Is this computer outdated or rather in need of service?

The computer is slow.
My model ID is iMac5,2.
My processor name is Intel Core 2 Duo.
My processor speed is 1.83 GHz.
My memory slots have 256 MB of DDR2 SDRAM, 667MHz.
My memory is 512 MB.
I check Activity Monitor earlier. It said I had 0 free MB of RAM.
Do I need to upgrade the RAM?
How much and what type of RAM does my iMac support? Does this upgrade require a visit to an Authorized Apple Repair shop? Will the same RAM be available at Fry's?
My HD is 128 GB with 27 GB free.
Do I need to free space from my HD?

This is not NoteBook memory and it's the wrong spec for this model iMac.
Macs are picky about RAM and you are not just going to find it at the common electronics/office retail chains.
Buy Mac RAM from either of these sites

I would find a way to get more space on your HD, also.
Either purchase and external FireWire drive and archive everything to that drive free-ing up space on the iMac's internal drive.
Or find a way to delete junk or unneeded files on your internal drive and archive any important data and burn to disc for archiving.
To fee up some additional space your could try an app called
OnyX

This will clear out a lot of junk and other unnecessary data/files.

Reinstall Lion problem: "Lion cannot be installed on this computer"

Hi, I just bought a new Mac Mini 2011 with Lion already installed on it. After use Time Machine to bring back my old data I found out the system wasn't working at the speed anyone would expect from a brand new product. As an example, it takes too long to login or to get the window to close one of the apps of the dock (it can take at least 5-6 seconds to appear...) Something that didn't even happen in my old MacBook.
For this reason I tried to reinstall Lion using the method described here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/
I even tried with the external Usb drive option but when the utility tries to verify the system I get this error message: "Lion OS 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer".
I will call Apple Techincal Service of course, but in the meantime... anybody has any idea about why this is happening?

Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

I go ahead and authorize by going into iTunes/store/authorize computer, I verify the information that is given. I go back and try to redownload the apps and I get the same exact message, this computer is not authorized for this device. What am I doing wrong?

I have been trying to work through this problem by myself and have so far downloaded the most current version of iTunes. Frome there when it tells me I have to authorize this computer, I had to not put in the iPad information, I had to authorize with my current iTunes information, and any iPad or iPod, iPhone information. I have several people in the family that have different accounts, so I had to authorize each and every individual account because I didnt know which apps or music was purchased under which user. My windows xp computer got a virus and needed to be wiped.
As i store all of my itunes and iphone stuff on an external hardrive i thought this would not cause a problem.
Got a bit confused when i tried to open itunes again from the back-up hardrive as it would not open.
Wrongly assumed that the best option would be to re-download itunes and move my old itunes info across - silly silly thing to do :/
The new download just over-wrote the old one and after trying a few of the suggestions on here to get my old library back - i still cant work out if its possible as it has been over-written.
I don't want to plug my iphone4 into my computer as i have heard that this can wipe your phone completely, so before i do anything, does anyone know what is the best thing to do from here? or how i could posibly recover my old library, playlists, apps, podcasts e.t.c

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

If you purchased it on your ipad, then you would have to transfer it to your computer. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.
You can then listen to it on your computer.

It doesn't say anything. It runs through the sync process like normal and tells me all of the songs that it's synking. But then when it says I can disconnect it, nothing actually synked.

Copying the program over to a new machine will not work. Install it using installation files and activate it using the serial number assigned to the license.

Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. One backup is not enough to be safe. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with a mirroring tool such as "Carbon Copy Cloner." Preferably both.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume with the default options. This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups.
Transfer only "Users" and "Settings" – not "Applications" or "Other files." Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system. Test. If the problem is still there, the cause is external to the machine, or else you're dealing with a bug or a hardware fault.
If the problem is resolved, reinstall your third-party software cautiously. Self-contained applications that install into the Applications folder by drag-and-drop or download from the App Store are safe. Anything that comes packaged as an installer or that prompts for an administrator password is suspect, and you must test thoroughly after reinstalling each such item to make sure you haven't restored the problem.

Computer hard drive crashed. Need to transfer iPod music to new computer -- how to do this??

My Windows 7 computer crashed, and now I need to transfer my tunes from my iPod Nano to my new computer. I have both purchased songs and songs I uploaded from CD's. Can anyone help tell me how to do this? When I plug in my iPod the iTunes software only shows the songs that I purchased from the iStore, not the ones I uploaded from CD's.

You can't do it without third party software. Do a google search for 'transfer ipod to itunes'. This is the first hit to come up, but there are others.
