my iPhone 4s and my Macbook Pro but THAT DO NOT REQUIRE ANY CLOUD SERVICES.
Prior to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion this was possible.  However, Mountain Lion removed the ability to use iTunes to sync Notes between devices (with or without cable) and now requires "cloud-type" connectivity/services.  While I like the new Notes interface in Mountain Lion Notes.app  I bemoan the loss of syncing by cable/iTunes and forcing the use of cloud servcies upon us.
For me personally I want to sync these devices by cable and not via iCloud, IMAP or any service that resides outside of these physical devices. That's my personal preference, so let's not use this discussion to debate the pros and cons of the "cloud" way of doing things (and hopefully we will not divert into a cloud vs. no-cloud cat fight).
What I really want to find is some kind of Note application to replace the functionality of Notes on the iPhone 4S (and maybe other iOS devices) and the Macbook Pro that will allow syncing between devices by cable and that does not require cloud services to sync between devices.
I have read a little about Chronos "SOHO Notes" for the Mac, which apparently requires it's companion "NoteLife" for the iPhone. But there seems to be few other offerings, or I cannot find them.
Does anyone have hands-on experience with these or other products?
Does anyone have pointers to specfic product recommendations?
It might be nice to find some open source applications rather than commercial.
    Thanks very much.

Ok, I thought of something. Haven't done it yet, but will when I "re upgrade" to mountain lion (I downgraded back to Lion when I noticed the issues with notes. It really is a dealbreaker for me.)
This isn't ideal, but it's what I'm going to do.
Contacts (so far) can still be synced locally. Each contact has a "Notes" field. What I'm going to do is create a group in my contacts called "Notes", and when I have a note, I'll just create a new contact for it. I'll put the title for the note in the "Company" field, write the note in the "Note" field, leave the rest blank probably, assign it to my "Notes" group in contacts, and that will be my new "non-cloud notes app"
Again, its not ideal, but I think it'll do.
Apple, please dont *^%! around with the rest of the syncing apps. A cloud OPTION is nice. But it's not practical for a lot of people. This almost got me to switch to Android, becuase if I was going to be forced to sync through clouds, I no longer had a reason to stick with Apple products.
