Is this cause for concern? SUID file?

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

I just had the exact same ~warning~ after doing a permissions repair. I guess I wont worry about it.

  • Unknown PC displayed in my Finder. Cause for concern?

I have a closed wireless network (WEP password required) and I've seen an unknown PC show up in the "Shared" section of my Finder. Is this cause for concern? Would this indicate that my network has been hacked?

More than likely this person has not joined your wireless network. Read through my posts in the thread "Internet hacker".

  • Is this cause for incomplete recovery?

    Hi.
I read here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96519/recov.htm#1004797 and other places, the reasons for incomplete recovery. I see that "if a user drops a table.." we would consider incomplete recovery. That "data loss" means we need to recover ...
Yet what if the user simply deletes some rows from a table? If the user does not commit, do we still need to do incomplete recovery? Similarly, if the user does not commit, is that a reason for not using incomplete recovery?
Sorry for splitting hairs - but its important!
    Thanks,
    DA

    Hi,
    >>t if those few rows are gone forever (a committed delete), we would have to at least consider incomplete recovery??
    The same thing ...
It is 12:00 AM and the EMP table was deleted or updated by mistake at 11:45 AM
    Then you can:
    1) shutdown the database and make a backup
    2) restore all datafiles from most recent backup
    3) mount the database
    4) recover the database like below:
SQL> recover database until time '2008-03-30:11:44:00'
    5) synchronize the datafile with control files and redo log files like below:
       SQL> alter database open resetlogs
    6) Make a backup of your databaseIn this case, time-based recovery, also called point-in-time recovery (PITR), recovers the data up to a specified point in time.
Ps: Disadvantage of using this method: Any data entered after the recovery time (11:44 AM) will need to be reentered ...
    Cheers

  • What does this mean? 'Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired'.

Found this at the bottom of my disk repair list. It said 'Warning'.. is it something to be concerned about? Does it matter if it can't be repaired?
    Thanks!

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 and 10.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard changed the location of a number of system components.
Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:
    drwxrwxrwx
    d = directory
    r = read
    w = write
    x = executeable program
    drwxrwxrwx
    |  |  |
    |  |   all other users not in first two types
    |  |
    |  group

    owner
    a little more info
Before the user had read & write. A member of the group had read.
After, only the user had read & write.

  • Is random iMac screen flashing a cause for concern?

I am using a 24-inch iMac which is of the 'Early 2009' variety.
The flashing happens randomly but usually when I awaken it.  This behavior began about a month or so ago and is very random, somedays it occurs several times during the day and other days not at all.  If it is on its way out, I would like to purchase another before it quits.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  • 80GB vs 120GB HD Noise [cause of concern?]

Anyone that has used both of these notice if the hard drive on the 120gb is louder? Specifically when the hard drive spins up?
My hard drive on my 120gb makes a noticeable click ,though not a repetitive click like there is a problem, when it spins up, however my 80GB is whisper quiet, the only way I can hear it is if it is right next to my ear.
Is this cause for concern? Has anyone else noticed this or does my 120gb have the potential to be a bum unit?

  • Disk Utility -- SUID FILES "will not be repaired"

Last night I ran Disk Utility.
After repair I received this message --
Warning: SUID file "usr/liveecec/load_hdi" had been modified and will not be repaired.
There is a list of nine similar SUID errors illustrated in screen snap shot at this link:
    http://homepage.mac.com/boot321/Permission/PhotoAlbum12.html
    I've recently upgraded to 10.5.1
Discovering nine problems that cannot be "repaired" by disk utility gives me concern.
I run a fairly conservative series of applications on my G5. Can anyone advise on what may be needed here?
    thank you,
    Mike

On the link from Michael Conniff suggesting I read the article that Mac posted saying "not a cause for concern" -- there is only ONE Warning that is illustrated. Since I had a total of NINE, I thought that may have consequence....
Yes, the article appeared just after Leopard was released, when there was only one such message. The others appeared with 10.5.1.
Maybe this will all go away in 10.5.2
There has always been a lag between strange messages appearing and a KB article to explain them. In 10.2.2, we started seeing messages saying "We are using special permissions for the file or directory …". Initially there was just one: by 10.4.4, there were almost too many to count. In 10.4.5, Apple suppressed these messages because all they did was spread alarm around this and other forums.
I have no doubt we'll see the same happen with these SUID messages. If you're interested in what happened before, look at the links in this FAQ: Permissions Issues.

