Is this common practice?

I exchanged two power cords during my recent visit to the Genius Bar. Upon leaving I overheard a man asking why he was being charged for a power cord. I stopped and said, they will exchange that for a new one. The clerk said not if it's his fault! I looked at his cord and stated that is where it always breaks or comes apart, the clerk just looked at me with a blank face. I told the man that I just exchanged two if them, I then reached into my purse and pulled out one if mine. I have to the gentleman and said you may have one if mine, I don't understand why they will not exchange yours. He asked what he owed me and I said, you don't owe me anything, I have two and you can have one that's all. He thanked me and as I walked away I shins stated, I don't understand why they will not exchange yours and I think that is very wrong!!! I believe it was racial profiling and that makes me sick.

After going in for an issue I had already been through with on two other occasions ( at a different location) and had to spend 2.5 hours only to have them try to fix an issue I knew would only be futile and end with them exchanging my phone, then to see this poor man standing there looking confused. The cord had come apart where they always do, it was a no brainier. I solved the problem by giving him one of mine. I'm looking for another cable just good customer service and equal patronage!!!
Yes, there is a warranty time on the cables.  It's one year, just like the device.  The fact that you are unaware of that doesn't change the reality.
If you have a complaint about an Apple Store, your options are:
A) Speak to the Store Leader.
B) Contact Apple Store Operations at Cupertino, CA.
C) File a complaint with the appropriate entities, such as the Better Business Bureau, the management of the property where the Apple Store is located, etcetera.

  • Can someone explain the structure behind this common practice in most flash websites?

    I'm kind of a newbie with flash. I havent used it in a long long time and when I was using it, I wasnt really fully understanding what I was doing at the time. Anyways, it's been like 10 years now and I have to use it to make a website, but I can't figure out how others are doing this specific thing. I understand the basic concept of how flash works with making a website, and I've even built a very basic website with audio/video and mouse interaction, but now I want to step it up. I've seen many flash websites before and some have a lot of things going on at once and I'm wondering how you implement that smoothly while still allowing mouse interaction and navigation. I know this sounds confusing but basically, what I mean is:
    let's say I have a website and on the website I have buttons that lead to different pages(frames) when clicked. On the main page I have something like a bird that flies from left to right. Let's say that the bird is in the middle of the screen and a user clicks a button. How do I make it so that the bird continues to fly off screen before switching pages? Obviously, I cant tell what the location of the bird will be when the button is clicked since it will vary from user to user so I am completely confused on how to structurally set this up. Would the bird be it's own swf embedded in the main swf? Or is this feature a massive keyframing project for every frame of animation that bird has?
    Also, how do have multiple animations that run on different clocks looping simultaneously? What I mean by this is, lets say the previously mentioned bird has a 25 frame animation loop and a second element, like a sunrise/sunset has a 30 frame animation loop... how do I loop both of them so that they loop seemlessly at the same time? Will I have to animate both of them in a loop until both reach a common frame (150 frames from 6x 25frame bird loops and 5x 30frame sunrise/sunset loops)?
    Thanks,
    MorisatoKei

    You will have to experiment to see what works well and what doesn't.   You can have things animating along a timeline in parallel, but you can also have them be their own movieclips and animated when commanded to play().
    In the case of your bird flying off before a button click is processed, you could manage that as follows.  Have the button set a variable that is defaulted at false to be true.  At the end of the bird's flight, you test that variable ( as in ... if(variable == true)...) to see if it is true, and if so, you process whatever command that button is intended for.  If you used a timeline animtion for the bird, then that test would occur at the last frame of the animation.  If you used a coded tween to move the bird across the scene, then you could use an event listener to detect the animation completed and do the test then.
    There are almost always a variety of choices for achieving the same design goal.  The key to determining a solution is knowing what tools you have to work with... and coming to know what those tools are and how to use them is where learning comes in.

  • Should I partition my drive? (Is this common practice?)

    Hello,
    I recently purchased an iMac and I'm really liking it so far. I got used to it pretty quickly and can now do everything I could do before on my PC (which is now for sale).
    I'm wondering if most Mac users partition their drives - one partition holds the operating system and applications, the other holds music, photos, videos, documents etc.
    I used to do this on my PC to make sure the media files and documents don't get erased when I reinstall Windows. I asked this question on a Turkish Mac forum and the response was that most Mac users don't feel the need to partition their drives since the OS rarely needs reinstalling and in case it does, the partition doesn't have to be formatted anyway.
    I would appreciate your replies on whether I should consider partitioning my drive to separate system and media files. I have never reinstalled MacOS and I'm not sure if I will need to format the drive and install afterwards if I need to reinstall one day. Also, AFAIK I won't be able to use Boot Camp if I partition the drive.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
    Thank you for the replies!
    den.thed, thanks for the welcome. I see that as long as there is space in the partition there is no tangible benefit to partition the drive.
    My real worry was what would happen if I needed to reinstall MacOS or format the drive, as my photos etc. would be gone too, but I think this is what Time Machine is for (it's on and all my files are backed up.). And I don't think I need to "format" the drive for reinstalling MacOS, am I correct? Or is it "recommended but not necessary" to format/erase the partition before installing MacOS?
    Also, thanks for the information about the "boot camp section" of the forums, if I come across any problems I will certainly visit there.
    Glorfindeal: Thank you for the information. I have not decided for certain about installing Boot Camp - I have a licenced copy of Windows 7 which is currently running on VirtualBox inside MacOS - but I wanted to know my options clearly.
    So, I think it's not common for Mac users to partition their internal drives. I think I will not bother with partitioning either. I hope I will get some more replies to be certain in my impression...

  • AS2 common practices and party definitions

    Dear reader,
    I've a question about AS2 identifiers and common practices as is explained in more detail below:
    <b>Context</b>
    We have implemented Seeburger AS2 adapter on SAP XI.
    In our SAP XI environment we have depict parties in SAP R/3 (customers vendors etc) in SAP XI as well to enable clear depiction of message flows.
    For large companies we may find several SAP XI parties because the company may have and an office in Canada and an office in the US. (These are two parties in the SAP R/3 system as well)
    The company uses <u>one</u> AS2 server to communicate.
    Seeburger AS2 adapter allows <u>one</u> AS2 identifier to be defined for <u>one</u> SAP XI party. It is not possible to define the same AS2 identifier for two SAP XI parties.
    <b>Questions</b>
    Is it common practice for large company to use <u>one</u> AS2 identifier for all their offices? Can we expect to have <u>several</u> AS2 identifiers, one per office?
    If large companies only use one AS2 identifier is it wise to introduce a new SAP XI party specifically for AS2 communications and tigh the AS2 identifier to this party?
    Note the questions above only apply to inbound processing. For outbound processing the sender and receiver party (AS2 identifier) can be set using a header map in an receiver agreement.
    Your help is appriciated.

    Harald,
    I think that the best way is to create different services for every division under the party (company) with multiple divisions. (Exp. for Party BMW you can have services BMW_DE and BMW_USA). AS2 ID is unique and even for large companies (if they have one IT department) is possible using of the same AS2 ID.

  • Common Practice For Storing Application Data Files

    During my application development targeting for XP and Linux time, I will store my application data files (Files where user may create, modify, rename, delete...) same path as my application directory. For instance, if my application is installed in :-
    C:\Program Files\MyApp\MyApp.jar
    All my application data files will be located in
    C:\Program Files\MyApp\Config\ directory.
    This works quite well until Vista introduce UAC. Vista will not allow write opration to C:\Program Files\MyApp\Config\ folder (Config folder is being created during installer execution). However, to support legacy application, Vista use a workaround (Virtualization) for application to write. For example, MyApp.jar want to perform write on
    Real path :-
    C:\Program Files\MyApp\Config
    Vista will redirect it to :-
    Virtual path
    C:\Users\<account>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\MyApp\Config
    Please refer to the links for more detail
    [http://www.codeproject.com/KB/security/acl_common_data.aspx?display=Print]
    [http://www.codeproject.com/KB/vista-security/MakingAppsUACAware.aspx]
    However, this introduce several additional problems [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927387]
    May I know what is the common practice for storing an application data files? The below are my several thoughts
    (1) Writing to
    * Windows XP - %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
    * Windows Vista - %systemdrive%\ProgramData
    * Windows 2000 - %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
    * Windows Server 2003 - %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
    * Windows 98 - %systemdrive%\Windows\All Users\ Application Data
    which we may retrieve through "CommonApplicationData", using the API function SHGetFolderPath. However, how can we do that in Java? How to make compatible with Linux?
    (2) Writing to user home directory through "user.home" properties. Create a folder .MyApp and write the application data on it.
    Any input and suggestion are welcomed.
    Thanks!

  • Waht's the common practice to allocate memory to sybase?

    Suppose I have a dedicated server(Redhat Linux) for Sybase ASE 15.2. On this box, there are 10G memory available. How many RAM I can assign to Max Memory to Sybase with common practice? for example, if 80% of total physical RAM is proper portion?

    Here is what the official product docs say on this issue:
    SyBooks Online
    What I would do is look at the OS documentation to see what it says about the memory requirements for the OS itself.  Since this is a dedicated system, ASE can be assigned the rest.  On a system shared with other processes you would want to be less aggressive.
    I would think ASE could easily be assigned 9 GB on a dedicated 10GB system, and probably some more beyond that.
    If you can't determine a value for what the OS needs, you can experiment with increasing the memory for ASE while keeping an eye out for any memory page faults. Once you start seeing page faults, back off a little on ASE's configuration.  You do not want ASE's memory moving in and out of swap.