  • Error message "Warning: SUID file... will not be repaired"

I just repaired permissions because something unexpected happened. This was one of the messages in the window:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool" has been modified and will not be repaired."
Can someone tell me if this is something to be alarmed about? And need it be fixed?
(Last night I installed the briefly available AirportExtreme Upgrade that was pulled. On necessary restart I saw a dialogue about changing some boot files)

..."Apple has said that these specific messages, listed in the KB article I reference, are not a cause for concern."...
Yes, understood. "Specific messages" being the key. Mentioning "specific", I think, shows that you understand the issue.
However, your response to the OP was:
..."It's a normal status message and nothing to worry about."...
It was only the extension of the "specific" to the general that I prompted me to clarify by responding in the first place. Of course, the message isn't "normal". Being able to safely ignore it is a special case, which is why it is listed specifically in the article. Note the difference to the "ACL" messages (i.e. "Any message that starts with: 'ACL found but not expected on...'". It does not say "Any message that starts with: "Warning: SUID file...". The document only applies to the specific listed files (plus a few more I believe would be included if the article had been updated in a more timely manner).
In the future when responding to similar questions, please keep the distinction in mind because it is important. While there are things Apple should do to improve the situation, the reason I am addressing it here instead of through "feedback" is because of the way some participants of this site are conveying the message. As long as people aren't being given the impression that a warning that a SUID file has been modified is never a cause for concern, I won't object.

  • SUID file warning been modified cant repair???

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
ANyone know how to get rid of this I just turned on my new Imac so it is new

That message is normal and not a cause for concern; you may be able to make it disappear by installing this software. If not, ignore it.

    Hi:
When trouble shooting some difficulties in a game I was directed to run
Disk Utility Program ---Disk Utilities Repair Disk Permissions
I ran the program and got this Warning.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Should I be concerned? Will it cause difficulties? Have I been hacked?

  • FIX FOR: warning:/tmp:file system full

This at least worked for us. We did the install on an intel based clone with 1 IDE 30GB drive, and CD as slave. Use either the install CD or SW 1 CD. When you get to the part that gives you the ability to select your own partitions, simply delete all partitions and select OPTION 4 to save and exit. Then type REBOOT. When the install starts back up, go through it like normal and it will automatically say what it wants to do, just respond YES to all its questions. If you do not know how to get out of the install to get to the FDISK program, simply choose quit during the install process when it wants to format. Then type FORMAT, select the disk (ie. 0), then type FDISK, and follow the instructions I wrote above. Hope this helps, because it really was annoying. I am totally new to Solaris, but you think they would be more help and make it easier to LOAD the thing to help them get better market share, epsecially now...... :-)

It's a status message and not a cause for concern. There's nothing to fix.

  • SUID file

Ran Repair Disk Permission and found few wrong permissions, but I did get this cryptic reply:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Should I be worried about this?

See Apple list of things to ignore when Repairing permissions…
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore - Apple Support
SUID is used to 'set User ID' of an app to run as the owner (instead of whoever opened it), it is often known because it is used to gain superuser powers, but that is not it's only purpose.

  • SUID file problem

After installing Panther I had a start up failure. Detached LaCie which seemed to solve the problem. I ran utilities.. to check permissions and got this message.
    Warning: SUID file "system/Library/Core Services/Remote Management/ARD agent...
Permissions were clear before installing Panther.
Is this a serious problem and how do I solve it?

I'm assuming you mean Leopard OS X 10.5 and not really Panther. Anyway, this problem has been reported but I don't know the current status of possible fixes, etc.
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20071031102625632
It is generally recommended that you detach external devices, such as the LaCie, before doing a Mac OS X update or upgrade. Hope this helps in the future.