  • Common practice for additional cost like banking fees on PO's

    Hi
    Is it common practice to use the Freight functions for other cost like banking fee or other fees?
    Can it be set up with different freight types that the user does not have to enter a value, instead he can just pick the type of freight and automatically gets the correct value?
    I tried, but I it die not work ... its always 0 as proposed value.
    Thanks
    Franz

    Hi,
       Since freight is an expense, you can use this functionality wherein expense is involved, there is no wrong in this. Unless you have to keep in mind that the expense occurred in the freight tab would include in the itemcost if you run the item valuation.
    To make the value come automatically you have to customize a bit. My idea would be define a user defined table, enter all the values required in it and apply a formatted search in the amount field which pulls the data from the user defined table.
    Hope you understood.

  • Common practice to stop thread - checking flag or checking interrupt status

    Hello all, from the official document from Sun http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/misc/threadPrimitiveDeprecation.html , I was understand that the common practice to stop a thread is to
       private class StockMonitor extends Thread {
            public StockMonitor() {
                thread = this;
            public void run() {
                final Thread thisThread = Thread.currentThread();
                while(thisThread == thread) {
            public void _stop() {
                thread = null;
            private volatile Thread thread;
        }However, the need to have an extra flag is rather cumbersome. Hence, is it a common practice which we can stop a thread by checking its interrupt status? What is the pros and cons of the two methods?
    Thanks
        private class StockMonitor extends Thread {
            public StockMonitor() {
                thread = this;
            public void run() {
                final Thread thisThread = Thread.currentThread();
                while(thisThread.isInterrupted()) {
            public void _stop() {
                interrupt();
        }

    However, I thought checking thisThread.isInterrupted() is enough? As the following case...
    public void run()
        while(Thred.currentThread().isInterrupted())
            // Do something
            try {
                Thread.sleep(1000);
            catch(InterruptedException exp) {
                // Must break while loop from here. This is because interrupted
                // flag had been reset. If not, we will not able to
                // exit this while loop.
                break;
        }So, is there any need for a boolean type status flag? Can you please provide me any case, where it is impossible to achieve by just using checking thisThread.isInterrupted() checking?

    The residential address IT 0006 is a new your address with ZIP code 10001
    PA30 for IT 207 displays 4 tax areas for the new york address.
    FED     Federal     0000-0001       99999-9999
    NY     State of New York             14999-9999
    NY01     New York City          14999-9999
    NY02     Yonkers                   14999-9999
    I thought, each zip code will map to only one tax area.
    Thanks,

    This is the real world ! SAP does not design tax area based on zip codes. In our company, the tax lady calls the tax authorities to check what zip codes fall under that tax authorities.
    and BTW, with new BSI upgrade, you will find 12 more tax authorities for NY.
    Cheers !!!!

    No, it's not common for any of the headphonse I've plugged into my iPad, but that doesn't mean it isn't normal for this particular set of headphones and iPad.  That said, are you sure you've pushed the plug in all the way?  I have found that on my New iPad, the headphone plug requires more effort to connect the plug than on my previous iPad 2.  If they sound fine, I guess I wouldn't be concerned.  If they don't sound good, it could be an issue.

    No. In fact, I've never heard of it before.
    It might help if you could give us some details. What do you mean by "export photos to iPhoto Slideshow"? DO you mean you're adding photos to a slideshow in iPhoto? Or hat you created a slideshow in iPhoto and exported that to the Finder?

    Wow! Didn't know I would be bashed for being consise. It is a G4 ibook we bought it Oct. 2005, (this is b/c I noticed in other posts that the G4 ibook date back to 2002). Not sure how else to put it as it was in my post earlier, "we just had our logic board replaced on our G4 ibook (which is stated in the original at the bottom corner as the brilliant apple people have designed to keep these consise) 2005 model is this common," then in the message it goes on to say that I have found other posts and other sites that have people typing about having to have their logic boards replace/repaired 2-3 times, ie this example below.

    Douglas,
    Apple didn't knowingly sell faulty goods. Once the problem was identified, Apple stepped up to the plate with the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program (which is not a recall — they are being fixed when and if they fail, but have not been recalled), and your iBook still falls under the three-year plan.
    If that is not satisfactory to you, please take the measures I outlined in my previous post to you.
    Sorry to not be more specific in the first post, I figured since my search brought this issue up immediately someone out there would know about this.
    And to the second response, no I don't have a clue the difference is, that is why I bought an apple, suppose to be easier for those of us who are computer challenged.
